4 out of 5 stars Show Me The Money!.......2000-07-21

This is an excellent resource for libraries seeking big bucks for large projects. The indexing and state by state information provides for easy searching for local grant giving organizations. Future publications of this resource may wish to add company information in state by state format instead of alphabetical so one doesn't wind up going back and forth. Though the information is absolutely marvelous the cost is overpriced, especially for libraries seeking funds! Smart librarians should resource share in order to fully reap the benefits without wiping out the budget.

3 out of 5 stars Good resource, but not sure it's worth the cost.......2000-05-19

This guide is chock-a-block full of great info, but it's all to typical of trade books for fundraisers -- if you can afford these overpriced guides, maybe you don't need to be raising money after all. How many libraries have the resources for this?

5 out of 5 stars Sold Our Own Home in 10 Days.......2007-02-11

Followed the tips for preparing our home, setting a price, advertising, and making appointments with prospective buyers. The sign went in the yard on a Wednesday and 10 days later we had a signed purchase/sale agreement. The book is very encouraging and right on the money. A nice home at the right price pretty much sells itself. There's no magic to it, but the process only works if you have the time and sense to apply the steps in the book. If you're too busy, too lazy, or too confused, then get yourself an agent and give them a big chunk of your hard-earned equity.

5 out of 5 stars Best book on selling by owner.......2005-10-11

I noticed that the only negative reviews on this book are from REALTORS. Of course, they haven't read the book they only want to discourage people from selling by owner, saving money and cutting them out of the deal. Realtors think that they are entitled to a commission, they should think again.

It's easy to see who the realtors are here writing 'reviews'.

The people who sell their own homes by following the advice in this book are the right and true reviewers.

I highly recommend this book, and it's unique information to anyone who is thinking of selling their own home...it will save you a fortune in outrageous real estate commissions and save you time and effort!

1 out of 5 stars If you have sold a house or bought one forget this book!.......2004-12-01

I was really looking forward to this read - however greatly unsatisfied when I finished (within an hour). Most of what is inside would be common sense for anyone who has sold or bought a house in the past using a good agent. This is not to say that I like using an agent - I don't and won't. What I do mean is that if you have had past experience with this kind of transaction and had a good agent that walks you through the process than you have already covered much of the content of this book- like home inspections and appraisals and oh ya duh get a good lawyer. Save your money for the lawyer and your ads!

                    1 out of 5 stars Beware.......2004-06-09

Do not believe this book. Hiring a realtor is the BEST way to sell your house. I tried to use this book and lost thousands of dollars and ended up hiring a realtor anyways. The keys to selling a house are advertising and having a way for buyers and their realtors to see your house at all times of the day. This book does NOT provide adequate information on this, and you do need a realtor for the advertising and access to your house for showing.

3 out of 5 stars Be aware of the pitfalls.......2004-03-31

This book is readable and nicely planned out, but it may oversimplify selling by owner. It reads like a Tony Robbins/Up With People/Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney let's-put-on-a-show MGM musical. I wanted an MLS listing to help with advertising but the flat fee listers don't do it in every state. This book makes it sound like there are many advertising avenues available to FSBO listings (without being very specific), but I couldn't find any in my state, and the Internet listings aren't much good in areas where many people don't have computers. (Yes, there are such places even in 2004.) Plus, the FSBO sites I found were connected with flat fee listers, so prospective buyers aren't necessarily going to find them. I had to give up and list with a realtor. If you want the book for general information and/or you live in a state with a hot real estate market, it isn't bad, but don't expect selling to be as easy as the book makes it sound.

5 out of 5 stars Never Pay Commission Again.......2006-12-05

I found this book extremely informative. My house sold in 90 days in a fairly stagnant market. The downloadable forms were perfect. Once completed, I took them to a lawyer and he asked me what exactly I expected him to do since the paperwork was all in order. My costs were 1/10 of what a broker would have charged.

5 out of 5 stars Knowledgeable author, easy style.......2006-03-25

I'm hoping to sell my condo myself next month and bought this book in preparation; I'm about 3/4 of the way through, and am feeling much more comfortable with the idea of selling my house myself, and have a better idea of what to expect - when showing, when negotiating, etc. Definitely a helpful book!

                    5 out of 5 stars Great book!, Add a flat-fee MLS .......2006-03-20

This was HIGHLY INFORMATIVE. It really helped the most! I recommend reading it in it's entirety. If not, you will miss out on much needed tips. However as a FSBO, to really get more online marketing exposure for your home, you need a flat-fee MLS service. With that and this book, I am sure you can be sold soon and without paying an agent a full 6% commission.

4 out of 5 stars Useful for first time FSBO.......2005-09-12

I thought the book was very useful. The only down side is there was no informatioon on using the flat fee service for listing a home. Definitely by a real estate agent as they don't want you to use that method. Did it anyway and it worked fine. The book was good for making sure everything else was in order. Helped reduce the stress of selling for the first time and by doing it without an agent.

                    5 out of 5 stars Great Investment.......2005-08-09

Plenty of information and 'how to' details. Author covers all angels and gives very simple solutions and suggestions. Buy this book before you sign with a realtor!

