Customer Reviews:
Splendid!...Glory goes to God........2007-10-10
I'm just starting my second round thru the book. There's just so much to try to wrap one's mind around. I recommend this book to those who have an interest in physics, quantum mechanics, science, theology and the Creator of the Universe! (Sub-atomic particles will make your head spin!) I also recommend Dr. Swenson's video series of the same title.
Awesome Reinforcement of God's Artful design.......2007-09-09
Don't know how ANYONE could read this book and believe that "we" crawled out of some sludge hole as some other creature and "evolved" into what we are today. We were CREATED by the MASTER ARTIST! All you need to know is here. An excellent book to provide to those you know who are unsaved and skeptical!
"Reason Redeemed by Grace".......2005-10-30
The two Amazon Editorial Reviews (from Publishers Weekly and Booklist) just don't get it. Why is it hard for people to understand that a book written by a Christian, for a Christian audience, by a Christian publisher will develop it's theme from a Christian perspective. And why would someone wonder how a Christian could believe that God could hear a billion prayers at once (since, God being God, from the Christian world-view, can hear an infinite number of prayers at any given "moment").
"More Than Meets the Eye," by Dr. Richard Swenson offers exactly what the subtitle accurately promises: fascinating glimpses of God's power and design. It does not pretentiously pretend to offer in-depth scientific analysis. It does present micro and macro signs of God's transcendence and immanence. Science and faith, when looked at with what Luther called "reason redeemed by grace," consistently connect to show God's handiwork, God's fingerprints, God's footprints everywhere--from the largest star to the smallest particle. No, "More Than Meets the Eye" is not the final word. However, it is a fascinating glimpse for those willing to look at creation and the Creator with intellectual integrity and spiritual authenticity.
Reviewer: Bob Kellemen, Ph.D., is the author of "Soul Physicians," "Spiritual Friends," "Biblical Psychology," "Martin Luther's Pastoral Counseling," and "Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."
Love-Hate.......2004-01-06
I had a love-hate relationship with this book. Its content is really fascinating; it collects amazing facts and anecdotes about everything from the human body to modern research in physics. But its writing style was ludicrously and distractingly over-Christian; I groaned audibly at the segue from a discussion of the mysterious dynamics of the inner ear to a reminder that we should use our ears to listen because "softly and tenderly Jesus is calling." So cheesy and unnecessary! The fascinating details of anatomy and molecular function are pure theology and need no superficial pseudo-spiritual commentary to make them "Christian," and I can't recommend this book to many people for that reason. I found its content riveting and compelling in SPITE of the writing style.
Fascinating blend of science and theology.......2002-12-09
This book does a wonderful job of pointing out miracles of God as discovered by modern science. Swenson presents the complexity of the universe from a Christian world-view and masterfully mixes orthodox commentaries into his discussions of human anatomy and physiology, and modern physics. Multiple scientific thoughts are explained well enough to be understandable and intriguing but without the intricate detail of a science textbook. This book is very edifying for Christians with a passion for science and technology and would likely be a good evangelism tool for presenting a Christian world-view to a scientist or engineer that does not yet know the Lord.

Transformer Guidebook 2.......2005-01-05
This book has some great details, with full color pictures on glossy paper. It give the bios, abilities, strengths and weakness of all the Autobots and Decepticon from the beginning and other Transformers I have never seen from the original that came out in the late 1980's from Marvel Comics and Hasbro.
I wish they had put this book into one instead of two volumes and if possible in hard back cover like the Transformers "The Ultimate Guide".
If you like the Transformers from the 1980's, I think you will like this guidebook.

Book Description
Unusual as they seem, underground buildings are surprisingly common.
Every day, millions in North America work, shop, dine, study, and play in the more than three hundred public and commercial structures and five thousand private homes nestled in the earth.
Underground buildings are safe, attractive, useful, and comfortable places to frequent and live. Unlike a common misconception, most are dry and warm, and they are often sun-filled.
More than one hundred underground buildings are included in this fascinating subterranean tour. These buildings range from the famous to the unnoticed. Some were built for pragmatic reasons, others for aesthetic considerations, still others, for a combination of both.
There are impressive success stories and discouraging tales of failure. Some underground buildings are incredibly energy-efficient, for example, while others leaked so badly they were abandoned.
A vast spectrum of structures is presented, ranging from stunning examples of hidden opulence to humble subterranean cubbyholes where unassuming people immerse themselves in nature's simplicity.

