The big story is good, but the small stories are even better.......2003-10-08
After making it clear to everyone, that 'the strong one is most powerful alone' Lucifer is finally reaping the fruits of his arrogance in the 'Paradiso' and 'Purgatorio' story arcs. When he only survives by the skin of his teeth he finds himself indebted to some characters that he used to treat pretty much like cockroaches in previous encounters.
Truly a masterful parable about power and arrogance that may have a lot of meaning in this day and age. However it is again the short interludes where the genius of Mike Carey shines most brightly. 'The Writing on the Wall' is not only a masterful story in itself (... thousand years are but one day ...) but also a prism shining light on the greater story arc. (Re-read the first page about the importance of communication after you know the whole story and be amazed!)

Book Description
Every once in a great while the glimmer of something different will twinkle from the stack of comic cordwood piled in the daily newspaper. In I Have Tampered with the Divine Plan, the second Agnes collection, that glimmer continues to shine brightly. Agnes, the round-nosed, elegantly footed little girl in the cute black shift, and her best friend, Trout, continue their mad scramble through youth's treacherous minefield. High adventure and mayhem are afoot as they share the odd conversations that cobble together all amazing relationships.
And when all that imagination no longer fits in their heads, it spills out into some very messy puddles. And messy puddles are funny.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting a second book of Agnes's wisdom and adventure. Agnes appears in many papers across the country, including the San Francisco Examiner, the Chicago Tribune, and the New York Daily News.

