Book Description
Combining two disciplines—posing and wedding portraiture—this professional resource helps photographers create flattering poses to build the best possible portraits and highest possible sales. Photographers are taught how to position the head, shoulders, torso, arms, hands, legs, and feet to correct figure flaws, make a client feel relaxed, and evoke a dynamic image that tells a story or defines a relationship. The challenges of shooting on location are addressed with tips for adjusting poses in any situation. A discussion of body language and how small adjustments can change an entire mood provides photographers with the ability to help their clients convey a variety of desired messages, whether elegant, sexy, or playful. Standing, seated, and floor poses are covered along with specific techniques for photographing brides, grooms, and wedding parties.

Very Disorganized!.......2007-07-12
Sample pictures do not have a clear description of which poses are good or bad. You have to read text which is usually in different pages to determine the expalantion of the poses.
Writer is not clear in his explanations and is hard to follow.
I will not buy any other books by this author.
Not at all what I had hoped.........2007-03-27
This book did not have the creative and interesting posing techniques I had hoped for. Outdated is the best word I can think of to describe this book.
Utterly disappointing, do not buy this book!.......2007-03-11
I cant begin to describe how utterly useless this book is. The title suggested a book that would provide eduction and insight to posing for portrait and wedding photography: the reality is so far from the truth you wouldnt believe!
The poses and photos shown are amatuer, pathetic and laughable... at best. I constantly had to show my girlfriend the photos and commentary and we would collapse into fits of laughter....in fact, that might be the one positive comment I can make: it's a good laugh!
The photos used are very old (lots of 1980's glam fashion here) and the models are stiff and ill at ease. They look more like firing squad victums than examples of portrait and wedding subjects. The poses are over-done, look fake and staged to a painful degree.
To top it off, there is little teaching or recognisable educational structure to this book. I read it (a painful process) from start to finish and felt I learnt nothing. Nada, zip, zero. What a waste of time and money.
Do yourself a big favour and DO NOT buy this book.
Best one I have read .......2007-02-16
My model (daughter) and I use this book as our posing bible.
It has improved the appearance of our photos one hundred percent.
By reading the book, we now have the ability to spot "bad" poses and to work out better ones.
I never realized there was so much to hand, feet and head position that went into making THE photo you are looking for.
If you only purchase one book to help you grow as a portrait photographer, this is the one.
Don't expect pretty people in pretty poses, this is a how to book that builds from one pose to next.
Perfect.......2006-11-09
This book was just what I was looking for! All of the tips and hints throughout the book have made me a more conscious photographer. The art in the book shows what you should and shoud not do while posing clients. It's an advantage to see the good and the bad right next to each other to advance personal critques.

The perfect level of detail for a beginner.......2007-06-12
This book covers all the main topics of wedding photography for the beginner. Not too much detail on camera settings; the focus is more on things you want to be aware when photographing the different parts of the wedding from before the wedding until after the reception. Pictures are great as examples and text is easy to read and understand.
Only for film photographers.......2007-05-19
I got this book hoping for info geared for digital photography, it has none. The book was written when digital photography was just becoming popular. It is good for formal wedding posing ideas, but it gives no technical info for digital photography. All of the info is based on using film.
Overrated.......2007-04-29
I am a beginning photographer but after having reviewed Digital Wedding Photography by Ken Johnson, this book I would say is a distant 3rd. Overall the book is well very simple, well written but low on explaning tecniques. This book dealt with more emphasis on wedding workflow from the dressing room to church and beyond. As a photographer I think we all know that already....I would have been happy if emphasis was put on techniques and tips on how to capture the moment. If this was my first book I may have been impressed with it but sorry folks Ken's book is far more superior in quality overall.
Not rocket science.......2006-07-31
I was hoping for a book that offered some real value - an easy to read, quick to digest volume that provided some real insight. But this is basic content that may be of value to those who have never taken a picture before, most likely using the "professional techniques" verbiage in the title to attract more buyers. It certainly got me!
Great Reference.......2006-06-30
After several years of photography and being frustrated with the results I was getting I finally decided that maybe I did need to read the manuals that came with the camera. After countless hours of trying to decipher what exactly they were trying to explain to me, it became clear that I needed something a little more "user friendly" that would still provide the necessary information to help me get the results I was looking for. After looking over several books I settled on Professional Techniques for the Wedding Photographer by George Schaub. I am not a wedding photographer by trade, in fact I have to be dragged kicking and screaming to a wedding (including my own). I found this book to be quite interesting as Mr. Schaub went through several lighting techniques that can be used not just for weddings but for all portraits. The book was written in a concise manner giving you the necessary theory behind lighting followed up with a real world example with diagrams of where to set the lights. After reading this book I still hate going to weddings and would rather go to the dentist than sit through a session with the new couple showing their wedding photos. But at least I understand how the photographer got the results they did and how I can recreate them to make me a better photographer.

