Excellent Take Along Book for Holy Land Tour.......2007-09-26
This is a MUST HAVE with you when you tour the Holy Land..either by yourself or with a group. Keep the book with you as you travel the Holy Land. In it the author tells you a short historical description and more importantly gives you Bible verses where it is mentioned in the Bible so that you can really get into the meaning and feelings of the Holy Land. The book is set up in alphabetical order by the name of the locations... very easy to follow and locate your area. I highly recommend this book as a carry along book on your trip to the Holy Land. It will add more meaning and insight into the experience.
Not helpful for guided tours.......2007-02-04
I recently returned from a trip to Israel and I had purchased this book before the trip as a guide. I never opened the book even once 1) because we had an excellent tour guide, and 2) because it includes way more places than what is necessary. The information in the book is quality but if you are going with a tour I wouldn't bother with it. If you are exploring on your own I would recommend it. I would like to see maps in this book to show where these locations are and perhaps organized by region rather than just alphabetically. If you want a great resource to take with you purchase the "DK Eyewitness Guide of Jerusalem and the Holy Land." I thoroughty enjoyed it.
A must have for pilgrim travel to Israel.......2005-08-16
This is a wonderful little book that contains scriptural references for virtually all of the traditional Christian sites in Israel. It is invaluable to take along when viewing the various religious sites so that their biblical mention can be easily found and read. When I lead tours to the Holy Land, this book is one of three that I advise visitors to consider taking with them (the others are, "Holy Land" by Jerome Murphy-O'Connor, and "The Millennium Guide for Pilgrims to the Holy Land", by James H. Charlesworth.
AN OUTSTANDING WORK.......2000-06-19
As a traveller to the land of Israel twelve times I have been privileged to see first rate the expertise that went into the pages of this book and I have had many positve comments from those I have shared the book with. A preacher's son describes the part on the "Ark of The Covenant" as an exceptional writing done by an expert in her field. The book is a must for anyone going to the Holyland.
Great Guide.......2000-01-18
This is a handy little guide book that could travel with you as you visit the sites mentioned. It lists the history of each place and other interesting facts. It has several useful lists of information at the back of the book. Mrs. Crown-Tamir knows her stuff and has put together a useful, inexpensive guide. I found myself wishing for a large foldout map to see all the places named, however that would probably make the book too expensive.
Book Description
No one can be like Jesus yet we can all be like Jesus. In all of history there has never been--and never will be--anyone like Him. In this extraordinary book, devout Christian and internationally acclaimed speaker, author and sports executive Pat Williams reveals the pure essence of Jesus. Although Christianity teaches that Jesus is God, most people lose sight of His humanity. Through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Williams helps us understand who Jesus really was--His mind, His wisdom, His love, His humility, His courage and His goodness. The story of Jesus' life is told powerfully and dramatically and the meaning of his teachings is compellingly brought home through contemporary stories of people who exemplify what it means to be like Jesus. The Jesus of this book is truly the Jesus who lived and identified with us and with whom we also can identify. Williams provides persuasive and provocative insight on how to truly be like Jesus through His teachings and this living example of genuine love, forgiveness, prayer, obedience, service, humility, integrity, leadership, and more. This uncomplicated and fascinating work will enable readers to learn from Jesus' life, understand his words and build his traits and character qualities into their lives. The quintessential book on how to live a better life and create a positive and lasting effect on the lives of others, How to be Like Jesus may be the discovery of a lifetime.

This will make any serious christian's library. Pat Williams really hit the jackpot here. Peaple will demand this book hard-backed and translated into other languages. BRAVO!
AWESOME ! A LIFE CHANGER ! MUST READ !.......2003-05-29
How to Be Like Jesus: Lessons on Following in His Footsteps is one the the BEST books I have ever read. I have never read this Author before, but came across this book in my local Target store. I loved it so much, I bought another copy and gave it to my friend as a gift!
In this book, Williams and Denney capture Jesus' character in such an awesome way. It is the first book I have come across that tells us so much about Jesus' character as He walked this world. You feel what he felt, you want to love like He loves.
