No Nostalgia.......2007-07-28
I always wondered what happened when the dudes at subpop started rolling in cash after Nirvana broke. When you are so NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, and suddenly you are wallowing in it. I had no idea that the indie execs were sucked into a larger scam by a fame-obsessed scammer to the stars. Great storytelling and great stripped down prose. Keeps you from getting too nostalgic.
I Can't Believe I Read This!.......2007-07-27
White's story is about Dana Giacchetto, con man to the stars. What is particularly startling about this book is that the author's husband lost $80,000 (out of $100,000) to Dana, yet she began work on the book in collaboration with Dana. (Eventually Dana stopped cooperating.)
Dana began targeting the arts community (he had tried his hand in the area) after first working in a bank, reading Warren Buffett,and starting a band. Supposedly (per the SEC) about $20 million disappeared through Dana's activities. These were simply writing checks on Account A to deposit into Account DG (Dana Giacchetto's).
Investments were made - eg. Blue Chips such as Coca-Cola (ala Buffett), Texas water companies, and Motorola's Iridium (a satellite phone communications venture that went nowhere). Overall, however, they did not earn the returns Dan promised, nor cover the costs of his lifestyle.
Bottom Line: You won't learn any salacious (or otherwise) gossip about the stars in this book, not even any specifics about how Dana ran his con game.
A-List.......2007-06-30
I came to this book sort of by chance and read it through without thinking of putting it down. Emily White's a great storyteller of boiled-down prose. Bare bones the tale is A-list. Money and lies and sex and drugs. But the opening of her characters' lives is something else. Herself included.
Celebrity, like a passing Kate Moss or Kurt Cobain, is atmosphere in a better story. Her own. Her amazing Dana Giacchetto, his family, her husband. Headlines are torn away and filled in with the real thing. And the blur is written together as literature. This is a real back door to a stupid world. And she strips it down perfectly.
The book is a great read and not to be confused for a how-to-make-money or gossip rag. So you don't get to know how big Leo's penis is. Oh well.

It's not the best but it's not the worst either........1998-06-05
I have bought it I think last week because it was sold out before. I wasn't that enthusiastic about it when I have read and view it. But it's not really bad, if you're a first time Leo fan, but I'm not. The book was quite expensive here, than you bought it in U.S. But it was good for a purpose though, I scanned almost all of Leo's pictures there and posted it on my website. Grace Catalano put Leo in such simple words which easily describes him.

I have read many of the Leonardo DiCaprio books out and as nice as the pictures in this book are, I was disappointed in the lack of information. This book is good but really short. I liked it but not as much as the other Leonardo DiCaprio books I had read.

I loved this book. Tons of great pictures and information on Leo. The book was very well written and interesting. If you're a Leo fan, I highly recommend this book.

Despite its 53 mouthwatering photos, there's bad news for lustful female fans in this bestselling Leonardo DiCaprio book. "I'm probably not going to get married unless I live with somebody for 10 to 20 years," Leo confesses. "[Boys nowadays] don't have the balls that Romeo did." But the good news, according to Leo's on-camera Juliet, Claire Danes, is that he is still "rather immature." So there may be hope! But beware of a too-direct approach: "Not that I mind being recognized, but all these teenage girls have become hysterical, man. What they do is shocking, climbing over walls and stuff."
Biographer Brian Robb covers Leo's career from childhood (when he got booted from Romper Room for being rowdy) to his Oscar nomination for What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and onward. Although this is a good book for slavering preadolescent female fans who don't understand words more than two syllables in length, the book was unsatisfactory for anyone but the most devoted. Containing quotes, pictures and a short bio, get this one for your daughter only if you want to waste your money.

I bought this book hoping it might give a somewhat intelligentor insightful look into this talented young star, since it seems to methat DiCaprio is an actor whose skill makes him worth a serious book or two. Alas, I was mistaken. The book is written more in the vein of a teeny bopper fan magazine, with an extremely superficial "history" supposedly of his life (but actually more about his films). It says nothing penetrating or original, and its most controversial statements are some asides about minor idiosyncracies or mischief which have an "ain't he cute" attitude and come straight from the publicity department. A more intelligent and revealing look at this young actor is long overdue.

Good Vaue for your money.......1999-11-24
This book is great for the more serious Leo admirers. O.k. there's not very much about Leo himself, but more about his films and that's what interests me. In this book you'll find comments from Leo on his films and working on it, but also from his co-stars and directors. In my opinion it would be even more valuable if there was more about Leo and his decisions to do a film and more about him working on the film. But still worth the money.

I really like the book because I learned so much about my favorite star, Leonardo Di Caprio. I also love the photos. Some of the pictures in the book are the ones I haven't seen before. I enjoyed reading this book so much that I didn't realize I finished it for just two hours. I have repeated reading it for about seven times. I learned some things that I did not know about Leonardo Di Caprio and his movies. I even read some news about him that I haven't heard before. I love this book!!!!It's great!!!Buy it if you are a fan of Leonardo Di Caprio.
