Simply Felt.......2007-08-18
Great book! I learned alot...it was a great resource for what I was trying to learn about.
Highly reccommend it!
Inspirational - but vague in parts..........2007-07-12
This is a gorgeous book with amazing projects and I found it really inspiring, however, just a warning that i didn't think this was the best book for a beginner. I am not completely new to felting and bought this book in conjunction with one that had really clear instructions, which I cross-referenced with Simply Felt to get a better understanding of what I needed to do. The pics are amazing and definitely inspiring - just make sure you have a good basic knowledge if you are going to rely solely on this book to guide you. Happy felting!
Good, but needs more info on technique.......2007-03-24
I bought this book as part of a kit from a felting supplier. The photos are beautiful, and the projects great. The problem I do have with this book is that there is not enough info on the techniques of actually making the felt. I would like to have gotten more info on troubleshooting, such as what to do when it's thin in spots, laying out the wool, etc. Also, there are NO photos of how to actually lay out the roving or what it should look like before you start wetting it down. There are only hand drawn illustrations. I was hoping for a little more than that from a book that labels itself for beginners.
Overall, though, it's a good book, and well done. I can't wait to try some of the vessels and the slippers.
scrumptious.......2007-03-09
I can't help but purchase books on felting. This is now my favorite. It's instructions are concise and to the point. The projects are colorful, and inviting. The photographs; beautiful eye candy. Anyone interested in creating with wool will find this book a joy.
A great book for fleece to felt use with NO knitting!.......2007-01-07
I looked and looked for a book that would let you felt right from the fleece. This book is pretty simple and lets you just work from fleece with minimal supplies to create felt. Some nice patterns in here too. The containers on the cover are a great pattern and the explanation to create them is one that i did not find on the internet. I specifically purchased this book after seeing some of the silk guaze/ wool felted scarves at a recent craft fair, and I was not disappointed at all! The explanation for how this is done is easy! With some simple household items ( ie. a bar of soap!) you can create some amazing gifts. For those of us who love felt but don't knit that great, and want the quickest and simplest way, this book will make you adept at felting!

good for students just learning about "postmodernism".......2001-06-19
This is a good anthology for those just learning about postmodernism, but it's kind of silly if you know anything about this world-o-theory; it's just excerpts from larger essays (includes works by Lyotard, Jameson, Habermas, Hassan, Crimp, Crowther, Baudrillard, Eco, Jencks, Laclau, Rorty, etc.); if you need to buy it for school (it's great for using as a teaching tool for basic intro theory sort of courses, or if you're trying to teach pomo lit and need a quick theoretical framework), go ahead, but if you want to learn about Postmodernism, go actually read the Jameson, Baudrillard, Jencks, and Lyotard and poke about online for Eco essays (a lot of this stuff is available online). The nature of this anthology is that you'll only know _about_ these theories; if you actually need/want to know what you're talking about without embarrassing yourself, read the primary sources. Of course, such could be said for most anthologies, but these particular issues are more delicately complex than they are anthologizeable.

Birds 'n Roses (Applique Masterpiece) (Paperback) .......2007-09-26
A masterpiece in writing for those who want to attempt such a project. Easy to follow and beautiful to see and read. A true artist in ink and fabric.
Incredible. . ........2007-08-29
This book has so many beautiful pictures and ideas that I was overwhelmed at first. I'm not quite ready to
tackle these projects but I know I'll be able to use some of the ideas and techniques in it.
Simply must have this one if their needlecraft reference collections are to be considered comprehensive or complete........2007-02-06
Real flowers and birds from an award-winning quilt are presented in a survey of how a masterpiece was created - and how any applique method can duplicate it. Full-sized patterns are provided for all elements of the quilt, providing keys to success not just for reproducing this winner, but for blending into independent projects. It's these elements which make BIRDS N ROSES by needlecraft expert Margaret Docherty an exceptional pick for any experienced quilter who likes to use applique as more of a central theme than a side embellishment: Personal, professional, and community library libraries simply must have this one if their needlecraft reference collections are to be considered comprehensive or complete.

This is a beautiful book with lovely pictures and instructions by an award winning quilt artist. I saw this quilt at the International Quilt Festival in Houston and this book presents the quilt excellently.

Applique Masterpiece Little Brown Bird Patterns: Little Brown Bird Patterns .......2007-09-26
A wonderful book with patterns, conversation, and instructions. A delight for everyone who loves applique either in large or smaller projects. Highly recommend.
High quality.......2007-09-03
This quilting book provides great illustrations
and complete instructions. I am looking forward
to making some of the blocks using the colors
that are suggested.
Eye candy and inspiration for years to come.......2007-07-08
Plan on taking this book off of the shelf whenever you want a little inspiration for another quilt. This quilt is truly an heirloom - not one you're going to sleep under. The quilt itself will take your breath away and, hopefully, you'll be inspired to try some of the techniques, even if you aren't as ambitious as Docherty is. I went right out and bought some new fat quarters of fabric that I thought might do for some of the squares, using her approach to choosing fabric, and will start small, with only one block. Her innotative techniques and exquisite results make her both an artist and a skilled artisan. Her writing style make her an excellent teacher. Don't pass this one by.
applique, quilting.......2007-02-18
If you want to take embellishment over the top, this is for you. Excellent source of inspiration for applique that is so special. Highly recommend.
Little Brown Bird.......2006-07-02
The book is a wonderfully designed pattern for hand applique. The entire book is devoted to the creation of one design masterpiece featuring many squares of wreaths, flowers, half square borders and birds. The overall border is exquisite and intricate. The author's patterns and directions are excellent and easy to follow. She includes a chapter on how to select fabrics to create the shadings of flowers and birds without ever being a bird or flower fabric. She teaches what to look for. The only changes I comtemplate making are redesigning some of the birds.

Book Description
In a remote canyon in northern New Mexico the early morning stillness is broken by voices chanting praises to the Lord. And thus begins the daily cycle in the Godcentered life and search of the Benedictine monks at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert.Seeking God is a monastic tapestry. The daily life of the monks is interwoven with the seasonal changes and celebrations and the candid words of the monks as they speak of their life their hopes and doubts their hardships fears and joys their prayer. Weaving this tapestry together are the hauntingly beautiful chants songs of praise and reverence that echo through the darkness before dawn throughout the day through the solemnity of Vespers in the evening and Compline at night. The majestic beauty of the environment captured in every season reflects a peace and tranquility that becomes an integral part of this monastic tapestry. The high red rock walls of the canyon where eagles fly cradle the valley whose stillness is broken only by the flowing waters of the Chama River and the winds that occasionally funnel through. Seeking God presents the ongoing process of the monastic way through the words and activities of these Benedictine monks as they move through the day and through the seasons in their search for God through prayer work study and song.

New means of negotiating found but basics are not adressed.......2006-06-28
I originally purchased this book with a feeling that it would help me become a better negotiator and that it would have some steps that outline effective negotiating strategies. After reading the book I was left with a sense of disappointment because the only thing that I can appreciate from this book is the author's focus on "negotiating context" which is what this book should have been called. It seems that explaining and understanding what "context" is , was the focus of this book. Basic negotiations are not really covered in this book if at all, at least not to the extent that a novice such as myself can use. Not a good book for a novice negotiator. In the end you get what you pay for here. THE BOOK COSTS $5. THE END.
