Book Description
Under fire from environmental and social critics, the World Bank has made its growing contact with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) a major theme in its self-justification. Nelson surveys the Bank's engagement with NGOs' and shows that NGO involvement in Bank-funded projects usually means accepting project plans and economic strategies conceived by a narrow circle of government and Bank planners. While contact with community groups and private agencies has grown, key organizational traits of the Bank, political interests of its member countries, and limitations in most NGOs commitment and resources, limit the prospect for fundamental change. Internal reforms have opened the Bank's operations somewhat, but the core of its lending operations, its governing myth of apolitical development, and its insular and hierarchical organizational culture, remain firmly in place. The Bank has adapted to past demands and reforms with remarkable stability, and without monumental efforts from its would-be reformers and decisive leadership from its new president, it is on course to do the same through the 1990s.
Customer Reviews:
Slightly disappointed.......2007-07-07
I loved the drawings but the book has only 4 or 5 different butterflies that were repeated with different number of butterflies on the page. Instead of putting more varity of butterflies or the same butterflies even but in different scenery, they just kept using the same few butterflies and increased the number of butterflies on the pages throughout the book. One butterfly on one page, the same one duplicated on another, then quadrupled on another etc. throughout the book for the IDENTICAL 4 or 5 butterflies which seems to be a little lazy. This seems to be the same for all these books at least the book of flowers was the same.
Hours of Entertainment!.......2007-04-04
I bought this for a friend's niece for her ninth birthday. She loves to draw and color, so I bought this book and a pad of tracing paper for her to replicate and color the patterns over and over. It was a hit! We spent the next few hours drawing and coloring to our hearts' content! The patterns are beautifully drawn and each page offers a little something different to focus on.
Buerflies Nloom on the Pages of Ruth Heller's Coloring Book.......2000-04-18
Ruth Heller's Butterfly designs are simply beautiful, true to her other coloring books. The way that she takes each of the large images, shrinks them down and tiles them , createing an M.C. Escher-like pattern. The paper in the book is very thick and takes marker well. You don't have to worry about color bleeding through the paper because the butterflies are only printed on the front sides of the pages. This makes it easier to cut the images out for decoupage as well.

Book Description
"Anthill: A Rhyming Short Story Coloring Book" is a delightful story that is 21 pages, measures 9" x 12", has a spiral binding and is printed on high quality art paper, that is thick enough so you can color on both sides. This story is a charming account of how industrious ants meet the challenge of rebuilding their anthill every time it is knocked down! There is a jogger, a bicycle, and a frog, plus several other humorous contributing factors to the demise of the anthill, but the ants triumph in the end! It is amusing how these ants never give up, but persist until winter comes, and gives them a rest. The moral becomes quite apparent by the end. It is a story that appeals to all ages. It is a fun story for elementary school science time, especially if the class has an ant farm too!

Customer Reviews:
Coloring made fun..........2004-09-28
Is it possible for a coloring book to turn one into a bug lover? Scherek's "Anthill" does just that through its playful rhyming story of the plight and perseverance of some hard-working ants. The drawings are simple, but effectively add character and personality to the ants. All that is left for the reader to do is give free reign to imagination, while colorizing the wonderful eventful world of these ants.

A Review: Anthill.......2004-08-22
"Anthill" is an interactive and educational journey for a child of any age. It is a wonderfully written activity book that creatively incorporates science with one of children's favorite pastimes. It brilliantly allows the child to become a part of the story by giving them the opportunity to add to the imagery. "Anthill" makes story time so much fun!

Customer Reviews:
I've Been Addicted To These Books for Over 20 Years!!.......2000-12-09
I received my first Ruth Heller book in the late 1970's along with a set of markers and I've recently introduced them to my 9 year old son. The Insects & Spiders book was his first "Heller Experience" and now he's getting the remaining collection of books (Prisms, Fish, Geometric Designs, etc.) for Christmas. They're also a hit with every child in his class - boy and girl. I'm having parents call me asking where to find these books. You can't go wrong purchasing these books for any age child - even 34 year olds who still love to color.
Book Description
Youngsters learn to identify 8 common members of the insect world as they color images of a fuzzy caterpillar, spider, ant, bumblebee, grasshopper, butterfly, 2 others.
Customer Reviews:
small but good for kids.......2007-05-09
I bought the insects, frogs, and fish books.
These books were a bit smaller than I expected. They are easy to color and have a guide in them to tell what the picture is and some have color guides. They have easy pictures for kids to color and are beautiful when hung up so the sun can shine through them. My 10 year old godchild had fun coloring them and was proud of the finished product and how it looked in the window.
