Excellent way to see London close-up.......2007-09-14
This book is wonderful for doing walking tours of London on your own and seeing the neighborhoods close-up rather than just the gloss over the tour companies give. The variety of the walks in this book is excellent in length and variety of things to see. We needed to use another map to get us back on the walking tour in a couple of places but mostly that was because we were staring at the sights rather than following the tour directions properly. The times given for the tours are definitely at a leisurely pace that allows for plenty of time to look at the shops and sites along the way. Showing starting and stopping points at the Tube stops made the walks very easy to get to.
Walking London.......2006-11-12
So much good information. Can't wait to start walking! So many walks, so little time!
Highlight of my Trip.......2004-07-10
I wanted to get to know the city in more than the typical touristy way, and this book made it possible. The walks were really the highlight of my four weeks of study in London; I met so many interesting, friendly people and saw so many things that might not have been destinations in and of themselves but were memorable as part of the walks. I was a college student (female) traveling alone when I used this book, and it gave me the confidence to explore many places that I wouldn't otherwise have ventured to, simply because I had some sense of what I could expect when I arrived. One of the most amusing moments was when I bumped into another walking tourist at the Portabello Road market...he also had a copy of the book and was following the Notting Hill tour on the same morning that I was.
This book is a gem.......2003-04-01
I used this guide while walking in London two years ago, and I'm taking it to London again this summer. The variety of walks is a joy. I did not see this book on sale while in London, and some English friends saw mine and wanted a copy for themselves. No wonder--it's that good. If you like to walk and do other exploring besides the usual London tourist things, then don't go to England without a copy of this book in your suitcase or backpack. My only suggestion to the author is to bind future editions of the the book in a way that the chapters can be removed and replaced. So I wouldn't have to carry the whole book along, I tore the pages out for each walk I did, and then taped them back in place afterward, but there must be a better way.
Brilliant Walks.......2002-06-23
Highly recommended if you are planning an extended stay in London, or have been there a few times already and seen the major sites.
My favorite memories of six months spent working in London were of the walks I took from this book just about every weekend. Some of the walks are short enough that you can do two or three in a day, depending on what adventures arise. The best for me was Kew to Hammersmith, along the Thames, an all day walk, where I had tea in a church basement, a pint in a pub on Strand-on-the-Green, got caught in a rainstorm in a church graveyard, got lost in the woods on the grounds of Chiswick Manor...my workmates were very impressed, and started asking to come along!
Book Description
Preteen and early years are some of the most difficult times in our lives. "My friends won't talk to me." "I can't get good grades no matter how hard I try." "The kids tease and laugh at me." "I hate school!" Caught in time between child and adult, middle school kids have a unique set of problems that need answers.
Sometimes middle school kids feel like they won't survive. Although the advice in the book is dead serious, it is written with a touch of humor that every middle schooler can identify with. Author Merry L. Gumm, a middle school teacher for 15 years, writes the book as if she is talking directly to the reader. The back and forth banter between reader and author keeps the book interesting and lighthearted while giving specific ways problems can be solved. The book is full of time-tested solutions that help middle school kids realize they CAN survive.

Delightful reading.......2007-06-09
This was a really fun book to read as a preparation for going into Middle School. It had practical tips and guides for a scared and anxious going-into-middle schooler.
A practical-minded self-help book for young people.......2005-05-08
Help! I'm in Middle School... How Will I Survive? is a practical-minded self-help book for young people. Written by an English middle school teacher of 15 years of experience, Help! I'm in Middle School offers straightforward advice for improving grades, making friends, getting things done, how to get along with teachers, how to stay out of trouble, what to do in response to bullying (the stone face is important, but the bottom line is that one will most likely have to tell an adult about it to make it stop), the difference between tattling and reporting (tattling is telling on someone just to get them into trouble, but reporting serious bullying or attempts to hurt people is necessary for self-protection and protecting others), and much more. Presented in a simple format that outlines what works and what doesn't work in response to a wide variety of common problems, Help! I'm in Middle School carries the highest recommendation for middle school-age children and middle school library collections.
Book Description
In I Will Survive Lori Robinson has created a valuable resource for African-American survivors of sexual assault (as well as their families, friends, and communities), incorporating personal stories, civil rights history, and a call for community activism. An award-winning journalist and a rape survivor herself, Robinson walks readers through the ways survivors can experience emotional, physical, sexual, and spiritual healing, offering her firsthand knowledge on the particular difficulties African-Americans face on their journey toward recovery. She also explores why black women are more likely to experience sexual crimes—an insightful discussion framed in the context of the American slave system and modern institutionalized racism. This groundbreaking guide for African Americans contains an abundance of culturally specific and compassionate advice and information that includes accessible instruction on navigating police, health care, and legal systems, as well as an extensive resources section. The book’s sympathetic, informative, and ultimately hopeful advice will resonate with African-American survivors and all those who wish to support them.

AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN CAN HEAL .......2005-10-10
This book is long overdue, for years the sexual abuse of African-American women and girls has been largely ignored by white and black communities. Sexual abuse and racism go hand-in-hand, yet myths persist that sexually abused African-American women and girls are traitors to black men and boys if they refuse to accept black male sexual abuse is acceptable, because black males experience racism. Sexual abuse is not separate from racism it is interlinked and this book shows African-American women and girls how they can seek help and heal from the devasation of sexual abuse. It is about African-American women and girls who refuse to be victims but are survivors. A must read for all who are involved in challenging male sexual violence perpetrated upon women and girls of all ethnicities and cultures.

Tammy HAS survived!.......2004-01-25
FABULOUS book that could only of been written by Tammy!
Its not particularly deep as the title would suggest but it does touch points that I think anybody would understand and identify with. Its basically a collection of thoughts and feelings and stories. But they are unmistakably from Tammy Faye and her wit and sense of humor and general zest permeate everything! One of the truly well-written, personal books by a "celebrity" where one feels they really made a connection with the author.
As somebody whose interests in Tammy come from her role as a gay icon, not a televangelist, the book can get preachy at times and if you're not into reading the Bible you'd better avoid whole sections of the book as the Bible and Christian ideas are oft-quoted and Tammy is clearly rooted in her faith. But I really feel that her faith is as much a part of her as her false eyelashes! In fact she is one of those Christians that really have that inner light they are all striving for and even if you don't agree with the particulars of her religion she has an undeniably beautiful spirit.
OF COURSE most of the book IS about false eyelashes...and clothes and wigs and purses and shoes and shopping!
Its just a hilariously fun ride through the mind of a hilariously fun person who has seen and survived alot!
Tammy's Little Book Of Thoughts & Advice.......2003-10-06
I have been a fan of Tammy Faye since the PTL Club days. I use to watch her and Jim Bakker everyday on The Jim & Tammy Show on PTL. I have read all of her books. But out of her books this is probably my least favorite. I LOVED "Run To The Roar" it was a book that really changed my life on how to face my fears. She titles one of the chapters in this new book "Run Towards The Roar" but really never goes in full details of the story behind running to the roar. For those who haven't heard the story or read Run To The Roar I reccommend it.This book "I Will Survive" is a fun book. I enjoyed it very much. A few recipes, make up tips, wig tips, nail polish tips, bible scriptures, encouraging advice. Its more of a journal than a book on surviving personal trials though. The weakness of the book is some of the chapters are very short...and kinda leave you with a taste for more. But I do love the fact that it is a very simple book and very easy to read and understand. This one is a lot of fun...but instead of calling it "I Will Survive" it should be titled "Tammy's Little Journal For Inspiration". If you ever loved Tammy, pick it up. Its a lot of fun. If you want a book on the PTL scandal though & her biography..."Telling It My Way" is the book she wrote for that topic.
Inspirational.......2003-09-29
There are several books that enlighten you, and this is surely one of them. Then there are books that change you, books that you take with you for the rest of your life, and these you must share with fellow seekers. These are the books that have unconditionally inspired me to be a better person and that I recommend to anyone searching for inspiration. The first is "The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho" this book is all about a shepherd trying to find his treasure. In the end he realizes his treasure was the journey, the people he met, the souls that touched him(How beautiful!) The second is "Siddhartha by Herman Hesse" A brilliant tale of a man who gives up everything for a journey of enlightenment. On his journey he meets the Buddha, he meets ascetics, and he meets his...(I wont spoil it for you). The last one is for kids, but it is still beautiful. "The Butterfly by Jay Singh" is a tale about a caterpillar in search of her smile! One day this caterpillar realizes she can no longer smile anymore because she is living an inauthentic life. She musters the courage to leave the Silk Palace to find her smile and discovers a whole new world that was hidden from her. Buy them, read them, be inspired!

Book Description
Poor Ellen. Her boyfriend is cheating on her ... with her best friend. Her other (male) best friend is in love with her when he really shouldn't be. Her beauty queen sister is on a rampage. And her mom is having an affair with one of her teachers. At first, Ellen wants to climb into bed and never get out again. Then she decides she's not going to take this all lying down. She's out for revenge -- a very comic revenge, with some very unintended consequences. This is Fay Weldon for teens -- a fun, sassy look at making it through high school with your heart in one piece.

