Book Description

Readers will come away from Introduction to Law with a new understanding of how the American legal system functions. The book successfully introduces the major areas of law with a look at the principles and terminology of each. Plus, it examines the roles of governmental structures and various legal professionals and the part each plays in the system. Interest in the topic is further piqued by a presentation of new cases in every chapter, as well as a discussion of current issues in such areas as procedure, torts, probate and domestic relations. Finally, readers can challenge the knowledge they have gained through suggested Internet research.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as I'd hoped.......2005-02-04

This book did not teach me nearly as much as I'd hoped. It gives a very superficial outline of a lot of topics, but somehow when I finished, I didn't feel like I'd learned anything.

5 out of 5 stars a MUST for future law students.......2001-06-13

I have purchased a number of law-related books from Amazon, but this book is by far the standout of the bunch. It systematically covers all of the major topics covered in the courses offered at every law school in the US comprehensively, even explaining the case briefing process. This new edition incorporates actual case law, allowing you to sample the work done at law school before actual signing your loan check and taking the plunge. Dunham clearly explains all of the basic terminology and principles underlying the first year of law school, providing the law student-to-be a firm foundation and a peace of mind before starting classes. I recommend this book without reservation to ANYONE interested in law school or interested in bulking up on their knowledge of the substance and form of law in the United States.

5 out of 5 stars First Interesting Textbook I Ever Read.......2001-06-10

I ordered this book as a requirement for an introductory paralegal course and was at first a little aprehensive about the books thickness. I started out knowing absolutely nothing about the law, the government, or the internal workings of the legal system. This book teaches the beginnings of modern law and the influences of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. The basics of many common areas of law are also covered such as contracts, probate, property, torts, criminal law, family law, and many more. This book teaches a great amount of useful information in an easy to read and easy to understand format. Plenty of possible real life scenarios are used as examples as well as real cases to help you dive deeper into the subject you are trying to grasp. This is the first school textbook I've ever actually enjoyed reading from. Key terms are boldened for easier reference and studying. For anyone interested in learning about a variety of beginning law topics, it is definately an investment worth making.

                  Book Description

This is an advanced textbook on the theory of contracting under asymmetric information, a key part of modern microeconomic theory. It examines the characteristics of optimal contracts when one party has certain relevant knowledge that the other party does not. The various problems are
presented in the same framework to allow easy comparison of the different results. The authors indicate substantial real-world applications, and exercises for students (with solutions) are provided at the end of each chapter.

                  Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Information to the reader: this book is good.......2000-04-11

In less than three hundred pages, the authors are able to introduce Moral Hazard, Adverse Selection and Signalling in an outstanding accessible way. Given the importance of contract theory in modern Economics, undoubtedely this is the first book to be read.

Each chapter is full of examples and graphs that help to understand the mathematics underneath.

The reader is supposed to know Kuhn-Tucker theorem, so any advanced undergraduate student in economics should be able to read it.

The base model, presented in chapter 2, is used as a benchmark to compare wirh the results obtained from the Moral Hazard model (brilliantly presented in chapter 3), Adverse Selection (chapter 4) and Signalling (chapter 5).

Each chapter has very well posed exercises, whose answers are in the end of the book. Furthermore, advanced themes are also discussed in the end of each chapter, giving to the reader a complete overview about theory of information.

So, since this theme has been increasingly important in modern economics, and given that this book is very easily readable, I strongly recommend it to any person who wishes to understand theory of contracts and incetives.

                    Book Description

Written from a multidisciplinary user/manager approach—rather than a designer approach, this text looks at data warehousing technologies necessary to support the business processes of the twenty-first century. It explores the basic concepts of data mining, warehousing, and visualization—with an emphasis on both technical and managerial issues and the implication of these modern emerging technologies on those issues. Includes mini-cases, narrative vignettes, and an abundance of graphics. Data mining and visualization exercises—using an included fully-enabled, but time-limited version of Megaputer's PolyAnalyst and TextAnalyst data mining and visualization software—give readers hands-on experience with real-world applications. The Data Warehouse. Data Mining and Data Visualization. Data Mining Technologies. Executive Information Systems. Designing and Building the Data Warehouse.