Do NOT pass up this little gem!.......2006-12-24
Agnes greets me each and every day (she's on my toolbar)...what better way to share with my friends, then to get them a set of this special collection of the heart warming and fun adventures of Agnes and Trout and all the life's lessons they impart on us. Do yourself a favor...make this your coffee table book...your guests will thank you!
Agnes is a complete darling.......2006-06-29
I bought this one never having read a single Agnes cartoon before, just because I liked her pointy little toes and frizzy hair...she just had to be wonderful. I was right. Agnes is smart and funny and kooky and this book is refreshing enough to read a second and third time.
The Truth According to Agnes.......2006-03-23
Tony Cochran has his finger on the pulse of his heroine. He is witty, sardonic, wise and hilarious. In fact, I think he has a camera pointed at a friend, who I was sure had a unique personality. Now I find that the author knows her too. Agnes is charming and frustrating at the same time. Her view of life never wavers, unless it suits her needs. Her friend, Trout, has a hard row to hoe, but she is faithful to their friendship in spite of it all. Her comments always bring things back into focus. I find myself nodding my head and laughing at each page.
I love Agnes.......2006-03-17
The second book of collections from the comic strip by Tony Cochran is just as brilliant as the last. I love his characters, especaily Agnes - a spunky young girl who makes best she can by using her resorces of wit and sarcasm. The best part of the comic is the writing. Sharp, realistic, and fun. Can by enjoyed by all ages.
A much-needed antidote to overly warm and fuzzy scenarios.......2005-06-04
Agnes: I Have Tampered With The Divine Plan is cutting-edge humor in the form of an Agnes comic strip collection. Agnes is a young girl with a name far older than she is; she is given to deep thoughts and lengthy ramblings, when she is not gluing Froot Loops on hats, or practicing a dance number in a vain attempt to impress a teacher asking her to multiply 14 x 13. As a strip, Agnes is a much-needed antidote to overly warm and fuzzy scenarios flooding the newspapers, as its young heroine does not enjoy the security of many of her comic strip peers - she lives in a trailer with her elderly grandmother, who tries to stretch diminutive family funds and enrich quality of life through culinary creations a la spam. Agnes' personal poverty, not to mention her biting insight into the world around her, limits her friends circle of friends to one person: the tomboyish Trout, named after one of her father's favorite hobbies (she was only a few numbers away from being named "Powerball"). Together, this duo of unlikely girlfriends produce a dynamic reminiscent of Calvin and Hobbes, particularly when one contrasts Agnes' contemplative albeit self-absorbed musings to Trout's more practical and simple realism-based approach to life. Yet Agnes is a unique formula all its own, one in which the quest for self-identity, rather than rampant misbehavior, is the central tenet of the main character's personal struggles. And it's sidesplitting, milk-snorting, feel-sorry-for-the-goldfish-drowned-in-tomato-sauce-but-can't-help- laughing-about-it funny. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Comics meets the Da Vinci Code...Hot Babe fighting evil!.......2006-09-14
Magdalena is very interesting graphic novel. Fist off, the artwork by Benitez is fantastic. Check out the recently released Batman Detective Comic # 823. His rendition of Batman, Poison Ivy and Robin is simply amazing. On to the book now...
A priest is apparently murdered in a church by Vampiri's (Vampires) and Magdalena is sent to investigate the brutal slaying. The investigation leads her to Paris whereby she confronts the Vampiri's and learns that the slaying was accidental and that they are not evil. She was killed by the soldiers of the Inquisition, the Garduna, for trying to prevent them from slaughtering the 'vampires'.
Through flahback's, we learn the lineage of the Magdalenes. They are descendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, who bore a daughter named Sarah. Each daughter born thereafter wields supernatural powers in order to fight the evils of the world.
We also learn that the church orders the slaughtering of innoncent people who do not conform to the church's beliefs (the inquisitions). We learn that the one of the Magdalene's attempts to intervene and try to save the wrongly accused from slaughter. We learn of the Spear of Destiny that was used to kill Jesus and is now wielded by the Magdalene's.
It is a very interesting read mixing religion, church politics, history and fiction. Having a good understanding of religion and history is very helpful when reading this book.
This is one of the worst. .......2005-05-23
This comic reads as if it was written by the vampires themselves. Ever seen a vampire movie where the vampires come up with a long elaborate story about how 'We're actually the victims!' and 'We only kill when we need blood!', or better yet 'It's all Jesus fault that we've been cast into eternal darkenss! He's the evil one!' Well, combine all of the BS stories you've ever heard from evil people trying to justify their actions, and you MIGHT equal the amount of bs this comic presents.
The Magdalena herself is represented by a hard-bodied 20something, who dresses very much like a stripper (sooo nice, lol!) and walks around the Vatican....it's LUDRACRIS seeing her among all of the monks and priests with her perky size D(?) breasts and her beautifully smooth midriff showing. LOL! Imagine a hot little taudry walking through the Vatican, then give her swords, and have her glare at people whenever they look at her. How far would she get?
Just one of a hundred premises that make this book ridiculous. It's too gory and filled with partially clad girls for anyone under the age of 13 to read, and the stories themselves are too discombobulated and fake for even comic book fans.
If you want to read about vampires and the darker side of the world. Read 'Steven Niles' "Dial M for Monster" It's a fairly light read, but it's funny, edgy, and has a whole lot of interesting theories. Also, he's got a bunch of others coming out, so you'll have plenty to read if you enjoy them. (I like to read whole series.)
Wow.......2003-07-30
Not the most original idea... we've all seen religious warriors and the vampires thing before, right? But let me tell you, The Magdalena herself is so bad@$$, and the treatment of Christianity is well handled (though I admit I'm a bit biased cos I'm a Catholic who has always been intrigued by Mary Magdalene). Besides that, this is worth it just cos the art is beautiful. Just my humble opinion...

For seasoned adventurers like the FF, it should be a walk in the park, right? Guess again. After a lifetime of darkness, the blind sculptress's eyesight has been restored by her father, Philip Masters - the seemingly reformed villain Puppet Master - but at what cost? Either all is as it seems... or darker forces are at work. Collects Marvel Knights 4 #13-18.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous art, dumb story........2007-07-12
There's really not much more to say. Jim Lee should only be allowed to draw comics, never write. Lots of really terrific artists tire of being told by someone else what to draw and they try to write their own stories. Some of them turn out to be good or even great writers and some don't. Jim lee is one who didn't.

Book Description
Introduces Benigni's performances in film, stage, and television, little known outside of Italy, with an emphasis on the cultural and intellectual backdrops that characterize his films, including his origins among the Tuscan rhyming poets and his experiences in the Roman avant-garde theater. Benigni's statements about his experiences and apprenticeships with cinema notables like Cesare Zavattini and Federico Fellini reveal a wealth of fresh information and confirm the sense that there is more to this madcap buffoon than meets the eye.
Book Description

Four hundred years later, he meets Tsunaie Hirasaka, a man whom he's already killed once, and has vowed to continue killing through the endless cycle of reincarnations. Book Description
