Book Description
An autobiography of one of the world's leading book restorers, binding scholars and international lecturers on bookbinding techniques. Originally published by Henry Morris at the renowned Bird & Bull Press, the author has expanded the text and added many illustrations of his most inspired bindings. In this new edition over eighty of his bindings are illustrated, forty-six in full color.
This important work is not only Mr. Middleton's personal story but also a well-documented and illustrated insight into Britian's indentured apprenticeship programs of the early 20th century. In this very warm story we follow the gangly teenager into England's strict trade schools system, through his apprenticeship, his military service during the war, to his first position at the bindery of The British Library. Each chapter is well illustrated as the young binder becomes manager at the famed Zaehnsdorf's and sets the foundation of his own business as one of the world's foremost book restorers.
Co-published with The British Library

Book Description
Inspired by the true life experiences of Henry Winkler, whose undiagnosed dyslexia made him a classic childhood underachiever, the Hank Zipzer series is about the high-spirited and funny adventures of a boy with learning differences.
PS 87 is having multicultural week, and Ms. Adolf's class is putting on a "Foods From Around the World" luncheon. Hank makes enchiladas, and at the luncheon, Ms. Adolf piles her plate with lots of food. But after a few bites, her face turns bright red-one of the dishes is super-spicy! Ms. Adolf accuses someone of playing a mean practical joke and punishes the entire class with no recess until the guilty party comes forward. Hank realizes his trouble with numbers might have caused the problem-what if he accidentally used three cups of peppers instead of 1/3 cup? Will Hank be able to get recess back for everyone without getting detention for the rest of his life?
Illustrated by Carol Heyer.

First book my dyslexic 11-year old son has read by himself.......2004-02-05
My son and I have read the first 3 books in the Hank Zipzer series together. We enjoyed each one, especially the underlying theme of hope for children who learn differently. This fourth book, was the turning point where my son actually is reading the book alone. If I could contact Mr. Winkler I would like to thank him for being such a great role model for kids who are bright and creative but have difficulties in areas that the rest of us take for granted. The print is large and the vocabulary is not overwhelming yet the stories are fun and meaningful for the tween age group. We can't wait for the 5th book to come out in May 2004.

Heart of True Champion On and Off the Links.......2001-06-19
Determination and trust in himself and now God make Zinger one of the most popular players.
So good to now see him contend like he just did at 2001 U.S. Open. He is gritty player who toughs it out on the course and as he so exemplary demonstrates here in his early PGA career and his bout with shoulder cancer.
Love the story about his hitting 3-irons over the motel from the asphalt parking lot. That's got to be a swing that can be trusted.
His anguish and yet peace with death of Payne is still treasured memory of all of us who love this game. Zinger is a winner if he never wins again. But I'm convinced that will not be the case.
Great read worth your pursuit. Lessons to be gleaned.

Book Description
The Mammoth Book of Zingers, Quips, and One-Liners contains the ultimate, most comprehensive compendium of humor ever compiled. From shaggy-dog stories to jokes for roasts and toasts, virtually every form of verbal humor on a whole raft of topics is represented in this not totally politically correct—but always diverting—collection of ticklers and howlers for any occasion. Humorous quotations, epigrams and epitaphs, limericks, and puns also appear among the volume’s thousands of entries categorized by topic. This format makes the book an easily accessible as well as invaluable companion to speechmakers for events great and small—meeting the needs of both the maiden aunt looking for a wholesome joke to relate at a golden wedding anniversary and the best man who needs a blue one for the bachelor party. Providing more than 10,000 choices, this mammoth book even offers would-be wolves on the prowl pick-up lines—at the same time that it offers some snappy comebacks and a few ribald ripostes for the reluctant or disinterested prey.

