Book Description
Action, romance, and historical intrigue help make Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin, the tale of a wandering swordsman set against the backdrop of the Meiji Restoration, one of the most popular Shonen Jump titles among fans to date. Himura Kenshin, once an assassin (or hitokiri) of ferocious power, now fights to protect the honor of those in need.
Customer Reviews:
Kenshin's truth.......2006-12-14
What is the truth for Kenshin? He has spent 15 years searching for it, but has never laid eyes on it. Is it some unattainable ideal, or has it been with him all along?
Kenshin lies broken in Rakuninmura with only a mysterious old man for a companion. The others have repeatedly tried and failed to get him to stand up and leave. Can a tearful Tsubame reach him in time to save Yahiko from a maniac heading into Tokyo? Can he find his truth?
Quite possibly my favorite volume yet..........2006-05-22
After nothing but fight scene after fight scene, volume 25 was quite refreshing. The giant one-armed Kujiranami has escaped his prison and begin rampaging through the town. With Kenshin still in the "Fallen Village" and Saitou and Aoshi away, it is up to Yahiko to prevent Kujiranami from reaching his destination.
It was great to see how Yahiko has truly developed as a swordsman. Watsuki could have easily continued using Yahiko has the weak link and occasional comedic relief. I've never loved Yahiko as a character as much as I did in this volume.
Geezer proves to be an even more important character than orginally implied, as he attempts to get Kenshin out of his coma like state. When he finally does (Did I spoil the story for anyone? I apologize, but really, was there ever any doubt?), Kenshin's return was done so well, that I was practically smiling form ear to ear. This volume does get over-idealistic at times, but that's not new to the series.
Overall, a great volume. True, it is made up mostly of another long fight scene, but what a great scene it was!
"Yahiko Myojin:Tokyo Shizoku".......2006-03-26
With the Gein dead,Keshin still souless, and Saito & Aoshi on a mission,it's now Yahiko's turn to take center stage in Volume 25 of Rurouni Kenshin...
Still seeking revenge againest the Battousai for chopping off his arm and refusing to grant him an honorable death,Hyogo escapes Jail and goes on a rampage searching for Keshin. The only ones withen the area are low level officers and Yahiko, who once again proves he's going to be Keshin's future equal by taking command of the officers and charging Hyogo(now armed with a Auto-Grenade Launcher, head on.
However,Yahiko's skill and advanced training still can't close the gap between him and "Whale Mouth's" sheer power, leaving Tsubame-Chan to seek Kenshin's help.Kenshin,as he was for most of the last Volume,is awaiting death in The Fallen Village. After some kind words from "The Geezer",Kenshin comes to the "Truth" which reawakens him and his Sakabato.
This was another great Yahiko heavy estaliment which really showed how far he's come since joining the "Kenshin-Gumi".He's gotten stronger,is more focused and willing to protect others justlike Kenshin. The only minor grumbles were the true identidy of "The Geezer"(Come on,what are the odds!?) and brief appearences by the supporting/remaining cast(well, this WAS Yahiko's fight). But if you've been reading Kenshin up until this point, those are actually forgivable.
Highly Recommanded

Book Description
Even little kids can help make these Christmas cookies! Following the same format as PSS's wildly successful Trim the Tree for Christmas, this big, chunky book gives kids the opportunity to select their favorite frosted, sugary cookies and fit them into the appropriate slots on each of the five empty baking sheets throughout the story. Whether it's powdered sugar snowflakes, rainbow-colored angels, glittery stars and bells, or an entire cookie family, with over thirty delicious-looking ornaments to choose from, everyone will have a favorite. Mouthwatering illustrations by Ronnie Rooney and a lip-smacking rhyming text by William Boniface make this a book that kids are sure to love playing with as much as they enjoy eating the real thing!
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book to Keep The Children Busy At Christmastime.......2002-02-17
"Christmastime Is Cookie Time", by William Boniface, Illustrated by Ronnie Rooney.,
Price, Stern, Sloan, 2001.
This is a wonderful little book to keep the attention of the young ones while they are waiting for Santa and you are making Christmas cookies. William Boniface has again written lively verse, describing the annual family holiday task of making batches of sugar cookies to enjoy while celebrating Christmas. Ronnie Rooney has provided beautiful and bright "cookies", which the children can place into the correct slots of the board by each page.
I bought this book for my grandchildren and watched as my daughter, their mother, made the sugar cookies. Some cookies were a little too well done, and they were used for my tea, but the others, when cooled, were frosted by many willing hands. The book's cookies were miniatures of the baked cookies. The book illustrator has based the cardboard cookies on the design of cookie cutters that have been in use for more than 30 years, perhaps 50 years. Therefore, the children use the book's cardboard cookies the same as, or at least very similar, to the cookies being baked in the oven. The Christmas colors used by the illustrator are bright enough to match the verse by William Boniface,
"Since no two snowflakes are the same,
We've made ours all unique,"
"And sprinkled them with powdered sugar.
Come and take a peek".
Take a peek at that page and see the powdered sugar suspended in mid-air by the artist: it is truly being sprinkled on the cookies! From personal experience, this Grandfather would recommend this book with five stars.

