Book Description
During the historic bull market of the last decade, a series of powerful tremor rocked the financial world: global economic crises; the Internet explosion and day trading craze; the 401k boom. Perhaps the most seismic shift of all was the "democratization" of the stock market, as middle class investors joined the party and the Democrats followed suit, effectively ending a century-old tradition in which Republicans, never Democrats, were the party most solidly aligned with Wall Street. These developments have defined the last decade and will help set the political agenda for the next. We are entering an era when the personal finance is the political.
In Bull Run, journalist Daniel Gross outlines these important changes and explores their implications for our country, our pocketbooks, and our two major parties. His fresh take on Wall Street, his provocative opinions on the new relationship between politics and finance, and a wealth of enlightening stories and examples make this book is a must for Wall Streeters, business leaders, and anyone who wants to understand what's happening in the market-and what might happen next.
Customer Reviews:
Informative, invaluable reading for do-it-yourself investors.......2000-08-06
There have been major shifts and changes in the American financial world over the past two decades driven by the aging baby boom generation, the Internet and computerized day trading, global economic crises, and the "democratization" of the stock and markets. In Bull Run: Wall Street, The Democrats, And The New Politics Of Personal Finance, Daniel Gross examines how the changes in attitudes and policies of the Democratic party under the influence of the Clinton administration has led to an unprecedented period of sustained stability and growth in the American financial community, the rapidly increasing percentage of Americans owning stocks and mutual funds, with the result that today a majority of citizens have a personal stake in public equity and debt markets. Gross offers provocative opinions backed with true-life stories illustrating the new relationship and interdependence of politics and finance, Wall Street, Main Street, and Washington. Bull Run is highly recommended, informative reading for do-it-yourself investors seeking to understand American financial markets -- and what the on-coming decade might bring.
A Feast of a Book.......2000-06-17
No Bull. Anyone with even a passing interest in national politics will find this book invaluable. The author, clearly a Jack of many trades, brings a wealth of evidence to show a shift in the political landscape that may well affect the outcome of the next election and certainly clarifies positions taken by each party. The stories, facts and humor made it eminently readable.
informative and amusing.......2000-04-15
This book was a quick read and explained in an entertaining manner with wit and stories about the public policy issues and players in today's economy. There was a laugh a paragraph and it was a quick read. I enjoyed the characterization of his parents as academics who accrued wealth through TIAA-CREF.

very clear and thorough.......2007-01-11
It was very clear and thorough. It is pretty good for the CLEP, but you will need Principles of Accounting 1 too.
Finaly I got it........2006-11-30
Wow! It's realy simple and awesome book for who is looking for accounting knowledge.
Schaum's Outline of Principles of Accounting I (Shcaum's).......2006-03-10
Presented in manner to make it easy to understand and practice. I became an "accountant" within the period I took to go through the entire book-one month! Now I do my own accounts using the principles I leant and a Peachtree accounting software.
I will be purchasing Schaum's other books.
Want to Learn Accounting? Buy this Book!.......2005-05-05
I admit it. I used to be intimidated with accounting. Its concepts were somewhat of a mystery. Debits and credits, journals and ledgers, balance sheets and income statements, adjusting entries, etc. You get the picture.
A year and a half ago, I bought this book. I now enjoy accounting because the authors were so successful and effective in teaching its precepts. Lerner and Cashin have turned muddy water into a clear pool. Why weren't my college professors so effective?
I read this book from cover to cover. I'm hoping that others will benefit as much as I have from this book. Chapters cover: accounting concepts, financial statements, transactional classification, adjusting and closing procedures, business and merchandising worksheets, methods of valuing inventory, receivables, cash and its control, payroll, and also property plant and equipment
The magic of this book revolves around lucid explanations and practical examples. The authors teach the principles, provide numerous examples and then afford the reader the opportunity to apply the lessons material. The book takes you step by step and builds upon the fundamentals.
If you take the time to do the chapter end problems, you should benefit greatly from this introduction to accounting.
Truly, I think the book is a wonderful resource and guide.

