Book Description
This introduction for practitioners offers a balanced view of project financing, integrating legal, contractual, scheduling, and other areas that participate in large multiparty projects, large single-asset purchases, and broad-based financing programs for fleets of assets. It mixes theories and case studies but avoids becoming too oriented toward applications in any one particular industry. It focuses on the concepts and techniques required by project finance people without being overly academic or beset by case studies. The author, who has a legal background, recognizes that some legal information is necessary, but he doesn't attempt to write a law book.
Project Finance refers to the techniques of financing projects which are dependent on cash flows for repayment, as defined by the contractual relationships within each project. By their very nature, these types of projects rely on a large number of integrated contractual arrangements for successful completion and operation. Project finance is an element within the larger field of project management. Many organizations around the world utilize project management to enable innovative processes, to plan, organize, and control strategic initiatives, to monitor enterprise performance, to analyze significant deviations, and to forecast their impact on the organization and project(s). Project management can be found in many industries today, from construction and information systems to healthcare, financial services, education, and training.
Key Features:
-A comprehensive and authoritative guide to the theory and practice of project finance.
-An international scope, covering projects in both the developed and developing worlds.

Book Description
The realities of mounting government debt, tax burdens, and an aging population raise serious concerns about the financial legacy confronting future generations. How great a fiscal burden will current policies leave to subsequent generations, and how might changes in those policies alter the intergenerational distribution of public welfare? Generational accounting has recently emerged as a robust new method of fiscal analysis and planning designed to assess the long-term sustainability of fiscal policy and to measure the extent of the financial load ultimately borne by present and future generations. A seminal contribution to public economics, generational accounting has already been adopted by 23 nations around the world.
Combining the latest and most extensive country-by-country generational analyses with a comprehensive review of generational accounting's innovative methodology, these papers are a consummate resource for economists, political scientists, and policy makers concerned with fiscal health and responsibility.
Book Description
In this book, Dr Mak views the financial market from a scientific perspective. The book attempts to provide a realistic description of what the market is, and how future research should be developed. The market is a complex phenomenon, and can be forecasted only with errors if that particular market can be forecasted at all.
The book reviews the scientific literatures on the financial market and describes mathematical procedures which demonstrate that some markets are non-random. How the markets are modeled phenomenologically and from first principle is explained.
It discusses indicators, which are quite objective, rather than price patterns, which are rather subjective. Similarities between indicators in market trading and operators in mathematics are noted, and particularly, between oscillator indicators and derivatives in Calculus. It illustrates why some indicators, e.g., Stochastics, have limited usage. Several new indicators are designed and tested on theoretical waveforms to check their validity and applicability. The indicators have a minimal time lag, which is significant for trading purposes. Common market behaviors like divergences between price and momentum are explained. A skipped convolution technique is introduced to allow traders to pick up market movements at an earlier time. The market is treated as a nonlinear phenomenon. Forecasting of when the market is going to turn is emphasized.

Cost Benefit Analysis: Concepts and Practice (3rd Edition)
ASIN: 080397132X |
Book Description
Offering a comprehensive, theoretical overview of cost-benefit analysis, this concise, groundbreaking volume translates the technical, jargon-filled terminology used in similar texts into a straightforward, easy-to-understand language.
Cost-Benefit Analysis is written with the student in mind to make cost-benefit analysis accessible to the noneconomist. Author Tevfik F. Nas begins by laying down the foundation of relevant economic theory, then carries the reader through the process by outlining the steps involved in a typical cost-benefit analysis. Including topics such as consumer surplus, compensating variation, equivalent variation, shadow pricing, income distribution, and much more, this volume is specifically tailored to meet the needs of a wide spectrum of readers. In addition,
Cost-Benefit Analysis is equipped with practice examples, case studies, and study questions that guide the student through the process at each stage of the analysis.
Sure to be used as a primary and supplemental text for courses covering areas such as public administration, urban studies, health care and nursing administration, and environmental studies,
Cost-Benefit Analysis will provide graduate and undergraduate students with the confidence they need to deal with this subject matter effectively.

Cost-benefit analysis on a macro-econical level.......2004-01-28
I used this book to learn more about cost-benefit decisions in tranportation planning, and albeit the book does not relate specifically to that field, it worked very well. The nice part is that it first discusses some macro-economical concepts before delving into cost-benefit calculations. This is very useful if you, like me, do not have a background, classes, courses or a degree in economics. As an introductory book on an undergraduate level this book is excellent.

Book Description
In this book, the mysteries of the new 'Asian definition of project finance' have been unravelled, the richness and complexities of the constantly-evolving efforts have been explored, and contrasts the Asian adapted definition with the basic model of the West.
While the book reviews the past and outlines the future for project financing in Asia, the focus is on the 'premature present', a period of seven to eight years from the late '80's to 1996, when there were few successes and countless casualties. This interval in time has been sought to provide the reader, through a temporal window, a glimpse of what it was like in this 'Age of Arbitrage' on a project financing front, armed with neither a reliable legal/regulatory framework, nor an efficient pricing mechanism. The book journeys through the short-lived victories and the morale-breaking defeats, documenting the war of attrition as the remaining players survive to traverse down the road towards a more mature and understandable project financing future.
The book begins by providing a background to project finance in Part I, including the basic project financing model and its evaluation method. It also discusses the difficulties and challenges encountered on the Asian project financing front by presenting our ideas, and then drawing upon various comparisons with Western practices to highlight the differences of project finance in Asia. In Part II, through two very distinct cases in their mentality of using debt, it presents how various firms and projects adapt to various issues, thereby revealing the winning combinations as well as the recipes for failure. A mass of detailed information has been accumulated on several cases in the data collection, Part III acts as a forum for the exchange of ideas between finance theorists and practitioners. The book presents in-depth studies of power projects while testing them against accepted theories such as what constitutes an optimal project structure, and whether, or why they hold true in the practical world. And finally, in Part IV the book presents several specialized cases which may provide different views on project finance in Asia. All discoveries have been incorporated into a new Asian model of project finance, and a conclusion summarizes all findings. With the help of the above framework, the book aims to 'Asianize' the traditional definition of project finance and to provide the reader with a greater understanding of this not-very-well-understood subject.

Book Description
This book presents the state of the art of temporal analysis and cost minimization of projects, as well as project planning under limited resources where the projects are modelled by GERT networks. These projects are characterized by a stochastic evolution structure and possible feedback. The temporal analysis exploits the fact that Markov renewal processes can be associated with so-called EOR networks (special GERT networks all of whose nodes have exclusive-or entrance). For single-machine min-sum and min-max scheduling problems with EOR precedence constraints, two polynomial algorithms are presented. General min-sum problems are solved by dynamic programming. The cost minimization of projects modeled by EOR networks leads to Markov renewal decision processes and can be reduced to a stochastic dynamic programming problem. Basic concepts from the theory of graphs and networks, Markov renewal processes, deterministic scheduling, and dynamic programming are summarized. This makes the book self-contained.
