Most people come to know of Warren Buffett through his ability to generate wealth. However, as Janet Lowe reveals in her book, Warren Buffett Speaks, Buffett is more than a money-making machine. Warren Buffett Speaks is a library of notes and quotes that have been collected over the years, aimed at revealing the many aspects of the World's Greatest Investor--his wit, personality, and wisdom. The first half of the book deals with Buffett's view of life, family, and friends, while the latter half focuses on Buffett's investment philosophy and observations about the market. This book is a must for every Buffettologist.
Book Description
The world takes note when WARREN BUFFETT SPEAKS:
"If people want to improve their investing skills, it has to help to study how the Master does it. This short book outlines Buffett's philosophy and techniques." - Peter S. Lynch, Vice Chairman Fidelity Investments
"Common sense with a deft irony . . ." - John C. Bogle, Chairman The Vanguard Group of Investment Companies
"It was Warren Buffett's thoughts and philosophy that first captivated investors. Janet Lowe has done us all a great service by collecting and arranging Warren Buffett's wit and wisdom in an easy-to-read and enjoyable book." - Robert G. Hagstrom, Jr. Portfolio Manager, Focus Trust author of The Warren Buffett Way
"A must-read. Buffett's wit and wisdom is a roadmap for anyone looking to succeed in business, investing, and life." - Steve Halpern Editor and Publisher Dick Davis Publishing
"With enough insider information and a million dollars, you can go broke in a year." "What I am is a realist. I always knew I'd like what I'm doing. Oh, perhaps it would have been nice to be a major league baseball player, but that's where the realism comes in." "If a graduating MBA were to ask me, 'How do I get rich in a hurry?' I would not respond with quotations from Ben Franklin or Horatio Alger, but would, instead, hold my nose with one hand and point with the other toward Wall Street."
Discover life's little secrets of success as revealed by the world's greatest investor. In this wise and winning collection of quotes, writings, and favorite sayings, Warren Buffett Speaks on diverse subjects such as investing, running a business, honesty, schoolteaching, paying taxes, and much, much more. Assembled by bestselling author Janet Lowe - and including a wealth of previously unpublished material - this unprecedented peek into the financial genius's wildly profitable philosophy is often surprising, always intriguing, and sparked throughout by Buffett's unique combination of savvy business smarts and wry wit. Here's just a sample of what you'll find inside: "Wall Street is the only place that people ride to work in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway." "All there is to investing is picking good stocks at good times and staying with them as long as they remain good companies." "Maybe grapes from a little eight acre vineyard in France are really the best in the world, but I always had a suspicion that about 99 percent of it is in the telling and about 1 percent of it is in the drinking." "I want to explain my mistakes. This means I do only the things I completely understand." "In the end, I always believe my eyes rather than anything else."
Customer Reviews:
A remake of an old book.......2007-10-02
She turns a great man into a cartoon character and refeeds us old quotes that she sold us years ago. Janet is a great writer but this is far from her best work. And the sad part of it is that she knows the man and could have given us some good personal insight. If you read the first edition don't bother with the second. And if you read the second don't expect to get much insight into Buffett's investment methods. Can't recommend this book, but I can recommend her books on Graham and Munger, which are both first class reads and worth the price.
Great Bathroom Reading.......2007-09-13
I read the rest of these reviews below and was amazed at how little praise the author got for his creative collection of Buffett insight. I have read many books on Buffett and I like how this author has gotten the facts about Buffett out in a simple easy to read manor. I say it is great bathroom reading because you can just open the book to any point and read a few pages to learn about a certain section in Buffett's life. It is true that all of this info is found in other publications about Buffett, but this book is fun to read and teaches you about Buffett the man and what he has learned about life. I think it is a great supplement to the other books about Buffett and is a must have for anyone who is looking to emulate Buffett's life and success.
Great insight on a great investor and a great person.......2007-06-29
I try to read everything on Warren Buffett and this book uncovers some new info that I haven't read. This book uncovers more about Buffett, the person, not just Buffett, the investor, even though the bulk of the book is on the latter. Most people like him because he is smart and he is rich but they don't know that he is also a great guy and a good person. He is a great change from the "Hey, it's only business" attitude as he would rather save a good company and lose some money than just fire everyone and sell it. He believes making money is important but building relationships with good people and good management is even more important since this is rare feat. He is not into material things as he still lives in his first house in his hometown driving the same car. Money to him is just a scoreboard. He has made the largest donation to charity in history and plans to give most of it away as opposed to leaving it as inheritance for his family since he believes that would be foodstamps for the rich. You learn a lot from this book about life, not just investing. My favorite part of the book is on his attitude. He is supremely confident and never has any doubt in anything he do. If you ever compare Berk with S&P 500, you will find they are two different graphs. This is testimony to his stay-true commitment to his investment strategy, a very important quality to have if you do decide to invest.
Not recommended.......2005-11-03
If you are interested in reading about Buffett and his investment approach, this book is useless. This is a very short collection of quotes, most of which you will run into anyway.
If interested in Buffett as an investor, one good book is The Essays of Warren Buffett. If you want to save money even on this one, without missing out on the content, just download the letters to shareholders Buffett has written over the years and posted on Berkshire Hathaway's website, for free of course.
Work of a lazy author..........2005-02-12
If being an author means collecting a few dozen quotes from various sources, sprinkling them with dry, useless opinions, and putting them together in an overpriced book, then I wager that anyone reading this can call themselves a writer.
The only reason I gave it two stars is because I liked the quotes. Warren Buffett is the world's greatest investor, the second richest man on the globe, and one of the very few who chose to stay out of the internet boom and bust. While millionaires and billionaires were overseeing the fading of their paper fortunes, Buffett was getting richer.
The many quotes offer an insight into the inner workings of Buffett, and that's really the only redeeming aspect of this book, if it can be called that. Whether your are a seasoned investor, a student of business, or someone looking to quote the words of one of the most brilliant men in the game, you will find value in this book.

