Customer Reviews:
Good books, but weird organization of the volumes.......2007-01-20
While I do like these books, and I have found them to be useful in my and my families learning of kanji, they are organized in a completely non-sensical way. At the back of each book, they proclaim that they are useful in studying for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficieny Test) exams. They are useful.. just not comprehensive.
For example, Volume 1, which has 80 kanji in it to learn, (despite what the paragraph at the back of the book says) is NOT the full list of kanji you would need to learn to pass the first level exam (JLPT4). The JLPT4 test requires 103 kanji at the current time, as well as like 700 vocab words, and basic grammar and listening skills. If you were to just study this book, and nothing else, you would surely fail.
At first I thought maybe the authors had just made an error and meant to say that the books were organized loosely based on the elementary school grade level. However, this is also not true. An example of this is ±(oj"hana") which is a grade level 1 kanji taught to first graders, but is in fact in Volume 2.
The only other glaring problem I've found with these books is the lack of any sort of English definition lookup or table of contents. While you can look the kanji up if you know the spelling in kana, being able to look it up in English would've been really nice. However, the books are cheap and fun and pretty easy to use.
80 more Kanji to memorize, still fun as ever!.......2006-03-23
As with the previous Kanji de manga books, the third volume comes with clever drawings that will help you learn another essential 80 Kanji. The yellow cover is a bit much for me, but other than that, this book is great.
Great for beginners.......2005-11-16
Volume 3 deals with the last half of the Kanji needed in the Japanese Language Placement Test (JLPT) level 3. Each kanji is explained in on and kun yomi format, then stroke order is introduced. Most importantly, it presents each kanji in a short manga (comic) that introduces translations of idioms and frequently-seen-in-manga sound effects. Perfect for both the JLPT taker and those with some Japanese classes under their belt who want to pick up more words in Japanese that aren't in conventional books on the language.
That said there are only about 80 kanji introduced per book, so there are cheaper books out there, but this certainly makes the learning a fun experience.

Her broad statements like "the feminist movement has become hostile to heterosexual relationships in general" and her tendency to react to callers in anger may offend, but if you can put aside her ratings-boosting fits of temper, you'll find some solid advice in 10 Stupid Things Couples Do to Mess Up Their Relationships. While Dr. Laura Schlessinger excels at placing blame, her bluntness can be refreshing, and with chapter titles like "stupid priorities," "stupid egotism," and "stupid liaisons," you know right where she stands on issues like career commitment, perceived selfishness, and extramarital relationships.
Much of the book has been created from letters written by listeners of her show. These personal anecdotes are used to illustrate points and provide examples we can all relate to; given their tremendous variety, you're sure to find some that click with you. They make the book an easily absorbed read and provide a welcome break from Schlessinger's angry tirades on premarital sex, addiction, and the general "stupidity" of the human race. Behind her anger, you'll find suggestions on taking time to really listen to each other, ways to respect each other's needs without catering to selfishness, and a firm belief that relationships are nearly always worth saving. --Jill Lightner

