Babies.......2007-08-27
All of our children loved this book and so did the many other babies who received this as a gift from us. It is timeless!
My Son LOVED This Book!.......2007-07-20
I'd never read this book before it was given to my son as a gift when he was about one. It soon became his favorite book! He loved the pictures of the babies and the simple text that accompanied them. The overall message of the book, I thought, was lovely -- all babies like to be hugged and kissed and cuddled and loved.
Granddaughter loves this book.......2007-07-16
Our 8 month old granddaughter loves Babies. Gyo Fujikawa's Babies was a hit with our 3 children when they were young also. It has such sweet illustrations and a sweet timeless message that all babies should be hugged, cuddled, and loved!
Five stars for the art, but..........2007-07-03
...two stars for the text. I'm not crazy about the use of the words "naughty" and "bad" in reference to babies. I know, I know, I'm one of those touchy-feely attachment parents. My fourteen-month-old does love the book, though!
Forever Babies by Gyo Fujikawa.......2007-05-12
"Babies" is the first book we give to all babies.
We read it to our own children as babies. They
enjoyed it "then" as we did. Now that they are
grown they tell us what a wonderful experience that was
when they first heard "Babies."

Book Description
This is the first volume of the long-awaited new horror manga series from the critically acclaimed creator of Uzumaki. The young couple Tadashi and Kaori are vacationing in Okinawa, but instead of enjoying their time, they bicker endlessly about such insignificant topics as Tadashi's bad breath. The source of the stench, though, may actually be something quite different. When a strange walking fish appears, Tadashi and Kaori know something's amiss. And when a Great White Shark attacks again, walking their mundane complaints quickly pale in comparison.
Customer Reviews:
Great Creepy, Macabre Masterpiece.......2006-05-15
Surely the greatest manga featuring horrible giant walking fish-parasites, powered by decomposing cadaver-gas .. ever written! .. This stands with Uzimaki as one of the weirdest apocalyptic visions ever put down on paper. It's authentically creepy and disgusting and fun. Junji Ito is the HP Lovecraft of Manga, and perhaps the greatest master of his niche so far. Thumbs Up.
Here fishie fishie fishie ... fetch!.......2006-02-12
Tadashi and Kaori are on vacation in Okinawa, staying at Tadashi's uncle's place near the water and using his boat to go scuba diving. Things begin to go wrong when Tadashi encounters a strange shape amongst the sharks he barely escapes from, and Kaori becomes ill from the stench of fish.
Or rather, rotting fish, that are walking up onto land on strange, jointed legs. Neither Kaori or Tadashi have ever seen anything like it, but when Tadashi tries to report the odd fishies, the police don't believe him. Soon they must believe, because its not just the little guys scampering around, sharks are coming up from the deep and attacking.
Tadashi and Kaori flee to Tadashi's uncle's laboratory. Doctor Koyanagi is a freaky-deaky recluse, and offers to dissect one of the fish to discover its secrets of ambulation. In the course of his investigations, Dr. Koyanagi loses his arm to the dead fish.
Meanwhile, Kaori becomes sicker and sicker, eventually bloating up to hideous proportions and sporting nasty pustules. And she's gassy. If you think belching and farting are funny, you're going to love this virus. There's something in the air, and Tadashi and his uncle must discover what it is before Kaori gets any sicker.
'Gyo' is certainly not as good as Ito's 'Uzumaki' series, but it is entertaining and interestingly illustrated. Nicely squishy and repulsive, 'Gyo' is a worthwhile addition to your graphic novel collection. Enjoy!
EDIT: Since reviews posted for 'Gyo' volume 1 also post for 'Gyo 2', I will say that 'Gyo 2' is also a four star book that delves deeper into the mysterious exodus from the sea of the walking dead fish. Kaori is missing, and Tadashi finds her gassy and bloated in the Death Stench Circus. He still tries to save her though his uncle Dr. Koyanagi becomes indisposed from the rapidly spreading virus. Will Tadashi be able to save Kaori?
Also included with 'Gyo 2' are two excellent short stories at the end. 'The Principal Post', very short and sweet, and 'The Enigma Of Amigara Fault', a fantastically twisted tale of mad compulsion and warped flesh. Excellent short!
So if you pick up 'Gyo', make sure to grab 'Gyo 2' along with it. I figure Amazon shows the same reviews for both books because it is pretty much one continuous story. Enjoy!
Good, But Not Perfect.......2006-01-28
Gyo Vol. 2 has some great moments as well as some weak ones. The story continues and builds to a head, but in the process there were a couple of chapters that seemed out of place and pointless (the circus chapters). The whole story line for Gyo is excellent though in the "what the heck is the author smoking?" Which is the reason I love Junji Ito's stuff. Gyo isn't quite as powerful as Uzumaki in my opinion, but also quite good.
The first of the two short stories also included sucks. Completely forgettable. The second though, is a master piece in my opinion. Probably the best part of the book, and that's not to knock Gyo at all either. The one thing about the last short story is I feel the last page is unnecessary...
I stand corrected- A worthy follow up to UZIMAKI-5 STARS!!!.......2005-01-06
I was dissapointed- after the trippy epic nightmare of UZIMAKI I was expecting brilliance from Ito's latest- but (I've only read volume 1) this one is basically a standard monster movie plot, somewhere between Godzilla and Hitchcocks "The Birds" or Night of the Living Dead. Great art and storytelling of course, but I hope this is just filler before his next real horror masterpiece. I may still read the 2nd volume though, it sounds like it's more of an anthology.
I BOUGHT the 2nd Volume!
Hi- I posted about the first GYO being a dissapointing successor to the brilliant nightmare, UZIMAKI.
I should have trusted the brilliant Junji Ito,for in this second installment the story becomes more supernatural, phantasmagoric, enigmatic and surreal- It is truly Lovecraftian, with a romantic center- Astonishing!
Also, the two back-up stories are outstanding, enigmatic, beautiful, horrifying.
I can't wait to see what Ito-san comes up with next. If you love horror comics, you must own Gyo 1 and 2, Uzimaki 1-3, and Flesh Colored Horror. Great art, great storys- The new master.
Half as good as Vol 1. And twice as good as everybody else........2004-08-18
Junji Ito is such a gifted creator that even when he disappoints, the work can still make you gasp, tremble, shudder, and brood.
Take the world of Gyo Vol 2, where germs and worse are loose. Bloated, boil-covered human carcasses scuttle across a ruined Tokyo on the back of spider-like gurneys, their endlessly gassy bodies powering these machines via tubes shoved down (and up!) their orifices. Empty vessels seek out new "batteries," as one character calls them, snapping shut on them like Venus flytraps. This is one of the most savage visions of dehumanization anywhere in comics, and later scenes in Gyo pile on apocalyptic dread.
Although astonishing images pop up regularly, the story feels somewhat padded. Unusual for Ito, he meanders through a lackluster set-piece or two. I was more disappointed, though, by the intrusion of campy supernaturalism that edged out the intriguing backstory from Vol 1. The plot usually recovers. But Gyo isn't in the same class as the near-perfect Uzumaki.
That said, who is doing work in manga or comics to rival this? Ito is one of the most compelling horror storytellers alive. His stories feel of this moment in the 21st century, grounded in our time and refreshingly freed from the banal subjects and tired conventions that make much current Western work (for the page or the screen) so clunky and predictable. The Lovecraft influence is there, deeply and beautifully, yet it is a trace element in something new--a fresh alchemy of the terrible and disturbing.
The high point in this volume, by the way, isn't Gyo. It's the short story, "The Enigma of the Amigara Fault," a 30-page claustrophobic masterpiece which shows the master at his best: his horror sweeps over you like nausea, and forces you to turn the page just to breathe.

