An Obscure Biblical Book Unveiled!.......2005-11-04
Published in November, 1751, the title page of the book says: "translated into English by Flaccus Albinus Alcuinus, of Britain, Abbot of Canterbury, who went on a pilgrimage into the Holy Land and Persia, where he discovered this volume in the city of Gazna." The book claims to be written by Jasher son of Caleb, one of Moses' lieutenants, who later judged Israel at Shiloh. Jasher covers Biblical history from the creation down to Jasher's own day and was represented as being the lost Sefer HaYashar mentioned in the Bible. In Alcuinus' purported translation the book the Law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai not by God but by Moses' father-in-law Jethro.
If you are a scholar of lost books of the bible and the old testament in particular, you will find this book quite informative and arresting. Definitely a worthy read!

The Lost Book of Enoch: Comprehensive Transliteration of the Forgotten Book of the Bible
ASIN: 1555179193 |
Book Description
The Book of Jasher, reprinted for the first time in several years and with a new introduction by popular author W. Jeffrey Marsh, offers Bible readers interesting and important insights into the first two thousand years of biblical history.
The Book of Jasher follows the biblical accounts in Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. It reads like the Bible but includes interpolations and elaborations not found in the Bible. In addition, it sheds light on Bible stories from the time of Adam and Eve, the ministry of Enoch, and the account of the great Deluge during the days of Noah to the Tower of Babel, nefarious Nimrod, and faithful Abraham and his descendants.
As Moredecai M. Noah wrote in his introduction to the 1840 English translation: "Without giving it to the world as a work of Divine inspiration, or assuming the responsibility to say that it is not an inspired book, I have no hesitation in pronouncing it a work of great antiquity and interest, and a work that is entitled, even regarding it as a literary curiosity, to a great circulation among those who take pleasure in studying the scriptures."

Awesome Content... So much Light on the Scriptures!.......2007-10-01
I really loved this book, it shed so much light to the Bible Stories, like Cain being killed by Lamech and the Stolen Garment associated with the Curse of Ham...
The Book is awesome... well worth the bucks!!!
My Comment for you if you wanna buy it is:
Just DO IT!
Review of the Book of Jasher.......2007-10-01
This book is written in such a way that it enhances the first five books of the bible. It goes into much greater detail on the stories we all have learned by reading the holy bible. One example is the hate / love relationship between Esau and Jacob. This is a significant historical record as the Book of Jasher is mentioned in both I Samuel and Joshua.
Great for Bible studiers.......2007-01-10
I can understand why this book was left out of the Bible, but really glad it wasn't trashed!! I got the full writtings off the web and loved that also. Liz

The Book of Jasher
ASIN: 1933580143 |
Book Description
The value of The Book of Jasher is seen in the large quantity of additional detail revealed from the period between divine creation and the time of Joshua's leadership over Israel when the Israelites enter into the land of Canaan. The Book of Jasher includes details about the antediluvian patriarchs, angels, watchers, the flood, the tower of Babel, and many other events mentioned in the Bible. The tales are expanded and infused with detail not previously available. This means we receive insight into the lives of Abraham, Noah, Enoch, Joseph, and many other biblical figures. We come to understand how they became great and why they acted as they did. We are also given hitherto unknown knowledge of historical events. We are shown how God's hand shaped history through his love and anger. We see how his disappointment with men and angels ended in earth's near total destruction.

The Book of Jasher - Quoted in the Old Testament - Held in high regard by Mormons - - - The Book Of Jasher, or Sefer Ha Yashar, is referred to in the books of Joshua and Second Samuel of the Holy Bible. "Behold it is written in the Book of Jasher."--II Samuel, i. 18 "Is not this written in the Book of Jasher?"--Joshua, x. 13. Jasher (Yashar) is a Hebrew word meaning "upright". Jasher is not the name of the author or any prophet or judge of Israel, as scholars had previously thought. The name refers to the fact that the record, facts, and history are upright, correct, and thus, trustworthy. The value of The Book of Jasher is seen in the large quantity of additional detail revealed in the period between divine creation and the time of Joshua's leadership over Israel when the Israelites enter into the land of Canaan. The Book of Jasher includes details about the antediluvian patriarchs, angels, watchers, the flood, the tower of Babel, and many other events mentioned in the Bible. A New View - A Fresh Translation.......2006-05-02
This version is a breath of fresh air. It is written and edited for the modern reader. Sometimes it is difficult to see through archaic language and into the meaning of a text, but this one is clear. It is written in more tightly formed and informative phasing, more suited to modern style. Some translators seem to take delight in obscuring their work with Elizabethan or "King James" English to make themselves and their books sound more authoritative and important. To the reader of today, these old idioms are useless frills. This translation is clear, direct, and well written, while keeping to the original meaning of the text. I highly recommend it.
I would also recommend Lumpkin's work on The Lost Book of Enoch, Jubilees, and the Gnostic Gospels of Philip, Mary Magdalene, and Thomas. He also has a very odd and interesting translation of the Tao Te Ching available.