Countless books detail holiday projects for the dedicated crafter, but here's a title that encourages the whole family to get involved in Christmastime baking and decorating. Helpful tips on cooking and crafting with kids make it easy to get started, and many of the craft projects require only minimal adult supervision. Whip up a whole host of ornaments, garlands, cards, and wrappings using such easy-to-use items as salt dough, aluminum foil, and bright magazine clippings. Delight little Santa's helpers with kid-friendly nibbles like chocolate crispy bears or smiley-face pancakes, and surprise grown-up guests with a Yule log cake or chocolate-peppermint swizzle sticks. Full directions are given for all craft and food items, including enough recipes for a full Christmas dinner. One minor drawback, especially for children: most of the crafts are not pictured, so crafters may have difficulty visualizing the finished product. But there are enough color photos to give a general impression of the projects, making Christmastime Treats fun for everyone. --Amy Handy
Book Description

With Christmastime Treats, families can create new holiday traditions and memories to last for many Christmastimes to come.
Customer Reviews:
reader from New York City.......2000-12-13
I've bought a couple of the other books in this series and I have to say that this one was a total diappointment. The crafts in this book were just so ordinary. I was hoping for some unique crafting ideas but only got some projects that I probably did as a Brownie or Girl Scout. Not worth the money.
Christmastime Treats: by Sara Perry.......1999-12-14
Another winner from Sara Perry! I'm giving this to all my young friends with children, and to the grandparent set as well. The crafts are easy to make, and the recipes are rewarding in every way. Fun to make, fun to eat! Sara's well thought out recipes, and step by step craft instructions set this book apart from the rest.
Help arrived just in the nick of time!.......1999-12-04
This book was so helpful to me as a full time working mother with a 7 year old daughter. The crafts were simple to do, yet looked like we had spent days in the making. What more could a mother want! My daughter loved making the easy decoupage christmas balls almost as much as my in-laws loved receiving them. The candy land house was our schools answer to the dreded gingerbread house (the frame is made from a six pack carboard container) I cheer the author who can put together such a well written & workable book. In closing I am off to the kitchen to whip up one of the fabulous recipes! I would say wish me luck, but I have confidence in the Snow White Bunnies being the perfect answer.

Eloise's Guide to Life: Or, How to Eat, Dress, Travel, Behave, and Stay Six Forever

Amazon.com
Eloise has always had a rather festive air about her, but when Christmastime rolls around, well, it's "Fa la la la fa la la la lolly ting tingledy here and there," of course. The bunchy-bloused, spindly-legged scamp is speaking in rhyme this time, and in typical Eloise fashion, the verse simply can't be perfectly metered, for what would be the point? She rushes around New York's Plaza Hotel on Christmas Eve, jingling, spreading Christmas cheer, tying tassels on the thermostats, and writing "Merry Christmas" on all the walls. And of course there are gifts to be delivered and wrapped:
For Weenie a roastbeef bone deluxe
For Skipperdee raisin milk
I'm giving the valet a beehive of course
made of safety pins and silk
Her asides, printed in red, are as priceless as ever: "Sometimes there is so much to do that/ I get sort of a headache around the sides and partially under it." Or in a rare vulnerable moment, "For when you are a child of six/ it's difficult to know/ if you deserve a present or not/ at Christmastime/ or so." But enough of that. "We sang Noel for 506/ Silent Night for 507/ We didn't sing for 509/ at the request of 511."
Hilary Knight's pen and ink pink-and-black illustrations are perfect--particularly of the "sugar plums" dancing in Eloise's head on Christmas Eve, complete with crazed elves, Nanny-as-angel, reindeer with glasses, and of course Santa's sleigh with one giant package in it... for Eloise. Kay Thompson's Eloise at Christmastime, first published in 1958 with a different cover, joins Eloise in Paris and The Absolutely Essential Eloise (with additional historical scrapbook) as a much welcomed reissue of the original. And there's always just Eloise. (Ages 5 to 105) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
Yes
Here she is at Christmastime
Complete with tinsel and holly
Singing fa la la la lolly
And over the roar of the jingle bells
You can hear hear hear her say
It's absolutely Christmas
But I don't mind a bit
I give everyone a present
For that's the thing of it
So when it's everly Christmastime
And you're under your Christmas trees
Simply tinkle a bell and have a trinkle
And remember
Me
Eloise
Customer Reviews:
Eloise at Christmastime.......2007-01-22
It was one of my favorite books as a child and was one of my daughters favorites, as well. We loved reading it together. It is always tops on my list of books to give a baby girl for Christmas.
Christmas Eloise.......2007-01-10
I was thrilled to see a holiday Eloise book for me to share with my granddaughter. It was truly a holiday treat!
Am awful book for kids, and poorly written too.......2006-12-27
My 4 year old got this book from grandparents, which I observe appears to be the same generation that has written all the glowing reviews of this book. I guess it paints a picture that appeals to another generation, but I really don't get it.
This is the worst book I've ever read my child. I've read her quite a lot, and I am very progressive in my choice of books.
The English in the story doesn't make sense, including incomplete sentences and fragments of ideas. The story is almost stream of consciousness, but not quite. There is also a random attempt to rhyme, but often the rhyming words are several lines apart, after the child would recognize a rhyme had happened.
The plot seems to consist of: Eloise ran around the hotel, opened presents, got the annual call from her an absent parent, and ends with her proclaiming her nanny her best friend:
"Here is who my absolutely best friend
in this whole wide world is
Nanny"
The morals of the story seem to be:
-have fun at the cost of others
-you can leave your child with a nanny during Christmas as long as you phone
-christmas is about presents
-money is everything
Did I mention how long this book is? It's three or four times longer than any children's story has a right to be--and I enjoy reading books to my kids.
This Book Would Make Almost Anyone Happy.......2006-03-26
Celebrate Christmas (no, not "holiday" folks, CHRISTMAS) year-round with New York's favorite poor litle rich girl, Eloise! Inside this book we not only get to re-visit the ball of energy that is Eloise, but we're treated to an always more-insightful-than-it-seems view of life and society, circa 1950, as the Plaza Hotel girds itself top to bottom for that most festive of celebratory occasions. Eloise is in high form here, and so is Nanny. The usual cast of characters is back and it's a rawthur cheerful read that has made me smile since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.
Christmas at the Plaza.......2005-11-19
Now that the Plaza Hotel has closed for renovations and will never be quite the same again, is all the more reason to buy this book about a little girl named Eloise who lived at the Plaza in its glory days.Eloise makes friends of the hotel staff and in spite of her dear nanny who is supposed to be in charge, Eloise manages to have many adventures within the Plaza during the festive Christmas season. The surprise ending is delightful. A book for all ages, but especially nice for someone who grew up in the 1950's.
Book Description