The details of Buffett's philosophy aren't explained.......2001-01-02
Ok, this is is so simple that even fifth graders can understand it. It is however, painfully superficial. Only the most rudimentry information is presented about Buffett. Buffett said in the book that you can't think of good ideas by reading/talking. I agree, and that makes the book pretty much worthless. Here is an example of where he is lacking in details. (no fault of the author). He talks about how he only buys stocks for the long term and actually wants a 100% tax on profits from stocks that were held less than a year or two. He doesn't explain the economic ramificiations clearly. He makes investing sound like buy it and forget it. I paraphrase something he said, "we buy a stock and leave it alone until we hear bad news, we don't care about the good news". I mean, come on, over simplification, can you really believe that? He thinks that stock price directly correlate with company's fundamentals. I agree, but uh, long term is a long time. Ok just to sum it up, this book is really more of a biography than a 'investment philosophy+tips for investing'
I think the book is bad because of the lack of information from Buffett. And I am 18 years old and I have been investing for 4 years now.
A great book for the begginer investor......... :-).......1999-02-06
I think that this is an excellent book for anyone wanting to learn how the worlds most famous investor made his riches or anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps.
As a 14 year old who loves business and investing ......... this book can be read and understood by almost anyone

Managers need to hire the right people, give them the right systems, and train them to attend to customers and recognize their needs. Measuring and Managing Customer Satisfaction is intended for companies with limited staffs to design and implement an effective customer assessment system. Kessler takes the reader through all stages of measuring customer satisfaction so they devise a rigorous, yet simple system that draws input from many sources. The book takes a step-by-step approach to planning, implementing and getting results from a customer service strategy. The "Tool Tip" section provides a ready reference on how to use the tools and includes: Customer satisfaction surveys; Focus groups; lost customer and transaction surveys; analysis and synthesis methods.

Measuring and Managing Customer Satisfaction.......2000-03-18
This book is what its title says: it is for companies that are ready to go for the gold, the profitabilty associated with satisfied customers who tell others and buy again and again. It is a complete, wholistic approach to customer satisfaction that knocked my socks off. Of course, you will ask customers about their satisfaction. What Sheila Kessler adds to this formula is that you have to have a large radar screen to get the information that will make a difference. Have you talked with customers who have left? Do you know that if you do, they may return? What systems do you have for picking up customer compliments and complaints? Do you act vigorously to let your customers know they have been heard? Do you know how much this approach can affect your bottom line? The book is very user friendly. Easy to read and easy to use. Sheila Kessler shares a wealth of data from the studies she has reviewed. What has worked for others? What does not work? What is most important? She gives examples of approaches that others have found useful. But, for me, what was most important was that she takes a wholistic view at what it means to measure and manage customer satisfaction. Want to turn around your employees so they spend more time focusing on customers and less time protecting their own turf? Use this book as a tool and follow it step by step with your employees, Decide what works for your company and then implement it.You will have a lot of loyal customers thanking you for the opportunity to do more business with you.

