CE Marking can be regarded as a product's trade passport for Europe. It is a mandatory European marking for certain product groups to indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set out in the European Directive.

The prime aim of the CE Directive is to ensure that "all industrial products that are placed on the market do not compromise the safety and health of users when properly installed, maintained and used in accordance with their intended purpose. Users and third parties should be provided with a high level of protection and the devices should attain the performance levels claimed by the manufacturer."

This book explains the meaning of CE Marking, its history, how the Directive can affect all manufacturers of industrial products, its current status, its associated quality management requirements, and how manufacturers can easily and cost-effectively meet the requirements for CE Conformance.

Essential information for any manufacturer or distributor wishing to trade in the European Union.

European Business and Marketing is published at the beginning of the new millennium and incorporates much modern thinking in Europe. It includes material on the Euro and the enlargement of the European Union (EU) and the development of global companies with a European base. The text has been researched and written especially for students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses, who need to understand modern European marketing, the EU and the distinct features that are emerging in the world's largest marketplace.

The text includes chapters on marketing strategy in Europe and business culture. It also covers such issues as the expansion of the Union, the development of the Euro as a single currency, economic and monetary policy. The text looks at Europe holistically and builds on modern theoretical concepts to look at the present state of business in European and future trends.

Through seven core chapters the reader is introduced to the issues that are emerging within the EU and its relations to the wider Europe and the rest of the world. The book introduces the following significant themes:

          1. The importance of small to medium sized businesses, regionalism and networks within Europe.
          2. The history and origins of the development of the EU, how it operates and is likely to develop.
          3. The EU and its business and political relationship with the rest of the world - the EU is the major negotiator with the US in the World Trade Organisation talks and brokers trade across the world.
          4. Marketing and how it is being developed across Europe.
          5. The continued growth of joint ventures, strategic alliances and acquisitions in European business.
          6. The distinct features of European business culture, both locally and across borders.
          7. How business is internally evolving within the European Union.

These seven themes are backed up by integrated case studies for European Business and Marketing, providing an opportunity for analysis and discussion of the changes happening and the unique features of the European business market. The case studies include material from the industrial and service sectors and cover both joint venture, multinational, state controlled and small to medium sized companies. Thus the book looks at a number of types of companies and investigates the strategic, organizational, marketing and operational features that they adopt in meeting the needs and challenges of operating in the world's most developed trading block.

          Readership:

Those taking undergraduate and MBA or equivalent courses in marketing, international marketing, European//international business, business studies and strategic management. 5 out of 5 stars Very good book.......2006-10-03

Excellent book. Well organized, and well written. Lots of pointers to other resources as well. Some web links are broken.

3 out of 5 stars A good book to understand what everybody else is doing.......2006-10-01

Well, where do I start? This book is useful to understand what every small time operator is doing in this business. You don't want to follow the crowd so I suggest you purchase this book and John Weiley Spiers Book "How Small Business Trades Worldwide". If you follow the techniques outlined by Weiss you're wasting your time, taking on too much risk, and making very little profits. I'm not saying you can't do it, for example, using trade bulletins to find buyers but so is everybody else! This is not an easy business if you do it this way. No real mention of the internet is made to make it useful nor does he focus too much on the marketing aspects which is the most important. Again, there are ways, and very few of them, to make some big profits. In a strange way, I am recommending this book so you understand what everybody else is doing to get into this business, and hopefully you don't follow. If someone is starting off in their own business, I highly recommend you start out as a Manufacturers representative and branch out as an importer/exporter as part of the overall business. [...]

            3 out of 5 stars Baby steps.......2006-04-11

This book is fine for the very early entrepreneur. There is an entire chapter on choosing between forms of organization, buying office supplies and creating a logo. It's a good birds-eye-view of the import/export process, however, if you are a professional seeking insights and business solutions, you will not find many new ideas here.

4 out of 5 stars Great Technical manual on how to do Import/Export.......2005-07-26

Found this one to be well done, but a little more technical than I prefer. This book does include just about every bit of info you will need, from forms to products to making the right overseas and domestic connections. Also look at Import/Export: How to Get Started in International Trade.

            4 out of 5 stars A great primer...and that's about it: a primer.......2005-06-16

This book is a good way to start learning about international trade. The information you read in this book will help you throughout your venture. Keep in mind, however, that this book is only a beginer's book. You will need to aquire a lot more knowledge before you will be ready to dive into the international trade pool.

5 out of 5 stars A must in Marketing Research.......2007-01-28

This book is a must. Prof. Malhotra (University of Georgia, USA) and the other authors of this book know what they are talking about. This book is full of current and recent examples and cases taken from real life that illustrate main concepts. It is written in an easy-to-read style. The main concepts are summarized to the left of the corresponding paragraph. Do not miss the companion website, which provides you with an electronic summary of the chapters as well as the opportunity to take multiple choice exams. I think that there are also videos with the cases presented in the book, but I have not tried them so far. Believe me, this book is really EXCELLENT. If you work or intend to work in Marketing Research, YOU HAVE TO read this book, at least once.

4 out of 5 stars Only consumer market research, no medical or industrial.......2001-01-19

Good overview book for consumer market research, but weak in the areas of industrial and medical/pharmaceutical market research, where tactics and objectives are much different.

Coverage of traditional methods is sound and thorough, and the internet market research techniques tend to stick to the conversions from traditional methods. Viral marketing and monitoring are over-looked, probably because few people call such activities market research. Overall, the book is generally well-written.

Two criticisms: With time and budget such a large part of the entire market research field, the book has few numbers in that regard, making it seem less practical than it actually is. Second, the examples start at clearly defined objectives. While it discusses the importance of clear objectives, it conveys it in an academic and simplified manner, not addressing the analytics of turning a vague forecast or planning need into a clear study objective.

As a general market research and survey reference, we at Documus give it good marks.

5 out of 5 stars A thorough and methodical work on Marketing Research.......2000-01-09

The book is extensive. It will serve as a valuable reference for business people who do not specialize in research; but it is a must read for Marketing People.

Following the book you will be able to create and execute a complete marketing research program. I have used this book in a number of projects and the results were pleasing.

Do not read this book unless you intend to use it. It is a difficult book for people who have average business knowledge.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent textbook for MBA's........1999-04-15

The book has very methodically explained the various aspects of MR. Problem methodology and questionnaire design has been dealt with exhaustively. Data analysis is also very good.

                  2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2003-10-01

I expected much more information and details about gold investment. The basic idea that author annoyingly repeats throughout whole book is the gold is good for investing and all other kind of investment are bad

                  4 out of 5 stars good read.......2002-12-01

This book was a fun, easy read. The author gives you a basic history about gold, the changing political and monetary climate concerning it, how gold was viewed before by people and governments around the world as compared to now, why you should view gold not just as an investment but, more importantly, as a kind of insurance policy. I've read it twice now, and more of it sank in the second time around so that it makes more sense to me now.

"Regardless of the dollar price involved, one ounce of gold would purchase a quality man's suit at the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt, and today."
