Book Description
Many feel that interpreting reversals, the upside-down cards in a tarot spread, offers additional depth and insight to readings. But reversals are not easy for those who haven't mastered this age-old divination practice.
Revelations Tarot makes it easy for beginners to use simple reversals too. Each card of this exquisite deck has reversible images that allow for interpretation no matter which way the card is laid. Striking imagery-bearing a sophisticated stained glass style with illuminated colors-enliven all the major and minor arcana of this innovative, Rider-Waite-based deck. Divinatory meanings of the cards and their reversals, along with several spreads, are provided in the accompanying Revelations Tarot Companion.
Customer Reviews:
okay deck.......2007-09-28
While waiting for a movie to start I went to a bookstore and bought this deck. First off I admired the artwork. I would have liked to see a little more elemental coloring in some of the minor arcana, but over all the artwork is gorgeous. The cards have a white border and the artwork would have, in my opinion, really popped out at you if it had a black border.
Okay, having said all that, I like the deck and will probably use it in my own readings from time to time. If one is looking for simple readings then this deck will do fine. However, I noted that there did seem to be some lack of depth as far as magical theory or hermetic knowledge is involved. This is not a deck if you are wanting a depth of symbols that tie in to each other at different levels. If you want to equate a card with a meaning, then this will work.
Some of the upright meanings in the book are a little lacking. I would turn from one card's age to another card's and compare sentences and phrases to find what the author meant to be the essential core differences. You can't say two people are authority figures, give out rules, and head an organization, when one is an elected official and the other is the head of a military coup. This entirely misses the differences. The upright meanings, I felt, had to much emphasis on the easily seen characteristics and not the core differences. The World is not a suped-up version of The Wheel of Fortune.
The reversal meanings are, as noted elsewhere, the strongpoint of this deck. A lot of decks seems to be following the trend of not observing reversals. I've always done reversals and it is in the back of my mind when using a deck that doesn't. Each deck has it's own feel and characteristics that I must get to know. The reversals in this deck were much more well written than the rest of the book. Perhaps one can learn these card better by skipping the upright meanings and reading first the reversal meaning of a card and then considering what the upright meaning would be on your own.
Overall, I give it a 3. It is better than some I've used, and not nearly as complex as others. Right in the middle. If you are a collector, then you'll want to get this deck. If you want one for readings but tend to draw on lots of imagery and symbolism... then this deck might be a little lacking. If you just want a straightforward deck, then this one should work just fine.
A swirling scrumptious delight for your eyes and heart............2007-08-13
This is a succulent, sumptious and eloquent deck, or should I say work of art. From the minute I removed the cards and slowly looked through the deck drinking deep from the gorious images, I have been awed. The swirling colours, energy, play of light, images chosen are top notch. Every little thing in this wonder has meaning. You can feel the loving craftmanship that went into the execution and drawing of this deck, it's amazing!
I don't really read with reversals per se, I prefer to think of each card always containing it's entire spectrum of meaning depending on surrounding cards. But the seamless joining of upright and revered images is stunning.
The colours! A complete and total feast for the eyes. Rarely have I seen such striking and gorgeous use of colours symbology and mixtures.
I love the smaller size of the cards. I really do not like large cards, and these to me are just the perfect size. Cardstock is good, very slippery and the backs a pleasing purple swirl.
As others have said, even if you can't read with this deck, get it! It's an artistic masterpiece. I myself am reading wonderfully with it, very very evocative and intuitive. The companion book is basic but very informative of the images, smbology and colours use.
Very nice.......2007-05-21
The whimsical artwork is good, but where this deck really shines is in its concept: there is no way to see a card as being upside down, as artwork goes both ways. People who aren't very familiar with tarot often get anxious about card reversals, as if the card's direction implies bad outcomes if upside down. This deck elininates that hurdle entirely, and encourages readers to show that reversals are merely the other side of the coin. Very nice.
