I can't say anything more about this book. The author's presentation skills and overall arrangements are marvelous. It's not only informative to read it, but extremely fun! Though my firm specializes in securities, internal control, and compliance areas, I still regularly raise those issues highlighted in this book to my colleagues over email or during conference. We all benefit from it a lot.

        Book Description

Compliance requirements are here to stay.

Prepare your company for the growing challenge.

A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.

This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.

"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
        —Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.

"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance

"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps

            Book Description

Ethical Obligations and Decision-Making in Accounting gives students a robust ethical framework that is crucial for accountants in the post-Enron era. Incorporating the principles of the AICPA code and other systems of ethics, Mintz and Morris show accounting students how a commitment to ethics can enable accounting professionals to meet their ethical obligations both to investors and creditors. No other book so comprehensively examines the elements of the financial reporting system - including the ethics of the internal control environment and the effectiveness of board of director and audit committee oversight - that determine the ethical standard of the accounting process.

            Book Description

Unlike other available auditing case books, this volume focuses on the development of higher-order skills—such as critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal relations—and provides learners with hands-on exposure to realistic cases involving all aspects of an audit process. The book offers a collection of 36 auditing cases that address most major activities performed during the conduct of an audit—from client acceptance to issuance of an audit report. Cases involving actual frauds and real companies peak readers' interest and motivation for auditing and helps them develop an awareness of fraud reality. Cases involving the performance of audit procedures and examination of audit evidence give readers the opportunity to obtain “hands-on” experience with tasks performed by auditors—deepening their understanding of auditing. Cases involving information technology, assurance services, and other value-added opportunities expose readers to the changing environment of auditing and the new opportunities available. For accounting professionals thinking about taking the CPA exam, clients hiring accounting firms to conduct an internal audit, and new hires in the field of accounting.

              Book Description

This casebook is intended as a supplement to any primary auditing text, as it helps extend and focus classroom discussions on the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley. It grabs student interest by providing engaging, real- world examples of the auditing environment pre- and post-Sarbanes-Oxley.
The text presents a total of 35 “ripped from the headlines” cases organized within four sections:
              1) Ethics and Professional Responsibility (7 cases),
              2) Understanding the Client’s Business and Industry (7 cases),
              3) Internal Control Systems (10 cases),
              4) Audits of Accounts, Processes and Assertions (11 Cases).
This organization closely follows that of most current auditing textbooks, making the cases easy to implement.
In addition to these cases, Appendix A presents seven lengthier, complete company cases giving instructors the flexibility to assign a single case to cover several learning objectives. Appendix B presents financial statements for four of the companies covered in Appendix A.

                  Book Description

This is a key textbook for specialist readers of accounting and finance, either undergraduate or professional, taking a first course in auditing. In this third edition the authors continue to provide a refreshing, imaginative and thorough introduction to the audit process, with a rational and coherent foundation for the appreciation of auditing practice. The text is entirely brought up to date with changes post-Enron, with new auditing standards including IAS, and with changes in UK company law. With the aid of numerous examples, case studies and questions, The Audit Process: Principles, Practice and Cases provides a realistic and thought-provoking insight into the individual components of the auditing process in the context of the entire audit. A major strength of the book is its questioning approach, designed to encourage the student to interact with the material.

2 out of 5 stars The book lacks any system.......2000-10-19

Most importantly, the book lacks any system and after reading it you do not really get the big picture and systematic view of hte auditing process. Many chapters are long winded: it takes the authors long time to say something. The cases are not as many and do not give very good examples of the auditing process as I was expecting before buying the book.

5 out of 5 stars The Best book for learning auditing.......2000-05-15

First, the book begins with a case of small business (Andrew and James, two friends, are going in a busines of selling of a bunkrupt stock; James stays out of active business due to a accidental broken leg till the end of the 6 month period where this the time for sharing the profit of this joint-venture.) which is the clearest one telling the very concept of the subject (auditing in this case). And also the presantion is very good, case studies, activities are very good and subject is clearly explained around those. The small notes at side of each page are also very informative and they accelarate the reading and understanding of the subject. The questions and answers at the second part of the book (actually 30 pages at the end of the book of total 650 or so pages of the book)is very helpful. And each chapter contains at the end a useful list of reading materials as referance and further reading. If you want to learn auditing process both in theory and practice this the book where you should look at first.

                  Book Description

This text provides real-life examples of ethical dilemmas, poor ethical choices, and wise ethical decisions from newspapers, business journals and the author's experiences as a consultant and board member. This text not only assists in fulfilling the AACSB's curriculum requirement but exposes students to a critical issue---the strong sense of values that is essential to principled and successful leadership in the business world. The cases also apply theory to reality in order to nurture or reinforce a needed sense of values in future business leaders.

3 out of 5 stars Decent, but rather uneven coverage for an intro text........2005-06-23

One benefit of this book is that it contains articles, commentary, and discussion questions all in one text. It also covers a wide variety of issues, which is good since business ethics is a vast subject. On the negative side, I don't think the organization of the sections is the most effective way to approach the topic. The sections are organized based on a 1991 survey of CEOs in which the participants ranked their most important types of ethical dilemmas. As a result, there isn't the logical flow or progression of ideas from chapter to chapter that one might expect from a philosophy book. Unfortunately, the pragmatic interests of CEOs are not the same as the educational needs of students who are new to business ethics. There is also no discussion of ethical theories and no direct interaction between the articles. On the whole, this book may be beneficial if used in conjunction with a survey of ethical theories and ethical decision-making, but taken by itself it makes for a rather uneven introduction to business ethics.
