Customer Reviews:
Very bright and bold!.......2007-05-25
The colors are so vivid; just what babies enjoy looking at. The rhyming of the story is really cute. A very clever book for children of all ages. I am looking forward to reading this book to our son, once he's born. My husband enjoys this book too.
fabulous - engaging - vibrant - .......2007-05-04
we love this book. it was read during story hour one week and we had to buy it! a wonderfully illustrated book.
My son's favorite book.......2007-04-21
My 14-month-old has prefered this book over any other since he got it at 5 months. We're on our second copy now since he turns the pages a little more enthusiastically than the paper can withstand. He loves the pictures and the rhymes and he always kisses the Mom Fish at the end!
Enjoying it.......2007-03-10
My son is 2 1/2 and he loves this book! We read it together a couple of times a day. He looks at the pictures and flips through this book several times a day and the wording is so simple that he even recites the correct wording for each page from memory. The pictures are bright and interesting and the pages are of thick, good quality paper.
My daughter loves this book.......2007-02-28
My daughter has loved this book ever since her grandma bought it for her. She was 5 months then, and is 11 months now, and we still read it for her every day at least 3 times!! She loves the colorful fish and she points to them as we count them. The pages are heavy duty and have stood up to many, many readings and lots of drool! Definately recommended.
Book Description
Douglas Sirk (Claus Detler Sierck) was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1900. He made nine films before fleeing Nazi Germany, eventually coming to America. His best-known films, made during the 1950s--all of them melodramas--were "Magnificent Obsession," "All That Heaven Allows," "The Tarnished Angels," "Written on the Wind," and "Imitation of Life" (made in 1958, released in 1959).
Because of the special stamp he put on his melodramas, Sirk's best works transcend the constraints of their genre. In them, he both exemplified and critiqued postwar, conservative, materialistic life and its false value systems. There is much in Sirk, particularly in "Imitation of Life," that is of interest to us today. The time seems to be right for a new look at the film, its reception amidst scandal over the affairs of its star--Lana Turner--the relationships between its mothers and daughters, the tensions between its men and its women, the friendships between its black and white women, and the ambiguous, controversial approach of Sirk to his material.
This volume includes the complete continuity script of the film, critical commentary and published reviews, interviews with the director, and a filmography and bibliography. It also includes an excellent introduction by Lucy Fischer.

Lucy the Cat in Town: La Gatita Lucia en la cuidad (Bilingual Picture Strip Books)
ASIN: 0764131508 |
Book Description
Lucy the Cat wakes up early on a sunny morning, then goes out to visit all the animals on the farm. Most of them are friendly, but the bull turns out to be a troublemaker. This is one of two enjoyable picture books for beginning readers that teach kids a second language. If their first language is English, they can learn Spanishor if they already speak Spanish, they can learn English. The special feature in both books is a colorful series of picture-strip cartoons. The strip running across the top of each page comes with words and dialogue balloons in Spanish. The same pictures run across the bottom of each page with words in English. The full-color pictures are humorous, the accompanying text is easy, and the story is fun to read. The last page of each book is set up checkerboard style with summarizing pictures accompanied by bilingual captions in each square. Here are two great language-learning titles for children in early grades. The companion volume, also available from Barron's is Lucy the Cat in Town.

