4 out of 5 stars A pleasant little book to savour.......2004-11-18

This book makes a great gift item for anyone in your life who lives/has lived/enjoyed a visit to - San Francisco. Scattered throughout the 140 pages or so is a stunning collection of photographs and prints capturing the colorful majesty of America's, "city by the bay." Accompanying these artworks are snippets of prose by writers ranging from Mark Twain to William Gibson, ruminating on the various charms and quirks of the foggy city. The best prose snippet comes from William Saroyan as he recollects an eye-opening collection of sights and sounds as he visits the 1915 World's Fair as a young boy travelling with a group of fellow orphans. All in all a nice book for anyone with an appreciation for all the charms that San Francisco has to offer.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for anyone who knows a child with DS.......2007-09-28

I love this book! It is well written, contains great photos, colorful pages, and it has an awesome message! Ben describes his life and every so often asks "have you guessed my secret yet?" Towards the end of the book he explains about Down Syndrome. At the end he says "you can call me "special" but...most of all I hope you will call me "friend." As a special education teacher I appreciate the fact the book is really not about DS, it's about Ben. Bravo!

After a brief career in professional bodybuilding, Jake Steinfeld found his calling in helping others pump themselves up. Beginning as a personal trainer to Hollywood celebrities, he soon started his remarkably successful Body by Jake brand of health and fitness programs. Now he hopes to motivate readers to start their own businesses. His experience of learning on the fly and following his instincts led him to believe that street-smart, self-taught entrepreneurs like him have a unique perspective on starting, running, and growing a business that MBA teachers and graduates don't have. And he must be on to something--in addition to his workout videos and exercise products, he also started a 24-hour fitness television network (that he later sold for $500 million), a profession lacrosse league, and many other ventures.

In a humorous, down-to-earth way, Steinfeld offers practical tips on writing a business plan, building a team of partners, hiring and training employees, securing start-up money, branding and marketing, and even working with philanthropic organizations. Though the information he offers is not groundbreaking, the way he tells his own success story should inspire would-be entrepreneurs. Steinfeld obviously loves what he does and his enthusiasm is contagious. He wants people to not just build a career, but to build a life; something that makes them excited to go to work, or better yet, to not think of it as work at all. Breezy and fun to read, the book strives to help people find their motivation, pick a goal, learn from failures, and most importantly, never quit. Good advice for business or any other pursuit. --Shawn Carkonen

Book Description

Foreword by Steven Spielberg

Body by Jake founder Jake Steinfeld has helped millions of people pump up their health, their bodies, and their self-confidence. But can he help you pump up your business? You bet! Whether you're already up and running or have always dreamed of having a great business, Jake is going to help you get to the next level and beyond.

Jake has seen a lot of big-name celebrities naked. No, not like that! Naked, as in "stripped" of the trappings of their fame and fortune. No entourages, no PR flaks, no designer handbags -- and no bull. These famous folks are people just like you, and they don't have anything that you haven't got.

As Jake taught them how to get and stay fit, he learned from them: what makes them tick, and what makes them successful. That knowledge has helped him turn a personal training business into a premier fitness product brand, a 24-hour fitness television network, a professional sports league, and instant recognition everywhere he goes.

Now it's your turn! You don't need an MBA to start your business, or to get the one you have into fantastic shape -- what you need is street smarts, practical knowledge, and a "don't quit!" attitude. Think of this book as "Business by Jake." It's an eye-opening success story and an entrepreneur's tool kit -- combined with a motivational kick in the "buttissimo" that is pure Jake! In addition to Jake's own amazing account, you'll also read insightful stories about Steven Spielberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Aaron Spelling, and other luminaries from Hollywood, professional sports, the business world and more. You'll read about the unique relationships Jake formed with each person, and what he learned from them even as he taught and inspired them to be their best. You'll learn proven strategies to help you:

* Start, build, and grow a business. * Make connections, establish a network, and put together a great team. * Find partners and investors. * Build a high-profile brand. * Develop the courage to take risks. * Turn failures into springboards to success. * Build goodwill and good business through community involvement and charity.

Jake's message is simple: If he can do it, anyone can. And all those famous people? Remember, Jake has seen them "naked," and they've got nothing on you!

So get pumped up, don't quit, and start flexing your business muscles!

