Unlike all the Whos,
who like Christmas a lot,
my boss on the mountain
absolutely,
positively,
most assuredly,
DOES NOT!!!!
Max the dog thinks his job--keeping an eye on his master, the Grinch--is a cinch. In rhyming verse, he describes how he supports his boss in his efforts to scare off Whos, play pranks, and steal Christmas, "lock, stock, and toy," from slumbering Whoville. And he recounts (and claims some credit for) the amazing transformation the Grinch goes through when he realizes he cannot kill the spirit of Christmas.
Based on Dr. Seuss's classic picture book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the motion picture screenplay of the same name, this unusually shaped "pictureback" book provides a humorous perspective from a character readers don't usually hear from. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Meet the Grinch's best friend--Max, the mangy mutt who has his paws full keeping his master in line.
Now, for the first time, Max reveals his side of the famous Christmas story, giving readers a rousing, rhyming dog's-eye view of the Grinch and his life on Mount Crumpit.

The care and feeding of a grinch.......2000-12-05
I thought that the book was wonderful for little people and i would read it to my children all the time and i think the pictures where a good idea because children do not want to read anything with words in it and even if it does have words they do not read them anyway they may say they do but they do not so that is my point of view.

Dogs are worth it!.......2000-07-25
I thought that it was a very funny book and I liked how it had all of the Peanuts characters. I am a Peanuts fanatic and I have a lot of Peanuts books, but this is still one of my favorites.
It's True.......2000-01-05
It's true, Dogs Are Worth It! No one can put a smile on your face like Schulz can. I purchased my copy to give as a gift but I wasn't able to give it up.
This Is No Dog And It Is Well Worth It!.......1999-07-08
A wonderful book in a new series featuring one year's worth of strips in a single volume. Do yourself a favor and buy them all. Mr Schulz is one of the greatest cartoonists of all time and he has been doing this for five decades, now.

Curlicues... because it's fun to say........2006-05-11
Being a member of a family that has owned two Pugs, I can attest that the author explicated the personality of the breed perfectly, as well as the devotion that develops between loving owners and their dogs. The illustrations are indeed charming, and quite accurate: one of the best is the final illustration showing one of the Pugs sleeping on top of the other, which is something Pugs do. My only complaint is that the Pugs themselves do not seem to be the focus of the story, but instead the "housekeeper-cook" Mrs. Hart and the "plump old lady" Mrs. Downey. No truer words, however, were written than those on page 7: "For [the Pugs'] bulging eyes shone with a ready affection, their wrinkled faces often seemed to laugh, and their tails were doubly curled with high spirits and good humor. Then how could they fail to please all folk who possessed a good measure of those happy virtues themselves?"
Wonderful.......2005-04-28
This is a delightful tale of two pugs, the different paths their lives lead them, and how they end up together once again. It's a wonderful story that they really should republish.
cute and seewt.......2001-10-05

cute story about 2 pug dogs who start out and end up togethe.......1998-12-10
This a really cute story about two pug dogs who begin their lives together, are sold to two very different owners and through a series of coincidences end up together again in the same household. The illustrations are charming. A must have for pug lovers of all ages. I wish they would republish.

