Really, a waste of paper.......2006-04-06
This tiny, outdated excerpt from the larger Fodors guide to Mexico is practically useless. You can read the whole sightseeing section on your coffeebreak. Too much time is spent on side-trip suggestions -- it's almost 1/3 of the book!

Disappointed--save your money.......2007-07-23
I ordered this book because it was about the only book specifically devoted to Cabo. I was very disappointed. I carried the book to Cabo and back but didn't really use it. If you strip away the generic "travel" information and the history information, this book contains little that is useful. The restaurant reviews are good, but not all restaurants are covered. The reviewers below had more valuable suggestions than this book, such as -- don't rely on credit cards, bring cash, small bills.
The book is woefully out of date. It doesn't even contain a decent map!
don't leave home without it.......2006-03-23
I took a hastily-arranged last minute trip to Cabos, not having had any vacations in 20 years -- and not having much money. I knew we needed expert advice fast, so, trusting Fodor's, we got this book. We ate exclusively at restaurants recommended by this book (we had a car rental.) We made sure we hit both the most expensive place recommended by the book and the least expensive joint that they recommended. Both were equally highlights of the trip. The rest of the time, we ate at recommended places that were towards the lower end of the price scale. We were never disappointed! At Macambo's and Ahorcado, I even took pictures of the food. These were the kinds of places that you would never find by wandering around the tourist area -- let's just say they were "out of the way" and a few a little out of the comfort zone of some tourists. Are we ever glad we took that book! A piece of advice -- take more cash, in small bills, than you think you'll need. If you need emergency medical care like I did (not Montezuma's Revenge, BTW) you'll have to pay hundreds in cash. Far fewer places take credit cards than do in the US. And by all means, take this book. They know what they're talking about.
Los Cabos Guide very helpful.......2006-03-14
We went to Cabo in February 2006 and found this guide very, very helpful. I don't know what other guides are available, but this one is packed with accurate info (if just slightly out of date as it is a year or two old). It omits a couple of new restaurants that have recently opened but is otherwise very accurate. The recommendations of activities, hotels, places to eat and things to see were spot-on. I think it's worth getting if, like us, you do not know the area. Also, it is small and lightweight and you can just stick it in your pocket or purse. We went to a few restaurants we never would have found but for this guide, and generally they were better than what our hotel had recommeded.
Great Gift.......2006-01-07
I gave this to my brother who is going on his Honeymoon to Cabo. A great resource to bring along, especially if you cannot access the internet.
Perfect companion for Cabo.......2003-11-02
This book was a wonderful companion in Cabo San Lucas. The recommendations were right on target, the writing is enjoyable and entertaining, while providing useful information at the same time. I highly recommend this book as it made my vacation more enjoyable!

Great maps and history.......2000-05-23
My Husband, children and I traveled through the Baja Penisula for a month earlier this year and we used the maps and information found in this guide. The full-size very detailed maps were more useful than other maps that we brought along. The book listed destinations(and historical facts on these destinations) in the order you would normally travel through them if coming in from the North and also includes recommendations for excellent dining locations and incredible little known sites that we never would have found. We could have made the trip without the guide but it made it easier and more enjoyable.

Book Description
It isnt easy dating a prince, especially when that prince is Hamlet. It could easily drive a young girl to madness, or so it would seem.Since the death of his father, Ophelias beloved Hamlet has descended into a deep depression. To make matters worse, the Danish court is filled with lies and deceit. Was Hamlets father murdered by King Claudius? Is Polonius truly the father of Laertes? Who can be trusted as a friend? And who is to be feared as an enemy? It is up to clever Ophelia, with the help of her friends, to find a way to save her prince and herself. Only then can she finally reveal the truth about what really happened in the famed castle at Elsinore. With Shakespeares classic play as a frame, Lisa Fiedler gives voice to Ophelia in a gripping novel full of romance, ghosts, and a touch of alchemy.