If you want to know Jesus, deeper and more intimately, read this book. I refer to it again and again, when I need a reminder of why I am here.
I thank the Authors for this wonderful book !

Book Review
How to Be Like Jesus
Pat Williams with Jim Denney
© Faith Communications, 2003
Have you ever read a book so profound in its message, so skillful in its delivery, that you wished you had a boxful to hand out to your friends? As an avid reader, I can think of about three that have impacted me to that extent. How to Be Like Jesus is one of them.
No matter what church you attend or belief you adhere to, if you're honest you'll admit that Jesus Christ was not only a real person, but the most influential person in history. Some believe he was a great teacher and philosopher, while others believe he was who he claimed to be - God in human flesh, come to seek and save the lost. If you are of the former persuasion, this book will challenge you to consider his claims, based on evidence from his life and the lives of those he has impacted.
No one, the authors remind us, has ever had his impact on history or society. In pointing out that uniqueness Pat Williams and Jim Denney admit that no one can be like Jesus. So why read further? Certainly because it is so engagingly well written, but also because of the next line: "...yet we all should be like Jesus. It's a paradox - a deep truth wrapped in a contradiction." I don't know about you, but a mysterious statement like that makes me want to know more!
In the pages that follow, the authors skillfully unwrap this deep truth by offering concrete examples from the life of this remarkable man, Jesus Christ. Beginning with "How to Have Integrity Like Jesus," readers are transported in a time machine of words back to the Jerusalem of Jesus, accompanying him from Nazareth to the Cross of Calvary. And as we walk alongside him, we see him brought to flesh-and-blood life through fresh, practical lessons in character development.
Concluding with the facts of his own life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ, Pat Williams invites you to discover for yourself that fear, pain, grief - even death itself - can be conquered if you will dare to be like Jesus.
How to Be Like Jesus is a book for everyone who desires a life of purpose and victory. What a different world this would be if we all wanted to be like Jesus!

Joy!.......2007-02-19
What a joy to read the book and be given the idea that Jesus was joyful and loving, not like other Hollywood movies where Jesus never blinks and is very pious. This Jesus character related to the people he was here to save. Loved the book and the movie-which is word for word the Gospel of Matthew.
Inspiring!.......2007-01-26
I bought this book for my book club. We usually read fiction but I had read this and wanted them to read it too. They loved it. The experience the author has as he plays Jesus, along with the cast and crew in making this move Matthew is truly amazing. The way they depict Jesus in the movie this book is about, is more like I like to think of who Jesus is and what he was like while he was here on earth. Truly inspiring!
The Lord strengthened my faith after I read "In the Footsteps of Jesus" by Bruce Marchiano. .......2007-01-04
It was an encouragement to me to read Bruce Marchiano's testimony about his amazing journey of following Christ and his life changing experience of portraying Jesus in the film "The Gospel according to Matthew". I enjoyed reading every page of this book because the love of Jesus flows through it.
I recommend this book to everyone, especially those who loved Bruce Marchiano's presentation of the joyful Jesus in the film "The Gospel according to Matthew". After I read "In the Footsteps of Jesus", I had to watch the film "The Gospel according to Matthew" again and again. In my opinion, it is the best Jesus film I have ever seen! Check out the plans for Bruce's new film "The Gospel according to John".
Remarkable! Bruce Marchiano's Journey is Absolutely Awesome!.......2006-11-03
In a book that chronicles one man's journey to discover the joy of Jesus, Bruce Marchiano blesses us with the joy of sharing in his personal journey. The reader walks along with Marchiano as he explores the Jesus that we all seek to know. We experience Marchiano's drawing closer to Jesus as his walk and journey unfold before us in every chapter. I would certainly recommend reading this book and then, view the `Matthew' movie, and come to know the full joy of Jesus as I did! Marchiano shares with the reader his discovery of Jesus as a touchable, loveable human who laughed and smiled and wept...who just simply loves each of us so very much! An amazing story of how the lives of Marchiano and of those involved with the film were touched by Jesus! I recently discovered that Bruce Marchiano has launched a mission to raise funds to put the Gospel of John on film! Anyone interested should check the web under Marchiano Ministries for details! Many thanks to Bruce Marchiano for inviting us join him in this new vision and for bringing us along in his journey thus far. In doing so, he brings us all closer to our Jesus that we seek to know so intimately!