A New Chapter in the History of Tarot Divination.......2007-05-19
The Visconti-Sforza Tarocchi (circa 1450), The Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot (circa 1909), and the Revelations Tarot (circa 2005), represent the avant-garde of their respective eras. Yes, that is pretty remarkable company to put a relatively unknown Tarot deck in, but if there is a better conceived, or more beautifully delineated Tarot deck than the Revelations Tarot out there we have never seen it. Created by Zach Wong, this is a passion illustrated, a body of effort that one would expect to have taken the Tarot culture by storm, but somehow has become lost amidst the inundation of nugatory Tarot decks of recent years.
This is a humbling deck from every aspect for any Tarot reader. Mr. Wong has redefined the most significant symbology in an uncannily accurate and relative way. Each card is dramatically illustrated in colors and hues from one of the most daring and exciting palettes ever chosen for a Tarot deck. And most remarkably, he has given Tarot readers a 78-card Tarot deck with 156 clearly defined representations to interpret from. For the first time that we are aware of, each card of both the Major and Minor Arcana are fully illustrated for both upright divinatory meaning, and the reversed meaning. As is often the case with most significant discoveries, we happened upon this deck quite by accident while looking for something else, and were immediately drawn to it. There are some slight variances from the traditional interpretations in some of the cards, but the Tarot is by its very nature a dynamic instrument of divination.
Reminiscent of stained glass by design, the Major Arcana is captured as the repetitive journeys contained within the larger journey of existence itself. All 22-card portrayals are a clear representation of its corresponding archetype, cleverly depicted as Gods amongst us, hidden only by their masks. Although potentially confusing to the novice reader, the imagery is quite to the point, for example; The Lovers card upright depicts romance, honorable relationships, and a virtuous approach to choices, with a benevolent angel overseeing a couple in love. When reversed you find lust, temptation, infidelity, relationships for gain, and on the card reversed is a temptress orchestrating a couple in the thralls of passion, clearly prurient but not salacious.
The Judgment card, succinctly put, describes "time of reckoning" in the upright position, and "time of reckoning" in the reverse position, with the principle difference reflective of how one feels about being judged. In the upright position the man welcomes the opportunity to be judged, as the angel of judgment trumpets the moment of truth, and the peripheral angels raise their hands in happiness. Viewing from the reverse the man is wrought with fear of the moment while the trumpeting angel's head is cocked in pity, and the peripheral angels throw down their arms in empathetic anguish.
The Suits are every bit as inspiring as the Majors, all the way through to the Court Cards, which are, dare we say, more movingly illustrated than just thrones and horses. The King of Swords represents an ultimate power, often in the form of intellect, and the quite necessary control of it. This King of the Revelations deck is quite adept at using his great power both assertively and passively. Depicted in the upright position you find the winged being, with confidence upon his face, and the sword held abreast by one steady hand. On the reverse you find the winged being holding the sword with two hands across his face. Unlike his upright counterpart who controls his power, this King uses his power for control, and with his face hidden strategically behind the sword you can be sure that his motives cannot be trusted.
Among the Pips of the Revelations deck, the Two of Cups, which represents partnership, balance and harmony, is depicted here with an intertwined couple, merpeople actually, holding a cup full of their love for the union. They each use both hands to show their strong desire for the relationship, while the great force of their desire to be together watches over them. On the reverse the couple have turned inward, holding their pride and needfulness of winning in higher regard than the partnership. In two equal acts of stubbornness they have turned their backs on each other while the empty cup falls away, and the great force raises its hands to the heavens in hopelessness. Another example is the most exquisite Five of Pentacles, which represents a most desolate time, the after effects of losing a job, or the separation from a spouse. Drawn as a person in desperation crawling across the peak of the pentacles stacked in the pattern of a star. On the reverse the person has turned to see something to give hope. Raising one hand in a gesture of at last, while a smile breaks across their face, clearly depicting the end of hard and difficult times.
Included with the deck is a companion book, written and illustrated by Zack Wong, which defines the upright and reversed meanings of the cards, and his thoughts behind the images and symbols he chose. The book offers a well-described association with each card that makes understanding his methodology very easy. Mr. Wong describes in the preface of his companion book how he created the Revelations Tarot deck after a fruitless attempt to connect with the current market of decks. Although Mr. Wong has a degree in architecture and works as a graphic designer, this deck has a genuine feel about it, unlike so many decks today that in reality are just 78 little pictures in a box.