Phenomenal, Practical, Superb Photographs, Detailed.......2007-02-24
At $29 or less, this book is being given away. This is a museum-quality book in terms of the paper, the photographs, the lay-out, and the cover.
I bought this book in part because land is becoming extremely scarce around the great universities and the central business districts, and I was looking for something to help me think through how to persuade a university to let me put a building into a hill or under a playing field.
This book does that. It is a very fast read, the photographs are priceless--worth 10,000 words each as the Chinese would say--and the only thing I did not find in this book were architectural specifics and photos of underlying infrastructure (pump rooms, air cleaning rooms, etc.)
If you are contemplating the need for squeezing a building into an area that is down to the "do not disturb" green space, or if you are contemplating how to exploit existing mines, caverns, or other underground options, this exquisite book is not only useful as a tool for reflection, it will help you "make the sale" to skeptical others you have to get on board.
The author provides a list of 50 places to visit with addresses, telephone numbers, and web sites, a fine resource section for more reading, and an excellent index.
This is an all-around world-class book that is easily worth $49 or more.
Good intro to U.S. underground buildings.......2006-03-13
This book has many short, easy-to-read sections about general topics relevant to building underground, and about many specific examples in the United States. Unfortunately, there is not room to go into much detail about all the examples, but this book is definitely a good starting point. Well illustrated with color photographs.
Taken the the next level.......2003-10-30
This book is filled with wonderful pictures that augment the authors descriptions of underground buildings. She writes with wit and demonstrates that undergound buildings have many benefits, including financial and asthetic ones. This book is well worth a read as a detailed resource of information on this topic, as well as being an entertaining "coffee table" book. She explores this issue, which is more common than the average person would believe, and takes it to the next level.
Architectural drawings accompany these examples.......2003-10-19
Underground buildings are surprisingly common, offering users a safe, attractive alternative to above-ground buildings. Most are even dry, warm and sun-filled. Loretta Hall's Underground Buildings features over a hundred underground buildings from famous structures to those which have received little comparative attention. Architectural drawings accompany these examples and a spectrum of structures provide a variety of examples of their applications and use. Beautiful, rich photos wonderfully enhance the informative text making Underground Buildings a welcome and much appreciated addition to academic and professional Architectural Studies collections.
Book Description
Whether we’re driving on the interstate highway or trying to find a new restaurant in the city, posted signs are our primary tools for navigating the world. In Visual Communication, Harry Jamieson offers a thorough analysis of this important form of communication and investigates the intricate processes behind our interaction with signs.
In a groundbreaking departure from standard aesthetic and graphic-based analyses, Jamieson probes the complex connection between perception and linguistics in the use of signs. He proposes new approaches to understanding the visual experience through the use of information and language theory, and he examines the underlying ideas within visual communication studies, rather than the solutions the field proposes—but without neglecting the practical aspects of these theoretical ideas. A comprehensive resource, Visual Communication will be an essential read for scholars in media studies, visual arts, sociology, and cultural studies.

Joan is a wonderful positive person........2000-10-17
I knew Joan when she was going through her loss of vision. She is a very positive and uplifting person. Her book is true to the experiences we all had with her and her family. You have to read the book and feel that your outlook on life can be just as positive and happy!
Joan is truly a gift to us all........1999-05-12
I had the pleasure of hearing and seeing Joan Brock while at a convention in Oakland, CA in May of 1999. This woman has been through so much, yet still manages to see the good in life and in people. She will inspire you and lift you. The book make my mother cry with joy as she read it. I hope to have the pleasure of reading more books of Joan's should she choose to write them. Thank you Joan for the joy you have added to my life.
An inspiring true story of courage and triumph over tragedy........1999-01-27
This is a wonderful story of love, devotion, and courage; the courage to have an attitude to adapt and make the best of whatever situation you are in. I was so touched by it's message, I return to it's pages when life seems TOO hard. It helps me regain my perspective. An excellent book!

Customer Reviews:
Nice companion book (Volume 1 of 2).......2005-09-29
An enjoyable book listing the personalities and abilities of numerous Generation 1 Transformers. I picked up the book out of nostalgia sake (grew up with the original Transformers) and enjoyed it! It's unfortunate the Dreamwave Productions publishers went out of business though. Their work on the Generation 1 Transformers help promise and potential. I recommend picking up the Dreamwave trade paperbacks collections if you enjoy the original 80's Transformers.
Volume One.....for any hardcore fan .......2005-09-07
Yes...Im a big fan of the decepticons, and a huge dork about the transformers.. The book is great, but the pages are really small, volume one only goes up to the letter "P"...so all the other characters are in the second volume, which I think is a load of crap !!! $25 bucks for half the characters..you'll end up spending $50 bucks !! thats crazy !! just a way to get more money out of our pockets right..dont get me wrong, its a a good book, but you only get half the characters and the book is small.
Good, but not definitive........2005-09-06
These two volumes represent Dreamwave's effort to provide a guidebook for all of the G1 transformers. I'm not talking about inductively coupled wire coils, but the fiction spawned by the 1980s toyline.
Transformers are silicon-based lifeforms from the planet Cybertron with the ability to change into different objects. Two groups, Decepticons and Autobots, wage war against each other. Under most versions of the story, Deceptions attack and board an Autobot spacecraft, which ends up crashing into Earth a long time ago. Volcanic activity today awakens the Autobot spacecraft, which erroneously rebuilds the Decepticons as earth machines, identifying them as the planet's dominant life. The Decepticons, with classic characters like Starscream, Rumble, and Soundwave, under Megatron's leadership set out to enslave the planet's "fleshing" inhabitants and use its natural resources to make Cyberton the galaxy's predominant military power. The Autobots, with the help of a few humans (and the opposition of others!) work to stop them.
At its best the entries really shine, but the comprehensive effort lacks consistency and generality across universes. The outstanding penciling in many places left me in awe. I observe, however, all characters are not drawn at the same skill level. Moreover, the coloring lacks complexity and takes away from the penciling to some extent.
The guidebooks are very comprehensive. For instance, I really appreciate the personal information on individual micromasters. The entries on omega sentinels, pretender shells, size/mass conversion technology, teleportation, sparks, space bridges and so forth also add a nice touch. I'm annoyed by the presentation of the neo-G1 history as if it is authoritative; I suspect most fans regard this history as a strange aberration that strays too far from the original stories.
Overall, one hesitates to take the "official" guidebooks as gospel, but they're still fun items to own.
Transformers Generation One: Guidebook Vol. 1.......2005-03-29
This book contains lots of info about your favorite characters from the original Transformers including the toy characters as well. It also includes some characters' personal rivalry with another. I highly recommend this book for any Transformers Fans.