Lots of fun.......2007-07-22
Arranged by category. Keep one in the bathroom for light reading, or use it to find the perfect anecdote to lighten up that after-dinner talk.
Book Description
In her wittiest and most insightful book yet, best-selling author, commentator, and lecturer Jennifer James provides us with the tools we need to defend ourselves from-and laugh at-the absurd and harmful things we say to each other. She shows us the difference between "constructive" criticism and real encouragement, and tells how we can break the cycle of being critical of ourselves, our children, relatives, friends, colleagues, and strangers. She gives us a way to handle the relative who zaps us with a "that's a great looking dress, dear, too bad they didn't have your size." Or the co-worker who says, "I really admire your doing the kind of work you do. My pride would get in the way." Filled with nitty-gritty advice for both the giver and getter of criticism, James handily confronts the reality that we are part of a cultural tradition that constantly hands out verbal slugs to people. Her book helps us to develop the skills to evaluate and dispose of those critical remarks that can hurt us so unnecessarily, reminding us at all times that one of the best weapons against criticism is a sense of humor.
Book Description
You Can Quote Me On That isn’t about the polite, country-club sport where players shake hands over the net and offer congratulations on a fine drop shot. It views tennis from inside, where competition is grueling, tempers flare, and egos collide. Top tennis journalist Paul Fein has compiled hundreds of the most outrageous, most significant, and most illuminating quotes on, by, and about tennis’s biggest stars and hottest controversies.
You want smack talk? How about Maria Sharapova brushing aside an intended compliment with “I’m not the next Kournikova—I want to win matches!” Wonder why Jimmy Connors was such a cutthroat? According to his mother, “Jimmy was taught to be a tiger on the court. When he was young, if I had a shot I could hit down his throat, I did. And I’d say, ‘See, Jimmy, even your mother will do that to you.’” Fein even delves into the gritty detail of players’ personal lives. Witness Andre Agassi’s explanation that “sex doesn’t interfere with your tennis; it’s staying out all night trying to find it that affects your tennis.” And of course legendary bad boy John McEnroe both fires off and gets hits with multiple zingers.
Fein includes quotes of praise, thoughtful commentary, and interesting points about players, tournaments, and the game—where it’s been and where it’s headed. If it’s about tennis and worth remembering, well, You Can Quote Me On That.
Customer Reviews:
Tennis History and Wisdom in a Fun-filled Package.......2007-02-04
Paul Fein's "You Can Quote Me On That" isn't a classic page-turner, full of mystery, plot and intrigue. It's just what it sounds like--a collection of quotes about tennis.
Although it consists of 35 chapters, a necessity for organizing the vast material, I still found it difficult to stop when reaching a chapter's conclusion.
Under the chapter entitled "The Feminine Mystique" for example, Fein ends with a quote from Anna Kournikova saying:
"You cannot just be a great tennis player, or just be a beautiful person anymore to succeed in the game. You have to have it all, the talent, the looks, the brains and the drive."
The next chapter, "Paeans To the Champions", starts with this praise for Pete Sampras from Jim Courier:
"He can hit shots the rest of us can't hit and don't even think of hitting."
And then continues as Becker, Agassi, McEnroe and Emerson assess Pete's standing in the tennis pantheon.
What makes the book more than a sum of its considerable parts is the sense of history that pervades it. Nineteen twenties star Bill Tilden, who wrote several books on tennis, is quoted regularly, and we hear from Jack Kramer on early professional men's tennis, Bille Jean King on the struggles of the women's tour, Arthur Ashe on the class and race barriers, Martina Navratilova on sexual orientation. Not to mention Gussie Moran's panties and Suzanne Lenglen's rock star status in the 20s.
It?s a whirlwind tour of tennis history in doses as small or large as you like and it's also a reminder that the more tennis changes, the more it stays the same.
I'll close with two of my favorite quotes:
"Under these absurd and antiquated amateur rules, only a wealthy person can compete, and the fact of the matter is that only wealthy people do compete. Is that fair? Does it advance the sport? Does it makes tennis more popular? or does it tend to suppress and hinder an enormous amount of tennis talent lying dormant in the bodies of young men and women whose names are not in the social register."
and
"Certainly there does not appear to be anything much wrong with the game of tennis itself, although proposals for changing it always are with us. There has been little change since the rules were settled upon and possibly improvement can be had by changing some rules, but a game so stylized as tennis should be treated with great restraint. One of the things wrong may be that so many people keep trying to alter it to suit other people who do not really play it."