Not everyone will like this deck, but it isn't a niche, genre, or theme deck, it is quite simply a Tarot deck. If you have, or intend to have, an interest in the Tarot, you must consider this deck. We feel as if this deck represents a new chapter in the history of Tarot divination, and speaking in the repetitive, should be considered on the level of Visconti and Rider/Waite/Smith. Yes, we think that it is that good!

Book Description
Tarot Revelations
is an analysis of the mysterious philosophy in the ancient cards that became modern playing cards. Citing Dante, C.G.Jung, and early Gnostics and alchemists, Campbell and Roberts reveal a path that has spiritual meaning for everyone. Writing in collaboration with Richard Roberts, Joseph Campbell stated, "We have come to revelations of a grandiose poetic vision of Universal Man that has been for centuries the inspiration of saints and sinners, sages and fools, in kaleidoscopic transformations." According to Richard Roberts, "In the 22 cards comprising the Major Arcana, we have a genuine document of the soul's initiation into higher consciousness. As such the Major Arcana may be interpreted as a Western Book of the Dead."

unique perspective.......2003-12-10
a uniquely elegant and informative look inside the world of Tarot by a powerful collaboration indeed.
Tarot from a Jungian and mythological perspective is what you will get with this highly interesting work.
Too few pages by Campbell--THIS IS NOT A CAMPBELL BOOK!.......2003-08-16
Joseph Campbell's entire contribution to this piece consists of a few pages at the beginning--basically, Campbell seems to have written an intro to Roberts' book, and Roberts decided to gravytrain on the Power of Myth phenomenon by adding Campbell's name to the author list.
The book that Roberts wrote is a moderately interesting examination of the Waite-Rider arcana through a Jungian lens, but I was so ticked off that I'd been sold a book that perported to be by Campbell and yet had finished the portion written by Campbell in about fifteen minutes that I didn't get much out of it. My problem, I know, but the bait-and-switch thing REALLY bothered me!
And you shall know the truth, and it will set you free ..........2002-03-25
For years, I ignored the Tarot because I thought it was a frivolous card game and that material written about it was cultish at worst and childish at best. It did not help that Tarot cards on the market were manufactured by American Games. I became interested in the Tarot cards because Bill Moyers interviewed Joseph Campbell, and as Moyers had never struck me as a kook, I thought perhaps Campbell was worth getting to know. Getting to know Campbell led me to TAROT REVELATIONS.
Much of my formal education concerns the social sciences including ethnography and the study of religion, myths, belief systems, etc. As a professional social scientist in a job that deals with ethnic issues, I have struggled to operationally define and measure ethnicity, and view cultural elements including myths as the basis of belief systems around which various ethnic groups organize their societies. I have arrived at the conclusion that most of the smaller systems are doomed, but fortunately, anthropologists and others have recorded enough material that we may still study the myths of our ancestors. Joseph Campbell points the way.
Mark Twain is purported to have said, don't let school get in the way of your education. Like Twain, Campbell--a highly educated man and a college professor--was able to break out of the mold of formal education and develop a fresh viewpoint concerning the world and what makes it tick. In other words, he was able to get past the mental censorship of academe.
In TAROT REVELATIONS, Campbell takes a leaf from Sir James Frazier's book 'The Golden Bough' and suggests a core set of concepts underlie all belief systems. He suggests Jungian psychologists have their own terms for these mythical elements which Jung recognized ages ago. As an empirical test of his idea that mythical elements have universal meanings, he compares the Tarot cards of the Major Arcana with the works of Dante and notes their similarities. He also demonstates how the cards can be used to illustrate the "ideal life, lived virtuously according to the knightly codes of the Middle Ages."