In the Footsteps of the actor.......2003-12-07
The best portrayal of Jesus in any film was Robert Powell in the 1977 mimi series, "Jesus of Nazareth".. I thought Marchiano was waaaay over the top and that his performance fell more in the category of amateur. That being said, I thought the book was somewhat insightful but as I read on it kept reminding me that it was more about walking in the footsteps of Mr. Marchiano rather than Jesus. Not recommended
Book Description
All Christians face the challenges of discipleship, and all feel, one time another, that they have fallen short. Focusing on New Testament stories about the Apostle Peter, pastor Scott Walker asks: How does Peter's predicament apply to my life? What can I learn through Peter's experience that will make me a better Christian disciple? In his gentle, thoughtful style, Walker illuminates the theme that it is only through struggle and personal failure that we grow stronger in our faith and in our understanding of Jesus.

You see the real Peter.......2007-06-01
I was very impressed with this book. Good scholarship,in depth thinking but at the same time it made Peter seem like a real person, with lots of the authors own experinces (or other people he knew) included. I was disappointed that there was not more material included on Pentecost and the remarkable sermon Peter preached after Pentecost. Other wise, a great book!

A Picture Book with text of places sacred to Latter-day Saints.......2006-02-04
This is a book of wonderful pictures of places where events sacred to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took place. Most of them are pictures of scenes in nature because so much occurred out of doors. The saints moved so often from place to place that many of the revelations and events happened before they could build.
Of course, the title has a triple meaning. It is referring to the events in Joseph's life as a testimony to the light of God from the First Vision, to Moroni, to the translation of the Book of Mormon on through to his martyrdom. It is also the witness of these places photographed. They bear testimony of the faith of Joseph and the early Saints in God and the revelations they had received. These places remain and we visit them because they connect us to those who founded our faith in obedience to God's commands to them. It also refers to the author and photographer as a witness of the things he photographed and wrote about.
We see the Sacred Grove where Joseph received the First Vision, the Susquehanna River where the Aaronic Priesthood was restored and the first baptisms took place, the quarry where the saints cut stone for the Kirtland Temple, and many others.
Some of the original buildings are featured such as the Kirtland Temple, the foundation stones and base of the circular staircase for the Nauvoo Temple, the jail at Carthage where Joseph and Hyrum were martyred, and a few others. The rest of the buildings are part of the restoration projects the Church and the Saints have been undertaking for decades. Since this book was published in 1991 further restoration has taken place. The most obvious is the rebuilding of the Nauvoo Temple that has covered the foundation pictured in this book and made the photos of the model of the temple obsolete. The Church has restored many other places that were not in this book such as the smaller home the Smiths lived in at the time of the First Vision and when Moroni first visited Joseph. I am not sure if the dungeon in the Carthage Jail was restored at the time of this book, but it is not shown.
Another interesting aspect of this book is that the words illustrate the photos rather than the usual way of providing photos to illustrate the text. The text contains the authors views of the sites and the well known stories of the Restoration. There is no ground breaking research here. However, the pictures are beautiful and represent the sites shown quite well.
A pretty good book for viewing with the family and for sparking conversation with nonmember friends.

Great gift idea for Christian friends who speak Spanish.......2000-07-01
I do volunteer work in Guatemala and have been looking for a book that I can give my Christian friends as a "thank you" for their kindness! This book is perfect! The pictures are beautiful and each is paired with a scripture that is meaningful. I am returning to Guatemala in late July and I can't wait to see their reaction to this wonderful book. You should include this book in the spirituality section so that no one misses it!