A Fascinating Read!.......2005-08-25
This is a wonderful adjunct to the Book of Moses. The Book of Jasher offers many details the book of Genesis does not. Whether you believe it is a forgotten book of the Bible or just an historical account, it is most fascinating and worthwhile read!
It's a fun book.......2002-02-23
It's about 100% unreliable, nonsense histroy has proven wrong countless times however...I still enjoy reading it. Just think of it as Moses: Behind the Prince.
Curiosity value.......2000-01-10
Originally published in England in the early 1800s, the book purports to be the story of Jasher; an Israelite leader from the time of Moses and the Judges. Jasher gives a recap of major Biblical events and characters up to his time, then his own account of the Exodus, conquest of Canaan, and Israel's early days. Many details appear that are either not mentioned in the Bible, or are considerably different from the familiar ones.
Most scholarly mention of this work is negative; available articles point out that 1)The King James English of the book is not the English Alcuin knew (900 years before the KJV!) and 2)Nothing anywhere in this work validates the two Bible references to the "book of Jasher." Despite the introductory notes (especially those added in later republishings), the end notes admit that the work itself is not of Biblical grade or intent, and merely serves as a second account of early Bible events. The book does have some value in the study of what makes the cut and what doesn't, and has reappeared several times the last couple centuries. It's best taken with a grain of salt.

I BOUGHT THIS BOOK FOR MY HUSBAND. I THEN PURCHASED IT FOR MYSELF, FAMILY AND FRIENDS AS GIFTS. IT HAS BEEN A BLESSING TO READ AND REREAD IT. IT HAS SHED MORE LIGHT ON WHAT THE BIBLE HAS TO SAY ON MANY SUBJECTS. WE HAVE DISCUSSED THE CONTENTS IN DEPTH AND OUR FAITH HAS INCREASED. THE "BOOK OF JASHER" IS NOW BEING TAUGHT ALONG WITH THE BIBLE IN OUR CHURCH. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF COMBINDING THE BIBLE WITH THE APOCRYPHA, BOOK OF JASHER AND THE BOOK OF ENOCH. EVERYTHING WILL BE IN "ONE BOOK OF SCRIPTURES".
Great for a bible study or Torah discussion.......2005-12-19
This book is worth your time if you are interested in the missing details of famous biblical stories. Some are similar to the accounts of Josephus and Rabbinic commentaries which reinforces the claim to its origins in Antiquity. There are some numerical inaccuracies that the translator missed noting and a few embelliousments to stories that sound as if they were later additions but on the whole it is a jewel.
Reader beware!.......2005-10-08
This book is a fabrication. If you want a 19th American updating of the Israelite story, help yourself. Just don't take it seriously.
A Lost Book of the Bible.......2005-08-26
This is a great companion to the book of Moses and to the Bible as well. An enlightening book!
Has the ring of authenticity and makes fascinating reading!.......2003-10-25
The Book of Jasher, or "The Upright Record" is mentioned in the Old Testament twice (See Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18). Incidentally, "Jasher" is not a person's name but is the Hebrew word for "Upright." Like the Book of Jubilees, the Upright Record is a retelling of the Genesis story from a different person's perspective other than Moses'. It also contains a wealth of detail missing from Moses' abbreviated account. For those who wish to read this book, you should know that there are two books circulating that are entitled "The Book of Jasher." The one that is supposedly a ninth century translation by Flaccus Albinus Alcuinus (the Abbot of Canterbury and the religious tutor of Charlemagne) is an obvious forgery.
The books of Joshua and 2 Samuel in the Old Testament mention the Book of Jasher or "Upright Record" as a source of information for two historical events that the Bible covers briefly. These two stories are contained in the thirteenth century translation, but the incident in 2 Samuel is not covered in the ninth century edition at all. Furthermore, the thirteenth century translation appears to have been made from a Hebrew original. Besides the claim that it came from a Hebrew original, the thirteenth century copy of the Book of Jasher has the sound of an authentic historical document written by someone with a Semitic background who actually witnessed some of the recorded events. This thirteenth century edition is far longer than the ninth century edition and contains too many authentic cultural descriptions of Near Eastern and Semitic life to have been invented. Furthermore, none of the more vivid and colorful historical and cultural recollections in the thirteenth century edition that give it such a ring of authenticity appear in the supposedly older manuscript by Alcuinus.
Since the Book of Jasher is not considered a religious document but a historical narrative, however, some of its stories may have been embellished or may contain inaccuracies. In addition, the Book of Jasher 's chronology for certain events differs in some cases from the abbreviated Genesis account of this time period in the Bible. I always trust that the Bible is more accurate in these cases. Nevertheless, the Book of Jasher has great value as a history since it offers a wealth of details the Genesis account by Moses lacks. In many cases, it can help us to understand difficult passages or situations recorded too briefly in the Bible. Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to prove whether or not the thirteenth century copy of the Book of Jasher available to us today is a legitimate Bible history or not until a much older manuscript is found. Someday, I hope this will happen. In the meantime, however, I am allowing the Holy Spirit to guide my choices and I believe that there is enough internal evidence in the Book of Jasher to prove that it is authentic.

