Valuable Information.......2001-05-30
I've recently enlisted in the Army, and was looking for some good sorces of information, besides my recruiter! I got this book on a whem...and it turn out to be very useful. There is alot of information in this book about everything, your Class A and Class B uniforms from how to salute, and vacation time. Housing pay, and if you have family..can they go with you. It talks about overseas and hazard pay also. About being promoted and how to excell. There really is alot of information, with enuff depth to help you understand, and it tells you books to look at for more in-depth information. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to know all they can, and it would be a good book to look at before you sign your papers...or after...for some good questions to ask your recruiter or any Sergeant.

Customer Reviews:
Lame.......2006-07-30
Someone handed this off to me in the shop and it is certifiably pretty lame. Cartoony, hardly tattoo-looking (shading anyone?) and just plain goofy. Never even looked at the CD, as the book was proof enough that it was dumb.
I SUPPOSE one could redraw the ideas into something viable and cool, or you could just find the original Jerry pieces from which these were homogenized from.
WEAK. Save your money.
Pretty good, for clip art.......2006-07-11
This book has a good selection of classic tattoo designs, and I would consider it a good value for the price. The artwork is good, not amazing, but certainly adequate. Each design is offered in color and in linework. If you're looking for a good, all-purpose book of flash, and not necessarily a lot of authentic Sailor Jerry stuff, this book (and CD ROM!) is a good choice.
Save your money.......2006-02-11
I bought this book expecting to find "old school" tattoo flash and could have not have been more disapointed. It took me all of five minuets to repackage this book for a return.
The examples are cartoony at best, more like temporary tattoos for a child than a good reference for an adult.
Stick with Sailor Jerry
My husband enjoyed the book and CD........2005-09-23
I bought this for my husband, for his new hobby. We appreciate the CD to make the pictures "flash friendly". And the book has many different old and new patterns.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic illustrations.......2005-08-30
For anyone interested in what America looked like around the middle of the 19th century, this is a great book. The engravings were originally published with a narrative written by Nathaniel Parker Lewis, and copies of the original publications are rare and expensive. The engravings are wonderfully detailed, and if the images are what interest you this is the edition to buy.
Book Description
This classic sourcebook of decorative motifs contains 100 plates of royalty-free Gothic designs, meticulously reproduced from rare 19th-century engravings. Many are floral and foliate designs rendered from panels, capitals, borders, brackets, friezes, grotesques, and other decorative elements from such architectural landmarks as New College Chapel at Oxford and Rouen Cathedral.
Customer Reviews:
A 6-star book!.......2006-04-05
On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, this books deserves 6 stars. I have looked at many of the Dover Pictorial Archive books and this one is truly exceptional. From the cover, I was expecting more gargoyles. But it contained excellent drawings of medieval architectural ornamentations. For example, one page will show a drawing of the relevant part of a building, eg. a gable on a building at Oxford Univ., and then the facing page will show drawings of close ups of the most interesting ornamental elements on the building and sometimes the sideviews of those elements. Lots of leaf and floral elements as was common then. It even cites the buildings. This is a true must-have book for especially wood artisans who want to do some fancy work.

Copyright-free inspiration for contemporary artists and designers; invaluable reference for lace collectors.
Customer Reviews:
Truly inspirational!.......2000-09-20
Although this book is devoid of any prickings, patterns, or line drawings it is worth owning just for the sheer number (243 to be exact) of beautiful, close-up photos of antique laces. The photographs are quite clear enough, I believe, that the advanced lacemaker should be able to replicate many of the laces. And the novice lacer, like me, will enjoy thumbing its pages and dreaming of future projects.

A Must Have for Type Designers.......2006-12-01
If you work with type, you'll want this book. Dan Solo had a huge collection of great old and new type faces. You'll find 24 of them here. Some, you might already have, and some are so nice that I believe if you find one gem here, it makes the price worthwhile. The fonts are in both Windows True Type and Macintosh formats. The pages have the complete alphabets and a character chart. Be sure to notice the "extra characters" that are offered in some fonts.

Customer Reviews:
a plea from the editor.......2001-02-23
I, Herb Galewitz, edited this book for Dover Publications. Why do you have it listed as edited by Anna Samuel. Who she? My name is on the book cover.
Book Description
119 lovely examples of illuminated borders and letters display exotic plants, animals, and mythical creatures in brilliant colors. Selected from rare 19th-century publications, these dazzling treasures of chromolithographic art will add a nostalgic touch to graphic assignments as well as a host of art and craft projects.
Customer Reviews:
Great designs print sharply.......2007-01-27
This has become one of my favorite Dover books. The designs are lovely, and print very clearly. I use these for making greeting cards, but also for making mailing labels. There are really a lot of very fine frames.
