Great Travel Guide!.......2003-08-09
I just got back from my first trip ever to Barcelona . I went armed with the following:
1.) Footprint Barcelona Handbook 1st Edition 2002
2.) Lonely Planet Guide 2nd Edition 2001
3.) Lonely Planet Guide 3rd Edition 2003
4.) Eating Out in Barcelona and Catalunya : by (Craig Allen)
I'll try and center this review around the :
(A.) The FootPrint Barcelona Handbook (FBH)
(B.) The Lonely Planet Guides (LPG)
Basically, if i had to choose between the Footprint Barcelona Handbook (FBH) and the Lonely planet guide (LPG), the (FBH) would remain my main reference .
I carried it with me every day and planned a whole lot of my itenary out using it.
apart from the great many sites for hotel reservations on the internet and the ones provided by (FBH) , (FBH) had a greater listing of hostals,hotels and information about their services.
I was going on holiday to Barcelona for an entire week.
ie: from the end of July to the end of the first week in August -( Peak season ).
I booked late ie : 3 days before leaving, so after exhausting all the budget hotels in the (LPG) looking for one to fit my hotel budget at the time ie: no more than 100 Euros p/night, i found that the extra hotels listed in (FBH) saved the day.
The FBH has many handy maps of the city , its metro system and an overall map of some of the neighbouring towns & cities in the region.
As a quick break down:
I spent the first 3 days in Barcelona getting to know the area via the Touristic bus -(Bus Turistic), metro, taxi & bus.
sampling the local catlan cuisine , the highly recommended eating spots, bubbly -(wines) etc.. you name it.
I then took a south-bound day trip to explore the cities outside of Barcelona ie: to Reus & Tarragona via a guided coach trip organised by the Tourist Information office at Place de Catalunya. (Not to be missed)
The rest of my time was spent around the Coastal line, visting relics from the roman era, shopping et cetera. loved it all.
These are the key points between the 2 guides:
ie:
(Strengths,Interesting features,Missing bits of info b/w the two)
(LPG) strengths:

(LPG) is strong on walking tours, it features some colorful, glossy pictures to whet the guide buyers appetite for the experience ahead. it also provides you with info on the museums, a bit on the festivals, touches on a few places to eat, where to get entertained et cetera.
it was also good on information about Tarragona ie: planning a quick itenary of places to see when you have but a limited window of time to carry out your visit. the eating spot in Tarragona recommended in LPG 2nd edition ie: (L'Ancora) served up a great seafood barbecue. (Not to be missed)
(FBH) strengths:
---------------
(FBH) is strong on maps by any quarter you find yourself in, including things to do or see while in that quarter, recommended places to eat in the neighborhood, the night life, places to have breakfast, opening and closing times for all restaurants featured -(so you know which ones are open on sundays and those that stay open till late w/out your needing to call first). it even gives you a listing of Barcelona by cusine ie: if you fancy french cuisine one night and mediterranean or catalan cuisine another afternoon; it even includes a locations index and price ranges for these eat-out spots in the appendix.
It features a useful plan of the metro which i found rather nifty for planning & finding my way via metro w/out having to get to a local station first. It was like one of those mini London metro/tube maps you get as a tourist, only this one's featured at the back of the guide already.
(FBH) is also strong on Entertainment,nightlife & History. I saw many interesting sights in Barcelona and the brief history section here gave me an idea of the forces that moulded & shaped the city into what it looks like today.
Both guides feature information on some of the places and sights outside Barcelona ie: Costa Brava,Montserrat,Sitges,Figueres,Port Aventura and bits about how to get there and things to see or do.
With the guide i was able to plan my itenary to focus on enjoying the many scenes -(tapas bars,museums,nightclubs) , eating well ,swimming in the sea , enjoying the many beaches , exploring the surrounding region, shopping and visiting relics.
Equally, although both guides provide you with some very useful phrases in castilian spanish and catalan, English is spoken by many although not entirely so . French is also very well entertained, though you'll find any attempts at communicating in Spanish rewarded with a smile and some appreciation.

This is an excellent guidebook - packed with information, beautifully phrased, and obviously written by someone with a great knowledge and love of the city. The author's enthusiasm is infectious and you feel as though you are strolling the streets in the company of a knowledgeable and delightful friend.

Bon Appetit does it again--a great resource for entertaining.......2002-01-22
With my busy schedule, I dont have the luxury to test new dishes before I entertain. I know I can always count on recipes from Bon Appetit cookbooks and this one is no exception. This book is not only a cookbook but a menu planner and resource guide. Last weekend I had 10 people over and served the following from the book: spicy shrimp in snow peas, deviled eggs with smoked salmon and green onions, spinach bacon spirals, and layered enchilada casserole. All got rave reviews. In the fall I used dishes from the barbecue menu. This book gives menus and planning tips for a number of entertaining ideas--from Saturday potluck to help yourself brunch to drinks and eats.
I highly recommend this book--get it anyway you can. But you can't have mine.....
Entertaining can be easy!.......2000-05-27
This cookbook really does make entertaining easy. Not only does it offer delicious recipes that we've come to expect from Bon Appetit but it organizes them in such a way that your menu and time easily managed.
There are three sections which are themed around a particular type of event: Occasions, Instant Entertaining, and Get-Togethers. Within each section, there are menus for specific functions (Celebration Dinner, Elegant Shower, Romantic Dinner, Kid's Birthday Party, Big Anniversary, Potluck Housewarming Party, etc . . .)
The feature I like the most is the timeline for each function's menus. For example, for the Kid's Birthday Party, send out invitations, shop for nonperishable food items and paper goods, decorations, and candles three weeks ahead. Two weeks ahead, bake and freeze cake layers for birthday cake, etc . . . .
One other item to mention is there are pictures of every recipe (something I find very useful).
I recommend this book wholeheartedly. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