Customer Reviews:
What a HOOT!.......2004-09-03
If the number of times a child begs you to read a story is any indication of her enjoyment of it, then be prepared to memorize this one line-by-line, because if you don't, she will! We enjoyed this story of a litle boy making an adventure out of an imagined "horror" so much because of the great illustrations and the build-up to his final discovery. What makes the author's deadpan humor understandable to a child is if you read it in a twangy, southern "bubba" style. That alone will get your kid laughing. There's nothing like using different voices and dramatic inflections to help a child understand and "get it". This is one book you must add to your child's library!
Perfect for kids who think nothing ever happens to them.......2002-07-10
Lucy Nolan's wonderful "The Lizard Man of Crabtree County" is perfect for the kid who thinks nothing ever, ever happens. James Arthur is such a kid, living in Crabtree County, when one day he hears from his mother that someone has sighted, well, a LIZARD MAN! James Arthur is terrifically excited and decides to keep an eye peeled for the creature. But the harder he tries to spot him, the less luck he has.
It would be giving away too much to say anything more, but suffice it to say that both author Nolan and illustratur Jill Kastner have a terrific sense of humor. Kastner's thickly painted, colorful illustrations suit the text beautifully and add a visual element of laughter to the funny story. Great good reading all around, especially for kids who think that life is just one great big yawn.
Either we're ALL dumb, or...........2001-09-29
I've read this book countless times - neither myself, my husband, or my son understand it. We're not stupid, we swear. I SO wanted to like AND understand this book. Maybe the subtlety is better suited for a YA or adult novel???? I don't know. For our tiny family, there's nothing worse than a book that makes us feel stupid.
Wonderful children's book.......2000-07-18
Very creative and entertaining book. The author has a wonderful imagination and all my nephews have enjoyed reading this book over and over again.
Nothing Ever Happens...........2000-06-13
My favortite book of the summer. I have recommended it to everyone! A very funny story about how a boy who, unbeknownst to himself, becomes the talk of the town.

A life in pitcures.......2005-09-17
The seller indicated that this was a hard cover book, which is what I was looking for (Coffee table Book). The book I recieved was not a hard cover as described. I was disappointed.
A MUST for Lucy fans!.......2002-09-23
"Lucy: A Life in Pictures" can only be described in one word - "fantastic"! The pictures are of great quality and the captions are super. To see Lucille Ball evolve from Goldwyn Girl, to what she is most remembered for today, Lucy Ricardo, is just great. I recommend.
Great Pictorial of the Greatest Comedienne to Ever Live!.......2001-12-25
I may be a little high on the praise, but Lucille Ball is truly deserving of all the accolades bestowed upon her during her life and since her death. No other performer has had such a lasting impression on the world of entertainment as she has.
One cannot forget that, despite the outrageous costumes worn and situations in which her various "Lucy" characters were involved, the fact remains that Lucille Ball was a very attractive woman. This book not only showcases the respective series but her work on the big screen as well as her early life.
Obviously, like the rest of us, the author really "loves" Lucy.
Great Book.......2001-08-28
I personily enjoyed reading this book. It had many awsome pictures and a lot of information about Lucy. There is a whole chapter about the show I Love Lucy containing summeries of some of the most faverable episodes. If you are a true lucy fan this is a great book to read. This book also has a little bit of infotmation on desi.
Lucy lover.......2001-08-11
I loved this book. It is chocked full of some famous pictures of the American icon, Lucielle Ball, as well as other not as well known shots. Its filled with well known episodes like the chocolate factory and the grape smashing. I really recommend it.

Book Description
In this compelling account of Elizabeth I's attempts at marriage, Susan Doran argues that the cult of the "Virgin Queen" was invented by her ministers and that Elizabeth was in reality a frustrated, would-be wife forced into celibacy by political necessity.
Doran examines in detail the different suits for Elizabeth's hand, from childhood until 1581 when she was considered too old for childbearing and consequently for marriage. Contrary to conventional thinking, Elizabeth took each of her suitors seriously--including Robert Dudley, Archduke Charles of Austria, Charles IX of France, Henry of Anjou, and Francis, Duke of Alencon and Anjou--and did not choose to remain single. Her courtships foundered on political and religious difficulties which divided her council.
Customer Reviews:
ELIZABETH TUDOR-in depth.......2002-09-27
When Sue Doran writes about something you ,the reader, can be assured the result will be an indepth study of her subject matter...no just brush the surface with this writer...Here you will read about the political and social intrigue surrounding Elizabeth I and her courtships. The author focuses on a different approach to the Virgin Queen's trials in trying to govern England and handle the many "would be"and serious suitors.A most interesting and informative book for those interested in history.
Well overdue, comprehensive and innovative.......1999-03-01
This is a unique study which is of equal value to the academic or the interested amateur. For too long Christopher Haig's dated and simplified account of the Virgin Queen's persistent virginity has been allowed to dominate Elizabethan history. Susan Doran takes each of Elizabeth's courtships seriously instead of blindly assuming a grand narrative. Although female historians are relatively new to the public arena, Susan Doran has "the heart and stomach of a man".
