A great choice for a high school (AP) statistics course.......2006-04-21
I am a teacher of AP Statistics (since its inception in 1997) with a master's degree in statistics. I agree with many of the previous reviews that this is NOT a mathematical statistics textbook. If you need a textbook that goes through the mathematics, especially the theory, behind the statistics then you need to look at another textbook. This book was designed for a statistics course for non-mathematicians (especially students with no Calculus background), which is why it is not terse and it has lots of repetitive problems. I have used four different textbooks for AP Statistics as a teacher and this is the only one I have ever used that got consistent rave reviews from my students. For a high school student with only Algebra II or pre-Calculus as a background, this is a very readable and easy to follow textbook, as opposed to other AP Stat textbooks which incorporate too much of the theory for this level of student. Many of my students have told me that this was the only math textbook that they have ever been able to read, and understand, on their own.

I agree with the previous reviewer Jason --- this book is very good in helping a first-time learner understand statistics applied to real-life situations. Usually university teachers don't make good choices for course textbooks but in this case, this book is absolutely the most correct choice.

Great book for quants.......2007-09-30
This is a great book if you want to be a quant or are interested in using mathematical methods for finance purposes. There are not many good books in this field and this one is definitely one of the few good ones out there.
However, this book is not for people with little background in math.

The book earns 4 stars for how it combines what has been out there for some time with Matlab functionality. What one would have appreciated though is something about all the new stuff that has evolved in the last few years (e.g. credit risk, etc.)

The study guide only had selected answers.......2006-03-20
I thought it was ok because the guide did not have all of the odd problems worked out. Usually a study has all the odd problems answered. Without it, you are left wondering if the guide has an explanation at all for the problem.
When the it does have the answers, it explains it very well and does not leave any doubt about the solution.

Not what I expected.......2007-06-27
This is mostly just a glossary for terms in each chapter. I was expecting more of a "cliff notes" type book. If you need to review vocabulary, fine, but if you want more, this is not the book for you.

THIS WAS THE BEST OF THE FIRST 4 BOOKS!! Seriously, my favorite!! From the beginning to the end is amazing and very surprising. I didn't want to stop reading. Im a girl of 13 years old and I seriously recomend the series to grade 7 to up.

I love this book , and I love the character Jesse. This book is nothing but nonstop action and thrills , and some parts are so sad , and how Suze does to get Jesse back is certainly is unexpected. Although the new character Paul is very intriguing and I like his character , I can't wait to read the next book to find out about him.And I love the ending . Meg cabot really undone herself this time!
The Mediator .......2006-04-24
The fourth book of the series The Mediator did not fail to deliver a great and wonderful thrill. Susannah is still trying to live a normal teenage life without any ghosts interfering, besides Jesse her ghost friend that haunts her room. Susannah soon finds out its going to be harder than she thought, when she discovers a young boy who is a mediator just like herself. Things also get worse when she discovers that the young kid's brother Paul has a crush on Susannah.
While she is trying to deal with all this stuff, her stepbrothers accidentally dig up Jesse's dead body in their backyard. Since Jesse's body was discovered Jesse has no reason to stick around in the real world and gets sent to the ghost world. Now Susannah wants to bring Jesse back to the real world, but when Susannah finds out that Jesse was killed by his girlfriend many years ago, Jesse's girlfriend comes back from the dead to try to stop Susannah from finding out anything else. How is Susannah going to get Jesse back and deal with everything that's going on at the same time? Read the book to find out
I loved this book this was the best book of the series so far, because it added new enemies that Susannah has to worry about. I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery and action books. I would also tell them to read the whole series first because they are all good books.