In the remainder of the book, Richard Roberts, a student of Campbell, shows how the cards reflect the various mythological belief systems of historical peoples in the ancient world--Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Keltoi, Iberians, etc. Roberts uses a deck designed about 100 years ago by A.E.Waite, a member of a group interested in arcane matters that included many illustrious members including W.B.Yeats. Waite did not invent the cards, he merely redesigned them using historical sources such as Tarot decks from the Middle Ages. Waite hired Pamela Coleman, an artist and fellow New Dawn member to illustrate the cards. Coleman, a Jamaican by birth with occult interests of her own was later "discovered" by Afred Stigliz who arranged for a showing of her works in New York City.
Roberts compares the elements in the Tarot deck with various myth based and arcane systems including alchemy, astrology, and Hermetic teaching. The Tarot deck is absolutely loaded with connections to all these systems. One could argue that some very educated folks constructed this deck, but the elements of the Tarot cards are recorded back to the mid-1300s thanks to Church Inquisitors who took an interest in the Cathars. Folks in the 1300s did not have had the expertise required to "construct" the cards from scratch because the cards reflect the heavens (arrangement of constellations, solstices, equinoxes, etc.) in about 2000 B.C.E. No one in the 1300s understood astronomy well enough to deduce how the heavens might have looked 3500 years earlier and if s/he did they sure kept it hidden--as in occult knowledge. Since Europeans in the 1300s were struggling with establishing the dates for the moveable feasts (they could not figure out when Easter would come 10 years hence) it strikes me that if anyone could have provided an answer they would have provided an answer--depending on how they felt about the church.
Information about the heavens between 4,000 and 2,000 B.C.E. can be found in the ruins of the ancient world--Stonehenge, the Azetec temples, the Pyramids so there is a great deal of evidence that the ancients understood their moment in time. Events moved too slowly for them to understand that 4,000 years after they lived the spring equinox would not fall in the sign of Taurus. However, Roberts suggests the ancient Persians figured out many things about the heavens and incorporated this knowledge into their belief systems. After all, those Magi who found Christ were onto something. Much of the knowledge of ancient Persia was locked away in Constantinople to be discovered years later by prying minds.
So, the Tarot cards are very old because the knowledge in them is very old. The Tarot cards represent the distilled knowledge of ancient peoples including the Persians who had a Mithraic code that still manifests itself in Zoroastrianism today (number one religion on Islam's hit list in Iran). Archeologists have long argued diffusion versus spontaneous theories regarding the spread of cultural elements including creation tales. Roberts does not take sides, but suggests the information in the cards could support either view point. Whether the information captured in the Tarot cards was discovered by many people in different places at different times or in one place and later spread across the world does not matter. The truth is, humans have been stuggling with the meaning of life for a long time, and while no one has the final answer the Tarot cards are a leading competitor.
An Excellent Treatise on the Tarot.......2001-03-18
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in the interperetations of the Tarot cards and how they relate to the initiatory Magickal systems of organizations like the Golden Dawn and even Freemasonry. Joseph Campbell (who needs no introduction!) writes on the French Mersailes deck, and Richard Roberts does a wonderful job with the Waite-Rider deck, including an explanation of his "Magic Nine" arrangement that is probably the most revealing layout of the cards. The authors focus less on the divinitory aspects of Tarot and more on the individuals journey through the mysteries of the Cosmos as outlined by the symbolism of the Tarot. Get this book! You will be glad you did.

Book Description
The verses of Poetic Revelations, each titled after one of the twenty two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, combine esoteric Tarot principles related to the twenty two major arcana or trump cards of the Tarot and Qabalistic ageless wisdom. A blend of ancient Western mysticism and Eastern religious thought with contemporary psychology, including embedded techniques for personal spiritual growth and development, fashions this information into the condensed form of free verse. The black and white images of the twenty two major arcana cards provided beseech the reader to participate in the journey by coloring his or her own Tarot trump.
The notes of Poetic Revelations provide the reader with a variety of related information including Qabalistic, astrological, mythological, and sensory attributions related to the letter of each verse. The sensory attributions include color for sight; musical note for sound; perfume for smell; gem or stone for touch; and vegetation for taste. The mythological attributions include ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Hindu, and others.