Her own words as expressed verbally and through writing!.......2005-06-17
I purchased this book expecting to bathe in the luxury of Oprah's soothing whirlpool bath of motivational language, and I was not disappointed! I come to Operah through my long and growing interest in Dr. Phil, her advisor and close personal muse, and I was right in thinking that the acorn doesn't fall far from the original acorn. While Phil (Dr.) concentrates on homespun advice about how to be more like him (not tall, but living a good life, I mean), Oprah talks about motivational talking and finding your "spirit place", and although her "spirit place" often involves a separate home in the woods with waterfalls and a brook passing through the living room, you can get the same effect in a tent with a small fan or other noisy machine (one time I just left my car running and that seemed to do the trick - make sure your garage door isn't closed though!). I only give this book 3 stars because apparantly Oprah did not make this book herself but rather people followed her around and wrote everything down that she said without her noticing or hearing them. Still, though, it gives off her magic and essence, and is therefore worthy of your attention. Huzzah!
Words more important than packager.......2002-10-11
You can get lost in the fact that this is a collection of quotes by Oprah and not thoughts written by Oprah exclusively for this book.
Or you could be smart and glean wisdom from what she has to say.
How she grew up, what she learned from her errors, what she thinks of money and herself in relationship to it, the mental preparation to receive the abundance that she has and how she stays centered.
What I think thsi book is valuable for is insight, and perhaps personal inspiration for how to manage one's self in certain situations. The goal is not to become Oprah, it is to become the best YOU possible.
You take or you leave it, but you integrate it into the lessons and challenges of your own life. The same with John D. Rockefeller, Bill Gates, Jenny Jones (hahhahahaha----kidding).
A chronology of quotations.......1998-08-24
While this is a very interesting and well researched book on Oprah, keep in mind that it is an unauthorized biography. This book is basically a chronology of Oprah's life, and Adler does a decent job of stringing her quotes into a coherent history. A nice bonus is the section of short quotes on a wide variety of subjects. If you love Oprah, you'll probably love this book!
An unauthorized book of Oprah Winfrey quotes........1998-08-14
Bill Adler has taken past interviews, articles, and speeches of Oprah Winfrey and complied _his list_ of her best quotations. It's an unauthorized book - meaning Oprah didn't write it nor was she involved in the production. Some quotations show the source of information with a date and some don't -- which makes it a bit disappointing not to have the history or context pertaining to the quote. If you have an extensive Oprah collection, you'll want this book just to say you have everything, otherwise there are many other good Oprah biographies available.
Book Description
Bill O'Reilly, FOX News commentator and host of the political talk show The O'Reilly Factor, is known for expressing his opinions. Is he "fair and balanced" or unabashedly partisan? In The World According to Bill O'Reilly, his words speak for themselves:
" "Once the war against Saddam Hussein begins, we expect every American to support our military, and if you can't do that, just shut up. Americans, and indeed our foreign allies who actively work against our military once the war is underway, will be considered enemies of the state by me."
" "Putting your ego above the welfare of others equals the loss of all credibility."
" "Americans deserve honest, fair reporting from all news organizations. In this age of terror, we must have accurate information and hear both sides of issues in order to adequately protect ourselves and our families. This is not a conservative/liberal issue. This is an honesty issue. The country needs its premier newspapers to be trustworthy and look out for us, but not so be bitterly ideological that they can't report the news straight."

Edward Sorel has been wielding his squiggle-prone, satirical pen for more than 40 years, poignarding the heroes, villains, and holy fools of history. Sometimes he looks far into the past for his subjects: we're not likely to see a more human image of Moses, parting the Red Sea for a horde of skeptical followers. ("If he's so smart," one complains, "why doesn't he make these dead fish disappear?") And his picture of a pouting Napoleon, who's just given Josephine her walking papers for failing to produce an heir, catches the man at a less-than-imperial moment. Yet Sorel is even better when it comes to modern times. Who else has gotten down the dime-store priapism of Hugh Hefner with such good humor? Sorel captures James Joyce's myopic intensity, Tom Wolfe's white-suited dandyism, and Lyndon Johnson at his grinning, victorious, ballot-stuffing best. Serving up our household gods in black and white or color, Unauthorized Portraits opens a window into contemporary culture, and a hugely entertaining one at that.
Book Description
From one of America's most brilliant satirical artists: his best, his funniest, his most deliciously wicked and memorable caricatures of the past thirty years.
Here are history's great and near great--166 heroes, rogues, fools, and geniuses: from Moses leading his kvetching people ("Some miracle! If I don't get pneumonia, that'll be a miracle") through the parted Red Sea waters, to George Gershwin teaching Fred Astaire a dance step, to Madonna seen as a horseperson of the apocalypse ; from Brahms dozing off as Liszt plays, to Rodin auditioning models, and Reagan as Robin Hood, taking from the poor and giving to the rich.
Here are such fabulous targets for the satirist's pen as LBJ, Nixon and the Watergate Gang, a holstered Jimmy Carter at high noon in the hostage crisis, and a poignant Dan Quayle as the central figure in a comic strip about a man who wants a little respect.
And it's pure pleasure to watch Sorel portray Tom Wolfe in his famous white suit or Woody Allen and Mia Farrow caught in The Storm, or draw a bead on such superstars as Picasso and John Updike, Barbra Streisand, Colette, Truman Capote, and the entire cast of Casablanca. Each of the book's three sections--"History," "Entertainment and the Arts," "Politics" --has a wry autobiographical introduction, and every drawing has its own pithy, informative caption.
Here's wit aplenty, visual and verbal--a splendid satirical view of the wise, the beautiful, the clever, and the flawed, over the centuries, who loom large in our lives and in our imaginations.