Book Description
Compliance requirements are here to stay.
Prepare your company for the growing challenge.
A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.
This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.
"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
—Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.
"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance
"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps
Customer Reviews:
Reference only.......2007-07-04
Useful as a reference guide, but not something that I would recommend as the first or last read on Compliance. Have kept it around as a great reference document.
very useful book.......2007-03-13
i have just read some chapter such as Sarbanes-Oxley and fast scan the other. I think it is the book which i look for.
Outstanding.......2007-01-24
Prior to reading this book I knew almost nothing about compliance. The book is well written and easy to understand for anyone that has formal accounting education. The book provided a tremendous amount of insight, and was very practical. The book has helped out at work tremendously.
Most Helpful for My Accounting and Auditing Groups.......2006-04-29
As the CFO of a privately held company looking to go public in the next few years this is what we needed to focus our compliance and governance programs.
Essential Reading for My US and Chinese Businesses.......2006-04-29
Dr. Tarantino's book was exactly what I needed to understand the many regulations facing my businesses in the US and China. It will be required reading for my various managers and directors.

Customer Reviews:
Order delays.......2006-02-25
The book never showed up. I needed to order it 2nd time and cancel 1st order. It took me almost a month before I got it.
An excellent book for starters!!! Great job....Gallagher.......2001-08-30
This is an excellent book for those who want to delve into finance. It is equivalent to 2nd year material. Finance, most often offered in 3rd year here in Canada, requires knowledge of statistics (i.e. stats, econometrics...etc Intermediate level; 2nd year) when reviewing certain budgeting options; you won't need this for the book. Don't be dismaid, your not missing key information by using this 2nd year stuff (you get all of the math too at an easier to comprehend level).
The disk included with mine helps to build your financial knowledge through a website connection and with practice, but this is not mandatory and is designed for the hardcore finance junkies like myself.
It is only a 4-star because I want more challenging material, but being a 2nd year course I have to wait until 3rd year.

Book Description
This is a key textbook for specialist readers of accounting and finance, either undergraduate or professional, taking a first course in auditing. In this third edition the authors continue to provide a refreshing, imaginative and thorough introduction to the audit process, with a rational and coherent foundation for the appreciation of auditing practice. The text is entirely brought up to date with changes post-Enron, with new auditing standards including IAS, and with changes in UK company law. With the aid of numerous examples, case studies and questions, The Audit Process: Principles, Practice and Cases provides a realistic and thought-provoking insight into the individual components of the auditing process in the context of the entire audit. A major strength of the book is its questioning approach, designed to encourage the student to interact with the material.
Customer Reviews:
The book lacks any system.......2000-10-19
Most importantly, the book lacks any system and after reading it you do not really get the big picture and systematic view of hte auditing process. Many chapters are long winded: it takes the authors long time to say something. The cases are not as many and do not give very good examples of the auditing process as I was expecting before buying the book.
The Best book for learning auditing.......2000-05-15
First, the book begins with a case of small business (Andrew and James, two friends, are going in a busines of selling of a bunkrupt stock; James stays out of active business due to a accidental broken leg till the end of the 6 month period where this the time for sharing the profit of this joint-venture.) which is the clearest one telling the very concept of the subject (auditing in this case). And also the presantion is very good, case studies, activities are very good and subject is clearly explained around those. The small notes at side of each page are also very informative and they accelarate the reading and understanding of the subject. The questions and answers at the second part of the book (actually 30 pages at the end of the book of total 650 or so pages of the book)is very helpful. And each chapter contains at the end a useful list of reading materials as referance and further reading. If you want to learn auditing process both in theory and practice this the book where you should look at first.

Covers all the basics of bookkeeping.......2005-06-10
What are the basics of 'double-entry accounting', and how can it be done? This totally updated 6th edition of a popular study covers all the basics of bookkeeping, from handling petty cash and using spreadsheets to account for VAT taxes, a British tax system. While there are a few principles such as VAT which are UK-specific, plenty of solid and easily-transferred basics will easy cross country lines to appeal to a world-wide audience. Mastering Book-Keeping is highly recommended, especially for those relatively new to the complexities of corporate bookkeeping in multinational companies.
