Book Description
As followers of Lee Glickstein's popular seminars attest, effective public speaking isn't the result of being over-prepared or having a slick delivery. It's actually a creative, interactive process relying on the speaker's natural presence and willingness to be "in the moment." Now Glickstein shares his dramatically successful "transformational speaking" approach, showing that the key to successful public speaking lies in spiritual principles that emphasize self-realization and authenticity. Be Heard Now! teaches you how to:Customer Reviews:
The best book on public speaking.......2004-03-20
Re: "The seminars are helpful; the book is...".......2002-11-21
When I read "touchy-feely" I'm guessing the other reviewer would prefer a book that deals less with emotion. Since public speaking often stimulates fear in the speaker, I found this book's exploration of related emotions to be extremely helpful. Business presentations where people don't fall asleep are often the result of a good mix of personal connection and information. If this wasn't so, business people would simply review written reports.
Read this book and practice the process. All you need are one or two other people to listen. You'll build self-confidence for ANY presentation. I've used the book and the process, and have since spoken to scores of groups including tough minded business groups, and large and small public audiences. It helped me connect with authenticity and ease.

The seminars may be helpful; the book is not.......2000-12-20
I strongly question this premise, but am willing to concede that it may work for people who attend the groups. However, it does not work if you just read the book, which consists of a lot of touchy-feely material that may be appropriate for people preparing inspirational speeches, but is worthless for those making business presentations or operating outside the realm of group therapy.
If you want to buy this in conjunction with a seminar you're attending, fine. If you're just looking for information in book form, save your money.

Becoming a Great Speaker.......2004-03-20
Once you get beyond the nuts and bolts of public speaking, you are ready for learning the art of this craft. Lee Glickstein takes you to there. Although there are a few nuts and bolts (he gives what I think is the best formula for structuring a speech, especially how to make your opening remarks), most of the book goes to the subtleties of great speaking-building rapport with your audience. He also makes the profound observation that rapport comes more in the silence between spoken words than the words themselves. You can read the connection in the eyes of your audience. Lee Glickstein shows you how. Finally, he talks about the concept of "Speaking Circles" - similar to Toastmasters in some ways but with an even more of a supportive slant.
This book and tape can take you from being a good speaker to a great one.

Contemporary Japanese Jewelry
Simon Fraser , and Toyojiro Hida Manufacturer: Merrell ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 1858941636 |
Book Description
Jewelry art in Japan is, surprisingly, mainly a twentieth-century development. Classical Japanese jewelry was never made simply for ornament, but had a practical purpose, with beautifully crafted belt toggles, fans, and haircombs being worn for social and religious occasions. In the last few years, however, a whole new studio jewelry scene has emerged in Japan, producing objects of astounding quality.Featuring 200 beautifully illustrated examples of the very finest work by 50 contemporary artists, and in particular the revolutionary materials being used, including lipstick, ash, and naturally decaying naphthalene, Contemporary Japanese Jewellery is the first book to be published outside Japan that charts the trends and developments in this growing area of interest.
With a historical overview of the Japanese jewelry-making tradition and its social context, as well as twentieth-century developments as Japan became increasingly influenced by the West, Contemporary Japanese Jewellery will be indispensable to anyone interested in modern developments in jewelry-making, and of great appeal to the broader craft and design communities.

Teruo Akatsu makes beads from dust, threading them onto stainless steel wire. I surely have a surplus of this raw material at my home. (You might recall that our San Antonio artist Sherry Fotopoulos has used dryer lint to create sculptures.)
Tomomi Arata uses sand, enamel, silver, and gemstones to create rings that looks like they've been lost in an ancient shipwreck.
Hiromasa Hashimoto strings liquid silver bugle beads on silicone cord to make a geometric necklace. Yuta Hataya fashions bracelets checkered by brass and silver.
Mikiko Minewaki is the ultimate recycler, making rings from the ends of cigarette lighters and colored plastics.
The above examples show just a few unusual materials used by these inventive artists, but you must see the book to know how the materials are rendered into spectacular jewelry ornaments.

Gerd Rothman: Jewellery
Dorothea Baumer , Barbara Cartlidge , Florian Hufnagl , Rudiger Joppien , Sabine Runde , and Gerd Rothman Manufacturer: Hatje Cantz Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3775711554 Release Date: 2002-08-02 |
Book Description
Since the early 1970s, gold- and silversmith Gerd Rothman has been reinterpreting traditional jewelry through a playful, intellectual approach. Working with body impressions taken from clients and from persons dear to them, he has crafted one-of-a-kind creations to be worn somewhere in the land between decorative ornament and conceptual art. His 'Family Necklace' contains the individual fingerprints of the members of one family; from another dangles pendants made of chewed gum cast in gold. This monograph of work from 1976 to the present gathers together a chorus of voices: wearers and aficionados of these remarkable objects who offer their reflections, anecdotes, intimate commentaries, and fantasies. Combined with texts by expert authors, they present an enlivened discourse on the jewelry art of Gerd Rothman.Customer Reviews:
