I didn't like this book because I was looking for another kind of puzzles, not the same old ones. "Out of the box" means to me to think in a new way,or to see it differently, but this books asks me to guess or to read author's mind.

The main basis of Lloyd's puzzles is finding an alternative way of interpreting a scene and this collection is a worthwhile challenge for those who like to sit calmly and wait for inspiration. It is refreshing to see a puzzle designer with new ideas and I heartily recommend buying it.

Learn to think differently.......2005-11-26

This is a good book. It contains some sets of question to be answered. Try to figure those questions out and you may be surprised with the answer given at the Answer Key section.

At the first few questions, I found all my guesses are wrong. The answer was unpredictable and unusual. After answering half of the questions in this book, I can answer the next questions better. "Learn from your own mistake."

This books teach me to think differently, think outside the box. We are taught not many creativity lessons at school. Mostly the subjects are strongly drill our logic. That's why some people think this book is useless, crap, etc. In fact, this is a good way to unveil the potential in you.

Working things out that is. I found Lloyds puzzle books to be incredibly entertaining and really helped me think outside the box. This is actually not an unheard of phenomena and is supported by many researchers in the field of creativity, that one can improve ones capacity for creative thought with puzzles like these. I found this book to be a lot of fun and would strongly reccomend it.

Into The Mind of a Puzzle Wizard.......2005-07-14

The best puzzles are not always the ones with the most logical solution, but oftentimes those that stimulate your brain to make connections in an entirely new manner. Just as there are multiple proofs to mathematical problems, there are many novel ways to solve creative thinking puzzles that require various mixtures of convergent and divergent thinking. In Test Your Creative Thinking, Lloyd King brings together an adequate balance of intelligence, creativity and humor that pushed me to invent new patterns of thought.

One of the features I appreciated most about the book is the way it progresses evenly from low to high degrees of difficulty in a continuous development. Many of the items are deceptively easy, or seem to have no solution at all, but that is because the solution is typically a creative twist that is completely unique to Lloyd King. The advanced test will be a challenge to even the best puzzle solvers, and will without a doubt be a mental exercise worth engaging in.

What I enjoyed most about this book, as well as Lloyd's other books and creations, is the humor and easy going fun tone throughout the book. Many of the puzzles are indeed out of the box and the stories and settings that accompany them are no exception. I have purchased many puzzle books, and spent countless hours solving puzzles that seem canned or derivations of many others I had seen before. In Test Your Creative Thinking, this is definitely not the case, as puzzle wizard Lloyd King provides an opportunity to experience the workings of his equally divergent and convergent mind.

What I especially like about Reeve Lindbergh's memoir is its candid and utterly sincere tone. This is not a dusty historical treatise, it is a simple sharing of thoughts and experiences. The reader is drawn into the life of a young girl with remarkable and famous parents. We already had an idea of what it was like to live with Charles Lindbergh from the diaries of his wife, Anne Morrow. Now, Reeve's book gives another view, helping to round out the picture. Along the way, she presents us with snapshot images that offer glimpses into his character. Charles Lindbergh wasn't an easy man to understand; and if he is difficult for us adults to get a handle on, what was it like for his offspring? Reeve tells us, in her straightforward and heartwarming manner. This book should be an essential part of any Lindbergh fan's library. I highly recommend it.

Like Mother, Like Daughter.......2006-03-17

Reeve Lindbergh tells stories that we want to hear about everyday life with her famous, complicated father and her intelligent, artistic mother. Reeve's delicate, precise prose is reminiscent of her mother's style of writing. A reviewer said of Anne Lindbergh that she "combed" her life for meaning and the daughter seems tuned into that same compulsion. It helps that she writes with as much insight as did her mother. The passage that describes the hours mother and daughter spent together after the death of Reeve's child is heartbreakingly revealing of the private Anne and her anguish after the kidnapping and death of her own child. Reeve's reminiscences of flying with her father (she was not an enthusiast) and her longing for her enigmatic father are poignant. She does not avoid discussing Lindbergh's perceived anti-Semitism; she does not attempt to defend him but rather keeps her emphasis on the effect this controversy had (and has) on her connection with him. I challenge any daughter to read Reeve's account of her visit to her father's childhood home without weeping.

Opens the door to a mysterious family.......2002-02-26

There can be no doubt that Reeve Lindbergh's memoir is the most touching book about that family that I have read. Through her eyes we go beyond the covers of other books and see what it really meant to be a Lindbergh.

They were almost a closed society onto themselves, yet they still experienced the same joys and sorrows as the rest of us. We find the man who was depised as an isolationist to be a concerned and loving father who read to his children.

We dine with the children at their grandmother's house and we soar above the Connecticut house on Saturdays. The famed aviator at the controls and a bored child in the rear seat.

After reading this book I felt very attached to this famous family. Being the same age as Reeve herself, my only knowledge of the Lindbergh's was the famous flight and the kidnapping as I read in history books. Now, after this book, I feel as though I have become part of them.

It can only be summed up in one word, wonderful.

