Internet marketing is an exciting way for home-based entrepreneurs to get started in their own business. Books such as this one provide an excellent resource to learn basic concepts and to validate what you may already know or practice.

I found the information on Google and Yahoo adequate. I beleive the author was attempting to just introduce you to the concept of advertising with Google and Yahoo, as in Google Adwords and Yahoo Sponsored Searches. After grasping the concept of using pay per click advertising, the reader can then go to various online resources to get detailed information straight from the source.

I would recommend this book to people just getting started in Internet marketing. Also, you may want to check out Ron Taylor's book below for information on getting started making money with paid surveys and affiliate marketing.

4 out of 5 stars Not just about eBay.......2006-07-10

Actually this book IS evenly divide between eBay, Yahoo and Google. Chapters 1-11 are about eBay, 12-21 cover Yahoo, and 22-29 are about Google. We found this book VERY helpful for developing e-commerce solutions for existing businesses. It has some formulas to use for computing ROI on AdWords that I found particularly useful.

2 out of 5 stars Book Should Be Called "eBay 101" Instead.......2006-05-30

I was disappointed in this book because it made me believe that it would be about Yahoo! and Google equally with eBay. However, this book was all about eBay with a tiny sprinkling of Yahoo! and Google here and there -- certainly not enough to include Yahoo! and Google in the title of the book. The book has 29 chapters. It doesn't stop talking about eBay until Chapter 21 then resumes its eBay discussion in Chapter 29.

The book should have been called "eBay 101" or "eBay for Not-So-Dumb Dummies." It does have good information for a complete eBay newbie but I would recommend other books for the non-eBay savvy newcomer like Adam Ginsberg's book: How to Buy, Sell, and Profit on eBay or eBay Powerseller Secrets by Debra and Brad Schepp. In fact, those two books I just mentioned alone should be all you need to get started if you want to make money on eBay.

Pass on this book. It's a rip off. The title is not appropriate and designed to deceive people into believing that the book will give you a strong online selling strategy with a successful mix of eBay, Yahoo!, and Google when that isn't the case. It's all about eBay with a few words dropped in here and there about Yahoo! and Google.

3 out of 5 stars Neat book as long as it's not defective........2007-09-28

Like others have said, the batteries in this lasted for just a couple of days before the light didn't work. I contacted the company and the customer service was great. I received a reply that day and was sent two sets of batteries. However, they didn't last more than a couple of days either. I contacted customer service once again and they will be sending a replacement book, but I was chastised for letting my daughter play with it during the day. I guess I should have told them that she only plays with it at night and doesn't carry it around with her in the daylight! Good grief. The book itself isn't that great, but the moon feature makes it special...when it works!

5 out of 5 stars Noggin's Mom.......2007-08-18

I bought this book for my son several months ago and he loves the moon's light. the batteries finally gave out this week and I tried the number that Fox Mulder posted in his review and it really does work... they do send out free batteries and don't even charge shipping anymore! I ordered some, of course, but then also found them at a Michael's Craft store the next day... a 6 pack was only 99 cents so I bought a pack because I didn't think my son could last one more night with the moon but the free ones coming in the mail will be handy as backups.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2007-07-02

This is a great book. The only reason it does not get a 5 is because the batteries wear out so fast, but other than that, my son loves it!

5 out of 5 stars A must have.......2007-06-20

My 5 year old found this book for his brother who was at the time only 3 months old. He is now 11 months old and I must say both of our boys (the 5 yr old and 10 mo old)really enjoy the story and like the images of the actual book inside the book. Plus the thick cardboard pages makes it easier for our 11 mo old to hold the book and turn the pages himself. We have been very lucky with the battery had no problems! Well worth it's low price!

3 out of 5 stars Cute but not great story.......2007-06-18

The story is ABOUT the book. Like "My favorite book is about the moon" and it shows a realistic image of the book being carried by the little boy. I find it weird, sort of a mirror in a mirror in a mirror type of existential issue. The moon is cute and my daughter loves to make it light up. But I wish the plot was about the MOON not the book itself.

5 out of 5 stars Sharp, Sweet, Stealthy.......2004-10-14

I don't know why I waited so long to read this stellar collection. I agree with the other reviewers--the very best selections might be "Flowers in the Dustbin" and "Grog" and "Poison in the Human Machine," and of course the title story, but they're all good with moments or lines that are amazing. There is geniune emotion in Nissen's stories, and geniune insight in girls growing up, which is what I look for and hope for but rarely ever find. I haven't enjoyed a book so much since Jennifer Paddock's novel, A SECRET WORD, came out in the spring. It's that good! I couldn't recommend OUT OF THE GIRLS' ROOM AND INTO THE NIGHT more highly.