The Other Verses is a selection of poetry from the author's collected verses which provide the reader with a sampling of related topics concerning spiritual growth and personal development, and which reflects to a significant degree the author's recommended reading list.

From the author: "We have studied the verses of the book of Revelation (Apocalypse) in the Superior Worlds. We give the result of our investigations in this book. Much has been said and written about the Apocalypse. However, only intellectual speculations have been made and the words of various authorities have been repeated. The present work is the result of tremendous esoteric investigations that were patiently performed by us in the Superior Worlds. We have found the Apocalypse to be divided into three parts: the first we have entitled The Son of Man, the second The Sealed Book and the third The New Jerusalem. The first part teaches the Path of the Razors Edge. The second is related with the times of the end. The third tells us of the future earth. This is a book of practical christification. This is a book of transcendental esoterism and it is absolutely practical. We do not theorize in this book. This work is one hundred percent practical. Many students long for their christification, but they do not know where to begin. They do not know the code, the secret. In this book we give away to every student the code, the secret, the key. Here you have the key, you who thirst, lovers of the Truth. Now let us practice."

The Book of Revelation unveiled!.......2005-01-01
The Aquarian Message is one of the most difficult to read as it deals with the heavy-hearted explanations of the secrets of the Book of Revelation. Samael Aun Weor boldly speaks the truth about the times of the end (which he tells us are at hand!)
Surely, many will be surprised by this book, as no one has ever unveiled the Book of Revelation in such a manner before!
Given throughout the text are various teachings by Samael for those interested in transforming themselves spiritually and psychologically, as well as the knowledge that can prepare oneself for the coming. There is also much said about planet Hercolubus.
The book is symbolically divided into Three parts and has 33 chapters:
1 - The Son of Man
2 - The Sealed Book
3 - The New Jerusalem
{1}The Son of Man, The First Begotten of the Dead, The Seven Churches, The Serpent of Metal, Internal Meditation, The Churches of...Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Loadicea, The Jinn States.
{2}The Throne in Heaven, The Sealed Book, The Seven Seals, The Four Angels, The Seventh Seal, The Fifth Angel, The Sixth Trumpet, The Seventh Trumpet, The Two Witnesses, The Woman and the Dragon, The Two Beasts, The Lamb in Sion, The Seven Angels with the Seven Vials, The Seven Vials are Poured, The Whore and the Beast, Babylon is Fallen, The Maitreya Buddha, The Millennium and the Judgement.
{3}The New Jerusalem, The Pure River of the Waters of Life.
-This first time English printing is full of the amazing prophetic pictures by Albrecht Durer and Gustav Dore.
...A must for any Gnostic student or anyone interested at all about the mysteries contained in the Book of Revelation.
Intense.......2004-09-22
This book is an intense and very deep examination of the Kabbalah in the Book of Revelation. Prepare to be unable to breathe due to the power of this book.

In his thirty years with the National Park Service, Jim Burnett has seen it all: boat ramp mishaps that have sent cars into the water; skunks in the outhouse and bears at the dumpster; visitors looking for the bridge over the Grand Canyon.
Customer Reviews:
Fun and Enjoyable Read.......2007-10-13
I just finished reading Hey Ranger and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an easy read and it held my attention - I didn't want to put the book down! Anyone who has visited the National Parks, or just spent time in the outdoors, can probably relate to at least one tale in the book. For me personally, my family has done alot of boating and I was laughing hysterically during the chapter on boating, including mishaps that occur when launching a boat! I think anyone who enjoys the great outdoors and humorous real life tales will enjoy this book.
Heartwarming but..........2007-09-08
I've got to say that this book definitely made me care about the narrator and feel for the amazing amount of sacrifice and difficult situations that he and his family endured in service of our National Parks. And it's very hard to knock that ever, especially from someone who seems so genuinely likeable and friendly. However... this is not the greatest book. The combination of acronyms and Shakespeare quotes seems quirky and interesting at first, but quickly gets old. The "people are idiots" theme gets somewhat overplayed. Many of these stories and humorous anecdotes are the tough-day-at-work/funny quote type of thing I would put in an e-mail to family or laugh about with friends, not the kind of thing that I would record for posterity.