A Little Dated But Well Worth Hunting Down.......2007-02-08
Opening one of Gyo Fujikawa's books is like taking a step, or ten, back in time - back to when I was cozily snuggled up with a parent listening, rather than being the parent reading. They are the comfort food of children's books for me. And, on top of it, my daughter absolutely loves this book.
My favorite new baby gift.......2002-09-27
This is a beautifully illustrated tender story for snuggling at storytime with your little one.
Baby Animals.......2002-09-03
When my son was five months old, I learned I was expecting another baby. My nurse-practitioner recommended this book as a first reading experience for my son and as an introduction to having a baby sibling. We read the book almost daily until his sister was born. It was a marvelous experience for all three of us. I am getting two copies for my first and second grandchildren, who will be six weeks apart in age! What a lovely thing to pass down the generations.
no strange text in this one.......2001-08-03
If you have read some of Gyo Fujikawa's other books, like "Oh, What a Busy Day", then you know they can have some strange stories. Why include the one about the two kids who go out into the woods and die? Still, this book is great. The drawings all have a very relaxed soft feeling and the underlying lesson is to be gentle with animals. This is a good book to share with your child at bedtime, while he/she is cuddled in your lap. The last page is a special treat, lots of baby animals. My daughter loves play a version of "I Spy" when we get to that page, pointing out the owl or monkey or other baby animals as I call out their names.
You've got to see these baby mice!.......2001-04-11
I love this book. The copy I have belongs to my 14 year old. Now I am reading it to my 16 month old. Every time she hands it to me I can't help but smile. The illustrations are the best I have ever seen in a children's book. The baby mice melt my heart every time!

