Excellent, Easy-to-Use Workbook for Organizations Engaged in Strategic Planning Process.......2005-09-26
When our organization decided to engage in the strategic planning process, I reviewed a myriad of resources, and I believe that this workbook is the best. Not only does it explain the planning process well, but it offers a variety of paths through which to pursue planning, making it useful for any organization at any stage of growth. Plus, the worksheets are a great addition. Overall, the workbook has helped our planning process tremendously.
A blueprint for planning the future.......2000-08-30
A good workhorse of a book which takes you through the steps of creating a strategic plan for your organization. A little sketchy in some areas but does provide great worksheets to action all the stages. I particularly liked the emphasis on trying to be realistic in your approach and in the resources needed.

Customer Reviews:
My Board loved the charts.......2007-06-08
The Planning Committee of the Board of Directors at my nonprofit wants to get the full Board engaged in strategic planning within a year. The chart in this book that shows the steps in the process was just what they wanted. It was worth the purchase price...and we haven't started to use it yet!
Strategic leaders at NPOs should read this book.......2006-04-23
The authors of this book do a nice job of condensing the content of their book into a diagram at page 15 that they entitle: "The Strategic Planning Process." Then they explain the diagram chapter by chapter. The chapters are full of good information and lots of exhibits, worksheets, and real-life examples. Job well done! I recommend to anybody interested in preparing a business plan for a for-profit or a nonprofit to read this book. And I also recommend all strategic leaders (i.e. executive directors, board chairs, and CEOs) read this book. It should be helpful to them in performing their job duties.
The book basically points out the following series of questions and/or tasks a strategic leader much consider when doing his or her job:
1. What is the organization doing now?
2. What are its strengths?
3. What are its weaknesses?
4. Are we heading in the direction we want?
5. What must we change to get back on track?
6. Prepare a written plan for change.
7. Implement the plan for change.
8. Monitor the implementation.
9. Reevaluate the plan for change.
I would have liked the book better if the authors had more accurately described what a business plan is, and what it is used for. The authors seem to think that a business plan is something that a for-profit entity creates in order to get loans from lenders or capital from investors. While it is true this is one of the reasons for writing a business plan, the more important reason a plan is written is that it acts as a roadmap for the leader and management of the business to follow towards success. Most businesses that do not have a written business plan are doomed for failure. NPOs without a business plan will probably not be successful either.
Another shortcoming I found in the book was that the authors do not point out that NPOs need a "business plan" just as much as does a for-profit. NPOs also need a roadmap to follow. Whether the authors want to admit it or not, a business plan for an NPO is pretty much the same document as a business plan for an organization seeking profits. The difference between the two plans exists in the marketing section - and that is the only difference. NPOs need to market to their customers/clients and to philanthropists that have a connection and commitment to their cause, whereas for-profit businesses need only market to their customers/clients.
Any NPO should have a business plan starting on the day it comes into existence. The strategic planning process described in this book can be used to create that written business plan. Therefore, this book is for NPO founders. After the business plan exists and it is being used as a roadmap to success, then the effectiveness of the plan must be monitored regularly. When it appears the plan is not proving effective, then the strategic planning process described in this book should be used again to implement change to get the NPO back on track to success.
Strategic leadership is a critical role that any leader must play, and if he or she can't, then she has no business assuming a leadership role. A "leader" who does not know how to perform strategic leadership is merely a manager, not a leader. I think it is a sad state of affaires that so many executive directors and board chairs are clueless when it comes to strategic planning - thus they are just managers. The authors, by writing this book, have created a resource for wanta-be leaders to use to learn how to do an important and critical part of their job - lead strategically.
good basic introduction.......2006-03-17
Book provides a good basic introduction to strategic planning from the non-profit perspective. Although I already knew strategic planning from the corporate side, this book showed how it differs when applied to the non-profit arena. The review of the SWOT process was a bit simplistic, but I found the checklist for evaluating projects helpful. The disc and the worksheets were definitely worth the price of the book
Excellent Resource for Non-profit Boardmembers.......2005-09-30
This book is a step by step guide with suggested modifications to fit the needs of any group. The worksheets, included on an accompanying CD, are very useful. I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in strategic planning for any organization - public, private or non-profit.
For those serious about strategic planning!.......2005-09-12
A great book that does what many non-profit management books don't -- talks about dollars and cents as well as need and impact. CD is underutilized (compared with, say, the CD included with "Non-Profit Kit for Dummies"), but the worksheet concept is good. Their "do either this OR this" might be confusing for novices. Not too far of a stretch to connect this with a "balanced scorecard" evaluation. CompassPoint's Dual Bottom-Line Matrix (p. 188), while complicated-sounding, actually should clarify decision-making for many non-profit managers.

Why this person is asking nearly $200 is a mystery. This workbook is available new for $15 at the following site:

The workbook is great; a very good but basic guide to help you start a risk management comittee and program, especially for a non-profit. It takes you through the process step by step-- a bargain for $15.

