Book Description
A powerful collection of true stories that provide anecdotal evidence of horses' emotions and their ability to reason.
Customer Reviews:
common person.......2007-08-28
While the book was a great read it was not a how to book. I wanted more help with animal communication. This book really just gave extraordinary examples of a fabulous animal communicator so as to convince nonbelievers, but there wasn't a how to part.
Not what I Thought.......2007-06-27
This book is actually about a "psychic" who "talked" to the horses and then writes down the horses' "responses". I really didn't get that idea from the written description of the book before I ordered it. I was really disappointed in the concept as it seemed rather silly in some of the "responses" this psychic recorded! Waste of money.
What Horses Say.......2007-03-25
This is an excellent book. Thoroughly enjoyed it and learned so much from it.
Great Book.......2006-09-05
This was a very easily readable book. It was a book I could pick up anytime and not have to go back and reread the last several pages to remember where I had left off.
Julie Dicker is an intuitive and a healer. Apparently she has not only communicated with thousands of horses but done hands-on healing work also. Although the authors were obviously from the UK, most of the wording was easily followed. If I had a complaint it would be that they did not go into more details about how Ms. Dicker actually does her healing work.
As an animal communicator as well as healer I found this book to be an exceptionally authentic representation of horses' feelings and intelligent minds. It truly puts meaning to "The best thing that can happen to the inside of a human is the outside of a horse."
Feeling, Hearing, Loving, Healing.......2006-05-09
I try to read all the books on animal communication, and equines are my first interest.
This was a very easily readable book, and I nearly finished it in a weekend.
Julie Dicker is an intuitive and a healer. Having communicated with thousands of horses, her vast experience was used to highlight a number of specific "cases" she was involved with. It is quite obviously an English book, as opposed to American, but all the terms were pretty easy to figure out in context.
Having been around horses most of my life, nothing said in the book was particularly surprising, but I did like the little surveys done at the end of each chapter.
Asking horses what they like and what is important to them brought some surprise answers for anyone sure they would say grass, hay, or grain. To be busy and useful was the number one most important thing for horses, and receiving praise and attention even beat out food.
A clear majority of the horses preferred to remain outdoors as opposed to stabled, but in every poll, there were exceptions.
There are other books that go more into teaching one how to communicate intuitively with animals, but this book is noteworthy for the shear volume of material about the experiences, perceptions, and preferences of horses.
Whether one believes in intuitive animal communication or not, there is a wealth of material here for anyone interested in better understanding our equine companions.
While many breeds of horses and ponies were represented, there was no material from donkeys or mules. While there are many similarities with horses, donkeys and mules have some definite differences. Though these differences have been explored by sensitive trainers such as Meredith Hodges, I would love to hear what a good intuitive such as Julie Dicker could learn from donkeys and mules.
Julie and the author's love for the animals comes through in every aspect of this enjoyable book.
Book Description
The first biography of Joanna Lumley, one of Britain's best-loved and most accomplished actresses whose outrageous, champagne-swigging, bee-hived hedonist Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous is acknowledged as one of the great TV characterisations of the nineties. For over four decades, since she became a top model in the sixties, Joanna has remained an endlessly fascinating figure and is now regarded as somewhat of a national treasure. Meticulously researched, the book draws on interviews with relatives, friends and co-stars to produce an astonishingly revealing portrait of one of Britain's most likeable stars.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2006-08-28
This book leaves a lot to be desired. The authors are far too enamored and protective of the subject of the book to be subjective and so the book reads like a teen magazine interview. A good biography fleshs out the details but this book just reads like it was someone's school project to write about Joanna Lumley.

