Book Description
This practical and inspiring book for general readers reminds us that the little things we do count, and offers concrete suggestions for small ways of making a difference. Says the author, "I always run into people who have the 'well-what-could-I-do?' attitude. But small things really do make a difference. The longer I live the more I realize that the small things really are the big things in the long run."

Q&S Irish, a stand-alone 8-lesson, 4 hours, audio-only, effective language learning with real-life spoken practice sessions.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent--for what it is........2007-09-10
Keeping in mind it is a SHORT course, and getting pronuciation out of a book is dead hard.
As for no book, I'm a visual artist and a visual learner. I was attracted to the course because I saw it as a way of stimulateing my verbal center. And, given Irish spelling is nothing but grief to the begining English student, I'm thankful a sound only course is available. I ran into a bit of trouble in lesson 4, then I broke through something and it just started tp work. I learned more Irish in a month than I ever had with the more comprehesive, but clumsy "Learning Irish" which I've owned for 10 years!
Mind, I'm illiterate now... ;-)
My only real complaint is there doesn't seem to be a Pimsleur Irish course as complete as the French or German ones.
Cheers all for the warning that it is mainly Munster dialect.
Great to Start.......2007-08-18
The hardest part about learning Irish has got to be reading the stuff and turning it in to language. It's a difficult thing for us USA people (the other nations can answer for themselves) to understand how "Gabh: is pronounced "Ga" or "maith" is pronounced "mah". Trying to learn Irish out of a book can be frustrating! To hear someone talk the language and learn what it means is a great way to start. This will of course only impel one to want to more and then understand the written word as well. But in reality, the masses spoke only the language for generations, never learning to read or write, and this is how they did it; by listening and speaking. Obviously you will not learn how to speak and understand the entire language of Irish from these lessons. But if you just want a taste, someplace to get started, then I can recommend this. I can also recommend you to visit gaeilge org web site where the written transcript for this program can be found. It can really help in understanding the written word. (But don't worry about it until you've been through at least two or three lessons.) slán!
Irish and roots family.......2007-05-19
People who wants to learn speak irish, normaly, like me, begin this adventuyre just for be close to the roots family questions. In this case, the work for learning its hardest because the course is some bored. Just two persons speaking whithout music, without a great history. The material it is good but would be funny for better learning.
Needs other support.......2006-11-10
Good product to help learn the dialect, but needs other learning support. The audio words are sometimes hard to distinguish certain letter sounds.
A foundation for the study of the language.......2006-08-19
I love this series. It is by no means a comprehensive coverage of the language and the recordings are made by natives with a southern Irish dialect, but I've found it to be a great starting place for a more intensive study. People all learn differently. It's been great for me to get the sound of Irish in my mind before beginning the book learning of grammer and vocabulary. I am fortunate to have a fluent teacher that I meet with every couple of weeks and he is very impressed with my pronunciation. I attribute that to studying with this series.

Excellent insight into the nuances of GM design.......1999-10-16
This book rewards repeated reading. The interviews with GM designers such as Bill Mitchell and Bill Porter are encrusted with myriad design nuggets. In particular, Armi's analysis of Bill Porter's work, and the interview with this senior GM designer show a depth of understanding not normally associated with auto design. Porter's language shows the way towards are more mature and reasoned approach to the art of car design and the methods and techniques to achieve the desired end. Anyone fascinated with the sludge years (the early to mid eighties) at GM will also come away enlightened. Of course, to enjoy this book, a professional interest in car design is a help, but especially for students, this book is a must.
Not quite everything you want to know about car design........1999-03-09
This book should have been better. Though the author doesn't seem to know it, his perspective is overly slanted to GM/ Harley Earl mindset. The writing itself will only hokd the interest of the most dedicated, and GM fixated readers. If you're looking for solid info on Ford designtriumphs--the '60 Lincoln Continental/ or Mark II, Mustangs, the late 60's T-Birds, you'll be disappointed. Chrysler is similarly glanced over. The interviews are good, but tighter editing would have been appreciated.