The author of the rags-to-riches real estate bestseller Nothing Down for the '90s presents advice drawn from 20 years of writing and promoting get-rich books through seminars, infomercials, and home-study courses. In Multiple Streams of Income, Robert G. Allen shows you how to create income with little or no investment. Says Allen: "Today, very few families can survive on less than two streams of income. In the volatile future, you will need a portfolio of income streams--not one or two--but many streams from completely different and diversified sources."
Beginning with advice on controlling spending and increasing savings, Allen hits his stride in chapters on stock market and real estate investing. He draws on the investment advice of others, including Peter Lynch, and even suggests that you invest in Berkshire Hathaway and let Warren Buffett manage your money. Allen also shares his real estate strategies for finding motivated sellers, securing creative financing, and buying foreclosures and tax liens. Additional chapters cover multilevel-network marketing, information and product licensing, and marketing on the Internet. Throughout are checklists, work sheets, and testimonials, as well as pointers to more articles and materials on the author's Web site. It's useful to have so much information so concisely and well explained, and many who read this book will find it hard to resist implementing one, if not several, of Allen's recommended income strategies. --Scott Harrison

Knowledge of the structures and properties of nonferrous metals, such as aluminum, is required knowledge for all materials scientists, chemists, and metallurgists. However, existing books often include this topic with their description of ferrous metals. Because ferrous metals (steel and cast iron) are by far the most widely used metals, coverage of nonferrous metals in these books is cursory or absent. For this reason there is a need for a book that deals with nonferrous metals.

Can You Make Multiple Streams Of Income Online?.......2007-05-23
I first learned of the term Multiple Stream Of Income from Robert Allen the No Money Down guy. He pretty much coined the phrase all the way to the bank. I read his book a few years ago, it was the number one best seller on The New York Times Best Seller's list. I was so thrilled to get my hands on it I just knew that this was the long awaited manuscript that we marketers wanted to give it a test drive.
It was a good read, however it had too many twist and turns and it cost a bit much at the time to implement his methods from just one website, and it was not the results I was looking for. I knew there had to be a better way for us new marketers to reach that illusive extra income stream.
I begin to wonder, can you actually make multiple streams of income online? I continued my search for the missing pieces of the MSI puzzle that would put it altogether; With the many product offers that promises you the world if you would try this program, and use it with this technique, and you'll surely be on your way to riches.
After several years of online seeking, I can now say I've been to the mountain top of internet marketing offers, and what I have come down with is this; there are many claims being made about multiple streams of income online that you can use right now in your marketing campaign to a steady flow of extra income. I found this unique website with multiple streams of income you can get from Google, Ebay, Clickbank, CJ; etc. All from one cool little website. I have studied the likes of Tim Knoxs, Brad Callen, Mike Falsaime; etc, and a host of other top online experts in this field of multiple streams of income and their proven systems, and what I have found will surprise you.
Don believes that less than 5% of the marketers are making it online, and 95% of the programs online are a waste of money. There are no more secrets, just the facts. If you are focus you'll learn one of many proven marketing tools I'll show you to help you along your way to build Multiple Streams Of Income Online the correct way.[...]
Robert G Allen Rocks.......2007-05-08
This is a awesome "How to" book for amassing the wealth necessary to break the gravitational forces of depending on employment for your financial security.
First, control the leaks in your financial pond
Second, add streams of income to that financial pond - includes lots of ideas
You'll have to read it to get the rest. I can hardly wait to get my hands on some of the other Robert Allen books.
A Smorgasbord of Options From Which to Pick and Profit .......2007-04-19
There's no doubt that the content in Multiple Streams of Income will have your head swirling with wealth-building possibilities.
I believe that the book opens the doors of opportunity in areas you may not have considered. At the same time, not every concept is right for every person.
I found myself skimming chapters I'm not ready to pursue and slow to absorb chapters that contain ideas I can capitalize on right away. When I develop a comfort zone and steady income through the strongest possibilities, I'll re-read the chapters that contained ideas I wasn't ready to develop. Perhaps this tip will also help you.
The section I found to be extremely beneficial was chapter two, The 10-Minute Millionaire. It masterfully explains how to value time so that you can concentrate on the multiple streams open to you. That's key no matter which revenue opportunities you choose.
I appreciate a book that identifies numerous revenue sources, provides examples, and includes charts with a visual perspective on what's possible to increase personal wealth. At the end, your brain may be on overload. However, taking action on just one idea from this book has the potential to change your life for the better.
Alright, too many stories. No real meat.......2007-02-24
I was expecting to get a book that would steer me into the course of making some more money on the side. While it does inform readers of ways of generating more cash flow, each chapter seems to just be filled with non-practical wisdom on how to enter each money-making field.
If you own a business, or want to .....read this book to grow your sales BIG TIME.......2007-01-25
The simple strategies in this book can be the difference from your small business staying small(shrinking) or it exploding.
Book points out the "gold" in your own customer list and how to create, expand and benefit from all of the relationships you have built in your business.
As a small business owner taking just a few steps from this book will help us increase sales using no extra money, just our time to work with our existing customer.
Use your web site for more than just a place for people to look at or read about what you do, make it a BIG asset.
If you have been in business for a while and think that just having a web site is engough, you are missing out on additional income AND it is much easier to capture than finding new customers the hard and expensive way.