Months of hard work lead to success, with Chris gaining strength every day, finally finding the elusive sponsor he needs for financial support. Secrets, hidden dangers, and family troubles plague them, though, and they have to face the fact that Chris might never compete again. Can they score a Perfect Ten? Customer Reviews:
FLYS HIGH BUT DOESN'T STICK THE LANDING.......2007-09-27
The title may imply perfection, but this novel, unfortunately, is not perfect. Oh the potential is definitely there, but the result left me wanting a great deal more than I got.
I love the basic premise of a gymnast, Chris, coming back from serious injury with the aid of a new coach, Brian, a coach destined to become his lover. And I love that Chris has an identical twin brother, an obvious shout out to Paul and Morgan Hamm, although Chris' brother is not a gymnast, rather a former tennis player studying to become a doctor.
But the story itself is too slight. Heck, Chris doesn't even actually go to a meet. We simply have to trust Brian that he's the best in the world. Also once the couple starts having sex, which to be fair is well into the book, it seems like they're having it every three pages. That's fine for male/male erotica, of which Michael's has written several volumes, but I felt this story could have been so much more. There is a nice suspenseful episode towards the end of the novel, but I'm afraid it's too little too late.
Frankly, the way this author churns out books, he probably wanted to keep things as simple as possible, not taking on too many additional characters, and an actual gymnastics' meet would have required that.
PERFECT TEN could have been a wonderful and complex gay sports romance, but it fell several points short. Upon completion, the book left me loving the characters, but feeling rather ambivalent about the plot.
Good Story.......2007-06-29
Good story and plot development. Didn't know anything about the spins or moves but Sean Michael has done his homework and given the reader a very good insight into what makes a good athlete. Gay or straight! Evolving, strong love between Chris & Brian brings the reader along the storyline of the making of a comeback and part 2.
Book Description
Mike Gauliet could be a world class swimmer if he took care of himself better. He's too good to let go, so his team coach calls in a private trainer, up-and-coming hardass Jessy Turner. Jessy locks Mike down, putting him on a strict regimen of diet and exercise that Mike resents a lot until he finds himself becoming a better swimmer for it. Jessy finds Mike all but irresistible, but he stays away to begin with, making decisions based on what's best for Mike's career. The two of them resist their attraction to each other for as long as they can, but sooner or later they have to give into the heat between them. When things go wrong, though, can they, and their sports careers, survive the strain? CB Potts, author of Tuesday's Rubies, says, "(Sean) Michael is to be commended. Fans of sports smut, such as myself, are sure to be pleased with the mix of athleticism and eroticism, and romance fans will love the emotional heights and depths the couple journey through." Pick up this hot, athletic romance today! And look for Personal Best II, a Going for the Gold novel, on shelves next to Personal Best!
Customer Reviews:
Tough coach and pliant student.......2007-10-17
Jesse is an older tough professional swimming coach, Mike a nineteen year old orphan and a born swimmer. When Jesse takes Mike on full time it turns out to more than just as his trainer. Part of the deal is that Mike moves in to live with Jesse; the two men soon fall in love.
Well written as one expects of Sean Michael, the story really centres around the love affair, with the swimming aspect playing a very poor second. I found this a little disappointing; I would have loved to see the swimming, and all the possibilities that pools and changing rooms could afford, playing a bigger role. The two characters are appealing, Jesse as the tough no nonsense coach, and Mike the slightly naïve and very bubbly youngster. But too much of the story is devoted to the rather repetitive M/M action, and not enough to the plot; even the initial seduction is far too easy. On the other hand if you like lots of hot and occasionally dominant action, then you won't be disappointed.
I purchased this along with the sequel, Personal Best 2; it will be interesting to see how Sean Michael develops the story.

They're scorching hot and ready to go to the top competitions when another injury forces Mike to the sidelines. Book Description
Twelve-year-old Laura Lee and her thirteen-year-old partner, Patric, have their sights set on the Junior Pair skating championship at the Montreal Grand Prix. After months of preparation, they are almost ready for the performance of their lives. Well drilled in their lifts and spins, the two skate like a dream together. But a training accident puts Patric out of action. Laura"s dreams are shattered—unless she can find a new partner at the last minute. Laura has seen a boy at the rink with natural talent but no training. Can Scott turn into the perfect partner in just two weeks?
Customer Reviews:
Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-01-26
DOUBLE TWIST finds Laura and Patrick gearing up to compete in an ice-dancing championship in Montreal. This time, they expect a medal. Their excitement overpowers the strenuous workouts, until an accident ruins their plans. When Patrick goes down, his knee prevents him from dancing again, until after the competition. Laura sinks into depression, until she thinks of a brilliant plan to stay in the competition.
During normal skating hours at the rink, Laura spies one boy showing off his footwork. He looks like he has all the right moves, and with a little work, she has a new skating partner. Keeping him as a partner is an entirely different matter. Boys tease him about ice-dancing, but Laura finds a way to make it more appealing. Together Laura and Scott work on a hip-hop ice-dancing routine. The uniqueness of their dancing could ultimately blow up in their faces, but they're willing to work like crazy and have a little fun to try something completely new.
This novel is great fun and will be popular with girls looking for more sport books. The book, set in the U.K., is half-Americanized, making the reader wonder exactly where it is located. At the championship, Scott and Laura are announced as the team from the U.K., but it's never revealed beforehand. Words like Mum and soccer make it a little bit hard for the reader to figure out the setting. However, this slight issue did not take away from the enjoyment of the book.