Someday someone will write a book that begins with a mother forbidding her child to enter the deep dark woods and ends with that child achieving incredible success without ever setting a toe in the forbidden forest. But not this book. Here, Billy's mom issues a few scary warnings about the woods to her son--"Beware! Beware! The Forest of Sin! None come out, but many go in!"--turns her back for a second, and the next thing you know the devil shows up and whispers something to Bobby about wild strawberries. Blammo! Guess where Billy goes--straight to the forbidden forest, of course. At this point, if you are reading the story aloud to your child, you may think there's a parable on the way. But just when you might expect to run into monsters named Lust, Avarice, and Three-Toed Sloth (okay, maybe not Lust), a real monster comes careening along and you realize that this story is just a fairy tale after all--and quite a lovely one at that.
The Minpins taps into the powerful, wonderful child's fantasy of discovering a hidden civilization of tiny folk that accepts and honors him or her. The very best part of this fairy tale is the denouement, where Billy receives the gift of nightly escape on the wings of a swan. One of Roald Dahl's only picture books--with fabulously crosshatched pen-and-ink illustrations by Patrick Benson--The Minpins is superb for reading aloud to the three- to eight-year-old set. And it culminates in a sentence or two of advice that your children just might remember for the rest of their lives. (Ages 3 to 8)
Book Description
When Little Billy ignores his mother's warnings about the wild beasts in the Forest of Sin, he meets the Minpins, miniature people who own the forest and live in the trees. Little Billy vanquishes the worst monster of all and becomes a hero to the Minpins.
Customer Reviews:
sweet and fun with lovely illustrations.......2006-12-06
A short and cute picture book, The Minpins is one of Dahl's more younger-child-friendly stories. It features protagonist Billy, an adventurous and brave boy who enters the dangerous woods alone.
Billy's allies are little people that live in trees and climb about using green suction boots. His mother tells him not to venture into the woods, where children and others disappear, but he disobeys and goes. There, he helps the Minpins by killing the Gruncher monster. Like the story of Alice in Wonderland, he returns to the real world, but continues to go, flying on the back of a swan each night.
The pictures are sweet, the words Dahl invents are fun to say, and the imagery is fun.
Cool Book!.......2005-12-03
When Billy's mom says scary warnings to him about the woods, he wants to find out for himself. The next day, he goes to the woods and sees the Minpins.
OK, but another of Dahl's is likely better.......2005-05-16
From the overhead picture on the cover to its conclusion, there's enough of Dahl's trademark silliness and creativity to satisfy a fan, but all within a not particularly compelling tale of a youngster who escapes his household confines, goes into the forbidden forest beyond, and discovers the Minpins, tree-dwelling miniature people unknown to the outside world. They have adapted to their world's major danger, the unseen fire-breathing Gruncher, who is making Billy's leaving the trees impossible because our hero must also avoid it. Probably a more than acceptable read to a middle elementary school child reading long picture books, it falls short of Dahl's longer books for older kids or his hysterical and bawdy adult books.
Great book!.......2001-12-20
We love this book. One of my daughters, who loves fantasy, asks us to read this to her about once a week. The story totally captures a childs imagination. A child will never look at the trees in their yard the same way again.
Wonderful Ronald Dahl Imagination!!!.......2001-11-15
My 6 year old loves this book! Brought it home from the library again and it was the first one she picked up. This is typical of Ronald Dahl's amazing imagination, the little people with homes inside the trees and using the birds to travel; it's wonderful! I would recommend this book for most children, though for some, the beast at the beginning may be a little scary. It's a great "read to" book.

Quirky, soulful autobiography.......2005-09-12
Joanna Lumley chooses not to go down the usual biographical route. Instead of charting the progress of her career she instead stages a kind of free-falling description of her life as she tours the rooms of her London house and allows particular objects or photographs to stir memories.
She has a particular gift for storytelling and in describing her childhood. There is a kind of gentle humor throughout which is achieved more by choosing exactly the right word to describe something rather than by jokes. For instance, she imagines a stable of horses as looking "like an equine rugby team".
Less successful are her attempts at travelog, which seem to take the form of pages culled from her diary. However, overall her technique of darting from subject to subject is enticing as we gain bizarre glimpses into her everyday life (watching tv quizzes in the kitchen) and her philosophy.
This is the most unshowbizzy of memoirs and will find favor with people who enjoy reading biographies generally rather than fans of Absolutely Fabulous, which receives scant mention.

