Art of Public Speaking.......2007-05-26
The book I received was an older edition(7th instead of 9th) and did not have all the CD's with it. I returned it in disgust and found the 2007 edition with all materials intact for a LOWER price at my college bookstore. To top it all off, Amazon tried to charge me for shipping the book BOTH ways. They featured the wrong book on their site. My advice: if you want the right book, don't trust Amazon's description. Search by the ISBN
Product not as described.......2007-05-14
The book that popped up when I searched this title turned out to be an older edition which di not have all the materials with it. Since I was intending to use it as a text for a course, it did not meet my needs and I had to return it.

Book Description
An essential guide for recognizing, preventing, and healing childhood trauma, from infancy through adolescence—what parents, educators, and health professionals can do.
Trauma can result not only from catastrophic events such as abuse, violence, or loss of loved ones, but from natural disasters and everyday incidents such as auto accidents, medical procedures, divorce, or even falling off a bicycle. At the core of this book is the understanding of how trauma is imprinted on the body, brain, and spirit, resulting in anxiety, nightmares, depression, physical illnesses, addictions, hyperactivity, and aggression. Rich with case studies and hands-on activities, Trauma Through A Child’s Eyes gives insight into children’s innate ability to rebound with the appropriate support, and provides their caregivers with tools to overcome and prevent trauma.
Customer Reviews:
Best book in my library!.......2007-10-02
This is the best book in my library! I keep it next to me and reference it frequently. I have given 5 of them to family and friends with children. It is a bible for dealing with children who have been affected by trauma. Truly comprehensive, it provides a sensible protocol for understanding and healing trauma. Pre and peri natal issues are addressed as well. A must have for parents. Peter Levine and Maggie Kline have created a book for the ages.
Excellent book for anyone who works with children and their parents.......2007-07-03
This book offers clear explanations to the nature of trauma and how it affects the body--and subsequently, the emotions and perceptions and behavior--and how to prevent an overwhelming event from BECOMING traumatic for the long term. It is filled with doable and clear exercises, and helps demystify the concept of what trauma is, why things are traumatic, how to prevent trauma, the incidious way that traumatic events can impact later sensations and perceptions, and how to help heal those. A book by a leading figure in the field of trauma and the body, Peter Levine is a master.
Wonderfully clarifying for anyone who works with children--be it traumatized children or children who are exposed to 'normal' occasional overwhelming events such as falling of a bike--and to anyone who works with parents of children.
Highly recommended.
An incredible resource for parents, therapists, and former children..........2007-06-10
This book is a remarkable resource of information for anyone who has any experience or contact with children. It is not a heady read. Completely and utterly accessible to those who have no formal training in psychology (yet still riveting for those who do), it has many step-by-step guides (creative, physical, and emotional) for dealing with and assisting children through a myriad of life's trials and traumas, including random falls and accidents, loss of a pet, abuse, death, & bullying to name a few. This book also offers numerous skill-building guides to help a child develop their senses, mindfulness, awareness and boundaries, and several basic cases are presented of children they have come in contact with over the years with various presenting problems. Terribly informative, moving, healing, thought provoking and profoundly educational, this book will be one you'll recommend again and again. Not said tongue in cheek, if you were ever a child, you need to read this book.
A Terrific Book-Trauma Through a Child's Eyes.......2007-01-17
Trauma Through a Child's Eyes does what it says it will do. It awakens "the ordinary miracle of healing." As a therapist, I have read countless theory and/or practice books. I have found myself either drowning in theory or bored by an author's list of do's and don't's. This book is refreshingly different. It is wisdom writ large.
As I read, I am drawn into a place of understanding:
-the body's natural tendency to protect itself
-a child's extraordinary ability to react to, renegotiate, and heal from traumatic events
-the responsibility we all have to respond intelligently and effectively to the trauma so prevalent in our world.
As I read, I am drawn into a place of hope:
-that we all have access to resilience
-that our children can thrive
-that there is a way to help that does "no harm.'
I highly recommend this book for professionals, parents, anyone interested in the "miracle of healing." It is intelligently and compassionately written by two extraordinary professionals who are clearly more interested in healing trauma than in their own renown. I have recommended Trauma Through a Child's Eyes to clients, colleagues, friends and family and I recommend it unequivocally to you!
MUCH NEEDED & FINALLY HERE!.......2007-01-10
Maggie Kline & Peter Levine have done an outstanding job addressing the unique ways trauma and its concomitant healing effects the lives of young people. With the subject of trauma's recent surge in popularity, a book devoted exclusively to trauma "through a child's eyes" is an exciting and much needed addition. This extensive & comprehensive look at trauma, its prevention and its healing, will be welcome by parents, teachers, physicians, and all of us interested in helping heal our beautiful & fragile planet.
Book Description
Catastrophes can occur with unexpected swiftness and in an instant change our lives forever. Illnesses and other misfortunes may develop slowly over time and they too may change our lives forever. But the story does not have to end there. With the help of some very special people - occupational therapists - there is hope, and miracles do happen.
If you do not know what occupational therapy is or what an occupational therapist does, don't worry! Read on and find out how people have learned to cope with their troubles and have become stronger by the very act of overcoming obstacles and surviving catastrophes. These are their stories - written by the people who lived them, their families, or those who helped them save the day.
Ordinary Miracles: True Stories About Overcoming Obstacles & Surviving Catastrophes is an inspirational book containing over 95 true stories about everyday miracles that ordinary people worked hard to create for themselves -people like you or me, a spouse, child, parent, or friend. Some of the people were born with disabling conditions, others suffered illness, some were injured, and some experienced the ordinary conditions of old age. All of them required help to learn or relearn the skills they needed for the job of living, and with the aid of an occupational therapist, they all found the strength and courage to do so.
Each of these stories illustrates the way someone was helped to overcome and defy the odds and shows how people have redesigned their lives to be meaningful and fulfilling following what could have been a life-shattering event. Their stories are tributes to the ability of people to triumph over adversity and to succeed when life is at its hardest. You will be amazed at their courage, energized by their achievements, and awed at the miracles they managed to accomplish. Some of these stories will bring a tear, some a smile, but all will inspire you with the knowledge and confidence that
Ordinary Miracles do happen.