Book Description
Because Jesus entered our world in the human condition, our faith has deep roots in the physical places where he was born, walked and talked, laughed and wept, where he suffered, died, and rose again. Though a bodily pilgrimage to the Holy Land may not be possible for many, this imaginative pilgrimage unites these hallowed places with the sacred texts associated with the life of Jesus. This geography of salvation can fill out the written gospels with tangible reality. Here we can imagine Jesus with his disciples along the lake, teaching on the mountainside, praying in the garden, and dying on the cross.

Who Knew? Armchair Guide to Jesus' Travels.......2004-08-09
Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of Jesus is the second title in the Threshold Bible Study program developed by the editor of God's Word Today.
It takes readers to 30 sites from the life of Jesus. Black and white photos and maps of the region are included. Each session is divided into six, 3-page lessons consisting of a passage from scripture, history of the site, reflection questions, and a prayer.
For example, Session 3 covers the Jordan River, Cana, Capernaum (the synagogue and Peter's house), the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes, and the Mount of Beatitudes. The lesson on Peter's house in Capernaum begins with readings from Mark (1:29-34, in which Peter's mother-in-law is cured of a fever and 2:1-12 in which the paralyzed man is lowered through the roof).
We are introduced to the site as it is today: "A short distance from the synagogue are the remains of Peter's house... it had one large room, measuring about 20 feet by 20 feet, and several smaller rooms" with walls of black basalt stones and a roof of clay and straw. In the next paragraph we "see" Jesus in this place he called home, and are given more scripture references to fill out the picture. Next we learn that Peter's house was a gathering place for early Christians and, in the second half of the first century, the walls and ceilings of the large room were plastered to create a church.
The author briefly describes further changes to the building in the fifth century and closes by describing the scene today, in which a modern church is built on pillars over the ruins. In the center of the church, a glass floor allows visitors to look into the excavations below and stand directly above the place Jesus called home.
The reflection/discussion questions deal with what is sacred about the place we call home and ways in which we can bring others to Jesus as townspeople brought the paralyzed man to Jesus at Peter's house.

Since Yao Ming's electrifying NBA debut with the Houston Rockets in 2002, the 7-foot-5 Chinese center has appeared in numerous TV commercials, on magazine covers, and in countless basketball-highlights reels. And yet, despite Yao's status as one of the country's most recognizable sports stars, the remarkable story of how a shy, gangly kid from Shanghai went on to become the NBA's first foreign-born and developed #1 draft pick has remained, until now, largely unknown. With this memoir, Yao reveals himself as a thoughtful, opinionated young man whose insights extend far beyond the basketball court. He paints a compelling portrait of how his parents, both former Chinese basketball stars and fully aware of the bleak outlook for ex-players, resisted the Chinese government's interest in steering their son into the sport as a child. But the love of the game took hold of Yao as a teenager, and he began to sense both his own potential and the restraints he would face from the bureaucrats who ran the sport. As Yao's success in China grew, it became clear that his future would be with the NBA. But nothing came easily. With riveting detail, Yao recounts the white-knuckle gamesmanship required to win the approval of Chinese officials for his leap to America.Yao: A Life in Two Worlds vividly chronicles Yao's move from Shanghai to Houston: The sudden millionaire has to learn to drive his newly acquired car; the young man who has only ever had one girlfriend tries to make sense of pro-basketball's hard-partying life off-court; the supremely dominant player in China is transformed into a NBA rookie unnerved at the prospect of facing Shaquille O'Neal. But soon enough, aided by his easygoing manner and sense of humor that has proved so appealing to fans, Yao finds his moorings and flourishes as a major NBA star with a worldwide following.Sports writer Ric Bucherspent hundreds of hours in conversation with Yao in the U.S. and China, closely tracking the player's feelings and observations during that historic first season with the Rockets. Yao: A Life in Two Worlds is an inspiring account of how one man's faith in himself, hard work, and drive have taken him from national success story to international icon#151;and helped build a bridge between two countries.