To address some of the questions that the reader might have:
* This course is very easy to digest but will take about 4-5 hours of your time.
* It covers a great deal of many different subjects related to concession sales.
* Previous experience in this field is not necessary.
* The Dvd's give several good menu suggestions next to full instructions on preparing a variety of barbecue meals.
* Mr. Robertson shows a lot of experience and enthusiasm in his field.
* There is an Index of links as well as recipes towards the end of the book.
The author did an excellent job at describing ways how to get started in your own concession vending business. I have been operating a ball game concessions stand for over 8 years, next to my day job as a teacher and I have become quite experienced in this field. I know that there is a lot of money to be made with food sales. At sports events, the food and drinks are an essential part of the whole fun, no matter how pricey they are. The only drawbacks are the ever increasing concession fees to set up at the games. This is yet another reason, why owning a business as an independent operator makes a lot of sense.
After reviewing this course, I was able to learn a great deal more about concession sales. If you are thinking about starting out in this field, I can highly recommend it!
fun and informative!.......2007-02-16
I originally bought this for my husband and ended up watching the DVD's with him. They are really packed with a lot of information and with valuable tips from a real professional.
Now BBQ became our first choice of foods to sell. The recipes in the film are truly wonderful and turned out well the first time we tried them. We also will focus on Tex-Mex foods that are very popular in our area.
The book gave us lots of good ideas that we will use in our own business. The author is right: cooking for fun is one thing- cooking for money is another! It was good to watch someone else do it first. Probably saved me from making lots of mistakes!
Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and I am glad I found it!

This was by far the best purchase I made on amazon this year. I enjoyed watching the DVD's that covered far more than I expected.
I have always wanted to have my own restaurant, but never have been able to get it together. The trailer food business is more my thing, as I can leave it parked in my backyard when I don't want to sell. I had trouble finding information on the subject of mobile food vending and I wish I would have seen this course earlier. It has taught me a lot about this business. The film showed interesting background info and a lot of food being prepared for resale. The ribs looked delicious and I now always cook my ribs this way. Watching the procedure is like being there and much better than just reading about it...
The book is easy to follow and covers pretty much everything I needed to know. I am not much of a chef, but people were all impressed by the food I prepared the way it is described in the book. I fed over 300 people in one day by myself at our block party and made good money doing it. This guide was very helpful to me in my rural area. It also made me feel like I can actually put a business like this together in my spare time.

I think this is a great book except that Nancy and Ned aren't together. This isn't mostly about parties or anything. Nancy is trying to stop Charley Stern from ruining the weekend, and she's got to find the person who's stolen something. Amazon is a great company. I can't find this book anywhere else!!

It is the Day after the Junior Prom,and The Twins and their friends go to Big Mesa High or Bridgewater and compete in games with other schools. Olivia is almost killed when she falls. Jessica shows Christian's surfing videos to make the fighting stop,Jason Gorman,Christian's brother is at the games,too.

This book was about Junior Class Competition getting ugly. Then Jessica saves the day by( well just buy it to see what it is ) You wouldnt expect it form jessica. It has to do with Christen Gorman which is terribly sad because jessica and him were meant to be and he died. well jsut buy the book bc it is really good... but it's depressing because elizabeth and todd arent back together yet..

She is so excited,she wants her team to win very much. Jessica Wakefield is willing to do pretty much anything to make her team(SVH) win. During all this excitment Jessica is reminded of her past love Christian. Christian was lost during a riot just like the one Jessica is about to get involved in. Jessica is very worried that something terrible might happen to one of her friends or even her. A big fight occured between some of the different schools and one of the being Sweet Valley High(SVH). Jessica went and got a whole bunch of slides of christian when he use to surf and all the things he use to do and projected them in front of the whole auditorium. Once everyone realized what was being projected they all stopped fighting and took intrest in what was showing about christian. At the end everyone noticed what could of happened had they kept fighting. So what Jessica did stopped what could have been another tragedy.
I recommend this book for numerous reasons, some of the being;
It shows what can be accomplished with good team work. It also shows what could happen if everyone thinks of them slef as a single and not a team.One person can make an impact on hundreds of people.This book was exciting in saome parts and sad in others.

This book was a bit sad cause it brought back how much Jessica loved Christian. She feels surprised when she finds out it was his brother. But in the end Christian comes through to her and helps her stop what could have killed another person.It was a great book so i recomand u read it.

When Mr and Mrs Wakefield go ou of town on a trip they hire a babysitter to stay with them,May Brown,She is strict.The kids don't like what she prepares for dinner,or what she suggests to wear.Elizabeth tricks May on the night of the party,so they can invite their friends in,but she stands up to the parents for the kids.She wasn't so bad after all.

Things start out harmless enough, the parents are out of town and Jessica wants all the attention she can get. As it turns out Steven is also throwing a party on the same day that Jessica is. So they combine the parties for the biggest one in Sweet Valley. Things change fast when the kids find out that they aren't going to be alone. Their parents have hired a sitter for them...the meanest sitter ever. Will they get to have their party? Yes. But it doesn't turn out the way they had planned.
