Maurtius, Reunion & Seychelles.......2007-10-05
This book is well organized and written. Of the three nations covered, I was most interested in the part of the book on the Seychelles. Unfourtunately, that was the least covered place. I found the other book I ordered: The Bradt Travel Guide to the Seychelles, more to my liking.
Indispensable Guidebook.......2005-04-18
I booked a tour to Mauritius in May-June 2004. Although I went with a travel agency, this book proved to be indispensable. I am rating it a five star based on my Mauritius experience only.
First and foremost, this guide provides a detailed map, essential for locating yourself on the island.
The book also provides true and accurate description of the various attractions and things to do.
The traveling tips concerning transportation, food and local culture were extremely helpful and saved me precious vacation time.
On top of all this, it provides a wealth of information on hotels and restaurants.
My advice:
- The prices in the book might be a little off now. It seems that the local currency, the Rupee, is pegged to the Euro which makes this island more expensive for US travelers (advice based on the currency conversion as we speak)
- Beware of tourist shops, their prices are 5 times the price you can get for the same item on the popular market.
- Go visit the popular markets, you will find nice exotic hand crafted items and some world renowned vanilla beans.
- Take hiking trips, there is some breath taking scenery out there
- And of course, take advantage of the magnificent beaches and water activities
Average customer rating:
- Excellent for a trip to Mauritius
- Indispensable for a Seychellois trip
- Fantastic Guide Book
- Outstanding Guidebook
- I never put it down.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent for a trip to Mauritius.......2003-12-02
I spent 4 weeks living with a family on Mauritius this past summer, and this book was invaluable. I had many days to myself, and this book made it very easy to get around, with tips on restaurants that were up to date, good info about getting places on the bus and what things to see. The maps were probably the most helpful, especially in places like Port Louis and Grand Baie. I would recommend this book to anyone traveling to Mauritius, whether on a package tour, or on their own.
Indispensable for a Seychellois trip.......2002-08-01
Two summers ago we went into Seychelles, and Mauritius,Reunion& Seychelles LP travel guide was essential for us. Thanks to it, we could discover Seychelles was not just a diving and incredible beaches paradise, but its interiors landscapes were the best of our journey. We recomend it,because its fantastic information about Mahe,Praslin and La Digue islands, their national parks (such as Sainte Anne or Vallee de Mai). Prices were as high as the author wrote! and all information about public buses, rent-a-car and restaurants was right. Just one thing, we couldn't find where La Gogue Reservoir was! If anybody can strength the lake exists, please let us know!!
Fantastic Guide Book.......2002-06-04
This guide was my Bible while I traveled through Mahe and Praslin islands in 1999. The Seychelles are full of kind, open-hearted locals who are generous and more than willing to show Westerners around. My trusty LP guide helped me find several reasonable b&b's, Michael Adams' studio (wonderful local artist) and the most perfect beaches in the Indian Ocean. What I love about LP guides, and this one in particular, is the extensive history of the area the book is covering, as well as the locals' interests. Those intending to visit this incredible area should take this guide book - the photography alone will tempt anyone.
Outstanding Guidebook.......1999-11-18
I used an earlier edition of this book on a trip in 1996, in which I visited the Seychelles, Mauritius, and Reunion. I was travelling independently (not as part of a package tour) and the book helped in many ways to make my trip a great one. It provides a wealth of information about hotels and restaurants, island culture, and places and things to see on the islands. If you can only visit one of these three islands, I would recommend the Seychelles, which offer some of the finest tropical scenery I have ever seen. One advantage of Mauritius for the budget-minded traveler is that it is considerably less expensive than the Seychelles.
I never put it down........1998-11-04
My husband and I have just recently returned from a two week trip to Mauritius. Although we booked our trip through a well known travel agent and stayed in a hotel, the Lonely Planet Guide was invaluable. If you are considering a trip to Mauritius and are toying with the idea of a self catering option (which I actually would recommend), you need this book. If you are going for the hotel option but are interested in seeing the island and sampling the local cuisine outside the hotel, you need this book. Don't go without it. Everything that there is to see and do on the island of Mauritius, is in the book.

A Comprehensive Guide.......2000-07-20
We used this book during our recent trip to the Seychelles. It was thorough and guided us to colorful reefs and the descriptions of dive sites were better in real life than the book described ! Fantastic guide.

Book Description
In the mood for a Summer Hummer?
How about a French Flirt or a Neon Nexus?
or Maybe even a Sin City Slider?
This book includes these and 150 more cool cocktails for a crowd—everything from classics like Sangría, Martinis, and Manhattans, to newer favorites like Kamikazes and Mudslides, to international raves such as Brazil’s Caipirinha and Cuba’s Mojito, not to mention liquor-free variations. Plus, there’s information on mixing techniques, ingredients, equipment, and glassware, hangover helpers, tips on party food for non-cooks, and a user-friendly index that lists recipes by ingredients.
Serving pitcher drinks is an ingeniously effortless way to entertain and still have fun at your own party. It’s an idea whose time has come—in fact, it’s long overdue. No doubt about it, a premixed pitcher of drinks is a huge asset to any gathering. Making individual cocktails not only takes time, but removes you from the action. So mix up a batch of pitcher drinks and join in the party. They’re stylish, fun, and easy, and they definitely take the angst out of entertaining!

