Customer Reviews:
Fun and pretty activity book!.......2007-09-22
On the go or at home, this Travel Scratch and Sketch activity journal is a great way for kids to have fun.
There are pictures of places from around the world, like the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and Big Ben with some great information about the pictures to scratch.
The foil is rainbow and holographic -- really nice to work with. If you've ever done any scratch-off, you know how addicting it can be. If you haven't tried it yet, this would be a great one to start with.
You might want to keep one in the car for boredom emergencies!
Great from four and up..........2004-07-06
My four year old chose this as his book last week and although I had some reservations, I now know that I would buy another one. He kept himself occupied for hours (truly) with the scratching and trying to copy pictures. My 5, 10 and 11 year old also love it. A great time consumer as well as educational about the landmarks in it!

Arts and Crafts meets princess story.......2006-05-27
My five year girl old loves this! Her 7 and 9 year old brothers also have done pages in it. It has scratch off craft pages with princess scenes. She has had it now for 4 weeks and still has more than half the book to do. It has fun pictures and a cute story to go with it. It's unique and a must for any creative girl who loves a cute princess story...a great gift idea.
Customer Reviews:
Great for creative kids.......2006-09-14
I have just given this to my 7 year old son who is very creative. He absolutely loves this and can't wait to scratch the pages with all of the stencils and stickers that are included. The pages are very easy to scratch and I accidentally scratched one with my finger when checking out the book. I love this book because it is an activity that you can take on the go with you, perfect for planes and cars.
Fun!.......2004-09-15
My 5 yr old daughter got this for her birthday. She LOVES it! She plays with it for hours at a time. Great for a child that loves to do crafts, color, draw, any child that loves art.

The smells of the great outdoors are captured in DK's small, sturdy board book Scratch and Sniff Garden. "What can you smell in the garden? Is the scent of the rose sweet?" the book begins. When you scratch the lovely yellow rose, it does indeed smell quite realistically roselike. Kids can also experience the pungent smells of lavender, a log, a newly mowed lawn, and a bunch of mint. This is a great way to introduce your kids to the aromatic wonders of the plant kingdom. And, DK's Scratch and Sniff Food is fun, too. (Baby to preschool)
Book Description
Two new books, chock-full of rich DK photography and lots of specially encapsulated sniffs, make these the board books toddlers will be itching to get their hands on!
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-10-03
My two-year-old and I really love this book. After I initially took off the shrink wrap, I thought the smells were a little hard to take; however, after the book "aired out" for a couple of days, the smells were not so strong and were very pleasant. The pictures are fun with the ladybugs, butterflies, beetles, etc. A great little book!
Like Real Life.......2007-08-01
I got this for my 2 toddlers and they love this book. The smells are very strong and they have nice big pictures. The smells really do smell like the real thing. It is a short story so a busy toddler's mind can consontrate long enough. I enjoyed this book.
Very Smelly.......2006-02-23
This is a very nice book. Good pictures and very potent smells. I would have given it 5 stars if 2 of the smells didn't smell VERY much the same. The smell is put on the page not with stickers (like I am used to when I was little some 30 years ago) but with a texured surface that is only visable when you look at it from an angle. Very large areas of smell make it easy to get a good whiff. I am hoping this new way of smell application also lasts much longer than the old way!!? Happy sniffing!
Scents of Summer!.......2005-05-09
Santa brought my little 2 yr old daughter this book for X-mas! She loves this book and so do I as it is a delight to smell fresh cut grass and fresh cedar wood in the dead of winter here! Am even getting a copy of this book for my 90 yr old grandmother who lives in a nursing home. How she would love to revisit these "warm weather day" smells!
Great to teach little ones to smell!.......2004-08-07
My son who is 11 months loves this book and he loves to smell (and lick!) the different items. It has simple text in the form of questions ("Does the rose smell sweet?") alongside with real-life photos.
The smells are: Rose, Lavendar, Pine, Grass, Mint.
It has lasted for a few months of abuse so far except for the last page (Mint) which the scent has faded.
I would definitly recommend this book and I look forward to owning the others in the scratch and sniff series.
Book Description
Come help celebrate the first day of spring with Dora as she finds her way to Isa's Flowery Garden! Scratch and sniff your way past the Duck Pond, to Benny's Barn, and through the Strawberry Fields. You'll find six sweet-smelling stickers on the way!
Customer Reviews:
No smells :(.......2007-05-11
I had this book for about a week when the smell was gone. I have bought several scratch and sniff books and none of them seem to last! As a child my stickers smelled strong for a long time. I guess someone came up with new, better, safer, non-lasting chemicals to make them out of :(
Buy some stickers, their cheaper to replace.