THE Best Digital Wedding Guide !.......2006-04-27
I have been interested in digital wedding photography but couldn't find the right help. I purchased the book and this is it! Ms. Woodford has provided a step-by-step guide that far exceeded my expectations.
This book is NOT for the experienced Photoshop user.......2006-04-09
I was looking at purchasing this book for several months. In the mean time (and a little prior to) I studied and learned Photoshop from reading other books, the internet, and simply using the program. Well, when I finally decided to go ahead and purchase this book I was/am well versed with PS.
This book is WAY to simple in terms of "album design". It doesn't show anything I would call fancy, clever, or even good in designing in PS. It's the very basics when you use PS in the first place. If you already know PS dealing with layer, styles, etc, don't waste your money on this book. On the other hand if you don't know PS I would suggest a book geared strickly towards learning PS because you will get more out of a dedicated book. This book tries to cover digital album design within PS but you really don't gain a whole lot of knowledge. I think out of the entire book the only thing I got from it was a a place to download a film strip template from the author's website. Nuttin' else!
On a more personal note, the designs themselves are rather simple and boring (and I'm not an "out there" kind of guy). I don't want to be to harsh but I think the the designs are ugly. The auther is said to have won a design contest, but I really don't see how....unless of course the designed album was not displayed in this particular book.
In the end, get yourself a dedicated Photoshop book. This "design" book aint that good.
I gave it two stars because it goes step-by-step.
Great Book.......2006-03-24
The book has more of what I expected, it has useful links and will help any wedding photographer to have a guide to create great albums.
It is a must have...
The Professional Photographer's Digital Wedding Album Design Guide.......2006-03-21
The day I recieved this book and opened it I just knew it will pay itself many times. My copy is in my reference album design drawer just next to my computer, it has been an inspirational book when I design something for my customers. Its easy to follow and full of "down to earth" ideas and solutions.I recomend it to my fellow photographer peers at any level!!!!

The Professional Photographer's Digital Wedding Album Design Guide is a no-nonsense guidebook to Adobe Photoshop techniques for creating beautiful digital albums. Chapters cover why template and design programs are unnecessary, how to set up a secure digital workflow with back-up solutions, how to use proof selection software with clients in one's studio, solid design principles, factors that influence a fair price for albums, and more. Avoiding excessively long tutorials, The Professional Photographer's Digital Wedding Album Design Guide is very much a "quick start" reference for producing quality work with proven methods. Highly recommended for professional and amateur digital album designers alike.

A MUST HAVE!!!!.......2007-08-24
THIS BOOK PROVIDES THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO SELECT EQUIPMENT AND EVERYTHING THERE AFTER. I FOUND IT TO BE VERY USEFUL IN ALOT OF AREAS THAT I WAS UNSURE OF. AFTER READING THIS BOOK I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE LEARNED ALOT!!!!
Great Book!!!.......2007-02-15
This book is a great book. Once again, Patrick walks you through the digital aspect of digital photography for weddings & portraits. This is a great book for someone who is considering going digital. It is also a great book for someone who has already made the leap into digital because Patrick explains things in such a way that everyone can understand. I have been shooting digital for over a year now and I found this book to be very helpful. It explained alot of things for me. It clarified things that I was confused on.
I have read all of Patrick Rice's books. And I highly recommend all professional photographers do the same. Patrick has won many awards for his work. We could all learn something from him.
A perspective why digital is better. Not how to take better pictures.......2006-11-30
This is a book about why digital is better with perspectives from several people. It is not about digital photography techniques used for weddings or portraits. I found no usefull information for me in this book!
It does have a few nice photos in it but overall I found it to be a total waste of my money. If you think you may want this book, make sure you take a look at it at your local book store before buying it.
Good Place To Start.......2006-03-26
As a professional photographer just moving into digital photography, I found this book very helpful. The author explains digital imaging, cameras, CF cards, and everything elde you need to know about converting to digital from film. The images are really nice and I know this will be an invaluable guide for many photographers.
Author Comments on Book.......2006-02-24
As the author of this book, I wanted to create a easy to read, easy to understand guide for anyone considering digital portrait or wedding photography.
Digital imaging technology is described at length. There is probably more information here than you will ever need, but I would rather have too much instead of too little.
The book is illustrated with images of my own as well as several award-winning professional photographers.

