Good search book, maybe not for toddlers...........2007-10-01
This, as with most of the other Usborne Great Search books, is very good. The Great World Search is our favorite in the series because it has several puzzles within puzzles for older readers.
Just in case this kind of thing bothers you or your children, a word of warning about the Great History Search: the page about the Roman baths shows small, cartoon-ish drawings of nude males bathing and wrestling . . . REAR VIEW ONLY! Any frontal details are cleverly obscured (think "Austin Powers," except tiny and less funny).
Look and Learn.......2003-02-22
This is the 2nd book in this series I have purchased. This is a great book, though I prefer the World Tour book over this one. This is mostly because I was expecting something else. I was expecting a book detailing events in history. This book goes though various times in history:

The book is well done - colorfully illustrated and fun for all ages - from my 4 and 9 year old, to myself! Each page has about 20 things for you to find, in a search and find style, and a short description or explanation of each item and how it relates to the time period. All in all, it's an excellent series!
Entertaining along with educational!.......2001-03-29
This series is wonderful. Very entertaining for children to find the picture but the education that goes along with this is magnificent! The Great History Search leaves hours of entertainment for the entire family and really sparks the History curiosity in the child. This book is my 10 year olds favorite in the series. The illustrations are very detailed and get those little minds thinking.
Fun and also instructive.......2000-02-10
Detailed illustrations of lives of people in various periods. Illustrations are quite fun to see. Close up of characteristic figures are closed up with descriptions.
I bought this book for my 10-year-old son, who loves to play "Age of Empire" and becomes curious about history. He loves it because of the closed up pictures even though he can't read English yet. The illustrations convey the atmosphere of each age well.

The best books for kids....years of enjoyment!.......2006-12-12
I cannot say enough about these books...my kids have enjoyed them now for 4 years... and every little friend that comes over loves them too. We got three of them as a gift (animals, bugs, and sea life)and they have gotten more use than any other activity books we've ever received. Older and younger kids read/look at them together too since some animals are easier to find and some are very challenging (big kids can read while little kids find too). Great activity for kids by themselves or with parents!!!
AWESOME BOOK!.......2004-08-03
WOW! This is one of those books that screams for attention! The illustrations are incredibly detailed and intense! We've used this book to learn geography - the locations of the animals and my oldest daughter taught herself how to read by searching for the animals in this book!
Use this book for the relunctant reader....it is definitely a book that will enhance a parent and child relationship - if the parent and child search together!

Book Description
This is the first re-appraisal in 50 years of concepts of development made in birds. This book is a case study in evolutionary diversification of life histories. Although birds have a rather uniform body plan and physiology, they exhibit marked variation in development type, parental care, and rate of growth. Altricial birds are fully dependent on their parents for warmth and nutrition and begin posthatching life in a more or less embryonic condition. At the other extreme, such superprecocial species as the megapodes are independent of all parental care from hatching, and the neonate, able to fly, resembles an adult bird. This book thus attempts to present an integrative perspective of organism biology, ecology, and evolution.

This is an updated and expanded version of this Taschen title originally published in 1996 as part of their "Jumbo" series. This second edition has been published at a more convenient size as well as at half the price of the original. The first edition was the most complete volume on the full breadth of Starck's prolific output. This second edition retains all of the visual impact and stylish layout of the original while including numerous Starck projects of the past several years. This book epitomises who Philippe Starck is. There are a lot of surprises & fun in this book that got me grinned from ear to ear. Who needs literature of him when the pictures of his works speak louder than words? Having said that, essays written by the great man himself at the end of the book potrayed him as a great visionary, a man ahead of his time rather than being a populist culture buffoon that some of my friends described of him. In today's rat-race world, it's good to have someone like him producing items that manage to stir our emotions & making our hearts miss a beat. In more ways than one, he's very French: unpredictable, daring, romantic, playful, enchanting, elegant,& just be himself! Viva La France~~ I can't help wondering what's next?

Public relations is commonly viewed as using "persuasive communications" to achieve a client's vested goal. Kruckeberg and Starck challenge this oversimplified approach, asserting that public relations is a complex, multi-flow process that should--and can--affect society as a whole. In Part I, they examine critically the historical definition and practice of public relations, outlining the shortcomings of this narrow approach. Part II explores how the "community" itself has changed. Such issues as the shift from rural to urban life and the attempt to regain a sense of community are discussed. Part III attempts to reconcile the authors' new notion of public relations and community through an in-depth case-study. The results lead the authors to conclude that only if public relations is practiced as an active attempt to build a sense of community can it become a full partner in the communications milieu.

I Love to get designers books. And in this case, the Philippe Starck one is one i picked up a while ago.
I had this book in my hands before, and its so nice, that i decided to pick up one for me, and an other for my girl friend!

Well done; designed to enlighten and entertain........1999-07-25
An entertaining and thoughtful journey through the career and the mind of this prolific celebrity designer. Illustrates hundreds of furnishings, objects, interiors, and architectural projects; some of which are documented here for the first time. Clean and interesting graphic layout by Keith Lovegrove captures the spirit of the "Starck aesthetic". Conway Lloyd Morgan's essays and commentaries by Starck himself do much to explain the inspiration and creative process of this enigmatic and controversial most-modern designer. Numerous books about the work of Philippe Starck have been published over the past several years, some on par with this one however, at the published price (and even less through amazon.com) this is a wealth of entertaining information for a small price.