Another Fantastic Offering from Brian P. Cleary and Brian Gable.......2007-05-07
As I was preparing to write this review, I noticed, in small print on the front flap of my copy's dustjacket, that this book is intended for children aged 7 - 9. This was a surprising revelation, as I've been reading this and the other books in the "Words are CATegorical" series to my daughter since before she turned four. She loves them, clamors for them, hangs on to every word as I read them . . . so I would encourage parents of pre-K and Kindergarten aged children not to hesitate in introducing these grammatical concepts at an early age. These books are too fun to have to wait another three years for them!
That said, "Slide and Slurp, Scratch and Burp: More About Verbs" is a worthy addition to any child's library. Mr. Cleary kicks verbs up a notch by introducing the concepts of linking versus action verbs and how verbs relate to subjects in sentence structure. And, if this sounds like way too much for a young child to grasp, then I must tell you that everything in this book is written in verse that is sly and witty and accompanied by amusing illustrations (courtesy of Brian Gable). I do not know how Brian P. Cleary does it, but I am so grateful that he does!
I have every book currently in this series, and I will purchase every book to come. I can hardly wait to see what Mr. Cleary and Mr. Gable have up their sleeves for gerunds, participles, and the subjunctive mood.

TERRIBLE.......2002-04-13
This book trying to cover everything among three-tier design within 470 pages, which is impossible. In order to understand this book, I need to read other books, like "Javaservlet" and "Beginning XML". But after I finish those reading, this book is not necessary anymore, so why wast time on this book? Some of the programs in this book are not executable and even worse.....some figures (screen shot) are misplaced.
My opinion of this book is "terrible"!
fustrating.......2002-02-19
I haven't finished the book yet but found it confusing. The examples are not completed, the reader doesn't have an example of the completed exersize. The author assumes the reader is using apache and tomcat servers. I don't know anyone using them, most developers I know use windows 2000 or NT, running IIS. JDOM is still beta and there's a whole chapter dedecated to JDOM, where it could have been spent on explaining SAX and DOM in further detail by applying useful simple examples. Overall I'm not impressed with the book. Better to read it at the book store and look for something better to purchase. Look for a text that uses IIS and not tomcat and apache, unless you are running those servers. This is not a beginners book, also purchase a JAVA/JSP text.
Don't be amazed by this book........2002-01-22
This book tries to cover so many things at once --XML, Java, DB concepts, tools, Servlets, -- that it ends up teaching technically nothing. About half the contents of the book are XML non-related stuff.
The author tries to cover such a programming language like Java in 470 pages of so many things, that he even does some bad practice! For example, he starts teaching a way of reading the contents of a file in Java, and two pages after the example he explain the Exceptions issue. If you're a Java newbie, you'll be on a big trouble unless you read the whole chapter before typing anything. The author even tries to explain the relational database concept by ilustrating it with an Excel sheet!
I must confess that this book covers just the basics, since it wastes too much time in things it can't cover. This book would be better if it talks about XML only, and leaves Java and other subjects to the pros.
If you want to "get serious" (like the author says), then buy a book that goes deep into this matter, a book that doesn't talk about everything just to mention a bit of each.
Good Concept, but.......2002-01-01
In my opinion, The concept would have been good if the content was not so inept. The source code that was associated with this book was dismal, virtually useless. Many times the source code would not give the results in the book, so I found myself doing more trobleshooting than learning.
Both Que and the author should be ashamed of distributing such an inferior product.
Great book , but not really a intro book.......2001-12-17
The pace of this book was its best feature, starting with HTML and CSS and then slowly adding in XML & XSL before jumping into the enigma of server side transformations using Java. You may want to pick up "Java 2 From Scratch" or another intro to Java book prior to reading this. I think this book was a great attempt at fusing two complex languages and sets up a good foundation to move on to more detailed books.