Dating Hamlet gives kids a start for Shakespeare.......2006-10-31
I've read this book quite a few times, and I liked it very much. It encourages the younger reader to open to Shakespeare's plays, and I think Lisa Fiedler has done it very well.
Great job, Mrs. Fiedler!!! You rock!
Hamlet - but with less deaths and a happy ending! .......2006-04-16
Dating Hamlet is a great read and it's the kind of book you can read again and again. I first read this book when I was 10 and now I'm nearly 13 and I have read it again I really understand and appreciate the book. The story is very good because even though I loved the Shakespeare play, and this book gives more depth into the characters and Ophelia is portayed as a much stronger person than she is in the play. It is a very moving book in some parts, like at the funeral of Ophelia.
I like the way Lisa Fielder has wrote it, by using the proper language and writing with Ophelia's thoughts and emotions.
I would recommend this 'Dating Hamlet' highly as it is such an excellent book you can read over and over again and still get new things from it. I hope Fielder writes a sequel!
It may be predicable, but what's wrong with a happy ending?
An interesting turn of events.......2006-01-18
I normally put down any book that I realise is written in first person, with a few exceptions. It takes a certain amount of skill to write in the first person and sound like a character, a character I am willing to deal with for an entire book.
Ophelia's voice in "Dating Hamlet" was at once engaging and easy to follow, inspite of a pretty good attempt to mirror Shakespearan english. (Mind you it isn't perfect and the characters do not, except when being a bit silly, speak in verse). The book is the author's effort to give the power back to the female characters that she had encountered in the classics, Ophelia is one of the most unempowered women in Shakespeare's whole opus. To empower her took alot of back plot that was not in the original work.
With few exceptions it works really well, in my opinion. One example being when Hamlet is making his first mad speech to himself in the court and looks up (a gesture I remember) he is actually speaking to Ophelia who has hidden herself up in the gallery of the throne room. As I was reading this I was imagining how this could be staged in tandem with the play, how a director might alter Ophelia and Hamlet's actions to allow the audience to know, that Ophelia was in on the plot. (I am inclined to this anyways, having in yesteryear written a paper taking that side, just for the outrageousness of the idea)
Mind you, a few moments are a bit too contrived, but it wasn't so painful as the rest of the book was very enjoyable, and remarkably realistic. The ending is probably the most contrived bit about the whole work, but I am not going to argue with it, in fact I wouldn't mind reading her other book about Juliet.
It was also amusing to see that the crux of this book rested on a frequent plot device of Shakespeare, one that is utilized in Hamlet. That being the play with in the play. We have here, the traditional play used to catch Claudius, and Hamlet's play acting at being mad but also--Ophelia, Laertes, the Gravedigger, Horatio and Ophelia's lady in waiting, Anne, in on the plot. A whole new cast of inner play players.
The book is an easy read, I picked it up on my dinner break and finished it before going to bed. Enjoyable, probably more so for anyone who is rather more than less familiar with "Hamlet."
Depressed about Hamlet's Tragedy? How 'bout try a Happy one?.......2004-01-16
Well, i wouldn't say that this was the best novel i have ever read, but i wouldn't say it was bad. True enough, there are several points that are not at all corrisponding to Shakespeare's Hamlet, but it was over all amusing, if you want a Hamlet with a happy ending where everything goes alright and they live happily ever after, well here's your choice! it was an interesting read through and through, even though the idea is not exactly original because it was based on Shakespear's work, i'd say it is a original as it CAN be. Ophelia is a character who did not have enough influence to Hamlet in shakespear's play, now? and i agree with the author's idea about the fact that if Ophelia was a bit stronger, then she might have actually prevented this tragedy from happening, and she therefore created this version of Hamlet which is not only works but flows fairly well despiet the changes to the Original Hamlet.
I think that over all this novel was fairly interesting, i wouldn't call it 100 out of 100 points, but i think, for an teenage novel targeted for young adults i think this is an overall good read, worth your time. i especially liked the ending where the author cleverly brings in Romeo and Juliet, i'm actually hoping there might be a "Dating Romeo" in one of her next works.
Dating Hamlet- My thoughts.......2004-01-01
It depends what you are looking for when you read this book. If you are looking for a story mirroring Shakespeares classic tragedy in every detail, then you will be disapointed, for in this version a lot of details have been twisted.
If, however, you open this book because you want to read a story about love, treachery and friendship in the Middle Ages from the perspective of a teenage girl, thn you will find this book better suited to you.
It is best not to read this with any expectations of it becoming your favourite book of alltime, because though the storyline is mildly interesting, and the language used conforms with the set time, and occasionly uses some original text from Shakespeare's play, the narrator (Ophelia ofcourse) seems a bit unbelievable, and the happy ending too contrived to be conceivably possible.
All in all, I'd say this book is worth buying if you've got a bit of spare cash and want a book to read on a rainy day, but it's not the sort of book I would recommend to make a big fuss about getting your hands on.