Book Description
Virtually ignored since it was discovered, the Book of Jasher holds vital clues to interpreting and understanding Biblical chronology, from the Flood to the Exodus. A mistake made by Archbishop James Ussher, who was unfamiliar with the book of Jasher, led to a 60-year error in placing the birth of Abraham. But this error is corrected in the chronological keys provided by the book of Jasher. And with these keys, an intriguing, and astounding story emerges. The book of Jasher, mentioned in the Biblical books of Joshua and Second Chronicles, was faithfully translated into English from the Rabbinical Hebrew in approximately A.D. 1840. Says the translator's preface, "the ever memorable events and transactions recorded in Scripture are with many others of the most interesting nature, comprehended in the Book of Jasher; and they are all arrayed in that style of simple, unadorned majesty and precision, which so particularly distinguishes the genius of the Hebrew language/ and this, together with other numerous internal evidences, it is presumed will go far to convince the Hebrew scholar that the book is, with the exception of some doubtful parts, a venerable monument of antiquity; and that, notwithstanding some few additions may have been made to it in comparatively modern times, it still retains sufficient to prove it a copy of the book referred to in Joshua, chapter x, and 2 Samuel, chap. i. Please Note: This book is easy to read in true text, not scanned images that can sometimes be difficult to decipher.

Book Description
This book contains a more detailed account of the awful circumstances attending the commencement of the flood, and of the conduct of Noah toward the terrified multitude who had assembled about the ark, when the fatal moment had arrived, and their doom was irrevocably fixed. From this book we learn that Noah and Abraham were contemporaries. How beautiful the contemplation of the meeting between these two Patriarchs, the one being a monument of God's mercy, the other having the promise of the favor and grace of God, not only to himself, but to his seed after him. This apocryphal classic is once again available from the Apocryphile Press.

Book Description
But in the latter days of Methuselah, the sons of men turned from the Lord, they corrupted the earth, they robbed and plundered each other, and they rebelled against God and they transgressed, and they corrupted their ways, and would not hearken to the voice of Methuselah, but rebelled against him. -from Chapter IV Believed by some to have been the original beginning of the Old Testament, The Book of Jasher has been suppressed and rediscovered numerous times since its initial translation from the Hebrew in AD 800. Referred to in Joshua and Second Samuel, this apocryphal book of the Bible expands upon some of the stories we know so well: we meet Cain and Abel's three sisters, are privy to a more detailed account of the awful circumstances of the Great Flood and Noah's conduct toward the multitudes who assembled before his ark, and learn more about the women of the Bible. Jasher's version of the story of Abraham is considered by many to be the most beautiful as this new perspective on the Old Testament will inspire believers and intrigue readers of ancient literature.

Jasher.......2007-05-15
I find no real discrepency between this book and the Bible, I enjoyed reading this book even though it was not canonized.
I'm not sold on this book........2007-01-13
The book reviewed here is the orange paperback some of the other reviewers mentioned.
This book comes off quite bizarre in some of the added details to OT Scripture.
One example is "Adonizek King of Jerusalem, the same was Shem." (Chapter 16:11). This Adonizek sounds a lot like Melchizedek of Hebrews 7:1-3. The setting is identical, following Abram's victory in Genesis 14. I have heard the theory that this King/High Priest was Shem. The problem with this is that Shem has a genealogy(Gen.6:10) while Melchizedek doesn't(Heb.7:2-3).
There is a lot more information in this book regarding Nimrod and his death, the death of Og King of Bashan, the life of Enoch, and the sons of Jacob.
This book purports to give more details to the Old Testament, but are these additions fact or fiction? The answer is probably a bit of both with some passages being exaggerations of fact.
I am sure that there was indeed a "Book of Jasher" as mentioned in the Bible. Is this it? I am not convinced that this book is the genuine article.
Jasher.......2007-01-13
This is a must read for every Christian. It is like we have been reading the Reader's Digest Condensed version of the Old Testement and Jasher is the whole and real thing. If you want to find out truth you need to buy this book.