In
A Simple Celebration, Ginna Bell Bragg, chef at the Chopra Center for Well Being in La Jolla, California, and Dr. David Simon, director of clinical programs for the Center, explore the spiritual and mindful aspects of cooking and offer a practical, easy-to-use vegetarian cookbook that incorporates Ayurvedic health care principles into more than 140 delicious recipes.
While many recipes in
A Simple Celebration have a subtle Indian influence, Bragg and Simon include a variety of other cuisines as well, resulting in a balanced, health-enhancing diet. With recipes such as Warm Wild Rice Salad, Pasta with Madeira Mushroom Sauce, Ginger-Molasses Muffins, and French Apple Cake, it is clear that the ancient mind-body principles of Ayurveda can be readily applied to dishes from every culture.
Supporters of Ayurvedic health care, Bragg and Simon emphasize in
A Simple Celebration the importance of understanding one's dosha, or body type. Dosha recommendations are given for each recipe in the book, and a chart is provided that describes the taste quality of common vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, dairy products, and other foods.
From the Hardcover edition.
Customer Reviews:
A great book !.......2003-04-14
I was excited when I got my book in the mail. I esp. like the desserts and am looking forward to trying the other interest recipies.
Ayurveda? Not!.......2000-07-13
Cooked Honey! Anyone who has studied Ayurveda in the least knows that cooked honey is one of the most toxic things you can eat. Hardboiled eggs that are then fried! Ayurvedic? Gimme a break. To call this book ayurvedic is misleading. Try "Heaven's Banquet" if you want real ayurveda. If you're just looking for vegetarian recipes and will be satisfied with fifty (count 'em!), stick around.
Spiritual Food for your Body & Soul.......1999-05-25
This book is about love. As you read the descriptions of Aruvedic personality & body types, you find your perfect reflection personified. The reverence for food preparation, choice, and content provides food for thought as well as a balance for one's body. Simple dishes nourish the spirit, as do the recipes contained therein. Grace, quality, and charm are the components of a lifestyle resulting in this type of holistic cuisine. Permission to slow down, observe and savor life are granted as you experience the pages of this memorable cookbook.
GREAT and easy receipes.......1999-01-19
A book that has opened my awareness to consciously tune into not only the energy of food but to also be ever aware of the consciousness that I bring to food preparation. Great vegetarian recipes, easy to follow and so far always delicious!

Simon may be careless, but he's no simpleton. When this self-assured young boy encounters a dog, a cat, and a horse one day in the city, they challenge him to growl, stretch, and jump, in turn. No problem for this fellow. "It's simple," says Simon. But when he meets a tiger, it almost looks as though Simon has met his match. After boosting the boy's ego with greater and greater challenges, the wily feline tricks him into jumping onto his back, and away they go into the jungle. As the sun sets, Simon gets nervous. "Could you please take me home now?" he asks. "It's almost suppertime, and I'm hungry." The tiger responds ominously: "I am, too." Will our hero outfox the tiger and get home in time for supper? You know the refrain: "It's simple," says Simon.
Mary Ann Hoberman's clever story, terrific for read-aloud, has all the elements of a classic fable: a cunning, dangerous animal, an appealing, confident hero, a battle of wits, and a thoroughly satisfying conclusion. Hoberman is the author of many acclaimed books, including A House Is a House for Me and And to Think That We Thought That We'd Never Be Friends. Meilo So's stunning illustrations, created with inks and watercolors on Indian rice paper, are the perfect vehicle for Hoberman's tale. Broad, loose strokes and splashes of color belie the careful intricacy of each gorgeous image. So's exquisite watercolors can be found in several award-winning books, including Tasty Baby Belly Buttons. (Ages 4 and older) --Emilie Coulter

A Simply Terrific Read-Aloud Story.......2001-06-11
Little Simon has many talents. When asked, he can growl like a dog, stretch like a cat and jump like a horse, "It's simple," says Simon. But when he meets a wily old tiger who first, hands out the kudos to gain Simon's confidence and then tricks him into climbing onto his back, things start to look grim for our fearless hero. Will Simon be able to outsmart the tiger and save himself.....? Mary Ann Hoberman has written a delightful story that includes all the elements of a good fable, a brave hero, a dangerous animal villain and circumstances that offer a true battle of wits. Her easy to read, amusing and gentle text, with repetitious refrain, will have youngsters involved and "helping" you read in no time. Meilo So's imaginative and expressive watercolor artwork adds just the right touch and together this dynamic team have authored a picture book that's both perfect for beginning readers and a wonderful read-aloud story the whole family will enjoy.
A Simply Fun Book.......2001-04-08
Simon's adventures grow progressively more exciting and dangerous, but he eventually finds simple solutions to every problem. Children will love the refrain, "It's simple." They will also love Simon who shows wit and bravery when life gets a little scary. So's illustrations are magical but simple enough to match the tone of the story. Hoberman's text is fun to read out loud to a group. This would be a great new book for story time.

