Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Interest in the ways of the early church has never been more intense. What did early Christians believe about the divinity of Christ? What were the beliefs of those who sat at the feet of JesusÂ' disciples? Now, for the first time, a unique dictionary has been developed to allow easy access to the ancient material and furnish ready answers to these questions and others like them. David W. Bercot has painstakingly combed the writings of these early church leaders and categorized the heart of their thinking into more than 700 theological, moral, and historical topics to create A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs. Wonderfully suited for devotional or thematic study as well as sermon illustration, this resource offers a window into the world of the early church and affords a special opportunity to examine topically the thoughts of students of the original apostles, as well as other great lights in the life of the early church.

• Collects relevant comments on key Christian concepts from prominent figures such as Origen, Clement of Alexandria, Clement of Rome, and Hippolytus.
• Includes key biblical verses associated with a given topic.
• Offers brief definitions of unfamiliar terms or concepts, allowing easy access to the ancient material.
• Provides a "Who's Who" of ante-Nicene Christianity to put in context the ancient Christian writers.
• Discusses more than 700 key theological, moral, and historical topics.
• Gives strategic cross-reverences to related topics.
• Functions as a topical index to the writings of the Ante-Nicene Fathers.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for Pastors.......2007-07-03

when you are preparing a sermon you like to quote as much as possible the understanding of scripture of great christian of the past and the present. In this book you will find excellent quotes of the early centuries of the Christian Church about difficult matters clearly expounded. This book is the product of many years of research by an anglican cleric, but still of good value for any evangelical christian.

4 out of 5 stars A good reference.......2007-05-27

I am a fan of Mr. Bercot, and especially enjoyed "Will the Real Heretics please stand Up" and "The Kingdom that turned the World Upside Down". He is one of my favorite Christian writers along with Margaret Barker and C.S. Lewis. So when I saw this book on the bookshelves of a local Barnes & Noble, I thought 'hey, what the heck...' and picked it up. I was not in one bit let down.

In this book, Mr. Bercot gives some ready reference to topics varying from baptism to the early Christian concept of Zion. All of his references come from many distinguished Christian writers and include an easy to look up format - that is - in alphabetical order. So it is relatively easy to look up anything.

However, I did have one reservation with this tome. Some of the material that I was most interested in was scant and only offered a few references. And, to add to that, some doctrinal and dogmatic concepts and issues where not even to be found, such as annointing, foot washing, and other things that I was hoping would be included. Nevertheless, this is a good reference book that supplies some useful information that can readily be looked up and checked out. So, if you are a student of first century Christianity or a fan of David Bercot - I am one of each - then I would recommend this book for you as a quick reference book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Resource.......2007-01-10

This is really a pretty thorough resource. I spent a few months with the editor, David Bercot, before this was written, and I can tell you this book is the product of his own research, it's thorough, and it is not misleading (though every book will be affected by its author's leanings). You will not regret having this book.

Most people do not know how much was written by the churches in the 2nd and 3rd century before the church and the government began a marriage under Constantine. This is an awesome introduction to those writings, and it will give you a taste of just how consistent those early writings were. They were not wracked by the sort of divisions that plague us. Early Christianity is a lot different than most of us realize.

5 out of 5 stars A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs.......2006-05-23

This dictionary is a MUST for anyone who wishes to get a fresh new view of Christian doctrine, and learn what the early Christians who were taught by the Apostles themselves believed. It is a compilation of writings on over 700 subjects, most of them preceded by appropriate Scriptures.

This dictionary is an essential part of my research into the Bible and Christian faith.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding reference to start study on early church!.......2006-05-18

What a tool for study! If you are not an Ante-Nicene scholar, this book is a great source to start studying what the early church taught.

David Bercot is a well respected historical theologian focusing on the early church. He has been cited controversially by some because of his critiques in other writings stating that after the first couple of centuries that the church became less orthodox (little "o", not Greek Orthodox or any other Orthodox church) because of incorrect teachings. This is a common belief among Protestants and Evangelicals. So, know that his focus is restricted in this sense, and some sources are not considered that Orthodox or Catholic churches may rely on.

Bercot covers a significant set of beliefs in this writing, making this a superbly helpful book. I say it is a great place to start, because of the way the book's subjects are laid out. The book discusses a few topics regarding the authors quoted, and then works through a sample study of a topic to show how to use the book. He then gives a "Who's Who of Ante-Nicene Authors" that gives a very brief biography of each author. (For those who are unfamiliar with the term Ante-Nicene, this refers to the Christian Church before the Nicene Council in AD 325.) On any given subject, Bercot begins with the associated Scriptures that discuss the issue. Then, he moves on to listing quotes from Ante-Nicene authors' writings. With each quote, he gives the reference so one can go back and read the context.

Pros: Because of this reference system, it is very easy to go and do further study from the Scriptures and the Ante-Nicene fathers. Most of the writings he refers to are found in the 10 volume set (ISBN: 1565630823). Likewise, Bercot has a very easy-to-use listing of terms that facilitates finding the correct area of the book for information. He gives superb guidance about studying the early church fathers as well, which is very good advice from this ecclesiastical history scholar.

Cons: Some of the more complicated issues don't have all Scripture listed. For instance, Free Will and Predestination, a very controversial topic, does not list all Scripture nor all early church writings. Granted, though, a full list would likely fill a book on its own. Most topics are fully detailed. Also, the biographies of the Ante-Nicene fathers could have been a bit more detailed. Most get 3-4 lines, with only Origen getting half a page.

Despite these minor drawbacks, this books is a superb place to start study on topics regarding the early church.

