This book is fully interactive and uses a dry-erase marker so that unique situations and solutions can be added and changed with a wipe of a paper towel, as the child masters a skill and grows. Also included is a Communication Pad for tracking and sharing information between home and school.
Book Description
How often do you flnd yourself on the losing end of an argument? What percentage of your success in life depends on your success in conversation? Believe it or not, if you are like most people, your answer would be 98 percent or more.
Do you have a plan ready when you find yourself confronting an adversary at work? At home? On a dark street at night? Or do you just react from habit or emotion? As George Thompson says, "When you react, the event controls you. When you respond, you're in control."
Verbal Judo is a philosophy that can show you how to be better prepared in every verbal encounter: How to listen and speak more effectively; how to engage people through empathy (the most powerful word in the English language); how to avoid the most common conversational disasters; how, instead, to have a proven, easily remembered strategy that will allow you to successfully communicate your point of view and take the upper hand in most disputes.

A must for anyone who deals with difficult people.......2007-08-15
I am an acoustical and systems design consultant, and prior to that have held jobs in sound contracting and public assembly facility technical operations for a total of approximately 25 years. As anybody who has worked in the entertainment, performing arts, hospitality, or religious world can attest, I come into contact with more than my fair share of difficult people and tense situations.
This book and the courses authorized or taught by its author were highly recommended to me approximately 15 years ago by a police lieutenant who gave a guest lecture in a criminology class I was taking in college. This same officer also mentioned the book at an in-house training event at the university sports/concert arena where I worked at the time. It is with no small amount of embarrassment that I must report that it took me until last year to "get around to" buying and reading this book. I certainly could have used its advice, even years before it was written!
Suffice it to say that Verbal Judo is the type of book that is enlightening upon the initial read-through, but whose true value only comes from steady effort to change one's behaviors from long-held bad habits. I believe learning would be far more effective with ongoing practice and coaching, just as with a physical martial art. However, until such a dojo opens its doors in my fair city, I shall have to make do with re-reading the book and discussing its application with others who have been similarly blessed by its wisdom.
Outstanding book and program.......2007-07-16
We are taught Verbal Judo in my line of work. It's an outstanding program. The book goes into how the program originated and explains it in detail. If you're into law enforcement, security or EMS this book should be mandatory reading.
A must read for all Law Enforcement........2007-06-19
I have heard the term "verbal judo" tossed around at work since first becoming a Deputy Sheriff with a metro Atlanta Sheriff's Office almost a year ago. For a few years verbal judo was taught to all new deputies but apparently our department let our certification lapse and as such when I joined it had ceased to be taught.
Well I want to be the best deputy that I can be and thus I went and ordered this book. I couldn't put it down! I carried it with me while I worked at the jail and read it in my office on my down time. In two days I finished the book and felt like I had a new weapon to add to my arsenal when dealing with people.
I liked the book so much, I actually loaned it to another deputy on my shift and like wise he couldn't put it down. Another deputy saw him reading the book, asked him where he got and she then proceed to track me down and ask if she could borrow the book next.
The books made me rethink all the altercations I have had at the jail and even in life. How I could have handle things better. As I prepare to go to academy in September and then shortly afterwards, the road, I feel that by taking the time to educate myself on this vital concept, I have greatly helped prepare myself for not only the road but for life itself.
THIS BOOK REALLY,REALLY, SUCKS!!!.......2007-06-06
THIS BOOK TITLE IS VERY MISLEADING..IT DOESN'T GIVE THE TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE IT IMPLIES..IF YOU WANT ANY TYPE OF SKILL, IN TERMS OF COMMUNICATION OR OTHERWISE, THE 48 LAWS OF POWER HAS IT! AS DOES ALL OF ROBERT GREENES OTHER BOOKS..THAT IS AN AUTHOR THAT DOESN'T FALSE ADVERTISE! HE TEACHES EXACTLY WHAT HE CLAIMS AND MUCH MORE!CHECK HIM OUT.THE ART OF SEDUCTION BY GREENE IS ALSO MUCH MORE HELPFUL IN VERBAL SITUATIONS, THOUGH NOT AS MUCH AS HIS OTHER TWO BOOKS.BUYING HIS THREE DEFINITELY WON'T DISAPPOINT
The 48 Laws of Power
Very good book.......2007-05-24
I found this book very interesting and useful.
I wish only not to forget to refresh verbal judo guidelines - I tend
to return to my old , not sophisticated ways of dealing with difficult people..
The idea of "Verbal Judo" makes all the ideas in this book memorable
and significant . Good attitude and wise form of presentation.
I really thank the author for this remarkable book