The first quote is from Suzanne Lenglen, circa 1920s; the second from Al Laney in 1968.
Paul Fein Quips, Quotes and Zings His Way To A Great Book.......2006-12-12
This is one great book! Paul Fein's You Can Quote Me On That: Greatest Tennis Quips, Insights And Zingers is one of the most unique tennis books ever published. Why? It's virtually the tennis Smithsonian of insights into the minds of players, coaches, officials, the media, administrators, the intelligencia and others from the world of tennis.
Want to know what your favorite tennis star is thinking about on and off the court? It's here. Want to know what the media think about the players? Check it out. Want to know what the tennis world is talking about? Read on.
I was really excited to get my copy because as Founder and President of the International Mental Game Coaching Association (IMGCA), I am always searching for new quotes on sports psychology that I can put in our members articles, training programs and our IMGCA Certification programs.
This book is loaded with 1700 quotes ranging over 35 chapters from tennis stars, legends, champions, celebrities, also-rans and the rest of the world's tennis denizens.
Try finding all these quotes yourself, from the hundreds of sources that Paul used in constructing this masterpiece. You would have to work for years to capture all the wonderful tennis quotes in this compendium. Come to think of it, that's probably exactly what Paul did in writing this book!
You Can Quote Me On That is the perfect gift for the tennis lovers in your life.
Tons of entertaining quotes from tennis greats!.......2006-03-08
You Can Quote me on That by Paul Fein is loaded with entertaining quotes from all the great tennis players, many of their coaches, their families, and even other celebrities. From the Foreword by Billie Jean King in which she states " No one and nothing is spared", to the 35 chapters dealing with various topics such as #6.-The Fame Game, and #15. - You've Come A Long Way, Baby!, I was hooked. The quotes are quick and easy to read, with remarkable documentation of who said what to whom and when. I especially liked the nasty comments between John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl--i.e. "I've got more talent in my pinkie than Lendl has in his whole body."--John McEnroe.(so politically incorrect these days!). Arthur Ashe's 1970 quote that "Women's tennis won't draw flies.", couldn't have been more wrong, surprisingly coming from one of the greatest endorsers of the game. But my favorite quote, coming from Martina Hingis is "I like everything about tennis; the games, the courts, the competition, and doing everything you can to win. It's such a beautiful sport." Anyone who enjoys playing tennis, watching tennis, or hearing about the good and bad boys and girls of tennis will truly enjoy this book.
That's Entertainment!.......2006-01-03
Paul's books never disappoint! The inside information, entertaining anecdotes and insights which his books provide make them a must read for every tennis fan and player. His books make a great gift for every tennis lover.
A book you will enjoy a lot.......2005-11-20
In the foreword, Billie Jean King writes, "You Can Quote Me on That" contains hundreds of funny, informative, and provocative quotes by and about present and past stars on 35 different topics. No one and nothing is spared." I agree completely! I'm a big tennis fan, and I had never heard or read 80 percent of these quotes before.
For example in "The Fame Game" chapter, I loved Patrick Rafter's quote on the paradox of fame -- "When you haven't got it, you really want it; when you have it, you really don't want it." In "The Ego Has Landed" chapter, the late Vitas Gerulaitis, a legendary playboy, bragged, "If I did as well on the court as I do off the court, I'd be No. 1 by now." Talk about bad predictions. After 17-year-old Chrissie Evert reached the 1972 U.S. Open semifinals, Billie Jean King criticized her two-handed backhand, saying "It shouldn't be taught to kids. The trouble with it is that it establishes a weakness." Hey, tell that to Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Monica Seles and Andre Agassi.
This is definitely a fascinating book. Get it for yourself and your tennis friends. They'll really appreciate it.

"I DRINK TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE INTERESTING".......2003-01-02
You will have heard some of these quips before but there are enough little known comments here to make you laugh out loud many times. If you like comments such as: "I'm not upset about my divorce from Tom Arnold. I'm only upset I'm not a widow" (Rosanne Barr about her former husband) or "They didn't release the movie; it escaped" (Sam Goldwyn) or "The T is silent, as in Harlow" said by Margot Asquith, wife of the British Prime Minister, when Jean Harlow mispernounced Asquith's first name or Oscar Levant on Phyllis Diller "I treasure every moment I do not see her" you will like this slim but amusing book.
Equally amusing is Groucho Marx's series of letters to Warner Brother (producers of the movie Casablanca) attorneys regarding his intent to name a movie A Night In Casablanca.
