One of the above "reviews" was accidently listed as a review and has given the book zero stars when in fact it is comments from the author. The book was fantastic.
Getting Partnering Right.......2000-08-31
I am in the process of establishing partnerships with our firm's suppliers and subcontractors so that we may improve the service that we provide to our customers. The first step in the process is to be sure that our suppliers and subcontractors understand the concept of partnering for a win-win agreement. "Getting Partnering Right" is by far the best explanation of what I am trying to accomplish that I have read. After an initial meeting, I ask our potential partner to read the book and to call me when he has read it.Without exception, all have stated that "Now I get it". In a follow-up interview it is very easy to tell if they really do "get it". So far I have purchsed 28 copies for distribution to potential partners and to some our own employees. In addition, some of our partners have purchased more copies for distribution within their own companies. Maybe this one should be rated 6 stars!!
Book Description
The 'Resource-Based View of the Firm' has emerged over the last fifteen years as one of the dominant perspectives used in strategic management. It addresses the fundamental research question of strategic management: Why it is that some firms persistently outperform others? Resource-Based Theory provides a considered overview of this theory, including the latest developments, from one of the key thinkers in its development. In broad terms it offers an alternative to Michael Porter's approach, focusing more on the competences and capabilities of the firm, rather than its positioning in its chosen markets. Jay B. Barney has long been recognised as one of the leading contributor to the resource-based theory literature. In this book he has collaborated with Delwyn N. Clark to produce the first book to examine the theory in a holistic and in-depth manner. The authors explore not only the applications of the theory in research, teaching, and practice, but also its early roots in traditional economic theory, development and proliferation in the 1990s, and later influence on management thinking.

Product Description
"Finally someone has put it all together... the reasons, the principles and the road map for establishing supply management as a sustainable source of competitive advantage. This book is a complete how to guide on developing a successful supply management organization and process. If you re interested in a clear framework for moving beyond purchasing to effective supply management, this book is for you."
--Elliot Grover, Vice President-Procurement, Mars Snackfood US
Strategic Supply Management articulates how to create a supply management organization that you can count on to deliver reliable sources of supply and presents a framework for achieving sustainable competitive advantage.
The popular press is loaded with stories about supply problems affecting many industries. Extensive outsourcing of major portions of a firm s value chain, relentless pressure from customers to improve product and service functionality and to reduce costs across almost every industry, and steep global competition have combined to create a search for new sources of competitive advantage. This search has led to supply management, the management of suppliers, and improved supply base relationships to become hot topics in the boardrooms of many organizations.
This book presents a road map and understanding of what it really means to practice strategic supply management. No longer a transactional activity, supply management is about creating and sustaining new sources of competitive advantage. Dr. Trent presents a holistic approach that focuses on breadth rather than depth so that readers can see how the different elements that comprise strategic supply management come together to create a hard-to-duplicate source of competitive advantage.
Strategic Supply Management presents, in a concise manner, the need for supply leadership, the organizational enablers that must be in place, and the strategies and approaches that leading organizations pursue to achieve advantages in price and cost, quality, cycle time, technology, flexibility, and end customer responsiveness.
This is a must read for any procurement or supply management professional; finance, operations, and engineering functional managers; executives who interact on a regular basis with supply management professionals; and academics and students.

Book Description
Scrapbooking and quilting are each two-billion-dollar industries.
Combine the two crafts and you've got a collection that will fly off the shelves.
A scrapbook gets put away; a quilt goes on display--perhaps framed and hung on the wall, or draped over the couch, placed right where everyone can see it. These 24 original quilts incorporate the same treasured photos and memorabilia that normally go into a scrapbook, but in a unique and unusual format. And they're fun to make too, thanks to the many innovative techniques that are both easy for a beginner to master and excitingly new to the experienced quilter. Direct print favorite pictures on fabric with an inkjet printer. Arrange images on the quilt to tell a story. Tea-dye material to make it will look antique, creating a perfect background for those vintage photos. Extensive opening sections on art and design basics provide a plethora of invaluable tips, from how to mix and match colors to how to use pattern and texture. (There's even a list of the 10 most common composition mistakes.) Quilters, collage artists, scrapbookers, and those who work with mixed media and assemblage will be thrilled at the abundance of breathtaking ideas on these pages.

Not good for beginners.......2000-10-25
Being a beginner I found that this book was not at all helpful in providing a very good understanding of how to make the quilts. It was a better kind of idea giver than a how to book.

Unique, creative, personal, easy-to-grasp & FUN to read!.......1998-11-24
Ami has written a book for both the expert quilter, who'd like to try something new, and for those of us who always wanted to try a quilt, but were never quite inspired enough. Since getting my computer and scanner last summer, I have had a blast making greeting cards with old photos for just about everyone in my circle of friends and family. "Creating Scrapbook Quilts" took me to the next step, preserving those old photos in quilt form, for generations to come. The book will delight you, inspire you and move you. The photos of these quilts (most by Ami, but some others) are beautiful and detailed. Along with descriptions of the step-by-step construction, you will get a glimpse into the lives of the quilt's owners (and makers). I was inspired enough to read the book twice more, then start my first quilt. I am now making my second and have just ordered three more of Ami's books. This book will have you going through old photos and walking down memory lane. You may even mend some broken fences along the way!
Easily create an heirloom quilt!.......1998-01-06
This book is a wonderful guide to help you make a memory quilt. It's written well with easy to follow instructions, full of pictures and graphic designs. If I can make one of these, then anybody can. A lot of fun--both to make and to give!