Customer Reviews:
Very disappointed.......2007-04-07
This is the worse clip art that I have ever seen. It looks like a three year old drew the pictures. I was hoping to use them in my Church's bulletin, since I am home with a broken ankle. But I can draw better than these pictures. I am so disappointed. I even paid over night shipping so that I could use them in this week's bulletin. What a waste of money...
Fair but Nor Great.......2006-12-13
This is not a bad clipart collection but neither is it a particularly good one, at least for my purposes.
It is from Paulist Press so it has a definite Roman Catholic flavor to much of it but many of these images are general enough to be used by any Christians. My problem is that they are all black and white. I was looking for some color images. That being said, there is no reason why many of these cannot be found to be useful in documents where color would not be expected such as a bulletin of newsletter.
The images are evocative of the themes they are supposed to indicate so they do facilitate communication. None are stellar but they are usable.
I actually think that this is the most useful of the three volumes. The themes are miracles, saints, sacraments and ordinary time. It is sometimes difficult to come up with a simple image that is evocative of the right thing within these categories.

An uplifting book about the positive things in life........1998-10-03
This is one of the few books I've encountered that I wanted to read or listen to as soon as I had finished. The stories show the miracles that are common and uncommon in lives of all types of people. It felt like a collection of stories from family members about their lives and part of my heritage. Our humanity connects us with more than flesh and blood. We are spiritually connected in a way that this book reveals through the sharing of a special part of peoples' lives. I'm looking forward to making my own list of miracles and seeing how long it will be.
A must read for all who wish to be inspired about the positiveness of life. We need to hear more about the good in the world and this book does that very well.

Everyday people can experience an extraordinary God.......2000-05-10
I loved this book because it clearly demonstrates that God loves us, hears us and will intercede in our lives in ways we can only image, if we simply ASK Him. Often people think that we have to find the magic words or be "worthy" of His attention. The surprise is EVERYONE is so special to God that He hears us even before we ask.
Miracles - God's Reaffirming Communication.......2000-05-08
In Rebekah Montgomery's book " Ordinary Miracles" its plain to see that God is real and personal. The book through it's presentation of real life situations and miraculous events shows the power of God, but also his great desire to help and communicate with us. I had never really thought of miracles as God's, "Hey I heard you and and I'm going to do something kind of extra-ordinary, normal to me, to get your attention and let you know we're on the same team". It's not just God taking action, He's communicating big time.
Customer Reviews:
Good for the Novice.......1999-11-08
I found this book to be a great book that teaches card tricks ranging in skill from easy to difficult. It includes tricks based on the Si Stebbins Master System, Math-based tricks, and preforming tips and tricks. Overall, I give it 4 stars.
A Little for Alot.......1999-08-12
This book is quite miss leading. 113 easy-to perform miracles boils down too about 5 basic magic tricks with dozens and dozens of variations. Although these tricks are essential for future card tricks I think its not worth it.
Product Description
Ordinary Miracles in Nursing compiles touching stories from nurses about their everyday miraculous experiences. The stories relate ordinary miracles that occur when patients and nurses come together, revealing the depth of the human spirit and inspiring hope. Illustrating the routine acts nurses perform to improve the lives, the stories span a myriad of different patients—from infants and children, to the psychiatric, geriatric, incarcerated, and homeless. The stories in this book, some humorous, some sad, are all actual examples of the dynamics that take place between patients and nurses.
Customer Reviews:
An Almost- Ordinary Book.......2006-05-13
A few of the stories stand out; most do not. Even as a nurse, I found many of the stories to be important perhaps to the teller but not necessarily to a reader in any walk of life. I guess I was expecting something on the level of the Chicken Soup for Nurses and this, to me, fell short.
Good anthology.......2005-10-30
What the authors of this book have done is compile 100 stories from nurses across the country. The stories are true and inspirational. A perfect gift for the nurses in your life!

Ordinary Miracles is a Wonderful Book!.......2004-04-20
WI loved Ordinary Miracles from the very first page. It was wonderful, and full of meaning. It was touching, heart-warming, funny, and sad all at teh same time. Stephanie S. Tolan did an extraordinary job on this book. With detail, wonderful characters like Mark and Colin, a great storyline, memorable and honorable details and words, this book is very well written and just a great book to read or read to others.
Miss Cowess a.k.a Happy Reader.......2004-03-24
I felt this book brought out a whole new story that hasn't been shared before.Unlike the common Cinderella stories you hear about, this story is about a boy, Mark who sruggled in fighting to save his friends life. This story was super emotional, because the friendship between Mark and Colin was built around a science project, but when one of the friends becomes seriously ill, they both have to realize the are going to lose eachother.
It was touching and taught the importance of being friends. This story taught, to me, that it is improtant to know that two people may look alike, but at heart they are two seperate people. I feel this is improtant to know, because each of the twins felt as though the needed to be treated seperately.
I hope you enjoy this book as muchas I did!
Terrific!.......2002-03-19
This is a wonderful book. It's beautifully written, full of details that put the reader right there, seeing and feeling along with Mark. That's what I appreciated most, being so thoroughly in Mark's head and heart. The difficult ending was perfect, and I felt it down to my toes. My hat is off to Ms. Tolan!
