If ever a book was designed for opening the eyes of Jr. High students, as well as adults looking for a bit of a "refresher course," this is it. It presents our presidents in a quick, concise manner, that makes one want to delve further into their lives and times. I bought this book for my second grader. He loves it. The book is colorful and interesting. It has a quick outline of each president as well as information on goverment and how it was formed. I even enjoy reading through it.

English as a Second Language.......2007-01-04

I purchased this book as a gift for a young boy in Germany who is studying English. He wrote me a thank-you note (in English) saying tne book is "brilliant." Even the adults around him had great fun looking at this lively book. I was attracted to the interactive format of the book. It can be used with the internet.

AWESOME!.......2006-02-23

This is a beautiful book that encourages children to learn about their world. Information is provided in bits, making it easy for children to digest. In addition, the internet links provide unlimited learning on the topics in the book. As far as the person who complained that they showed a photo of NYC without the World Trade Centers, I think you need to be aware that the book was published in 2002 and the WTC no longer was there, nor will ever be there in the future. Don't we need to depict the here and now truth in our books for children?

Colorful book - bias presentation.......2005-09-22

While the book is well made and quite educational, I can not avoid but see the bias of the publisher in presenting the "world." I almost wonder what world are they presenting? P. 52-53 the "City" depicting NYC without WTC, and the picture of a Mosque in the middle of their "city" (no other religious buildings there i.e. no church or synagogue near by). Living in post 9/11 America I find this offensive. This is certainly not the "world" I would want my child to live in.

This is a colorful and interesting science text for a first to third grader and definitely worth the price. It has a neat internet link feature which I know my child will enjoy.

A must for any one interested in space.......2000-04-22

Having always been interested in the space program and particularly the astronauts that flew the missions, this book is definitely one of my favourites. What makes it so interesting is that it gives you a CV on all the astronauts, and therefore anyone who has any desire to become an astronaut can begin to see what is required. In the nutshell a superb book !

Charming.......2004-05-25

This is one of my all time favorite books. I wish I had a copy of it. It is about a tradional Japanese form of packaging different things, mostly food. The idea behind it is that when you present someone with a cake, say, and its nicely packaged they get the idea that you hope they enjoy the cake.
The five eggs of the title are sort of stacked up and bound with straw woven in an ingenious way. The photographs are lovely and the descriptions of the various packages are informative as well as evocotive. I once had the chance to see
How To Wrap Five Eggs at the Japan Society Library. Boy I wish I had that one too.

Brilliant.......2002-05-16

I got my hands on this book recently. Its a book which says most of the story through pictures. Its amazing to see how advanced Japanese ancient art is and how much we can learn about them.

the templates are too far off reality to be any useful. and there is only 1 picture of the prototype without comments or instructions.

This book does not come with a CD for the templates included into the book which is a major let down to any designer or production team. The first book was way better with a CD included and thats what made me take this book for granted.

This is THE book to turn to when fixing up your home to sell, or even if you are just looking for inexpensive fix-ups--this book covers everything, from each room individually, to the house as a unit, to even how to make the best of a bad view from the windows. Also, there is an extremely good section on how to decide whether you should or shouldn't use a broker to sell your home, how to conduct a home tour, etc.

Best of all, not only are most of the suggestions at or under $100, even though the book is a bit old ('86), they are things that anyone can do--not major undertakings which require a contractor.There are black and white photos of before and after rooms, which really show how just a little money, spent wisely, can make a huge difference in how your home will look to a potential buyer. Using this book as a guide, any home can show (and sell!) like a model home.