Book Description
The vast body of knowledge assembled about the Holocaust has reconstructed nearly every aspect of that tragedy. Monographs, document collections, memoirs, oral histories, novels, and films have all contributed to an understanding of the events that shocked the world into stunned silence in 1945. But what happened in the aftermath--as stunned silence gave way to a full realization of the horror--has not been as thoroughly studied. Indeed, there exists no systematic examination of how countries around the world have responded to the Holocaust after 1945.
Sponsored by the Holocaust Memorial Center and under the editorship of David S. Wyman, The World Reacts to the Holocaust is a major new reference work that chronicles, country-by-country, the impact of the Holocaust on world history. Covering twenty-two countries and the United Nations, the volume carefully traces the contentions and controversies involved in the efforts to come to terms with the Holocaust, from the attitudes and perceptions of 1945 to the political, economic, and cultural legacies of the 1990s.
Following a standard format, the essays, all written by prominent scholars, begin with a brief history of the Jews in each country prior to the Holocaust. They next address the characteristics of the Jewish settlements, the presence of anti-Semitism and any related violence, the role of Jews in the society, and the nature of the relationship between Jews and non-Jews. A brief narrative of the Holocaust in each country follows. Among the issues examined are the extent of the human destruction, the degree of collaboration, Jewish reactions, and efforts to save the Jews. The essays then proceed to the post-World War II era and recount the treatment of Holocaust survivors upon their return; the postwar trials of war criminals; the changes in the culture and economy of the postwar Jewish community and its position in the society; the political, literary, and historical responses to the Holocaust; and the evolving attitudes toward Jews and Jewish culture.

An exhaustive and rewarding survey and analysis.......1998-10-18
This is a book that should have been written years ago. Every country in the world reacted differently to the Holocaust--most accepting few refugees but all facing the post-war revelations about its horrors. In some countries, for example, the scurrilous deniers of the Holocaust were given a public stage; in other countries--including the entire Soviet bloc, the Holocaust was portrayed as a crme against socialists and workers, never mentioning that the overwhelming majority of victims were Jewish exterminated simply because of their birth. This book contains chapters not only from Western Europe but for countries around the world, even Cuba and Japan. It should be required reading for anyone interested in the subject.

Thank-you, Thank-you.......1999-12-21
Thank-you so much for writing this book. This was the first book I read after learning my eighteen year old son is gay. It brought me great comfort to know other parents went through the same kinds of feelings I did. I cried and yes laughed a little with each new story. It was easy to read, like reading someones diary but with their permission. The stories were honest and heartwarming. I am in the process of reading it again. This should be a must read for all newly told parents, their son or daughter is gay. Thank-you.
Hope.......1999-03-26
As a gay guy, this book has had a huge impact on me. I am 36 years old, have been with my partner and haven't yet officially told my parents I am gay. This book has made me do a lot of thinking lately. I would dearly love to share truthfully who I am with my family but I am not sure whether it would be too destructive. My mother is 72 and she lost my dad 4 years ago which seemed to take a lot of life from her. Thanks Bryce for getting this book together. It really is one of the best books on this subject that I have read in a long time.
Book Description
What can be done with a horse that's hard to bridle, won't stand for a new farrier, or kicks while being ridden? Why would a sweet horse suddenly turn mean? How can an owner calm a horse that becomes a nervous wreck at shows? And what should be done if a gelding attacks a mare?
Anyone who has spent much time around horses knows that horses can be shy, frightened, anxious, uncooperative, and even aggressive. But that does not mean that the horse owner should accept unwanted behavior. In The Horse Behavior Problem Solver, equine behavior expert Jessica Jahiel offers proven solutions to common horse behavior problems.
Jahiel explains how a horse thinks, how it learns, and why it acts the way it does. She identifies the types of bad habits that are the result of the horse being mishandled by humans. And she helps owners and riders understand that what may look like bad behavior to a human is actually, from the horse's point of view, a perfectly reasonable response. The trick is for the human to realize which behaviors are instinctive and which are learned. At the same time, people need to learn what can be done to prevent bad habits from forming and how to discourage or eliminate a horse's existing patterns of unwanted behavior.
For this eminently readable handbook, Jahiel has adopted a friendly question-and-answer format. Each question includes a detailed real-life case study. The author then identifies the source of the trouble and offers the owner or rider practical, proven techniques that can help solve the problem.
This book is truly comprehensive. First, Jahiel explains how to establish a healthy human-horse relationship. Then, she moves on to the problems, ranging from horses that don't like to be groomed or handled, to horses that regard a visit from the vet as a traumatic experience. And because the situations presented in this book are common to all horses and horselovers, Jahiel's advice is applicable to every breed of horse, and to Western as well as English riders.