Christmastime in Kansas City traces our celebration from the early 19th century to today, the year's busiest holiday.

Perfectly enhanced with Bill Farnsworth's artwork, Nancy LeSourd's Christy: Christmastime At Cutter Gap is a wonder-filled picturebook based on the classic novel "Christy" by Catherine Marshall. Customer Reviews:
My daughter LOVES the tabs.......2006-04-01
I highly recommend this book for babies who are just beginning to hold and play with books on their own. My daughter was 7 months old when I bought her this book and she absolutely loves to pull up all the tabs. This book is one of her favorites and she'll specifically seek it out and sit and turn the pages and play with all the tabs. Unlike a lot of other books with flaps or moving parts, these can't be easily torn off and have been sturdy enough to hold up repeated lifting and occasional chewing and drooling. The pictures are well-drawn and the quality of the book is good.
Just FYI, this book avoids the religious aspects of Christmas and focuses on things like decorating, Santa, and activities such as sledding and caroling. That may be a plus for some people and a minus for others!
Spellbound my 3 year old and made her laugh!.......2005-12-01
My daughter LOVES the Little People lift the flap board books. She can sit with each of them for a half hour at a time. They are well-illustrated and they have a lot of little details that she never fails to notice. When I saw this Christmas edition, I knew we had to have it. She loved the pictures of the children playing in the snow (and I especially liked Freddie the Frog and his Snow Frog) and she thought the gingerbread man rug in Santa's house was hilarious! The last page is an advent calendar of sorts---she has to wait 'til tomorrow before she starts to "open" the presents around the tree.
This is a must-have for any fan of the Little People or lift the flap books---it's adorable, fun, and well worth the price!
Tons of Pull Tabs.......2005-11-13
My son is 2.5 and seems to rank this book as his 4th favorite of the Fisher-Price pull-tab books. The book has the most tabs by far but I don't they are as educational as the other 3. Also, it is great that is a Christmas book but it feels a little strange reading him this book in July. However, if you are looking for a great book to teach a young one about Christmas in a fun way, it is great.
Great book for Preschoolers!.......2004-12-02
I purchased this book for my 3 year old daughter and also for my Family Child Care business. The kids LOVE this book! It's a large size book and has over 100 open the flaps in it that kids love to open and close. We read it over and over. I highly recommend this book for children who like the Little People toys.
Customer Reviews:
Neat two sided cookbook!.......2003-07-12
This cook book is so neat because on one side it has regular everyday cookies, you turn it over and it has hoilday cookies. I have never seen another cook book like this before. There aren't many pictures which was kind of dissapointing, but there are cookie recipes from around the world so that make up for the number of pictures. The neatest recipe seems to be Maple leaves where you actually use maple syrup. I haven't made anything yet beacause I just checked this book out, but I can't wait to make the leaves this fall. There are also some neat bar cookie things that in this book also that would be neat to make for hoilday parties. One of the neatest holiday recipes is called Sledding Teddies, and Sledding Bears. The Sledding Teddies are 3-D which is really cute.