Good advice from Dr. Laura.......2007-09-16
I bought this book for my teen-age granddaughter who is dating age, I also bought one for her boyfriend. I reviewed the book and it had good advice not only for the novice dater, but for those individuals who have been dating for years and wondering what's wrong with their past relationships. Clear and concise advise. Good book.
Dr. Laura on Couples.......2007-05-09
All couples should read this book from well-known talk radio therapist Dr. Laura. The advice is valuable for anyone in a relationship.
Fantastic!!!!! .......2007-03-17
Anything written by Dr. Laura is great. If more people would listen to her, they would live better lives. My live has changed dramatically since listening to her. I've read her other books, so I bought this one just to complete the collection. It has served me well. However, what I've realized is that you can't just listen, you have to DO IT!!!
Dr Laura knows what she's talkin about.......2007-01-19
I bought this for a friend so don't know what it's like but I do know Dr Laura writes a Mean-ing-ful book, with powerful examples to follow. In her not-so-sensitive, don't be a crybaby approach, she does present a good "case" for her advice and suggestions. She's quite arrogant, critical, impatient and cruel in her way of communicating to callers on Talk Radio as well as in her books, but much of what she says makes sense. She definitely favors men and blames women for the bad relationships that are described to her.
Good, not great........2006-11-09
I had never read any of Dr. Schlessinger's books until about a month ago when I read her book "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands". It was a magnificent read and prompted me to pick up this one, 10 STUPID THINGS COUPLES DO TO MESS UP THEIR RELATIONSHIPS. The problem is, I should have read this book first, and here is why; Proper Care was such a masterpiece that I expected as much from this one, and though it is a wonderful dissertation and full of valuable advice, it doesn't come close to being in the same category as Proper Care. Had I read this book first, my expectations would not have been as high and I probably would have rated this one higher.
With this book, you get much of the same valuable perspectives on marriage, but this one is rather discombobulated in its' outlay and at times does not seem to fit the intended structure. There is also considerably more content devoted here to listener comments than from the Doctor herself, making this more of a compilation of letters, emails and interviews and less of a seasoned and highly competent professional lending her expertise on the subject matter.
Couples and individuals alike will certainly garner critical information on selecting the right individual for a mate. However, if you have an expectation of finding marriage building type information here, you might also be disappointed as this is geared more towards how not to mess up a relationship than it is toward building one. As with Proper Care, you will glean bits and pieces of profound information here that will certainly make you think about your relationship and yourself as a part of that relationship.
Overall, this is a good book, well worth reading. My only recommendation is, if you are new to Dr. Laura and seeking to strengthen your marriage, read this book before you read Proper Care. Though Proper Care is focused more on a female audience and this one is for either gender, you will have more an appreciation for this book if you read it first.

This alphabetical compendium of carnal catastrophes is enough to make anyone consider celibacy. Kathryn and Ross Petras, the authors of The 776 Stupidest Things Ever Said, prove that all kinds of things can and will go wrong when people start to think with their reproductive organs.
Hundreds of furious moviegoers trashed a local movie theater in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The movie they had paid to see--Furious Copulation--was not what the title suggested. Instead, it showed a man chasing a chicken. The owner promised to change the title on the marquee to The Pervert's Express.
From the India-South Korea condom conflict, to a woman with a remarkable way of playing the flute, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Some of these stories are not for the squeamish, but they provide a hilarious picture of the lengths to which some people will go for a thrill. Remember kids, don't try any of this at home. --Simon Leake
Book Description
A mother, answering her phone, hears her daughter shrieking and screaming. Terrified, she calls the police who arrive at the daughter's house, batter down the door--and find the daughter, nude, in her bedroom having sex with her boyfriend. Apparently her toe hit the automatic dial button for her mother's number on the bedroom phone.A man, swimming in a Florida pool, sees the pool intake pipe and gets a unique idea. Hours later, after police, firemen, and EMT personnel are called, the man is taken to an area hospital--along with ten feet of pipe attached to a very swollen part of his anatomy.A newly married couple in Turin set up a video camera in their bedroom to tape all of their honeymoon activities. But somehow certain crucial wires got crossed. While they were enjoying their honeymoon sex, so was everyone else in their apartment building: the couple had accidentally connected their camera to the building's cable television system. In the national bestseller The 776 Stupidest Things Ever Said Ross and Kathryn Petras immortalized idiotic utterances by public figures and average citizens alike. The 176 Stupidest Things Ever Done chronicled fiascoes, senseless stunts, and utterly asinine activities from around the globe. Now, Stupid Sex takes on the subject that no one can resist. It's about people who get caught in the act . . . and about people who get caught in the trash disposal. Stupid Sex tells two hundred true stories of extremely dumb (and very funny) sex acts arranged under headings ranging from Airplane Sex to Zoo Bathroom Sex.
Customer Reviews:
Stupid, stupid, stupid.......2006-01-25
I guess it's true -- reality is stranger than fiction.
And the proof of that is in "Stupid Sex," a compendium of goof-ups, embarrassments and funny stories about problems with sex. And weird sex. And criminal sex. And pervy sex. And animal sex. And... well, the list goes on and on, getting funnier as it goes on.
Arranged alphabetically, this collection includes sex freaks (sewing needles, mannequins, dogs and pool drains), embarrassing situations (the police investigate a rape, only to discover it's a noisy honeymooner), and people doing the oddest things in sex, including yacht varnish and garbage disposals.
The book is full of all kinds of freaky things like hang-gliding voyeurs, garbage fetishes, wedding videos full of sex with dogs, erotic bubblegum, porn videos, penis worshipers, nudists, gay roosters, naked women covered in chocolate, frosting perverts, amorous tortoises, and people who get stuck in confined spaces during sex. Not to mention castration -- accidental, intentional and even self-inflicted. Yes, self-inflicted.
As any comedian will tell you, sex is full of comic opportunity -- especially since there are so many ways it can go wrong. And there are basically two kinds of stories in this book: the ones that are hideously embarrassing (and very funny) or the kind which are straightforwardly hilarious (like a student who plays a very sick prank with a cadaver's penis).
A few stories in here aren't quite hilarious, usually the ones that don't involve humans. It's amusing that the pygmy hippo can't figure out how to mate, or the sexually frustrated tortoise, but not really funny ha-ha. The stories are at their funniest when they focus on human beings, and the idiotic things they can do.
Kathryn and Ross Petras, fortunately, don't deliver this is a straight-faced manner. These anecdotes are written in a wry, slightly bemused fashion, as if they're not entirely sure how other human beings could be either so stupid, or so weird. You're usually left wondering, "How could that stripper NOT know that she was wiggling her butt at her grandfather?"
Wryly written and thoroughly weird, "Stupid Sex" lives up to its name. Weird, wacky and sometimes very embarrassing -- and all the funnier for it.
Funny.......2002-08-12
This is a very funny book,Yet I find alot of the stories hard to
believe. It's a great book for cuddling up with your spouse and having a good chuckle.
Funny.......2000-09-08
I am a bit ashamed to be writing this review as this is not a topic that I would have expected myself to comment upon, but this was a very funny book. I actually first saw the author on German tv when I was on vacation and then later heard about it back here in North America and finally got the book. And it is very funny! I don't usually post reviews, but this is a defintely funny book and I do recommend it. I hope this helps anyone who read this.
Extremely funny.......2000-01-15
I saw the Stupid Sex web site first, then had to read the book and I'm glad I did. I couldn't stop laughing. This is extremely funny, there are stories from all over the place about the most humorous sexual activities you can imagine. It's best read in bits and pieces, not in one reading. But it will definitely get you to laugh a lot! All I know is that I'm glad I never tried the things in here. Well, if I did, I wouldn't let anyone know.
Totally Wild Humor.......1999-04-20
Incredible... These stories are amazing -- and totally hysterical. You won't believe what you're reading -- and you'll laugh your head off. You would be amazed at what some people will do for a good time. Truly killingly funny.

