This is a wonderful book for beginning or student interpreters (especially those whose working languages are French and/or Spanish), with a concise introduction to the profession followed by 18 chapters of exercises focused on specific areas, such as word order and collations, dealing with numbers and quotes, and note-taking.
Moreover, I think that experienced interpreters would also benefit from many of the exercises in this book, especially those aimed at honing diction and register skills. The chapter on figures of speech alone would make this book a worthwhile purchase.

good book, but too oriented to UN conference interpreting. Some sections are not exactly interpreting exercises and others could be more related to the fields of medicine and the law. It is a bit elitist (UN interpreters)but well written. The author seems to be a very thorough, well-trained specialist

Very good book. It adresses more United Nations interpreting but may also be applied to other areas. It will require a seasoned interpreter or faculty to point out the differences with other fields of interpreting, such as medical or legal.

This workbook contains more than 500 actual ECG strips (half are new to this edition) -- students can test their skills at ECG interpretation, and discover the areas in which they need improvement. Introductory chapters on anatomy and physiology, electrophysiology, waveforms, intervals, segments and complexes, monitoring equipment, lead placement, and steps in analyzing a rhythm strip form a strong foundation for learning. Practice strips come complete with an answer key, so that students gain confidence in arrhythmia interpretation. A two-part post test allows students to self-test their arrhythmia interpretation skills. An electrocardiogram conversion table is provided on the inside back cover for more precise rate calculation.

Very Useful book for Students and Teachers.......2007-04-17
I use this book as a textbook in the course I teach on ECG interpretation. It is clear and concise, yet provides the reader with sufficient background information that is needed in a clinical environment. Futhermore, this book provides the most ECG strips of its competitors allowing students to develop practical skills.
Amazing book!!! Here is why.......2006-11-27
When I was in paramedic school, I was having some difficulties with some of the rhythm strips at first, especially in measuring waveform distances, as well as a Mobitz 2 heart block. This book helped me put ECG's together. It starts from the very beginning, such as what the waveforms mean, what distances should be for said waveforms, and finally explanations of each rhythm, where they begin (location wise in the heart) and what they mean. At the end of each chapter, it has a review of the rhythm's you just discussed, by interpreting 10-20 strips. At the end of the book there was 200 some random strips. By the end of cardiology, I could read pretty much any strip that was thrown at me, and I occasionally go back and practice, plus reread some information about some of the ECG's we see in the field and what causes them and how to treat them. This book is great, and I would recommend it to anyone going to school to be a paramedic, RN, PA, RNP, or MD.

After The Third Policeman and The Turn of the Screw, I thought this would be a snoozefest, but it was actually very interesting. I'm not sure who left it or why (do I sound paranoid? I don't mean to sound paranoid), but I think the information may prove useful down the road....

Anyone who ever heard Sadguru Sant Keshavadas speak, as I did, became instantly mesmerized by the beauty and wisdom of his speech. He was equally gifted at sharing great truths through the written word. Gayatri: The Highest Meditation is not only a treasure of ancient vedic wisdom revealed by a genuine guru but the lanquage is so poetic as to sparkle and shimmer with a light all its own. Sant Keshavadas conveys the teaching on mediation, God and why we should devote ourselves to practice with a voice that rings divine. I could not read his work without feeling a sweet celestrial thrill that let me know I was connecting with something vital.
Sant Keshavadas introduces the readers to fascinating Sanskrit terminology then explains the true meaning. His exposition on the "OM" is worth the price of the book. Westerners have long poked fun at the sound, having no idea of what it truly signifies. No matter what religion one comes from readers of Gayatri will expand their sense of God's power and grace feel inspired to seek a closer relationship, an inner-relationship. The quest for God may be pursued in a group but the experience is still intensely personal. This book reminds us we must take an active interest in our own illumination, if we would acheive it.

The introductory chapters offer the nurse or clinician a very good guide to interpretation of ECGs. The different diagnoses are explained and details are given of what these can look like on the ECG recording. A helpful guide for the novice, or a good text to have around to act as a reference.
the book to use if you really expect to read ECG's.......1999-03-17
The first two chapters provide plenty of introduction, and are quite well written. My guess is that Dr. Taylor is an enthusiastic teacher and a clear thinker. But the great advantage of the book is the practice tracings. The reproduction is excellent, and there is a wide variety. For example, there are more than 70 that are of ischemic patterns. Taylor's interpretations are brief but informative, and he provides a number of clinical pearls. I read the book using the method he suggested: writing my interpretation, then reading answers after a batch of 10-20. By the time I was halfway through, I had a fair amount of confidence. As a beginning 4th year student, I now am better at ECG interpretation than almost all of our medical residents at Stanford.
Excellent overview of basic EKG.......1997-05-01
As a medical student, it is difficult to become proficient at EKG analysis simply from clerkships. Taylor's book is an excellent, comprehensive compilation of 150 EKG's. The tracings are of excellent quality, and represent a broad variety of common abnormalities. After reading an EKG, you can check Taylor's succint interpretation at the back of the book. After going through this book, I can confidently read EKGs quickly and accurately.
Read Dubin's EKG book for the basics and then Taylor's to practice your skills

I am working as a research fellow at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and have direct contact with the authors of this excellent book. There are lots of results of original investigations by the authors, and I think they are the ones who know the most about this topic in the world! Almost all papers on CPET quote this book as a reference. If you are in the respiratory medicine specialty with interest in CPET, this is a must-read.

I have owned this book and CD-ROM for several years. As a web designer, and someone specializing in Ancient Egypt, I have used this book so many times I have lost count! Filled with many images from turn of the 20th century resources and those from antiquity, it is something I have given to friends and has been met with lots of excited "Oohs!" and "Ahh's!" The copyright free art definitely can add alot to any article, website or project you are doing.

Great fun, you find a use. Many illustrations from 19th C. sources. Sphinx, mummies, mourners, chariots, gods, this book's got 'em all! As with the other Dover clip art books/CD-ROMs you can pull them off the CD-ROM without actually importing them onto your HD. This collection is among my favorites, along with Dover's books & reading, food & drink and animals software sets.

I love Dover's CD ROM & Book series. In fact, I would classify myself as a junkie. I have every Egyptian-related release that Dover has ever published, and while the illustrations in the book are very striking and crisp, if you look at the TIF's on the enclosed CD ROM, they are extremely amateurish and sloppy. If you are thinking about using them for any sort of web or book project, then without a doubt you will be spending a great deal of time doing cleanup and colour re-adjustment in Photoshop, Paintshop Pro or another graphics editor. The colours of items, glyphs and fleshtones are not at all consistent to Ancient Egyptian artistic canon and grammar. Also, there is an almost excessive use of the colour orange within the geometric patterns as well. One gets the feeling you have seen the same pattern over and over again with very few variations on a theme.