Wonderful Memories.......2007-05-16
I used to own this book as a child and my sister and I would fight over who got to look at it next. The illustrations draw you into the story and the words flow so easily for a child to understand. This should be on every child's shelf...a definite classic!
Wonderful for any age.......1998-12-11
I loved the book. My copy was stolen from me and I would love to find another one in great condition for my children. I grew up looking at the pictures and reading over and over again my absolute favorite poems in the book.
A memorable book for me............1998-04-25
This was my favorite book as a child- in fact, it was how I learned to read- by following the words my mom read to me. Now I would love to find it for my daughter

It's a fun book! My oldest daughter loved this book. I am ordering a second copy for my 8 month old. Full of children in various scenerios and fun pictures.
Customer Reviews:
Such a beautiful book!.......2007-01-15
This was a favorite when I was a child- my 3 year old discovered it at Grandmas and although it is a pretty long book, she is totally mesmerized when we read it. I would love to buy a copy of this book- I will when I find it! The illustrations are just totally lovely and you just feel happy looking at the children. The story is all over but it really is just like a child's day.
My favorite book growing up!.......2006-10-10
This is such a great book for imagination. My younger sister and I would read this over and over and over again and then read it again! I now read it to my son and he loves it. He's 3 yrs old and loves to make believe as I read it to him. I highly recommend this book!
Wonderful memories - please print again!.......2005-12-20
What a lovely, mesmerizing book! Not only did I share some warm moments with my father while he read this aloud, but it kept me busy just staring at the pages. The illustrations are wonderful. The story is classic: old-fashioned yet captures the hearts and imaginations of children today. Please reprint this book! I have a copy that I've been sharing with my own children, but I'd like to have another just for myself and my memories.
I remember staring at the pictures for hours............2005-11-14
This is probably my favorite children's book of all time, whenever I find a hardcover I buy it for a gift. The pictures have something for everyone to relate to, boys, girls, and many cultures. They are intricate and involved. You can literally get lost in them, not at all like the lame plastic mass-produced books with crappy illustrations they sell today.
Some of my best memories as a child!!!.......2005-10-02
I am now 33 years old and I LOVED this book sooooo much!!!
My parents bought it for me and now I would like to get it for my kids.
There is so much to read and see in this book. All children should have this book.

Gyo Fujikawa is the best childrens book illustrationist. For 90 Years!.......2007-03-08
Gyo Fujikawa recently passed away. His children's books have skyrocketed in value. This is because of the length of time he spent on illustrating these books. All of his books are truly pieces of art.
Book Description
The first issue appeared when George Washington was president. Ever since, Americans have turned to The Old Farmer's Almanac for a yearly dollop of homespun wit, tried-and-true advice, amazing trivia, and, of course, remarkably accurate weather predictions.
Editor Judson Hale has revisited two centuries' worth of back issues, and culled the most revealing, remarkable, entertaining, and irreverent articles, advertisements, and essays. The result is an enduring treasury of tips, cures, recipes, and curios -- and a fascinating, nostalgic journey through American folk history.
Here's some of the unpredictable information you'll find in this first-ever Old Farmer's Almanac anthology:
-- The lowdown on how a pig may have provoked the War of 1812.
-- A fail-safe method for hypnotizing a lobster.
Time-tested tips on how to find the perfect mate.
A "sure-fire" remedy for the common cold.
And much more, including the answer to that age-old question Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
-- A report on the first case of artificial insemination by a bullet.
Illustrated with more than three hundred cartoons, photographs, woodcuts, and movie stills, and leavened with intriguing historical sidelights -- including how Abraham Lincoln used the Almanac to free a wrongly accused murderer -- this one-of-a-kind collection is a book you'll dip into again and again whenever you need a lift, a laugh, or a bright idea.

Product Description
"THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC made its first appearance in 1793 and filled a void created by the discontinuance of Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac. It has the rare distinction of being the almanac with the longest, uninterrupted run-and is almost as old as America itself. Will Thorpe has attempted to recreate the spirit and mood of America as it exsisted in early times and which, to an extent, still exsists in many parts of rural New England to this day. He has sifted through all the editions of the Almanac from its inception through World War I, and has culled the most meaningful and interesting articles, editorials, anecdotes, and bits of helpful advice and information which modern Americans-city dwellers as well as farm folk-will find valuable and entertaining."