A One-of -A-Kind Book!.......2007-07-19
I have been a fan of Editorial Cartoons and cartoons in general for many years. The Editorial Cartoons we get in our daily papers are pretty much written around the news of the day and are wonderful in their own way. However, they tend to lose their punch very quickly and are not intended to be otherwise.
What Sorel gives us is more the thinking man's portraits presented as caricatures. His portraits are more akin to what you see in the higher scale magazines such as The New Yorker and Esquire. Because more thought goes into these portraits;they tend to give a picture of that person over a much longer period of time and therefoe gets to their real essence.
When you look at one of these portraits, say the one of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino on page 94,you can't help but agree that Sorel has really captured the essence of these two great actors. His portrayal of the 5th Anniversary of Watergate,on page 147,as a picnic ,leaves one with the thought; What a party it was! Then on page 108 ,he steps back and portrays the Great Modern Irish Writers,Joyce,Yeats,O'Casey,Beckett,Lady Gregory,Oliver St.John O'Gogarty and Synge, and what a serious and determined lot they be;and little wonder there was no place among them for the irrasible Brendan Behan.Whether it's Sinatra,Bacall,LBJ,Nixon,Bogart,Hefner,Eastwood,Caruso,Napoleon,MadonnaReagan,Quale,Truman & Ike on page 166,Clinton in the company of Past Presidents,or Gingrich being consoled by Uncle Sam;if you like characters and the artistic portrayal of them by a great caricaturist;you'll love this book
All Illustrator should read this!.......2002-09-22
This is a great book and a must have. Not only are the illustrations great but the text is also wonderful
I'd give it ten stars!.......2001-01-07
Mr. Sorel is the most elegant cartoonist there is! His sophisticated draftsmanship is superb, the subtle way he uses colors has no match and, well, I guess even the guys he most mercilessly trashes ought to be proud to appear in such fantastic cartoons!
Besides, the man obviously knows what he's talking about: art, books, movies, music, politics... Simply put, Edward Sorel's work is THE example of what an intelligent cartoonist should look like.
A must-read for cartoonists and illustrators........1997-10-15
"Unauthorized Portraits" is a sumptuous must-read for the working cartoonist or illustrator (like myself). Edward Sorel's clever drawings and candid text will amuse, inspire, humble, and even comfort any commercial artist or pop culture enthusiast. Sorel is an artist and a gentleman (I know; I've met him) - but he is also a visual raconteur. I hope his agile pens never run dry.
Book Description
"You're fired." Those two words increased Donald Trump's popularity in this country a thousandfold in the spring of 2004. Trump is the dealmaker's dealmaker. His forays into real estate, golf, casinos, and now television have made him one of the most successful people in the world. Often considered brash, arrogant, and outrageous, Trump's views on succeeding-and failing-in life, as well as in business, are depicted in The World According to Trump. Author Ken Lawrence uses Trump's actual words on the art of making the deal. Some quotes may surprise, others may offend, but certainly all are entertaining.
" I've had bright people ask me why I talk to porters and maids. . . . Those are the people who make it all work. If they like me, they will work harder and I pay well.
" It was a little bit by accident that the term "You're fired" came about. But when you think about it, it's a very precise, very beautiful two words.
" If someone screws you, screw them back harder.
" The reason my hair looks so neat all the time is because I don't have to deal with the elements very often.
" Every successful person has a very large ego.
" My life is an open book. I am a good son. I am a good parent. I've got four wonderful kids. I've been married twice. I don't smoke. I've never had a glass of alcohol. I've never taken illegal drugs of any kind. I've never even had a cup of coffee.
Customer Reviews:
A fluffy little quote book.......2005-12-26
A three-page Donald Trump bio serves as an introduction, hitting most of the major points of his life and career. That's followed by 284 quotes on 15 general topics including money, deals, golf, women, politics, etc. The selections were taken from print and nonprint sources dating from 1983 to 2004. Most of them are from the last six of those years, with a focus on the success of "The Apprentice." Here you can read Trump's words and notable sayings, the good ones and the not-so-good ones:
"Money makes life easier, but it doesn't make you happy."
"There's a big difference between creating wealth and being a member of the lucky sperm club."
"I do believe I'm too forthright to be a politician."
"If someone screws you, you screw them back harder."
Yes, Trump provides the media with memorable sound bites. The compiler adds a bit of explanation whenever the lines are taken out of context. The last chapter contains 30 quotes from other individuals who know Trump or who have had some kind of contact with him. Some support him, some don't. This treatment is at least as neutral as it can be when it comes to painting a picture of its subject.
If you are truly interested in learning about Donald Trump, "The World According to Trump" won't tell you much. Instead, pick up Timothy L. O'Brien's "Trump Nation: The Art of Being the Donald" for the best current biography of the real estate mogul. Just like "The World According to Martha," this little book is nice enough for a 45-minute scan, but then it's time to move on to something more substantial. The cover photo is probably one of the best close shots of The Donald available, though. True fans and devotees may want to purchase this book just for that image, which is suitable for framing.
