Missing the English word "tree"?.......2007-10-09
En serio. Goes from "treaty" to "trek". That seems pretty sloppy. My old Cassel's contains 5 other words there besides "tree". We're talking typos too. How do you have typos in an age of computer spell checking? I'm not saying it isn't useful -- it's light, it has alot of words, it has idiomatic usage, pronunciation, irregular verb conjugation. But there's something about seeing a typo in a language reference book that kind of puts you off. Valazquez *claims* (in large type on their cover) to be the "preeminent authority" in spanish/english dictionaries for 150 years. Imagine a book that took a bunch of people 150 years to write. This is not that book.

The portable size and seeming comprehensiveness of this dictionary as well as its cost, were all the features that closed this sale. Unfortunately, food entries are notably absent. Otherwise it delivered fairly well.
Good for College Spanish II.......2007-09-14
This is not the original Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary. But the big one is just to heavy to carry to class. I can find every word I need for college Spanish II in this pocket edition. The dictionary is very portable and the print is big enought that I don't need a maganify glass.
I give it a four stars because I thought this is the original "Velazquez Spanish English Dictionary" in paperback. It is not. It is a concise edition. I guess I shouldn't expect a $5.99 dictionary have the same amount of words as a $28 dictionary.
Virtually useless.......2007-09-06
I have had this dictionary about a week. I am studying Spanish every day and only find about 1 out of 5 words I try to look up.
I was just doing an exercise and after looking up 5 words (Spanish to English) without finding any of them, I decided to write this review.
For me this dictionary is worthless. I wasted my money.
A convenient Spanish dictionary at a reasonable price.......2006-09-24
I like this dictionary for its word collections. It is not as complete as the 250,000 Velázquez Spanish and English Dictionary. I don't expect that. But the 75,000 entries are enough to cover regular daily uses.
I also like the font size. Often pocket dictionaries have the tiny font that you need a magnify glass to read it. The font size on this dictionary is proper.
The pronunciation keys on both Spanish and English are always a plus. The conjugation of irregular Spanish verbs is very helpful.

This large print dictionary makes word-finding unbelievably easy! It has large print so that words can be found quickly. And it's perfect for those who have a hard time seeing. It's not that hard to find a word because whereas with smaller, finer print dictionaries in which the words are all so compacted to fit into a 500+ page book and are much smaller, this book has them printed much larger and yet still has a lot to translate.
Perfect for Vision Impaired.......2006-06-27
My cousin and I got this dictionary because we both translate documents at work, and although it has fewer words than the regular Velazquez, it helps a lot when you read as much as we do, to have larger font words.
I would adsolutely recomend this to anyone who has vision problems. It's a Velazquez. Ofcourse I would recomend it. This one in particular though, is as all Velazquez easy to use, and much easier to read due to the large font. Its cover is pretty sterdy too, so I think it will last me a while.
The only hardcover Spanish and English Dictionary.......2005-12-16
I try to find a hardcover Spanish and English Dictionary for a gift, and surprisingly this is the only one available at Amazon. The font is large enough for mature readers without reading glasses and the word collection are good enough for every day usage. The price is amazingly low, Random House has a paperback one and it costs about the same, and Velázquez is a brand I can trust.

Other than not caring for the Castillian pronunciation, this is an excellent source book for my studies! It should help me master my Spanish because of having such a wellspring of words.

Nowadays I find myself look up words online more often then checking my hardcover dictionary. It is fast and costs me nothing. Buying a dictionary seems less important.
Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary have a support website called AskVelazquez.com. It is free, and I can ask questions, either for the new words that I can't find in the dictionary or grammar issues when I do the translation. I find this site very useful, and it makes my Velazquez Dictionary even more useful.
Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary also contain words from not just Spain and Mexico, but usages from Puerto Rico, Peru or Argentina. It is a very complete reference dictionary. I only wish there is an electronic version.
I LOVE this Dictionary!.......2006-06-29
I'd consider it to be the best Spanish/ English dictionary there is. It's the best because it's very comprehensive and has a wealth of knowledge in translating both languages. It has SO MANY words, which is like over 250,000 entries. What I also love about it is that it's been updated for the 21st century and also includes different types of Spanish words from different kinds of Spanish-speaking countries, not just Spain. I think it's perfect for Spanish teachers and for those students who are taking advanced Spanish courses. The color-coded thumb-indexes make it easy to flip through as well.
Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary.......2006-06-10
I have never found a more comprehensive dictionary in my experience with the English and Spanish Languages. Aside from being very helpful because of its guide to Spanish pronunciation, it includes useful color coded tabs, and even a list of currencies from Spain and Latin America. I would recommend this dictionary to anyone who needs the tools for everyday as well as academic bilingualism. It is a very impressive dictionary and I will never buy another one (unless this one is revised again).
A solid choice for Spanish literature.......2006-03-13
I have been using this dictionary to help with Spanish poetry and literature this semester, and it has been extremely helpful. I have been able to find all but a few words in here. Good multiple definitions provided to cover the various usages of each word; even subtle distinctions noted. Pages clearly marked and easy to use.
My only complaints are: several typographical errors that I have noticed, and does not explicitly indicate el/la or masc/fem for nouns (must determine from example sentences).
This dictionary was originally published in Spain, so all the pronunciation guides are for a generalized Spanish dialact--I wouldn't recommend it for beginning speakers of Latin-American Spanish, as it may be confusing (or simply overwhelming in its sheer size!). For intermediate to advanced speakers on either side of the Atlantic, though, I feel this would be a solid choice.