Oh Yeah.............2007-05-21
The perfect remedy for a hot, humid day, when all you can hear is the corn growing. Full of great information and tons of recipes, it truly is the "Ultimate".
When You Want to "Consume Mass Quantities".......2006-09-04
By Bill Marsano. "Pitcher Drinks: Cool Cocktails for a Crowd," by Sharon Tyler Herbst makes it clear that, frankly, there are few ways to have more fun than to slip into Margaritas-for-the-Mob Mode, which can mean mixing drinks in stock pots, buckets and if necessary washtubs (stirring with paddles is optional, but plenty of ice is mandatory). Herbst, an award-winning author of numerous books in the hospitality realm, is smart and reliable (the TV quiz "Jeopardy" uses her books as reference works). There are plenty of recipes, a good glossary of drink and bar terms, useful measuring equivalents, hangover cures for emergency use (she recommends not overdoing to begin with, which is always smart advice, so be sure to read her chapter on How to Light Up the Party Without Getting Lit), hints on what she blithely calls Garnishes and Fandangos, and more. In short, this book is all you'll need to get well started on the road to quality fun for quantities of friends. --Bill Marsano is a James Beard Award-winning writer on wines and spirits.
Awesome drink ideas for many occasions.......2006-01-26
I have tried the mojito, soo refreshing! The rum rush punch and hurricane are tropical and I went through three batchs in one hour at a football party!! I'm going to try so many more. Good book for people who like to mkae big batchs of drinks for friends!!
This book seriously rocks!.......2005-07-21
Maybe "Dracula Fan" needed some more blood in his bloody mary-something to nourish his rather small brain. Okay, I'm sorry to get personal, but his (or her) review just doesn't track.
This book seriously rocks! I've made most of the drinks in it over the past year . . . they're not only super EASY, but FUN and DELICIOUS! And as for the "no pictures" remark, well most of us haven't needed pictures to understand things since grade school-the recipes here are crystal clear. Besides, smart people know that photos pump up the price, and this book has 150 recipes for a very reasonable $10.36 (Amazon price). Yes, this book is small (5 x 7 inches), but it's packed not only with great recipes, but with loads of other information-from definitions of liqueurs and liquors, to measurement equivalents, to garnish ideas, and so on.
Too bad a dead-head review can knock down the rating of such a good book. I'm giving it 5 stars and it deserves it!
What's with Dracula Fan????.......2005-07-16
I don't know where "Dracula Fan" was coming from with his/her 1-star review. Maybe the reviewer wanted to knock down the rating of this excellent book for some reason. Or maybe he or she is someone who has trouble following clear, concise recipes--after all, the reviewer can't even spell "recipes." I love this book--it's fun, stylish, and not at all hard to read. No, it doesn't have pictures, but it doesn't need them. The recipes are easy, VERY clear and every one makes perfect sense. More to the point, the drinks TASTE good and every single one we've made have been a huge hit with friends and family.

Jessica invites SVJH /SVMS to party and they invite H.S.......2005-03-20
The Twins's parents are out of town on this convention, and Jessica throws a party. She invites her best friend,Lila Fowler, and Bethel MCcoy.Salvadore makes up a comic for the magazine calls it Wonder Girl. It is named after Elizabeth. Anna is a little jealous because she wanted it to be named after her. Lacey invited her boyfriend,Gel and Gel invites his band and they bring Alcohol. They also smoke in the house, police are called. Jessica and Brian say they are practicing for a play called"Rave" A Lamp gets broken. We find out Anna's brother,Tim got killed by a drunk driver. The twins and Steve are grounded for throwing the party. If anyone should be grounded It should be Jessica.
What Happens When A Party Gets Out of Hand?.......2004-11-16
So, Jessica decides to throw this slumber party...that turns into a party with a few friends...that turns into a huge party with tons of kids that she doesn't even know. So many things can happen in one night, as everyone soon finds out. One thing being that Lila, Jessica's BFF, could now care less about her.
This book continues a cool series told from each character's point of view. The main characters in this book are the party animal-Jessica, the responsible one-Elizabeth, the secretive one-Anna, and the funny one-Salvador. I enjoyed this book, but some parents may find it to contain slightly mature content, being when the party gets out of hand. But if you are a Babysitters' Club reader, I would recommend this series to you right away.
Book4.......2004-10-07
In this book, the twins' parents are out of town, so they decide to throw a slumber party...that turns into a party...that turns into the party of the semester! You get to read about the party from each charecter's point of view, which I find to be very interesting. And this book includes almost all the charecters from previous books. I would only say that many issues in this book are slightly more mature, and I would not recommend this book to children with very protective parents.
PARTAY TILL SUN COMES OUT!.......2002-04-01
i liked this book! i think Sal should tell anna how he feels and go out wit liz! it was a cool book! but then again, all sv books are cool!
Par- tay !.......2000-10-13
Jessica and Elizabeth parrents are going away for the weekend , so they're going to be alone with Steven , Jessica who isn't very popular at SVJH decides that if she holds a party it would make her more popular . First it starts out as a little sleepover party but it soon turns to the biggest party of the year ! the side story iz that Salvaor likes Liz and he tries to let her know that . This book was really good .

Grabber Activities for Kids in the Library.......2005-05-14
Librarian-humorist Rob Reid, author of Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Library, offers 18 new wacky and offbeat programs designed to delight the elementary school-age crowd. Each program opens with a thumbnail overview, followed by combinations of poetry, picture books, chapter book excerpts, and short stories. Audience involvement includes word play, reader's theater, dramatics, writing, music, sports, or crafts. Reid also shows how these programs can be adapted for younger (preschool) or older (fifth and sixth grade) children. (summary by South TX Library System)
My Children's Services staff is always on the look out for ideas like these. Several years ago, they launched a pre-teen/early teen library club for after school. It really changed the dynamics of our unruly afterschool crowd. I strongly recommend that libraries work with (instead of against) this age group.