Advice on how to avoid the top 25 partnership pitfalls
With 60 percent of remarriages ending in divorce, it's clear that couples are making the same mistakes over and over again. In 25 Stupid Mistakes Couple Make, marriage therapist Paul Coleman takes a candid look at why relationships flounder and provides workable strategies on how to mend or strengthen commitment. He discusses how couples can turn common blunders into positive solutions.
Book Description
Is God male or female? Why do women, but not men, flush public toilets with their feet? Why are men, but not women, obsessed with parallel parking? Why do women, but not men, leave eleven-minute messages on answering machines? Why do men feel guilty about nothing, and women feel guilty about everything? Was Marilyn Monroe...fat?
These philosophical quandaries, and more, are finally debated in I'm with Stupid, an uproariously funny dialogue between Gene Weingarten, the gleefully misogynistic Washington Post humor columnist, and Gina Barreca, the gleefully feminist University of Connecticut professor.
The first significant book about men and women actually written by a man and a woman, I'm with Stupid is privy to the dark secrets of both sexes. It's not a lecture, but an extended argument, a combustion of viewpoints that winds up unearthing startling truths. In the words of Gene and Gina: "Our Mars and Venus breach their orbits and collide in a screaming fireball from Hell."
The subject matter spans art and expression, science and technology, politics and history, spirituality and religion, sex and sexuality, as well as the complex etiology, sociology, and etymology of dirty jokes. Men: Learn at last how to know for sure when you are having a fight. Women: Learn what he really means when he says "I'm sorry." Take sides as Gene and Gina face off in a haggling challenge in which the winner manages to get the lowest price for a Mercedes S500. Or just take in the show.
I'm with Stupid is the book that finally establishes, conclusively, that women are funnier than men. And vice versa.