1 out of 5 stars ZERO stars, or worse.......2003-05-30

WARNING: Lee Burbidge IS a "sleazy salesman", through and through. I worked for him and his sons for a few years, and became very intimately acquainted with their business practices. Lee's son Brae, by the way, interestingly enough also posted a review on this page (see the September 10th entry). I'd be suspect of any review of this "book" posted from their homebase of Utah. The Burbidge's are not interested in providing quality services to the public. They are long-time seminar shysters who will take advantage of anyone unlucky enough to wander into their web.

1 out of 5 stars Apply the cost of this towards a real-estate attorney.......2000-06-16

I can guarantee the people that sold their houses in one day didn't need this "book" to do it. They would have sold regardless. There's very little real information in here. It basically tells you to clean up your house and make it presentable (common sense). Most of the audio talks about writing a newspaper add (just read some of the ones by realtors and mimic their styles). It really lacks the most important information needed by any home seller, marketing. Newspaper ads can work, but it shouldn't be the only technique used. The author doesn't even touch other areas of marketing like flyers, grocery stores, local businesses, the internet, or sending letters to all your neighbors offering a finder's fee. He also assumes everyone sells houses in the summer and fails to talk about what to do in the off peak times.

Most of the photocopied examples you can get from any decent real-estate attorney. Since you'll probably hire one anyway, save your money on this waste of paper.

                    5 out of 5 stars Business Builder.......2000-05-27

I'm a real estate agent who work mostly with Buyer, a Buyer Agent. I use the package to introduce myself to "for seller by owners" because I know that most of them need help in selling their house and that they will become buyers when they do. This "for sale by owner" package has been successful for me as well as the people I give one too. It is a great well done workbook, video and audio tape presentation. It teaches the basics in easy to understand terms. I recommend it to agents who are looking for business builders and to anyone who is trying to sell their own home. It is easy for anyone who is new to the real estate field to understand and use. Buy it and try it. It works for professionals who are providing service added marketing and for the new comer.

                    Don't buy this!

The "book" is a bunch of photocopied papers, many of which are just there as space filler (e.g., a ream of sample appraisal forms -- you already saw these when you bought your house, there's no need to see multiple pages of the appraisal form for another propert).

The video is especially bad; it just drips sleaze. It conveys the image of the sleazy salesman remininscent of the cheap promotional videos that you'll occasionally catch on the TV.

I bought the kit and followed the instruction. With some luck, I sold my house in one day open house. The kit is still brand new. I am going sell it in the auction site. Thanks to the author. It is my first time selling house by my own and I know nothing about the selling before I got this kit. It is a wonderful experiences.

Selling a home For Sale By Owner (FSBO) is a tactic that's growing in popularity; according to the United States Department of Commerce, about 30% of all real estate transactions are conducted without a realtor each year. Still, going the FSBO route can be scary, especially when you consider that 80% of FSBOs list with a realtor when they can't sell on their own.

Authors Karen Varnas and Roy Wysack believe that FSBO is a great option, provided you do your homework. Knowing that the Internet is full of resources for FSBO, they have compiled the best information in an easy-to-use CD-ROM. You'll find a host of information here in a well-organized, easily accessible format.

The CD-ROM opens with a full table of contents that is hyperlinked to the main sections of text, each of which is color-coded for ease of navigation. At the beginning of each section is a more complete breakdown of the material covered there. All content lists are anchored by hyperlinks to allow you to jump down to the relevant text.

Navigable arrows throughout the text allow you to return to the table of contents, jump to the next section, or return to the beginning of current section. Hyperlinks are embedded throughout to take you to related information located elsewhere on the CD-ROM. Each section ends with a list of hyperlinked Internet resources.

The authors provide a thorough grounding in FSBO, including a realistic explanation of the work involved. The "Fast-Track to FSBO" is a hyperlinked list of the steps involved; the reader can get a fairly good idea of the FSBO process within about 30 minutes of exploring the CD-ROM.

The authors offer suggestions for hiring an attorney, title company, and appraiser (all essential parts of the FSBO team), as well as giving advice for marketing your property. Other topics include pricing the home correctly, getting your home ready to sell, showing your home, legal issues, and financial and tax-related issues. Information is thoroughly researched and written in a friendly, frank style. Beautiful full color photos are scattered throughout to provide contrast to some of the technical subjects and make your research more enjoyable.

At the time of this review, the FSBO-CD® worked solely within a Windows environment - Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 browser or higher. Although loading may take a while due to the size of the file, it opened easily and navigation is relatively quick. Mac users may have to skip this CD-ROM, as it is not compatible with MAC computers or web browsers, such as Firefox.

In short, the FSBO-CD® takes a potentially confusing subject and delivers it in an easy-to-understand, easy-to-use format. Summary checklists, extensive appendices, and a well-researched list of links throughout the Web make this CD a great guide. Highly recommended to those going the FSBO route.

1 out of 5 stars Keep Your Money.......2002-03-09

This book is, in my opinion, worthless. Save the price and spend it on open house fliers and snacks. I am constantly amazed at the volumes of non-substansive books. They are sold to many, yet teach nothing more than general common sense items. I have found more effective methods watching used car commercials on tv. Many items are greatly misleading also. I have taught people to sell by owner for years and offer free on line seminars that put this book to total shame.

1 out of 5 stars Leaves A Bit To Be Desired.......2002-02-12

The author gives some good information, but she lightly touches over topics leaving the reader with a lot of questions. The book is rather pricey with not a lot of content. I found several typos that should not have been missed before printing. For the price of this book, I think that it would be wise to look at other "For Sale By Owner" books.
