Book Description
Though chiefly remembered as the dance partner of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers had many other significant achievements in the entertainment world. She was a dancer, singer, comedienne, and Academy Award winning dramatic actress, as well as the highest paid Hollywood star in 1942. Miss Faris provides a detailed record of Ginger Roger's life and career, painting a picture of her as one of the most versatile performers in the United States. The volume begins with a short biography of Ginger Rogers, along with a succinct chronology of the major events in her life and career. These portions of the book provide a context for the chapters that follow, which contain annotated entries for her stage, film, radio, and television performances. The entries provide production information and cast listings, along with excerpts from reviews and critical commentaries. An extensive annotated bibliography lists books, magazine and newspaper articles, and movie trade publications that provide further information about Ginger Rogers's fascinating career.

Book Description
The I Want to Be... series gives young children a realistic insight into the working day of adults. Easy-to-read captions and color photographs of women and men from different cultures help children understand what's involved in each occupation. Young readers learn to respect the importance of doing a job well and appreciate the contributions these workers make to our life and the world around us.
These books are perfect for reading alone or in group story times. They are certain to spark questions and encourage dialogue and prompt children to learn more about these occupations.
Customer Reviews:
family favorite.......2002-07-02
Our family really enjoyed this book because it is realistic, easy to understand, and has good role models. The pictures are well done and promote discussion, and the text is just right. A favorite with both the parents and our six-year-old twins (a boy and a girl).
Customer Reviews:
nice 'multi-layered' perspective on similar aspects of medic.......2004-07-09
Providing multi-person perspectives on diverse aspects of medical education and practice, this book offers great insight into the beginnings of great doctors of our era. The only problem: these doctors are extraordinary, not-normal people. Their experiences may serve as motivation for some students, still they may give a false reassurance on a very dynamic and competitive field. Next time this book is written, normal, day to day doctors should also be interviewed. They also have extraordinary tales.
Appropriate for some........2001-04-05
I thought this book was good in describing 32 different thought processes involved in deciding on a career with a MD. However, I noticed most of the essays were written by people that went into academic medicine. I would say that most medical school graduates will not enter this arena. I found it interesting how frequent the physicians moved or changed careers. It would have been nice to hear more from physicians who spent a long time in a group practice in one geographic area.
Fascinating but has limits.......2000-03-15
This book is a breath of fresh air for those who are applying to or are planning to attend medical school. The perspectives from physicians (both practicing and not) in a range of careers are insightful and provide a glimpse into the many weaves and turns a medical career can take. My only criticism (and the author notes this, too) is that the profiled physicians are all very similar in terms of region where they work (mostly New England) and ethnicity, thus this book does not address such concerns as racism in medicine that may be important to minorities like myself who wonder about how such challenges can affect one's career choices. With that caveat, I fully recommend this book.
insightful first-person accounts of careers in medicine.......1998-06-23
This is a wonderful book for anyone interested in how physicians build their careers. It includes 32 first-person accounts spanning the range from caring for the homeless to becoming CEO of a health care corporation. The profiles are highly personal and give a much-needed glimpse into the factors that shape major career decisions. No other book I've read offers as much depth and insight. A must read!
Book Description
Johnny wants to be a doctor when he grows up, so he makes sure that his big black doctor's bag is packed with everything he needs to make his friends feel better. This classic Golden Book features a chord handle like the original so little doctors can take it with them on all their house calls.

Doctor De Soto Goes to Africa
ASIN: 8437266165 |
Amazon.com
Doctor De Soto is a well-respected mouse-dentist who runs a successful practice with his wife (and able assistant) Mrs. De Soto. The De Sotos are friendly and professional toward all their patients, from chipmunks to donkeys to cows, the exception being "cats and other dangerous animals," as stated clearly on the sign outside the office. But the De Sotos are tender-hearted rodents, so when a miserable fox shows up begging for treatment, they agree to have a look (perhaps against their better judgment). As it turns out, this fox, with "a rotten bicuspid and unusually bad breath," manages to behave himself while tiny Doctor De Soto is standing mid-molar inside his gaping jaws. When the wily fox returns the next day to get his replacement gold tooth, however, he has mouse-flavored snacks on his mind. Luckily, Doctor De Soto and his wife have anticipated such despicable canine intentions, and find a way to outfox the ungrateful fox.
William Steig, award-winning creator of Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, once again offers young readers a clever, amusing tale of interspecies mingling. As usual, Steig's tone is matter-of-fact, and his enchanting illustrations of the responsible mouse couple and their foxy adversary are alive with expression and emotion. Kids will appreciate the De Sotos' wit, and will be delighted to read more about this diminutive couple's adventures in Doctor De Soto Goes to Africa. (Ages 4 to 8)
Book Description
The delightful dentist Doctor de Soto is back at work handling all his patiens with care until he meets a new client-the wily fox. A delightful and engaging story that will charm all readers. Winner of the Newbery Honors Book Award.
Customer Reviews:
I loved this book!.......2007-04-03
My Name is Deyaneira and I am 8 years old. My English teacher read this book to us in class and I thought this book was funny . My favorite part was when Dr. De Soto climbed in the fox's mouth. I recommend this book for everybody. I also like this book by Mo Willems: Edwina the Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct. I hope you will love this book.
Doctor De Soto.......2007-01-26
Just loved this book .Great book for kids of all ages. I even enjoyed this as a adult. Great ending .
Dr. Desoto Review.......2006-11-05
This is a wonderful book! I purchased this for my 4 year old son and have given several copies as gifts to his friends. The story appeals to boys and girls. The author of this book wrote the original Shrek story as well as another book titled Boris and Amos. I highly recommend this book!
Doctor DeSoto book.......2006-03-27
You can call me StoryMaker. "Doctor DeSoto" is not my favorite book, and I especially don't like the end. I like how they are animal people, but are the size they are supposed to be. What I mean is, they are animals that talk, walk on 2 legs, and live in their own house, but unlike most people animals, they are the size they are in real life. It would probably be a book a young child would adore (probably most children ages 3-5) but I don't fall into the "Dr. DeSoto lovers" category or the "children ages 3-5" category. This book is where a mouse named Dr. DeSoto (a dentist) finds out a fox is seeking dental care. Dr. DeSoto never let an animal that might eat him come in before (that's where them being the size they are in real life is important), but the fox really wants that dental care so Dr. DeSoto's wife lets him in. The part I hate the most is the end when Dr. DeSoto gives the fox his so-called special treatment so he won't eat them. That so-called special treatment causes the fox to not be able to eat anything, even if it isn't a DeSoto family member at all. He could DIE if it dosen't ware off! I actually don't have a lot of complaints, but this book is not very exciting. Overall, perhaps you may like it, but if you like foxes, this book will not please you. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
Funny, critical thinking perspective.......2006-03-02
Consider things from the point of view of the dentist and his patient . . . you'll be laughing out loud while reading this to your kids.