Not what I expected..........2005-11-25
I bought this book hoping for some basic advice about horses with vices. What I got was an interesting but altogether not very helpful collection of letters that addressed VERY specific problems. The answers did not include anything that really helped me as a rider either. All in all, it's a neat read but more of a borrow-from-the-library than a good buy.
Enjoyable but no new revelations.......2005-08-16
Unless you've totally missed the boat with natural horsemanship, you know that the key to doing anything with horses is having patience, a theme that is repeated over and over again in every section of this book. I needed help with a bucker, and Jessica's bucking info basically reiterated what I already know. Check saddle fit, and call in a professional trainer. If I had the money for a professional trainer, I wouldn't have bought her book.
Best Horse Advice Book I have EVER read!.......2004-07-01
I have been suscribed to Jessica's HorseSense online newsletter for some time, and as soon as I found out she was putting a book together I knew I had to have it. I recommend it to ANYONE who wants to know more about horse behavior. Jessica explains everything in an easy to read and easy to understand manner. She addresses almost every problem that horse owners and horse riders have and the advice is just plain great. I would love some day to be able to meet her to share my admiration of her knowledge.
Hores Behavior Problem Solver.......2004-06-22
This book is a must have for everyone who strives to be a better horsewoman/man. Jessica's perspective challenges us to look at things from the horse's prospective, to ask ourselves if we are communicating the right questions for the answers we get from our horses. Her advice is invaluable to me as I train my two 4 year olds. I refer to this book weekly and have read it cover to cover many times over. It seems that each time I read the questions and answers, I pick up something I missed the time before. Or maybe, the second or third reading, I am ready to Hear that part of the answer! More, Jessica! Keep writing!!

Book Description
These volumes provide an insight into the ethical and theological thought of Henry Grove (1684--1738), a leading Presbyterian of his day. Grove exemplifies the more intellectually and doctrinally tolerant of eighteenth-century divines. His position as tutor of the Dissenting academy in Taunton enabled him to exercise a formative influence upon many who were destined for the ministry. In his ethics he responds to the challenges posed by Hobbes and others, and in his academy curriculum he separated ethics from dogmatics -- a significant departure. His theological writings acquaint us with the doctrinal position, pastoral concerns and piety of one who kept his head during a period of doctrinal turbulence frequently marked by wanton polemics.
This collection of rare writings includes the 4-volume Works, containing Grove’s sermons, discourses and tracts published during his lifetime, and collected and republished posthumously by his pupil, assistant and successor at the Academy, Thomas Amory. In addition the set contains the scarce 2-volume System of Moral Philosophy,. The set provides valuable background to the writings of Hobbes, Locke and Newton and will be of interest to philosophers, theologians, and intellectual and church historians.
--important for an understanding of the reception of Hobbes, Locke and others by eighteenth-century divines
--reveal the responses of a significant Dissenting divine to the philosophical and theological trends of his day
--demonstrates the breadth of interest of one of the more open-minded theological educators of the early eighteenth century