5 out of 5 stars Another Iowa success story.......2004-06-03

Being a student at The University of Iowa, where the author attended the number one writers workshop in the nation, I know her ability. This collection is so real and relatable. The stories paint beautiful pictures of what life is like. If you want to read something real with great language and presence this is it!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2004-05-23

Very believable, original, emotionally-evocotive work. As I read these stories I feel admiration for the author's sensitivity, deep life-awareness and skillful use of language to convey her characters and their situations. They are jammed with aliveness and flavour. Very enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and disarming collection of short stories!.......2004-04-28

Out of the Girls' Room and Into the Night has several of the most memorable short stories I've read as of late. This collection of quirky and disarming stories is thought provoking and disturbing at times. The ones that touched me the most were the ones centered on eating disorders, infidelity and death. "Grog," "The Mushroom Girl," "Flowers in the Dustbin, Poison in the Human Machine," and "Accidental Love" are my favorites. The aforementioned stories spoke to me. Are you in the bargain for a literary short story collection centered on women? I suggest you pick up this gem!

4 out of 5 stars exceptional.......2003-08-05

This book was very good, but I didn't write a review to praise this book, only to coreect "Tiara"'s misconception. Gwynne doesn't end up with Donovan because of alcohol. Do you know why she had to tell herself, "I can do this, I can do this . . ." She is a lesbian who is in love with her best friend, and she feels betrayed when Darcy hooks up with a guy. Gwynne obviously isn't ready to tell Darcy how she feels, so when Darcy hooks up with Donovan's best friend--Gwynne decides to play it straight, so to speak. I missed this the first time I read it, along with other themes in some of the other stories.

1 out of 5 stars Not good at all.......2007-08-30

I honestly don't understand why anyone would consider the plot of this book to be a good one. I thought it was actually silly, without any credibility and filled with poorly written dialogues. Around 2/3 of the book I just didn't care about what would happen in the end and stopped reading. I have never felt the slightest desire to pick it up again to finish it.

5 out of 5 stars Peter Straub At His Best.......2007-02-09

Respected and acclaimed children's author Willy Patrick is losing her mind. Several years after her husband and daughter were killed in a vicious gang-related attack; she's convinced that somewhere, her daughter Holly is still alive. Helpless in the face of a manic compulsion controlling her every move, Willy finds herself obsessed with an empty, abandoned warehouse, knowing that somehow her dead daughter is hidden in its dark depths. Plagued by strange nightmares, gaps of "missing time", and doubts about her upcoming marriage to the enigmatic and mercurial Mitchell Faber, Willy is desperate to unravel the heart-wrenching tangle of lies her life has become.

At the same time, successful yet haunted suspense author Timothy Underhill is headed for another "bad patch". His life has always been entwined with the supernatural; he's haunted by his dead sister April's ghost, attuned to a world most don't realize exists, and over time he's made an uneasy peace with these state affairs - but something's changed. Suddenly, people from his past are sending him strange, barely intelligible emails....but that's impossible, because all these folks are dead. Also, April's ghost is everywhere, silently warning him of something, what he doesn't know, but instinct tells him he's at the eye of supernatural hurricane the likes he's never seen before. It doesn't help matters that he's falling behind on his current novel and he's being stalked by an obsessed fan that's possibly insane and dangerous, but no one said being a bestselling author with a connection to the spirit world would be easy.

By chance or fate Willy and Tim meet, and when both realize the chilling parallels between Willy's life and the novel Tim's writing, they form an unlikely partnership to combat the evil that's slowly but inevitably creeping into their lives. When they reach the heart of the supernatural storm that buffets them, they'll be shocked, amazed, and horrified - as they come to an understanding of the universe that'll change them forever.

Peter Straub has once again written a marvelous metafictional work that blurs the line between reality and fiction, blending storylines to create a tapestry that's confounding and enlightening all at once. Peter Straub revisits his haunted author Timothy Underhill, (Throat, Divided Man), with grace, continuing to flesh out his version of the "reluctant hero" - a literary counterpart of Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas, (Odd Thomas, Forever, Odd, Brother Odd), and T.L. Hines's Jude Allman, (Waking Lazarus), and he switches back and forth between the first and third person narrative effortlessly, which lesser writers wouldn't be able to do.

As a winner of the Bram Stoker Award, In The Night Room has a chilling touch, one that makes the reader look over their shoulder on a rainy day and think twice about leaving their closet open at night. Readers probably won't view spam email the same way ever again after reading this story, and Straub's musings on the metaphysical nature of creating through writing is thought-provoking, to say the least. Willy and Timothy Underhill do have several sexual encounters through the tale, but they are tastefully and tenderly written. As with his other Underhill novels, Straub leaves behind signs that we'll see more of his haunted writer as the nefarious and diabolical Mitchell Faber promises Underhill that he's not seen the last of him.

The best thing about In The Night Room - it's unpredictable. So many novels - both Christian and mainstream - are far too predictable these days, and it's hard to find a good read that takes you places you'd never imagine. This novel is one of those favored few, but it will be up to you to decide if you're ready to brave the night room.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, engaging dark fantasy.......2007-02-06

Here's the good thing about being a book lover in love with a book lover: you get to introduce each other to things you may never have read otherwise. A while back, my girlfriend gave me a copy of Peter Straub's lost boy lost girl, which I liked quite a big. But the real reason she had me read it was so she could then get me to read the sequel, In the Night Room, which actually blew me away.