A bit slow, but some great moments.......2006-07-31
I got this book for our first datingaversary (anniversary between those not yet married or engaged) -- great gift idea, by the way, since it was a hit with the boyfriend and his friends found the gift idea pretty funny as well.
If you're familiar with Gene and Gina, then this book is very similar to the articles featured in the Washington Post. Be prepared for the same sort of slow build-up, then laughing-so-hard-sides-aching humour that Gene and Gina put together. Some weeks are gems, other weeks are a bit off. My only major criticism of this book is that Gina is so polar to the point where it is ridiculous exaggeration or just plain unbelievable that someone could be that ornery and bitchy. Her polemic ideas and thoughts do set up for some of the best *zings!* though.
All in all, not a bad book, you'd just bookmark the funny chapters and only reread those parts.
Boys Suck! According to me (...).......2006-02-27
This book was excellent. When I saw the title of this book in the bookstore I knew I would love it. I relate to this book in so many ways. Sadly every boy I know annoys me. I wanted to be friends with boys but I just didn't know how at this age. Then I read this book,it showed me how different the male and female sex is. It helped me realize how to ignore boy's stupidity (to a point) and just know for the most part boys are funny and fun to be with. This book was hilarious and I loved it. It's a little over the top but still definitely worth reading. If your interested in realistic-fiction you should definetly read this book. Also write your own review,so other teens like you and me can read this great book.
just out in a paperback version and this means I can own it!.......2006-01-28
I saw these guys at a reading a couple of years ago but couldn't afford to buy it which is why I moved to a better job in a new city but now that the paperback is out I am getting it for anybody I know who complains about their relationship, which is everybody! because they make it impossible not to laugh at yourself and your partner. It is an easy read, keep it next to the bathroom! and you'll laugh at every page.
I love these writers.......2006-01-26
This is a funny, funy book. They are a great team. No where else can you get 2 people who give you ideas of what it is like from the other person's perspective. This is a book to read more than once. W. is a great writer.
For Typicals only.......2006-01-18
If you are a "typical," meaning, you're typically female or typically male, you will enjoy this book.
As an atypical female, I am offended by Regina's acceptance only of women who are just like she is. Any woman who does not fit her pre-identified mold of "woman" is not welcomed in the world at large, nor is she represented in this "book." Having read "I'm with Stupid" only affirms my stance as proud-to-be-atypical.
This "book" reads exactly as it is: several IM/email sessions between two strangers who have never met, and who, at the end of the "book," debate on whether or not they should meet in the future. After all, they have "written a book together." (rolleyes) When all is said and done, these are two middle aged writers who thought this concept would be "cool," but instead, they come across as the only two people who think this "concept" is cool.
Other reviewers have mentioned funny banter, and this is present. However, reading both sides' inane explanations, excuses and reasonings to back up his/her theories as fact is for those who are satisfied with the current state of men vs women, male v female.
Enough already with the battle of the sexes!!! We're always asking men to change for women but perhaps if women changed how they did things (face things with integrity rather than manipulation), men would really wise up and start paying attention, because then they would be able to respect women. Until then, let's not look to Regina Barreca for her outdated thoughts on this subject.

CUPID IS STUPID by Aaron Jr. Bryant.......2006-07-29
I was waiting until someone else wrote a review before I could write one myself.
For starters, I am over the age 13 and I am not a kid or even a child. But I don't have an account and wanted to put down a review.
The author of this book is related to one of my best friends. I was able to get this book at a discount. I was reluctant to buy it at first, but glad I bought this book.
I love this book, in fact its one of my favorite books in my entire collection of books that I own. Its hilarious and the various story lines in it is excellent. I could hardly put the book down myself, it was just that excellent. But because there are alot of sexual references in this book, I advise you not allow little kids to see. As I was told by my friend, her relative also the author of this book, was told that this book is for those at the age of 18 and over.
Anyway, if you have a chance to read this book, do so. You will enjoy it.
I also apologize if my review seems biased. I understand that it appears that way because I have a friend who happens to be related to the author. I can assure you, I am not writing this review just so sales of this book can improve. I actually did read this and enjoyed it. I apologize if you feel that I was forced in any way to write a review, but I can assure you of that as well that noone paid me to do this. Please support this new author. Once again this book is amazing and I recommend it.

More than anything you will identify with the charecters and will not be able to put th ebook down till it's done. The author combines charecters that feel real and a series of story lines that connect a group a friends as they try to find their own paths to love. I personally can't wait till the next book or whatever else the author might have planned. Good job!
