The Earth and Its Peoples: a Global History, Brief Ed: Complete
Richard W. Bulliet , Pamela Crossley , and Daniel Headrick Manufacturer: Houghton Mifflin Company ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0618471146 |
Book Description
Although this brief edition is two-thirds the length of its full-length counterpart, it retains coverage of all major themes and provides a truly global perspective on world history, without over-emphasizing Europe or the U.S. The Earth and Its Peoples focuses on the interaction of human beings and the environment, using this central theme to compare different times, places, and societies. Special emphasis is given to technology and how technological development underlies all human activity.
Ideal for one-semester survey courses or courses where instructors want to supplement their textbook with many primary sources, this text has been carefully abbreviated to maintain the essential narrative of world history. Specific areas of improved coverage are the early Americas, Russia, the Enlightenment, the Renaissance, and the Industrial Revolution. Structural updates include earlier coverage of the Americas and a chronologically organized section on the period from 1945 to the present.

Art Deco and Modernist Carpets

ASIN: 0811836134 |
Book Description
The design revolutions of the early 20th century were woven into the very fabric of the carpets and rugs of that era. Art Deco and Modernist Carpets, the first in-depth history, charts the evolution of carpet design out of the floral effusions of the Victorian salons and into the angular elegance of Art Deco and bold abstraction of Modernism popularized by the machine age. Such artists and designers as Picasso, Poiret, Gray, Delaunay, Matisse, Klee, and many more advanced the designs going on underfoot, making these rugs extremely collectible artworks in their own right. Generously sized and beautifully illustrated with over 250 full-color photographs, here are Art Deco and Modernist carpets at their most glorious.Customer Reviews:

ASIN: 0764323202 |
Book Description
By the second half of the 1920s, old-fashioned Victorian morals had gone the way of starched collars and cruel corsets and a "no holds barred" attitude reigned in their place. "The Party of the Century" had begun in earnest and fashions responded by climbing to the knees! Using a combination of vintage images, professional photographs of existing garments, and period artists' illustrations, this comprehensive book presents a dazzling look at fashions from 1925 through 1929. Fashions for men, women, and children are featured, including evening wear, day wear, coats and jackets, lounge and resort wear, sports fashions, and lingerie. Whenever possible, styles are shown with their appropriate accessories, such as hats, shoes, purses, fans, parasols, and more. Fascinating timelines place the fashions in their proper setting, describing each year's film, music, literary, and couture trends. Among the book's many highlights are rare French pochoir fashion plates and photos of an original haute couture Chanel evening gown. This in-depth look at one of our most exciting decades will appeal to fashion enthusiasts and history buffs alike. A companion volume covers the years 1920 to 1924.Customer Reviews:

The BEAU MONDE.......2000-10-04
Martin Battersby traces the transformation of the dressmaker to couturier during the Art Deco period. This was a time when the fashion illustrater was almost as big as the designer and the book covers illustrators such as Paul Iribe and Erte. There are over 100 illustrations, many in colour. It is a great reference book.