The last chapter of the book, among other things, earnestly advises you not to get high and jump off a cliff. If you are the kind of person who would responsibly read a book of back-country safety tips and stories, you are probably not also the person who would take some hits of acid and decide to roll off a cliff. Or you are. But that's on you and no books will help you at that point.
I like the author and his family. I feel for his struggles and sacrifice and find the humor in some of his stories. But I can't call this a great book.
A fun, light-hearted book.......2007-09-04
This is a great book that is fun to read, each chapter can stand alone, so you can pick it up at your leisure. A great book to take on vacation.
It tells humorous stories of misadventures in our National Parks written in a way that you feel Mr. Burnett is talking to you. It gave me a good laugh and some good advice for visiting these or any parks.
(Snake in the cold water is my favorite story!)
Milk Toast.......2007-07-09
Hey Ranger ! Is lightly entertaining & minimally informative. It is well written but the acronyms the writer makes up are corny & get old quick. It's just not that interesting !I read these type books on a regular basis & must say that it is below average & definately not on my Re Read list. I keep most of my books but this one will be gone when I'm finished. Try Jim Reardens "Alaskas Wolf Man", Pete From's book "Indian Creek Cronicles",Larry Kanuit's books or Dick Proenneke's story.
Not a bad read.......2007-07-03
The acronyms are really annoying--don't pay attention to them. At times the author used so much detail that the stories became rather boring. However, there are a few humorous stories in the book. And, I did enjoy the way he introduced his stories with "Hey Ranger, how about you ___". Good info on park history. A worthwhile read in spite of skimming though sections.

I picked up the book, at a local Borders Books and Music store, and found it to be a great gift for kids who like baseball.
Bought it - Loved it.......2001-11-11
Old Time baseball players give advice to kids. Most of these guys played in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. It's interesting to read about them and what they have to say. Book includes simple baseball tips (non-technical), and illustrated by kids.

Hey, Dad, Get A Life.......2007-05-22
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a ghost parent? Well, in this book it talks about a girl named Kelly whose dad died. Then her dad comes back as a ghost! Kelly begins to ask her dad for so many things, he gets tired of it. Will he keep spoiling her or will he stop doing whatever she desires, and be a good parent? I think it was a great book and I enjoyed it so much because it was suspenseful and full of exciting parts. Once you start reading it, you cant stop!

Hey, Dad Get A Life.......1998-05-14
I have read the story about 2 times already. The story is about 2 sister who must face a horrible truth that their father died. But somehow the ghost of their father return home. He help his two daughter alot of things like: win the basketball championship, help them to clean their room, cheat on math test, and other things. I recommend everybody to read this story because its a very emotional book. This book tell you how they can't accept their father dead. Its a really okay story.
My reluctant reader could not put this book down........1998-01-26
My daughter has ADD and is a reluctant reader, usually choosing books under her current reading level and short in length (60-70 pages). She devoured this book in just a few days and would not put it down until done. She loved it! I would like to give the author a hug for finally helping my girl break through. Read it!

Book Description
In Brian Doyle's first book, teenager Megan dreads making a road trip all the way across Canada with her parents and younger brother Ryan. Her father's tendency to joke doesn't help. She'd rather stay home and be president of the Down with Boys Club any day. But she has no choice. She has to endure endless driving, being trapped in a car with her younger brother, and the great view of the transport trucks that box them in on all sides. But as the days go by Megan begins to think. There are constant reports on the radio about forest fires across huge parts of the country. There is the old lady who owns a motel and is so glad to have the family stay there because the recent death of her husband has left her lonely and sad. There are the cute boys at a lakeside stop. All these experiences jumble together in her head. Love and death, family and friends, what matters and what doesn't, fill her mind as the vast country unrolls before the windows. As always in Brian Doyle's writing, sadness and laughter bring redemption as Megan reaches the coast and an understanding of what's important.