Easy to read, not as comprehensive as I would like.......2007-05-29
I bought this dictionary because I needed a new one for travel (and my Spanish vocabulary is very weak).
Positives: sturdy cover, very easy to read, compact, many entries
Negatives: the explanations for the words are not as comprehensive as I would like. My old 1970s Williams dictionary is much better in that regard. The Williams offers the word used in phrases (common and uncommon).
A MUST! .......2006-06-29
This dictionary is the best for traveling. I recently traveled to Spain and I know little to no Spanish at all. This dictionary helped me a lot. Not only is it lightweight and totally easy to carry, it is still durable and its pages are easy to flip through. When I needed it the most I had no trouble whipping this book out and finding the word I needed almost at the drop of a hat. And, of course, there are a whole lot of words still packed into this small dictionary. What I liked best though was the conversation guide in the back which totally got me around when I needed it!
World Wide Spanish English Dictionary.......2006-06-09
This dictionary is the easiest to use ever. Its permanence is obvious from the beginning. It has the most durable cover I have ever seen, and what makes it even better is its content. The two colored sections, blue for Spanish and gray for English is extremely helpful when one is in a hurry, since it allows for much faster usage. Its extensive coverage of up to date words is impressive as well. I have not seen another dictionary include as many current words as this one does. The guide to Spanish pronunciation at the beginning of the dictionary has been very helpful as well. It is very detailed as well as extensive. Finally, as if everything I have mentioned was not enough, this dictionary also includes a traveler's conversation guide which I know will come in very handy when I start my travels. I recommend it for all, but especially for those who need the whole package in a dictionary.
Best Spanish/English Dictionary I've Found So Far.......2006-02-19
I searched through a lot of Spanish/English dictionaries at the bookstore, trying to find one that includes comprehensible phonetic spellings (including marks to indicate which syllable is emphasized) for the Spanish word entries. This dictionary met that criterion.
After using this dictionary for a while, I've come to appreciate other design strengths as well, including:
- the cover is a nice flexible vinyl material that seems to be very durable,
- the size of the book is perfect for portability (not too small though),
- the word entries are in blue, while the definitions are in black (and are indented), making the entries stick out and easy to find,
- the tops of the Spanish/English section pages are blue, while the tops of the English/Spanish section pages are gray, making the sections easy to locate, and
- there is a section on verb conjugation (including irregular verbs).
I think I'm going to buy another one of these to keep at work or in my car.
Great for students.......2005-09-10
I bought three copies. This dictionary is great for students who are studying Spanish. The cover is very durable. I like the color text, which is easy for me to find the word I am looking for. The dictionary is quite thin, especially considering it has 640 pages. The publisher must use a special paper to make the dictionary portable. A high quality dictionary with a reasonable price.

What a Great Resource for Families!.......2007-03-09
I bought this book to replace a copy I borrowed from a friend and promptly wore out, because it was so handy. My husband is a very particular eater, and he hasn't liked most of the meals I've brought home from the meal prep places, like Super Suppers. But, he's enjoyed most of the meals I've made with Saving Dinner. And, with the menu and grocery list planned out by week, I don't spend the two hours menu planning and making up the grocery list. I even have had success with the crock-pot meals, which I haven't done well in the past with other recipes. (I do find that my slow cooker takes a lot less time than the recipe calls for, so I cut my cooking time by a couple of hours and use a meat thermometer to determine if it's done.)
The recipes are easy to make. The menus are grouped by season so that you can take advantage of produce at it's height. I find the book is most effective when you make every dish for the week, rather than pick and choose recipes. Then you can optimize the menu and grocery list. We've been pleasantly surprised when we do that even the dishes that we weren't too excited reading about have turned out to be tasty.
I may use this book to organize a meal planning night with friends once a month because I do miss that comaraderie you get at the meal prep places. It'll be interesting to see if that would be involved/easy or cost effective over the meal prep places.
Overall, this book is a huge timesaver, we may be able to use with friends to do some prep nights, has saved us money by keeping us out of the restaurants and drive-thru's, and we are around the dinner table more! It'd be a great gift for newlyweds. I wish I'd had something like YEARS ago!
Excellent food and we're losing weight!.......2007-02-19
I have about 30 Low Carb Cookbooks, and along with George Stella's two (which I love), this one is getting a LOT of use. One of the things I like about it is that you don't have to buy unusual items to make these meals...no guar gum, no flax seed, no whey protein powder, no things-you've-never-heard-of-and-don't-know-where-to-buy sort of ingredients. So far, only one recipe was mediocre (sauteed scallops on spinach). But the spiced pork chops tonight were great, and the bang-bang taco soup was easy and tasty. So was the Mediterranean Chicken. I think the shopping lists are an excellent idea, and I also like the idea of the seasonal menus (though I've been bouncing around from place to place in the book, making what sounds good and what's on sale at the supermarket.) Tomorrow's dinner? Chicken in Bourbon sauce. Can't wait.
Low-carb cooking.......2007-01-10
Very helpful book. A lot of great recipes that are not hard to do. The shopping lists tell you just what to get to have meals a week at a time.If I was an organized person that cooked this would be the perfect book to have!