Pages missing.......2003-10-04
I almost liked the book until I found out that pages 17-32 are missing (but I've got a two-pack of pages 33-48 instead!).
Sending the book back to amazon.com costs about as much as to buy it, so I just pass a word of warning.
Otherwise, this book is quite practical and is good if you are a photographer already and are looking for details specific to the business.
By no means is it a book to learn photography. And do you need it after all? As the authors put it, "A photographer with mediocre talents and an incredible marketing and business structure can often become a success". The illustrations in this book are the best proof to this statement.
Wonderful addition to any Photographers library.......2001-08-06
This book is a wonderful and insightful addition to any professional photographers library. My wife and I found this book to be extremely helpful in our profession, not to mention the great photography throughout the book. A+ for any novice or professional who needs further information into how to market and sell a successful photography business.
The Things Good Photographers Need Most.......2001-05-17
I come in contact with thousands of talented photographers each year, both at my job as editor of Rangefinder Magazine and through WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers Intl.), where I edit the monthly newsletter and help coordinate the annual convention and speaker programs. Too many talented photographers don't have a clue as to how to price their work, how to market it effectively, and how to deal with clients. The Hawkins' new book gives photographers precisely that information in an approachable, easy to follow format. If wedding photography is your profession, you need to study this book. Even if already successful, you will undoubtedly find a few things in the book you will want to incorporate into your business, especially in the area of sales and marketing strategies. It's a must-own for the modern wedding studio.
Keeping customers happy.......2001-05-13
This book could serve as a valuable resource not only to wedding professionals and photographers, but other special events planners as well. It contains a great deal of useful information about building relationships with your clientele and easing them through what is often a very tense and stressful (but joyful) period. It is about much more than snapping pictures...it is about creating an atmosphere to be enjoyed and remembered for years after as a wonderful experience for everyone involved. A TERRIFIC RESOURCE!

Book Description
Ceramics and ceramic composites are now used in almost all areas of technology and have potential for even greater and more widespread applications. To make this a reality, it is increasingly necessary to understand the microstructure of the material and its relationship with properties and performance. Central to this is the characterization of the material, in particular using optical and scanning electron microscopy techniques.
This book acts as an expert guide to the various steps necessary for successful and accurate characterization of these materials including the crucially important preparation stage, the techniques used to reveal the microstructure and the analysis of the results.
In particular, the book presents fundamental information on preparing polished sections of ceramics and ceramic composites including the main steps of sampling, sectioning, mounting and impregnation, and mechanical grinding, lapping and polishing. It discusses microstructural imaging in the optical microscope (OM) and the use of the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Etching or contrast enhancement following final polishing in order to reveal the material's microstructure is also covered.
An entire chapter is devoted to material-specific preparation procedures for polished sections. These procedures take into account the properties of the ceramic or composite being examined and the purpose of the examination. They have proven to be very suitable for the respective materials and are effective for revealing the pores. The examples presented here for ceramics and ceramic composites provide polished sections of good to excellent quality for routine examination under the optical microscope. They include tips for etching and contrast enhancement, as well as microstructural images. Chapter 5 discusses the preparation of polished sections for purposes of examination and contains information on producing oblique sections and controlled removal of material. It also addresses the production of thin sections.
As a complement to the examination of the microstructure, chapter 6 provides insight into the evaluation of hardness testing indentations. Chapter 7 concludes this work with an overview of the technical literature.