Some months after the events of lost boy lost girl, novelist Tim Underhill has written a book fictionalizing the tragic loss of his nephew and the truth about a killer that rocked his hometown. Now, work on his new book is being disturbed by a crazed fan with a weird theory, spectral apparitions, and bizarre e-mails with no domain names in the address.

Meanwhile another writer, young adult novelist Willy Patrick, is planning her upcoming wedding to a ruthless man with a secretive job. An unexpected violent act of nature reveals a horrible secret, and Willy goes on the run.

For the first half of the book, Straub develops the two stories concurrently, but without any connectivity. Then the two tales, Tim's and Willy's, collide in a wholly unexpected and incredibly creative twist. Everything we have read thus far is suddenly cast into a new light, and the understanding of what's truly happening to our heroes makes for a brilliant dark fantasy.

The powerful blend of spirituality and metafiction causes us to go back to the beginning of the first book to question the nature of Straub's reality. The story is about writing and creating as much as it is about murderers and demons. Straub is also a more reflective writer than others of a similar stripe. Where Stephen King (for example) would end this book with a physical battle against the evil, Staub engages in a war of words and understanding -- the goal of this book is not to kill the beast, but to truly comprehend it, and this is every bit as engaging as a more conventional battle.

The book's only real flaw comes in the form of a sort of "guide" Tim occasionally converses with. The character, whom Tim only encounters online, insists on speaking int he online "l33t" slang, which is sort of clever when we get the explanation as to why, but then becomes frustrating as he continues to speak in that fashion. Maybe I'm just oversensitive because I'm a ninth grade teacher, but I've got to read papers with poor spelling and grammar all day, I don't want that in my pleasure reading as well.

Still, it's a really strong book and one that spoke to me in a lot of ways. I'll definitely keep looking for more Straub.

5 out of 5 stars Lyrical and haunting.......2006-12-08

Timothy Underhill (lost boy lost girl) makes a return appearance in this fascinating book that examines the thin line between fantasy and reality as a character from his latest book (in the early stages) comes to life. Others have beautifully summarized the plot and examined its meaning, so I won't waste your time here; just go and get it, especially if you liked "lost boy lost girl."

5 out of 5 stars One of his best.......2006-12-03

This great novel pairs with its twin novel Lost Boy, Lost Girl and both are superb! It's a book for lovers of great literature and horror. The two meets not very often but always went Peter Straub is holding the pen. Here we learn more about his recurent alter ego, Tim Underhill. Bravo, Peter! Keep working, it's always a pleasure to read you.

3 out of 5 stars Boaring for the most part........2005-04-04

The reason it was boaring was because they do the
same thing over and over until the end of the book.
It would be more interesting if they had a better conflick or problem in the story. When i said that they do the same thing over and over again I mean that the teenagers kept going in and kept going out until the end of the story when the things start to change up.

4 out of 5 stars The Night RoomBy E. M. Goldman.......2004-11-29

The Night Room was a very exciting book! It is filled with adventure and action. The main character in this story is a teenage boy named Ira. Ira is a smart, nice boy that goes to Banting High School. He lives in a small cold town. Later in the book he is asked to join a class that will attend a new technology called Argus that will let him see his future! He later finds out when he is in the program Argus that the girl he had loved since elementary school was to die that year! He tries to find out how to save her. Can he save her? You will just have to find out by reading this interesting science-fiction book yourself. I thought it was very cool because of all the rising actions. Maybe you will like it to.

4 out of 5 stars Night Room.......2004-02-26

I found Night Room an entertaining book. I found myself not having to rack my brain in order to figure out plots ect. It was a very interesting read with a good concept and great ideas. Finding out the futur of the characters was especially interesting and you got to know and love each of them

1 out of 5 stars "The Night Room", not what i thought.......2003-05-24

The novel "The Night Room" is a book about seven high school students that go into a computer program, called Argus, that simulate their high school reunion. Each of them goes into Argus and each one finds out something has happened to one of them, death. They try to figure who died and try to prevent her from dying. This book didn't appeal to me because even though it would seem interesting and exciting, it is very boring, with little action and a small amunt of mystery. I would only recommend this book to people who like stories that aren't very exciting and people who like to read anything.

3 out of 5 stars The school boredom.......2003-03-28

Ok, I dont usually read books, though if they strike my fancy I might think about it. I have to read books for school for a thing called reading counts. Anyway I like Sci-Fi books more than any other. This was a fairly good book, though draggy in some areas it kept my attention (which is hard to do). Over all this is a fairly good book, read it if you have some free time.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully written as usual.......2001-12-12

Robert Benson has been a wonderful addition to my prayer life. He writes words that I could only think in my heart. This volume from the United Methodist Upper Room is filled with pictures of their Nativity creche collection. Mr. Benson writes about Joseph, Mary and other participants in the nativity story. The book is one I will read and reread each Advent season. It would be an excellent gift for friends and family.

      Book Description

Originally published in 1854, Ten Nights in a Bar-Room was the most important American temperance novel, rivaling Uncle Tom's Cabin for popularity at the time. It satisfied the appetite for the sensational and the lurid, yet at the same time was endorsed by all the clergy.