Flat.......2007-04-04
I thought this book wasn't very well-written. It's charcters were 2 dimensional and their dialogue wasn't believable. It was hard to relate with any of the characters because, really, who acts like this in real life? Of course things like betrayal of trust can happen in real life, but ellen's schemes for revenge worked a little too well. I would not suggest anyone with a brain read this book. It ws boring and just...well, flat.
Could be better.......2005-05-08
Though I Love kristen kemp, and most of her novels, this wasn't as could as I expected, and I was a little disapointed. I do have to agree with one of the reveiwers about this book, it was pretty sloppily written, and was extremely short- for a teen novel. The summary said that the main character did many revenge schemes, but she only did one big one, and it took till the end of the book for her to get there! It was also a little uncomfortable to read as well. I think Kristen Kemp is a great author with talents to make peaople laugh and she writes phenominaly, but this book wasn't one of her best. I recomend- "The Dating Diaries" by Kristen Kemp, it is funny, longer, not sloppy and is a real page turner- I loved it, and I think its much much much better than I will survive- wich was very sloppy- sorry Kristen Kemp!
So True!!.......2004-03-15
Once I read a book that captured exactly what high school is about. The book is called "I Will Survive." This is the best book I have ever read! This book had a hold on me. I couldn't put it down. I would read one chapter and have to read another becuase I couldn't stand the suspense! This book deserves 5 stars, if not more!
The book delt with a teenager being betrayed by the people closest to her.... But I'm not going to spoil the ending. So if you thought the book sounds good in review you have to read it! It's not one of those boring books you have to drag youself to read it. You want to read it. It's not only suspense it's a thriller just to read. You will imagine youself as if you were her, dealing with the pain and the sweet revenge.
Survive-Kristen Kemp.......2003-10-10
This book had major potential, but was lacking some nessecary qualities! It was sloppily written, and the point of view was really obscure. One minute it would be all about Ellen, and the next it would switch to another character with no warning! I did think it was mildly entertaining, but I finished it in a couple of hours. I was disappointed by this, I think it could have gone a lot further! If you enjoy teenage angst novels (such as this) with a little more depth, then Life is Funny, Speak or Sloppy Firsts (and its companion Second Helpings) are books that I would suggest instead of this.
"I Will Survive" By Kristen Kemp.......2002-10-16
Kristen Kemp really knows how to keep people entertained in her books, especially teenagers. "I Will Survive" explains the hard times of being a teenage girl going through boyfriends, friends and family. Ellen has the best boyfriend, so she thinks. He is perfect in every way, except that he is cheating on her with Melisha, Ellen's best friend. Her little sister Eve, the "beauty/drama queen," is ruining her life going out with her second best friend Julian. Instead of being depressed her whole life she decides the best thing is to get even with revenge! I think that any teenager going through high school with any sort of problems should read this book.

Cute Contemporary Romance.......2004-02-06
Librarian Jessie Banks has always been a fan of the reality TV show SURVIVE THIS!, along with it's super-cute host, Nick Garrett. So much so that she reads every book that she can get her hands on about survival. Knowing that she'll never use any of the information that she finds. So when she gets chosen to be a contestant on SURVIVE THIS!, she realizes that it's time to prove herself, and possibly get cozy with Nick. Of course, being on a reality TV show is harder than it looks. Especially when you're dealing with two other competitors, a scheming producer looking for ratings, secret cameras, and tricky challenges. Not to mention that you're a sucker for the host's flirty personality, and boyish good looks.
Jumping on the reality TV show bandwagon, Samantha Connolly has created a hilarious tale of what everyone in America is looking for at the moment: scandal, romance, and competition. Jessie is a fun character whom is not only intelligent and witty, but strong, both physically, and mentally. Her "relationship" with Nick will have readers young and old on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what happens next in their twisted, yet hilarious, romantic escapade. A must-have book for all who enjoy a fun and cute contemporary romance every now and then. Or for any of you reality TV buffs.

entertaining contemporary romance.......2004-01-10
Renowned survivalist Nick Garrett hosts the popular weekly TV series "Survive This" in which he shows his fans how to live off the land. Nick announces that his show will sponsor a special in which three individuals will be selected to survive a stint on a tropical island.
Librarian Jessie Banks is a big fan of Nick's show and though she knows that she has no prayer of being chosen by her hero, she fills out the application anyway. She is shocked when Nick names her as one of the three contestants.
The first confrontation between Nick and Jessie makes great TV, but terrible embarrassment for the librarian. Things turn worse with only her bag and humor to keep Jessie afloat as she finds the real Nick even more desirous than the TV Nick. Surprisingly, Nick finds the small town book lover as the most exciting of the three stranded women. Though they fall in love, misunderstandings make anything between Nick and Jessie off island seem unlikely.
I WILL SURVIVE is an entertaining contemporary romantic take of the Survivor TV series. Fans will appreciate the heroine for her courage and her growing confidence to compete for the grand prize, which in Jessie's mind is Nick especially at nite. Nick is a solid individual and the other contestants and TV crew are developed just enough to add depth. Though one of the rivals is too nasty to compete with Jessie for Nick, the tale belongs to the lead female who will gain her love forever or lose the contest even if she ends up with the glory of the first place money.