Customer Reviews:
Poorly written book offers very little value.......2006-10-27
A good biography teaches you something not just about the subject of the book but about life itself. Yao Ming's book not only fails to do this but its narrative style is such that the reader is concurrently bored and frustrated whilst trying to reach the end of this rather dull tale.
Yao wrote his autobiography at too early a stage in his career. True character is forged through adversity and at twenty five years of age, Yao simply hasn't had any opportunity to undergo the proverbial trial by fire. Yao omits to mention or only tangentially scratches upon many of the issues that I would consider interesting. How does he deal with the sudden influx of new "friends"? What discrimination, blatant or otherwise, does a 7"5' Chinese man face when stepping out from mainland China into one of the hubs of the Anglosphere? How does his relationship change with his childhood friends and the people that he has grown up with? Although it may appeal to avid basketball fans, my appraisal of the content of the book is that it lacks anything of real substance.
Sadly the structure and narrative of the book fare no better. The book was co-authored with Ric Bucher, who endeavours to maintain as much of the authentic "Yao flavour" as possible. He succeeds in this venture too well and much of the books is written in simple, boring and pedestrian English presumably because this is the way that Yao himself speaks. The book is laced with commentary from key members of Team Yao and this is confusing because the reader has to constantly refer to the "Cast of Characters" in order to place a context around what is being said.
I cannot recommend this book to anyone other than the most devoted Yao Ming acolyte and even then the reading would be for duty rather than for pleasure.
Good Entertainment for a Yao Fan.......2006-08-03
This book includes many interesting stories and facts that fans will definitely enjoy about the Chinese sports hero. It alludes to Yao's experiences back in China as it shows how he learned to adjust to a life as an NBA All-star. The book is informative and entertaining while it keeps one in constant exclamation over Yao's height, sizes, dreams, and experiences.
The physical book itself provides a good read with its medium size and clear print. Yao's stardom also makes the book a worthwhile collector's item.
If you are not much of a Yao Ming fan, however, you will probably not enjoy this book. It talks about him almost exclusively, and glimpses into Chinese basketball and cross-cultural struggles are given only from his perspective. Still, if you are collecting athlete biographies, this is not one to overlook.
An Entertaining and Informative Read .......2006-05-24
The Houston Rockets spent the 2001 season's number one draft pick on Yao, a seven-foot, five-inch center from Shanghai, China. Yao's journey to the NBA has been chronicled in his autobiography, "Yao Ming: A Life In Two Worlds". He has proven to be a marketing goldmine for the profit-driven NBA. Yao appeared in a nationally televised Apple Macintosh Computer commercial (alongside the ubiquitous Verne Troyer, "Mini-Me" from Austin Powers) and being billed alternatively as the "Ming Dynasty" or the "Ming Emperor." Ticket sales and merchandising increase dramatically for Houston, trends that began before Yao had ever played a minute in the NBA. On the court, as well, he has made a huge contribution to his franchise. Ed Derse in a January 16, 2003 radio broadcast for American public media stated that "The Rockets, who finished in 2001 near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, now contend for a playoff spot in the ultra-competitive west."
Yao's commercial success and basketball skills signal the dawn of a new era in the NBA game. While the league has historically had some international flavor (Nigerian Hakeem Olajuwon, Lithuanian Arvydas Sabonis, and Sudanese Manute Bol being members of the old guard of international competitors in the NBA), the American game is now reaching new heights of global exposure and global presence. Truly, these trends are complimentary in nature. As the NBA acquires more international talent, global citizens from regions that nurtured this new NBA talent become ardent fans and supporters of a specific NBA franchise or simply of the NBA in general. Jon L. Wertheim wrote in a piece for "Sports Illustrated" that these fans buy merchandise, tickets, and a portion of American culture all at the same time." They often go to great lengths to show support for their hometown heroes. The NBA reaches new heights in the era of radio, television, and Internet exposure. "Yao Ming: A Life In Two Worlds" is a first hand account of the ongoing globalization of the NBA.
Excellent Book. A+!.......2005-02-28
Great book to know more about the history of Yao and his roots. Highly recommend.
