Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse........2007-09-23
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse. Has all the details to help you start or clean-up an operation and help it run like a well oiled machine.
This is a must...........2006-10-30
This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.
It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.
I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .
Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.
Great warehousing and material handling book.......2003-05-03
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.
Book Description
This third edition includes updates in manufacturing logistics, integrated logistics, process design and home delivery and brand new sections on warehouse receipt and dispatch. Also contains an thorough explanation of new technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID), voice technology, satellite crane systems and dynamic pick systems.

superb authoring, easy reading..........2000-05-26
a reference book for everyone interested in logistics...
Book Description
This book is a guide for Logistician's (military or civilian) in the execution of Movement Control and Distribution Management. - Provides examples of procedures and guidance utilized by our armed forces operating in Iraq to date, as well as being reviewed as emerging doctrine for the future. - Presents information for staff management that incorporates manual and automated procedures to monitor and track movement and commodities on today's modern battlefields. - Provides a process to utilize data from different automation systems, which do not talk to one another, as well as incorporates manual procedures to develop a system to monitor and track movement and commodities on today's modern battlefields. By doing this, we have provided the commander with a focused staff battle rhythm that works. Due to the Army Transformation and Spiral Development, there is a lack of documentation on just how to interpret and implement the new concepts and automation applications, and synchronize their usage and development. Many of the ideas and process in this book have not advanced beyond the conjectural level. The work covered is an initial effort to make operational these new ideas and procedures and provide them as training in a classroom and wartime environment. The uniqueness of the logistical mission and the technology of these services, this book may be guided towards a rather select audience. But due to the tactics and methods being used by our enemies in the field, it is important to understand that at all levels, the ability to have visibility and command and control of movement within our battle space is essential.

Towards the Establishmenf of Doctrine.......2007-02-26
As is well known, the war fighting ability of the U.S. Army has surprised the world in the speed with which it has been able to win over other forces. Less known, because it is never in the spotlight unless it fails, is the ability that the American Army had to keep itself supplied as it advanced across Iraq.
This book is written for professionals within the Department of Defense. It is based on the management of inventory flows, rather than the management of inventory levels. A key to its success is rapid, reliable communications and the computer management of the supply chain so that the forward logistic nodes are transit operations rather than large supply stockpiles forward. This requires an agile Combat Service Support force structure.
Based on experience in Iraq, the author has written this book as a first step in formalizing what was done into becoming the standard doctrine of the Army.

Book Description
The third-party logistics industry is a growing field. Relationships between third-party logistics providers and customer firms demand the creation of logistics contract where the necessary business and legal agreements are stipulated. Until now, the creation and negotiation of these agreements have been based on custom. This is the first practical handbook to support managers in the creation and negotiation of logistics contracts from the legal and economic perspective. The book provides the general framework and an extensive analysis of the content, structure and best practices of logistics contracts.

Logistics contracts.......2007-04-22
The book has the very great merit of filling a vacuum, anybody dealing with logistics and distribution is faced with logistics service contracts. It is a worthwhile attemp at organising that body of knowledge from a legal perspective giving guidance and models in English, the language of international contracts. On the minus side: the English of non native speakers is often convoluted and difficult to follow; more and more extensive model contracts could be provided (perhaps through a web site) and the book does not cover the non legal aspects (e.g. quantitative ) of a tender and then a contract (e.g. KPIs, data analysis, tariff structures). A good starting point to move past one's local knowledge and into international contracts but by no means a definitive and comprehensive treatement.

New Third Edition Updates Computer Area Significantly.......2006-08-11
The military has pioneered the concepts of logistics -- indeed napoleon was responsible for the development of canning foodstuffs to provide for his armies. As the military has gotten more complex but must still provide for everything their soldiers need, the military's development of what's now called ILS (Integrated Logistics Support) has gotten more developed. Beyond the military, various commercial ventures must also provide for logistics support. When your automobile has a problem you expect the dealer to have parts. These types of companies have developed commercial systems that are based on those of the military.
This book, now in its third edition, is based on MIL HDBK 502, Acquisition Logistics and MIL-PRF-49506 Logistics Management Information. Basically it takes the military documents and makes sense out of them for people who must implement ILS systems. The third edition updates the information on the available software-based systems, commercial off the shelf solutions and the latest DoD requirements.
Here in one volume is basically a complete introduction to ILS. It's not a small book, over 500 pages and pretty small type for older eyes like mine.
Excellent ILS reference, with potential commercial uses.......2002-05-20
My motivation for buying this book came from my extensive experience with material maintenance management during my 22 year career in the navy, and subsequent experience with integrated logistics in Department of Defense contracting. I used the first edition of this book as a reference when I was on a proposal team for a DoD contract, and found it to be one of the best references available because it distilled tens of thousands of pages of directives, instructions and related material into less than 500 pages. It covered the topic in sufficient detail as to serve as an authoritative reference as well as to get other members of the team up-to-speed in ILS.
During subsequent consulting engagements for commercial clients I used many of the concepts and methods detailed in this book to outline requirements for automated materials and maintenance management systems. In particular, any commercial business domain, such as refinery maintenance or maintenance data collection and analysis are candidates for applying parts of ILS to commercial uses. This book then becomes more valuable to a wider audience than DoD contractors.
A second use for the concepts is the structured and proven approach to an encompassing systems maintenance management initiative within IT. For example, the use of logistics support analysis is a sound approach to planning enterprise-wide maintenance from a cost management perspective. Moreover, using a modified (and shortened) form of logistics support analysis records is a good foundation for enterprise asset management, as well as developing a reliability baseline.
While this book has obvious value to readers from the DoD contracting community, it also contains information that can be tailored to commercial uses.

Book Description
The quality of transport logistics is now recognized as being vital to the success of many organisations. The ability to transport goods quickly, safely, economically and reliably is seen as vital to a nation's prosperity and capacity to compete in a rapidly globalising economy. Logistics has advanced significantly during the past twenty years as companies have appreciated the gains from such initiatives as limiting inventories, making use of 'seamless' distribution services, and taking advantage of advances in telecommunication and information technologies. Institutional changes, such as deregulation and privatization, have in many countries led to contexts in which these changes could take place. The integration of transportation into the production process through advanced information systems and the application of modern management techniques is now at the centre of logistics. This volume, the second in the series of Handbooks i