The worst book in the history of human civilization.......2007-04-08
The title here of my review says it all. This has to be the worst book ever written. First, the content. This is a work of a fiction. But anyone who knows the author and her story knows that this is little more than a smear job on her family. The only reason that this book is presented as fiction is so everyone doesn't sue her. And do not even get me started on the way the book is written. This is the downside of self-publishing. There is little to no oversight whatsoever. In this book, words are frequently misspelled and there is no structure at all to sentences or paragraphs. It is always advisable to heavily proofread your manuscript before you present it. If you feel your grammar isn't up to par, hire someone to do it for you. Always ask for an advance copy before the book hits the stands. That way, if you feel the publisher botched the printing of your book, you can call them on it before lasting harm is done. Nothing turns off readers quicker than a poorly-written book.
In closing, don't waste your time with "How Will I Survive?". There are plenty of better, more credible stories out there, which are written a lot better than this rag. Only read it if you're looking for an example of what NOT to do when writing your own book.

Being Born Again.......2004-09-08
PLUM CRAZZZY is the fictional story of Monique Kennedy. As a new creature in Christ, Monique attempts to depart from her old ways and walk down her newly found Christian path. Along the way, she stumbles over obstacles that she considers were a test of evil by the devil.
As a divorced mother of two children, Monique struggles to balance her family responsibilities and employment obligations while still searching for "Mr. Right," whom she feels will complete her. Instead of leaning on God's will and trusting that He will provide, Monique tempts fate by seeking out male companionship. As a result, she keeps on getting what she has always gotten - nothing.
When a pair of married friends introduce Monique to Frank, he seems too good to be true. Monique feels that at any moment someone could pinch her and wake her up out of her living fantasy because Frank is so distinctively different from anyone she has dated. In her blossoming relationship with Frank, will Monique learn to apply her Christian values? During the course of her Christian journey, we see Monique mature in her relationship with God, yet will she be able to ask for forgiveness for her past transgressions and then walk forward into the realm of happiness?
All in all, PLUM CRAZZZY is a very well written example of Christian literature. The reader is taken on a journey of someone who is new within the body of Christ. The book portrays the trials and tribulations that Monique must endure and ultimately tells of spiritual growth. This tale is realistic because it addresses every day issues that a Christian may face. I offer kudos to Monique Anderson for penning an interesting story and look forward to more from this author.

A Changed Life.......2004-08-03
Monique Anderson says her God is just a Plum Crazzzy God. That because when he tells you to do something and it does not make sense, you just think, He is just plum crazy. But, as Monique learns as she chronicles her walk with God that if you trust Him, you will reap all kind of benefits.
Monique's prayer in the beginning of the book was that she would meet a 'Christian" man and she did in the form of Mark, a deacon in the church. Monique and Mark begin a relationship, but early on it is apparent this is not a relationship condoned by God. Monique suffers spiritually and personally as a result of this relationship. Monique's friend, Linda, invites Monique and her children to her church. At this church, Monique begins to grow spiritually and as she does, her faith increases and therefore her blessings increase.
When I read this book five years ago it was a blessing because I was at the same point in my life as the author. Trying to find that Mr. Right by myself and making all the wrong choices. Now, picking up this book again, five years later, it was a blessing to me because I am at the point the author is, learning to let go and let God be my guide in a new church with a renewed determination. Full of scriptures and prayers, this is a book I will highly recommend to any single young ladies who are looking to God for a blessing.

A Wonderful Book.......2001-02-27
A family friend gave me this book for Christmas in 1998. At first I was reading it as a novel. I could relate to the early part of the book, because I had been through all that myself in previous years. However, it wasn't until the middle of the book when my life and the author's life became very similar. At the time, I was believing God for a husband. I had also decided to do courtship God's way and not have sex until marriage. At the point in the book where Monique reached the point of being sick of doing things her way and decided to do it God's way, I began to cry profusely. Her story only fed my faith that God would deliver in my life in a big way. You see, when you stand in faith - nothing wavering, not compromising - God honors your faith and delivers exceedingly abundantly more than you could ask or think. He did for the author of this book - Monique, and in 1999, He did for me. I'm now married to a wonderful man of God who fit what I asked God for to a tee! And we had a holy, God-honoring courtship with no sex until our wedding night. And guess what, God will do it for you too, once you sell out to His Will (His Word) and His Way (as described in His Word)!!! Wanna feed your faith for a Godly husband? Read this book!!!! Then, live a life that honors God, and He will not let you be put to shame but will manifest just the type of man you are dreaming about. I dare you to try it! God will come through for you, too!