This is the book of the Movie not the original book.......2007-09-23
My wife purchased this to read to our daughter, it is not the classic story.. but simple matter of fact rending of the disney version of the original book.. The text is dull and uninspiring, and lacks all the little details of the original that spark a childs imagination.

101 Dalmatians by Myriah Rangel.......2005-12-13
This book is about two dogs, that get there puppies stolen. They are dalmatians with black dots on white fur. Cruella De Vil wanted to make coats out of them, so sent two guys to steal them, and they did that. They got taken to a house of a whole bunch of other dalmatians. The dogs howled and spread the news, and a dog named Colonel was right on the job and rescued the puppies. The two dogs ended up with 101 Dalmatians.

DON'T DO IT.......2006-01-20
I love the show as does one of my best friends. When I saw there were 2 books out, I ordered them for her for xmas. All these are are the scripts from the show. No behind the scenes stuff, no commentary, nothing. They were such a waste of money. You get more info by going to the Ab Fab website.
Absolutely Hilarious.......2001-02-06
Hello,
Jennifer Saunders is a comedy genius and this has to be one of her best works to date. It reveals the completely obnoxious side of the quick fix 80's and 90's, with mood shifts that go from bizarre machinations to impulsive, thoughtless and wreckless PR.
Contemporary British comedy at its excruciatingly exacting best.
Regards,
Martyn R Jones
A brilliant example of comedy writing.......1998-06-08
Jennifer Saunders is a comedienne loved all over the world for her dead-on characterizations & biting satire. If you have seen the television show "Absolutely Fabulous," you know how Saunders can inhabit a character and make it her own. Now with this and her follow-up "Absolutely Fabulous 2," you will see just what a wonderful and inspired writer she is. The rapid-fire wit of her writing jumps from the page straight into your psyche. Hilarious characters, well written, and later well performed in the television series. This is a must for any "AbFab" fan, but I also highly recommend it to anyone who loves comedy or likes to read tight, smart & funny character plays.
The full scripts for the first season.......1998-04-07
This book is the perfect companion for any "AbFab" fan. If you don't know what "AbFab" is, perhaps you should buy the book anyway in order to read some of the best, sharpest, and most right-on satirical sitcom writing since the days of "All in the Family." Edina and Patsy are fashion-obsessed, substance-crazed, self-absorbed Baby Boomers. Saffron is Edina's prim daughter. Fans will find this book interesting by noting how and where the text differs slightly from the actual shows as they were put on tape. Some good bits are included in here that were left out of the final shows; due, I suppose, to time limitations. Well, cheers Jennifer Saunders, thanks a lot, babe!

Customer Reviews:
An excellent reading of a very funny play.......2003-09-06
Noel Coward called "Blithe Spirit" an "improbable farce." Well, supernatural it is, as you well know if you saw that superb film made many years ago with Rex Harrison as the poor husband, now into his second and apparently not ideal marriage, who winds up hosting the ghost of his first wife when he sets up a séance to get some material for a book.
I will not reveal any more of this delicious plot other than that the Coward wit is intact and his views of marriage are not changed from those in "Private Lives." But now we have the chance to hear it again and again as an excellent audio-version issued by Naxos on two CDs (NA226312) or on two cassettes (NA226314). Actually I should have said 1.5 cassettes since Naxos decided to keep each of the three acts on a single side, leaving the second side of the second tape simply blank.
Although much of the fun comes from the sight gags of things floating in the air and characters on stage being unable to see the ghost(s), enough of the situation comes across in this well-produced recording. We have as the husband Colin Redgrave (a familiar face from many a Masterpiece Theatre), Kika Markham as the new wife Ruth, and Thelma Ruby as the bumbling but still authentic medium Madame Arcati.
The unwelcome ghost Elvira is played by the lush-voiced Joanna Lumley, best known today as the never quite sober Patsy on "Absolutely Fabulous" and best known several years ago as the battling Purdy on "The New Avengers."
A very funny play done to perfection and even funnier with recordings of the author himself singing some of his lyrics between the scenes. The last one is especially appropriate, so look for it.