Customer Reviews:
My childhood in a nutshell..........2006-05-22
This is my favorite childhood book. Everynight before going to sleep, one of my parents would read me a story, and then pick up Simple Simon. By the time I was five, I knew the whole book by heart and you can still catch me reciting the silly little words to myself at times. I still have my original copy sitting on the mantle piece of my fireplace.
What I think I most enjoyed as a child about this book was how silly it was, but it was so captivating. The illustrations were incredible and the rhymes and the poem was such a cute story about a day in the life of Simple Simon.
I plan to make this a favorite of my children when I have them, because this book is completely unforgetable, like a teddy bear you've had forever. And it all starts with the rhyme "Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair..."
A Wonderful Bedtime Story.......2000-06-03
I have read this book over and over again to both my children over a period of almost 9 years, and it never gets stale. The artist has taken a simple nursery rhyme, and created an entire world. Each 2pp spread has both an overall beauty, and many fascinating individual elements. Many of the characters continue throughout the book, creating a fun "where's the radish on this page?" game that is more interesting than the popular "I Spy" books. I highly recommend this book for children ages 2-7.
The Adventures of Simple Simon and Others.......2000-04-26
I was introduced to this book at a workshop on post-modern picture books. After hearing a little about the book, I had to order it. This book takes the "simple" nursery rhyme of "Simple Simon" and intertwines various other nursery rhymes characters. The illustrations are wonderful and add such spice to the nursery rhyme. One must really pay attention to the pictures in order to pick up on various details. It's almost like playing "I Spy" with nursery rhyme characters. I would surely recommend this book to anyone.

Superb Compilation.......2000-06-20
A more suitable compilation than this will not be found. These three plays are arguably the essential core of the Williams canon, and certainly a great starting place for novices.
Sweey Bird of Youth is blessed with perhaps the finest epitaph ever in a modern drama, when the play's main character emanates Williams's legendary compassion with the concluding line, "all I ask is for the recognition of me in you, and time, the enemy, in us all." Shakespeare would have salivated.
Both the Rose Tattoo and Night of the Iguana exhibit Ibsen's impression upon Williams, as Williams incorporates brilliant metaphor's that wrap around both plays like knotted ribbons, but Williams's poetic language in each surpasses that of Ibsen by eons. Much in the vein of Ibsen's The Wild Duck or Chekov's The Seagull, Williams gives us a lesson in fate, freedom and human desire with his Iguana, tied to a post by a rope and struggling to escape, waiting to be killed as food, and he walks us through a world of intense nostalgia and heartbreak with the Rose Tattoo marking the chests of Serafina's lovers.
Even O'Neil, lauded by most as our finest American playwright, never quite matched the powerful language of the heart that saturates these three works of gritty, raw desire and nostalgia. Both of which, as Williams insists, take up plenty of space in the hearts of all.

Customer Reviews:
Lovely, accurate little birds.......2001-02-01
This Dover Little Book has ten depictions of favorite birds. The drawings are very realistic and colorful. Some of the birds are shown flying, others sitting, some flexing their wings. The blue jay is probably one of my favorites, along with the painted bunting, but why decide? They're all here. The pictures include a scarlet tanager, a cardinal, the American goldfinch, an indigo bunting, a bluebird, a Baltimore oriole, a robin, and a redwing blackbird.
Awsome Tatoos.......2000-06-18
I thought this would be a nice litte present for my sister since she was a bird watcher. These tattos were really nice. They were very colorful and looked real. I was really impressed with them.

Brutalized and addicted to drugs as part of her `treatment,` Jobeth nonetheless counts the minutes for her chance to escape. Her dramatic look catapults Bird into the dazzling world of the supermodel, but with her face on the covers of magazines, this Bird will not be able to fly for long! Written by Carlos Trillo (Cybersix, Video Noire) and painted by artist Juan Bobillo, Bird: The Tattoo is a tale of greed, beauty, and madness, another essential Venture graphic album, published in a stunning oversized edition in collaboration with Strip Art Features, and available for the first time in an English-language edition!