4 out of 5 stars The best for getting the theoretical foundation of compilers.......2007-06-13

This is the classical reference book for compiler design. This is not an easy text because of its heavy use of mathematical notation and the algorithms are presented only in pseudo code but you will not find a more complete collection of compiler related algorithms than in this book.

3 out of 5 stars Warmed over ghost of past excellence.......2007-05-19

I spent some serious quality time with the first edition (the "red dragon book"), in three main episodes over the past dozen years: 1) undergraduate compilers class, 2) industry project, and 3) parser generator implementation. During all three episodes, I was disappointed in various ways, though there is no denying that the book contains a wealth of information. As an undergraduate, I found the book somewhat impenetrable. When in industry, I found the book too abstract. When implementing a parser generator, I discovered that the book excludes important research results with regard to LR parser generation. It is the last disappointment that I will focus on.

The book presents parser generation in layers of increasing complexity, from SLR to LR to LALR, where LALR is presented as the penultimate algorithm, though LALR parsers can only handle a subset of the grammars that LR can handle. The justification for this is that the original Knuth LR algorithm is intractable for large grammars. However, an efficient, fully correct, approach for LR parser generation was published in 1977, and on top of that it appears easier to implement than efficient LALR parser generation! The red dragon book's original authors simply cannot have been unaware of this research result, but I suspect that they elected to warm over the "green dragon book" (published in 1977) rather than incorporate the state of the art as of 1986 into the "red dragon book". Now here we are another 20 years later, and as near as I can tell from reading through available online information, the "purple dragon book" is perpetuating this omission. The result of the red dragon book is that we have an entire generation of computer scientists who have been mislead to think that LALR is somehow superior to LR, and the purple dragon book is setting things up for yet another generation to be mislead.

5 out of 5 stars The new cover is awesome! Long live the Purple Dragon!.......2007-05-04

The CGI cover looks great! I only wish it stretched along the spine of the book like in the previous editions.

    5 out of 5 stars Useful book.......2007-02-20

I'm a computer engineering student and I purchased the book for my programming languages and compilers course. At present I still haven't completed the course, but I've already found this book pretty useful so far. The concepts are clearly and well explained, so that I could better understand some points that I found rather obscure during the lessons. It's being of great help, so I'm very satisfied of this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Great book but...........2007-02-15

This is the numero uno among compiler books. But whoever designed the new cover out to be have their sketch pens stuffed down their throat. Why change the cover! The previous book was called the dragon book and was a red dragon. No one ever changed Feynman's lecture books by painting the cover blue, did they? Addison Wesley should take their new edition cover design and stuff it.

If you can't find something to use on your craft project you aren't very creative. Wonderful ideas and examples of how to apply to different mediums. Would recommend to any crafter looking for non-copywrited patterns and designs of all types, age ranges and genres of dragon lore. I will be looking to purchase more of the author other works, from tattoo art to celtic patterns.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book of Dragon Patterns.......2007-09-05

I really liked the Dragon Art in this book and they show how to draw the dragons. Images can also be copied or traced for other craft projects. Would recommend for ages 10 and up.

4 out of 5 stars Gift for 13 year old.......2007-08-10

When this book arrived at my home I flipped through it, and got hooked on the details on the creatures. They say you should learn something new everyday and that day I discovered there are many different kinds of dragons and other magical creatures. My Granddaughter, who received the book as a birthday book says she can now do the drawings for the "Dragon" book she's writing.

5 out of 5 stars Dragon Pattern Book.......2007-03-23

Very nice collection of dragon patterns, nicely done. I would recommend this book to all who are interested in dragon drawings or patterns.

1 out of 5 stars Sorely Disappointed - Duplicate Book Different Title.......2007-04-02

I ordered this book and a book called Dragons and Wizards. When I started to look through Dragons:A Book of Designs, I was sorely disappointed. Everything in this book is in the Dragons and Wizards CD-ROM and Book except the Wizards one had additional media in it. I feel like I paid twice for the same book. BEWARE, THIS IS A LESSER DUPLICATE!

3 out of 5 stars dragons need enlargement.......2007-01-25

For goldwork embroidery which uses large but simple designs, these dragons would need to be greatly enlarged and simplified further. But a useful source anyway and good price.

    2 out of 5 stars not dover's best.......2006-11-27

I will not lie, this book has some interesting drawings but from the point of view of a graphic designer most drawings are lacking in graphism. They all are in black and white (with exception of those portrayed on the cover) which I have no problem with; but if you are thinking of reproducing them for logos, decoration, emblems, etc. you will find some dragons unusable since most are awfully complicatedly misdrawn: eyes are often off, lines are shabby, drawings seem childlike and not up to standards with other Dover books of design I have bought. The origin of the drawings is vague and sometimes unexistent, most only state which country they came from and dates are general to entire centuries, no record from where it was taken from or whom drew them, with exception to seven drawings in the whole book. Still if you only want them for looking at it or if you're willing to repair broken lines and seemingly unfinished drawings you should buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of Dragons.......2006-07-26

Many kinds of lovely line drawing dragons. These are b/w line drawings, no colour, despite the cover. Still, very much worth the $$.

    5 out of 5 stars Great patterns.......2006-03-03

These dont have color but I bought them for the patterns..to use parts of this one and parts of that one on tracing paper to come up with my own dragons..the pictures are very good quality..and for any dragon lover or artist. Its well worth adding to the library...B.W.

The story is well written and he was able to read it without help. The pictures are large and he has the choice weather to color or trace them. That later is his prefrence. We are both very happy with the book!!!
