Overpriced for what you get.......2007-10-22
This book does have a lot of useful information contained within the pages but it is impossible to sit down and read it. The writing is very bland and I think it would be impossible to read it cover to cover. However I have skimmed through the entire book to get a better understanding of its contents and refer back to it from time to time during projects.
As for the online portal I agree with the other reviewer, it is not worth the price of the book. And I really didn't like that it expires after a year.
If you are even looking at this book, I assume it is required reading for a class. If that is the case, buy it used, even if you don't get the online access, it is not worth the extra money.
The only thing active is the buyer's credit card! Tell your University not to use this book!.......2006-06-29
There is NO review material in this book. All of the review material must be accessed online. An activation code that expires after a year must be used to access any of the online review material.
My new finance books (hardback) cost only $35 more for double the number of pages, smaller print (the print size in Kotler's book looks like a freshman trying to make the minimum page length), and hundreds of exercises.
Marketing 2.0 is not worth anything close to the price. The buyer essentially receives a $115 magazine with an offer to subscribe to the publishers site.

Customer Reviews:
Good Basic Book on Management.......2007-01-25
This is a good basic book on management which delves into the application of management concepts in organizations. The book explains how the four functions of management namely planning, organizing, leading and controlling are integrated and how they contribute to the success of a firm.
The authors methodically explain the management concepts and they provide readers with various tools and techniques that they can employ to effectively manage their organizations. The authors reinforced their message with numerous examples, illustrations, stories and case studies that are useful for assimilating the management concepts. There are some useful internet references that the reader can refer to should they need additional information. However, one does not need to stop reading to refer to the internet site but rather can visit it at one's own pleasure.
This is well written book in simple and straightforward English which should allow any reader with basic understanding of English to follow and understand the message. The book is also well laid out and attractive. It also covers ethical considerations that are very critical in today's business environment.
All-in-all, this is a good and comprehensive book on management which should meet the needs of business students at undergraduate levels or for any reader who needs to learn the fundamental management principles and their practical application.
Management.......2007-01-05
A very engaging book with many tools for being an effective leader. Book cites true life stories of success complete with groundbreaking innovation by company executives.
Mgmt. Review.......2006-09-14
The book was simplistic in the concepts and examples, little boring, but good book for high school business major wanna-bees
Great Book for Beginning Managers!.......2006-09-10
I am in a MBA program with little management background. I find this book to be excellent. It has tons of graphs with color and lots of case studies. It comes with an access code for you to get onto the website to take tests. If you are new to business I recommend this book.
Nice package, no Substance.......2006-03-04
This book looks really attractive. The layout is interesting, and makes it easy to find things. That is about the extent of the positives of this book, however.
This book features just about every annoying aspect of todays textbooks:
-The shotgun approach to teaching: instead of actually laying down any principles, the book uses the touchy feely "multiple persepectives" approach which results in a confused student wondering what he or she was supposed to have learned.
-Useless ethics. The book supposedly teaches ethics, but to avoid making anyone mad, it just tiptoes around issues with vague "thinking" questions.
-Poor word definitions. This book defines words in strange runaround ways, which don't make any sense. I've also seen some a lot of words defined as a different type (i.e. an adjective defined as a noun).
-Overly Complex diagrams. Studies of the brain show that we can only remember an average of 7 details about an item. Yet the book is full of diagrams with 11, 15, or 20-something items. It's simply not possible to be able to recall that many elements of a diagram without extensive study.
-Hey look, there's this thing called the internet. We should use it for something useful, but instead lets just annoy the student!
This book is full of annoying little references to internet content. When I'm reading, I just don't want to stop, open a webpage, and look at a silly little quiz. Additionally, students who buy a used book don't get a license for the internet content.
-Requiring professors to use pre-designed "test banks". In my class, our professor is required by the manufacturer to use only the test bank provided by the manufacturer. The questions are horrible! They don't address thing the professor chooses to speak on that our outside the textbook, and are very vague and confusing.
I realize the writers of this book put a lot of effort into it, and it really is an attractive product. To be usable, however,

book review.......2004-03-16
This book came to me in great condition and the sender sent it extremely fast. The sender was kind and considerate and ensured that I recieved the book. I am very happy with my purchase.
Very Good Book.......2003-08-07
The Book gives the best insight for Information systems and its application to the real world. I congratulate the authors for this. I am reading the B.Sc. in Business and Computing at the University of Malta and I have successfully done two assignments and two exams on informatuion systems. The Help I got from this book is great and it is like having the tutor at home.
Not recommended..........2003-07-26
Did not like format of book and added-value from web-site is minimal. A study guide or comprehensive chapter outlines would be helpful - neither are available.
Essentials of Management Information Systems by Laudon.......2003-07-18
I've taught approximately 34 sections of collegiate courses
including MIS, Law, Economics, Accounting, Statistics and
College Algebra. This text is a good general introduction
into the area of MIS. It explains basic definitions and
provides an organizational hierarchy or framework for
strategic systems, MIS, Knowledge-based systems and
artificial intelligence, operational systems etc. It is a
good introduction to MIS because students need an overall
framework to apply the technology. They cannot get this
framework from computer programming alone. The Laudon text
provides many diagrams, system flow charts, CD-ROM
supplements and a plethora of meaningful learning tools.
At the end of the work, the author includes a number of
fairly complicated case studies which provide random
operational facts which students must organize utilizing
the MIS technology taught in the Laudon text. My students
did well in the course and enjoyed the rigorous presentation.
This text is not for the mediocre student. It is geared
for the B or better student.
Quick scan on everything related to MIS and computing.......2002-06-20
I read this book in order to find essentials of enterprise information systems (ERP, document management) explained to be useful for under-graduate students. This book however discusses everything related to computers and just covers lots of individual subjects without getting deep enough in any of them. The result is a mess that lacks focus. For university use this book handles things too generally. It also contains inaccuracies of some techniques explained which shouldn't be the case on textbooks. Some problems are certainly due to the fast development in IT industry and this books too large focus to have current facts right. This book is useful only to people with no prior knowledge of computers and information systems as an introduction to what all there is. Then they can buy books with proper focus individual subjects to really learn these things. I'd hate to work as an engineer in a company run by business people with MIS knowledge only according to this book.

Book Description
The first volume in a major series,
Technology, Culture and Competitiveness will be an essential read for all those who need to deal with the causes and consequences of rapid technological change in an increasingly globalized world, whether they be government policy-makers, managers of multi-national corporations, commentators on the international scene or specialists in and students of international politics, economics and business studies. The authors discuss three related areas: how we think about technology and international relations/international political economy; in what sense technology is a fundamental component of national competitive advantage and what national, local and corporate policy should be in light of this; and what the relationship is between technological innovation and global and political economics change.
Technology is discussed not just in an instrumental sense-- as a tool of power and an object of policy--but equally in a transcendental sense--as a key to shaping and structuring how we understand and interpret reality. The final section of the book presents case studies of three core sectors of the world--political economy, finance, aviation and automobiles.