Brilliantly written autobiographical essays.......2001-12-17

Previous reviews are accurate about the quality of this book and the content, but neglect to mention that it is an extraordinary work of literature. Ms. Lindbergh has composed a series of memory-reflections (she consciously eschews hyphenations like that but I don't know how else to say it), connecting each to the next like a string of pearls. The prose is beautiful, the depth of detail always just right, the psychological observations and self-reflections are compelling, and though her book is more thematically focused, I would rank it with Arthur Miller's "Timebends" among brilliant autobiographical essays. A little-known gem of a book. And look at that cover photo!

Raves for Reeve.......2001-06-10

This beautifully written book tells what it's like to grow up as one of the Lindbergh children. What otherwise was a most private family, Reeve opens the door to their New England home and lets us see the personal side of Charles and Anne. She writes honestly, though at times it must hurt, and does address the subject of the kidnapping head on. If you've ever had an interest in any facet of the Lindberghs' life, do not miss this important book.

Absolutely a must to read!.......2001-07-28

This book has uplifted me during trying times. I have seen God's miracles as well but during trials can forget to "hand it over" and trust in His faithfulness. These stories helped me, for example when I was moving to another state with much reluctance, by telling of another persons similar experience along with the outcome which helped encourage my heart and remind me that God has a perfect plan in all things. It helped me to change my heart from fearing to trusting God's direction for me. The stories are rich though not too long in length. It reminds me of the daily devotionals that are quick to read but are rich in depth.

It was pretty amazing to read stories about myself and some special people in my life, published in such a wonderful book full of God's miracles. Candy wrote the stories exactly as I shared them, from my heart. Her book really shows the power of prayer, faith and the astounding love of God. Not only did she publish stories I gave her, but also stories that my daughter, Devonne shared with her. Devonne and I both feel it was a privilege to share our miracles! If you want to reaffirm your faith, your love for God, you'll surely do that after reading the awesome stories in this book.

After reading half the book, I found I had to write a review. The best word I could use to describe this is "telling". The general population is so blind to the things that go on around them. This is raw. This is real. And the author paints a vivid picture that makes the blood flow in all the right places. ;) I am not in the "lifestyle", but I sure have a much better understanding of what goes on. Looking forward to the next volume.

I am an avid reader of christian books and this one is definitely in my top 10. It is truly a wonderful book. The author, from the age of 5, is blessed with the mystical grace of being able to see and speak to her guardian angel. Her angel guides and enlightens her in a variety of situations in her childhood and adolescence, and she she explains in detail these accounts in the book. The angels intercessions and lessons are so heartwarming and inspirational! Her angel teaches her and encourages her beginning at a very young age to be virtuous, to endeavor to please God and to do His will and how to make sacrifices out of love for God.(...)

Such a huge gap exists in our understanding of the mentally disabled that this book has long been needed. Somehow we've forgotten they are spiritual beings like the rest of us. Robert Bittner writes from his lifelong experience with profound insight and with practical suggestions that are simple to read and respond to. Personally gratifying are his descriptions of his times with our developmentally disabled son and his father. I could wish everyone would open this book and let it open mind and heart.

I glanced at the table of contents. Why women need female mentors...What is a mentor anyway?...How do you find a mentor?...Love you hate you-healing the mother daughter bond. I turned to that chapter and found in the pages new definitions,interpretations and possibilities for working on my difficult relationship with my adult daughter. The ideas were refreshing,sometimes afirming,and challenging. Recognizing the difference between mothering and mentoring was full of possibilities for healing. The book shares many of the interviews with people in mentoring relationships and sites some studies in psychology and anthropology to support the ideas. How can we turn the imaginary fairy godmother into a real person who can give incouragement,guidance and help us to be free to be our full selves. this is a very good book by awesome spiritual women. Much to learn here and it has a "study guide" in the back of each chapter.

A gentle invitation to spiritual depth.......2002-01-13

This book is a treasure for women who love God and desire to know Him better! Bence introduces us to godly women from the past, sharing excerpts of their writings and then applying them to modern life with a gentle and personal writing style that made me feel I was talking to a good friend.

Here's one excerpt that meets me where I live: "Our society is so conditioned to instant gratification that praying through Scripture may be a difficult adjustment. We are encouraged to read through the Bible in a year, not to linger over individual words that move us. Perhaps the reason we do not experience God more fully is because we do not slow down long enough for His divine presence to permeate our consciousness. We cannot allot fifteen minutes a day and command that God fit into our schedules when we are not willing to linger to enjoy His presence when it is given. Much of the joy of being in God's presence is the slowing of all other senses and luxuriating in that timeless space. Isn't a slower pace what we so value on vacation? Why then do we not avail ourselves of a daily vacation in the presence of our Lord?"

Each chapter includes a few questions for practical reflection and several Scripture readings.

As a born-again, Protestant believer, I had never heard of these "women saints" nor sampled their writings. I am grateful to Bence (an Episcopalian) for sharing with me what these godly women learned about our Lord in their life of faith. This is a wonderful book that calls us away from our "busyness" for God into intimacy and deeper relationship with Him.