This book has made me a lot of money!.......2006-04-27
I purchased this book less than a year ago and using the advice of the author I have made enough money in real estate investing to quit my job and do it full time. I have read dozens of books on the subject and found this to be by far the most helpful. It is easy to read and gives a lot of specific, useful advise.
Caveat Emptor "let the buyer beware" .......2006-02-04
Mostly be aware of the numerous 5 star reviews for this book.
This book is so lacking that it doesn't even suit the novice.
This book is a tout for the authors web site.
Usually one can ignore the frequent mention of the authors other collateral such as his experience, websites and seminars but this book is so absent of answers that it's title procliams that you have to believe the book was written soley for promotion and not knowledge.
How shallow is this book? Consider this; if the key board that I'm typing on right now where to explode and the keys were to stick to my ceiling, the letters would form better advice about Unlimited Real Estate Profit than this book.
Seriously, there are other books that are far better on this subject.
Arrogant and Disappointingly Simple.......2005-08-18
He offers some speculating advice and that's about it! The rest of the information is very basic knowledge and about education services he provides which can be bought for a fee. The author appeared quite arrogant throughout, even going as far to name the standard real estate cycle after himself! There were a lot of "I did this!" and "I did that!" and "I'm so wonderful to help people!" This book is not worth your time, unless you enjoy reading the advertisement section of the newspaper, only without the fancy pictures and print.
Put to the Test!.......2005-04-28
I first read this book in December of 2003. I went to my first absorption market (explained in the book) in March/April of 2004. Simply stated:This works! In the chosen market I went to (JAX, Florida ) I have purchased 20 single family homes. I live, however, in California. I have been able to follow concepts in the book to "Live where I want, and invest where it makes financial sense." If one can grasp the innovative potential of the concepts and information from this book then large financial gains are obtainable. The book is a guide on where and how to do it but it is up to the proactive reader to follow through and get it done.

3 1/2 stars.......2004-04-16
A solid beginners tome. Gives good advice on how to drum up business. I always say if you can get a couple of good ideas form a book that help you make some money, you've got your money's worth. One thing I really like are the true story tidbits inserted every so often. I really liked the idea on p. 94 and have begun to use this one myself.
One of the weaknesses of a beginners book like this is that all too often they dont explain the numbers. Real estate is all about the numbers. No formulas to help you determine if a certain deal is actually good or not.
I just ordered the book , but wanted to comment on other..........2003-11-21
I have been reading these reviews and I just wanted to comment on them. I have yet to read this book but the topic is realistic. Flipping or wholesaling properties is very easy (once you have thoroughly researched your market), lucrative and legal. You can very well get properties well below market value. If you arrange the financing for your buyer and they have their exit strategy defined you can put them in the property without any money of their own. It is not some pie in the sky. It is the reality for many people. Granted you will not get the nicest property in the highest demand area, but you will get the property that has enough wrong with it to scare off the homebuyer who wants a pristine perfect house. There are two parts to the brain, the thinker and the prover, if the thinker wants to believe it impossible and think all the stories are made up, the prover will set out to prove them right. I don't know if this book has good info or not but the answers are out there and the deals are out there.
Rehashed [stuff]..........2003-08-30
If you've never read a book on real estate investing, I would recommend a more seriously written book on the subject, not this get rich quick book. I have read Robert Shemin's earlier books and this is a rehash of them. Try "investing in real estate" or "the unofficial guide to real estate investing". These two books are very well written and don't make real estate investing sound like a late night infomercial, as, unfortunately Robert Shemin's books do.
Little information except how readers can give author more $.......2003-03-08
The author structures most chapters around vague generalities. Each chapter contains several pitches to get readers to subscribe to the authors pay site for the "real" information. Secondly the author repeats himself so many times if you cut the book in half and gave each half to a friend neither friend would miss anything.
The book is clearly a get rich scheme for the author akin to stuffing envelopes. The two stars it does get are for being semi motivational even though it lacks content.
Not what the LA TImes promised. maybe ok for 1st timer.......2003-02-11
I have a few other real estate books and read a great review of this in the LA Times, (thinking they have been right before). This book does have a few good ideas and resent them well. The one thing I thought Robert would cover is HOW he secures some of his financing and different financing options. It felt a bit self-serving when he devoted too much space to the legal service he uses and now represents. I may look at his earlier works before I buy again. I would really love to hear from others on definitive real estate investing books.