"Jake is the quintessential American success story. Once you've read his book, you'll realize why!" -- Tommy Hilfiger, Fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger Corporation

"Jake's inspiration and direct, down-to-earth approach to business gave me as a woman building a brand the confidence never to quit and to follow my dreams." -- Cristina Ferrare, Founder, Cristina Ferrare Designs

"I've learned more about business from Jake than I did at Princeton! This book is gold. Read it!" -- Dave Morrow, Founder and CEO, Warrior Lacrosse

"Jake Steinfeld is the master entrepreneur. If I had this book when I started out twenty years ago, our company would be years ahead of where we are today." -- Mark S. Mastrov, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, 24 Hour Fitness

"As a young entrepreneur, I never had a road map for what to do. Jake combines his street-smart hustle and boardroom muscle in this real-world example of how to be a self-made business success." -- Kevin Plank, Founder and CEO, Under Armour

"Jake has a unique combination of determination and real-world business skills that have made him a successful entrepreneur. His passionate speech at the Stanford Graduate School of Business entrepreneurship club back in 2002 was an inspiration for me to found the Golden Baseball League." -- Dave Kaval, Past President, Stanford Graduate School of Business Entrepreneurship Speakers Forum, Founder and CEO, Golden Baseball League

"Body By Jake started it all. With Jake's pioneering leadership in the fitness and personal training profession, the revolution began. His inspiration has led us to develop the nation's first four-year academic degree in Personal Fitness Training." -- Ken Baldwin, M.Ed., Program Advisor, Department of Health and Kinesiology, Purdue University

5 out of 5 stars I've Seen a Lot of Famous People Naked, and They've Got Nothing on You! Business Secrets from the Ultimate Street-Smart Entrepre.......2007-07-16

I've Seen a Lot of Famous People Naked, and They've Got Nothing on You! is an inspirational guide to business written by Jake Steinfeld of Bodies by Jake, fitness guru to the rich and famous. I have to admit that I was a little nervous when I agreed to review this book. I was curious about Jake's secrets to his success but I worried that the book was going to be a loud, chaotic, chest beating book filled with name dropping and bragging.

I was so very wrong. Before I had even completed the first chapter, I realized that the author genuinely wanted to share his experiences (including his own insecurities and failures that drove him to achieve his version of success) and his enthusiasm with others so that they could realize their own dreams. Moreover, the author pulled no punches. He stated plainly that achieving success demands commitment and hard work (or rather hard play). Therefore, if you don't truly love what you do, don't even bother to try. These unique aspects made reading this book like having a trusted friend sharing his enthusiasm, his experiences and the resources he had collected over the years in order to help you succeed in your own goals.

I've Seen a Lot of Famous People Naked, and They've Got Nothing on You! creates a deep empowering feeling that will change the way the reader views his or her own dreams and will inspire the reader to commit fully to working towards these goals. Words by Jake to take to heart "A wish changes nothing: a decision changes everything." "Aim high. Then aim higher!" and "Success is failure turned inside out."

4 out of 5 stars Jake Steinfeld builds bodies - and boosts your business.......2006-03-08

A fitness trainer to major Hollywood celebrities and entrepreneurs, Jake Steinfeld mixed personal moxie and bodybuilding to become a self-made multimillionaire. His story, an easy-to-read blend of pluck and luck, is inspirational, upbeat and energizing. He tells good name-dropping yarns about film producer Steven Spielberg and TV producer Aaron Spelling, among others, but he also refers to his grandmother and his parents as major influences. He intersperses his biography with useful, interesting facts for entrepreneurs, including business plan tips and ideas for funding sources. Steinfeld's story is motivational, and you will come to like him and respect him as an interesting, energetic businessman as you read. As a result, we recommend this as perfect reading material while you jog on the treadmill or dream about building your empire. This book is especially appropriate for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Both optimistic and informative, it will pump you up.

5 out of 5 stars A collection of 'street smart' business tips from a body builder businessman .......2005-12-04

Jake Steinfeld's I've Seen A Lot Of Famous People Naked, And They've Got Nothing On You provides a collection of 'street smart' business tips from a body builder businessman who is recognized as a fitness icon, and responsible for creating the personal fitness training industry. Does fitness translate to business savvy? Jake's seen a lot of celebrities stripped of their fame and fortune, and learned what made them succeed and failure: that knowledge helped him build a branded fitness product, a professional sports league, and more - and Steinfeld here shares some secrets of success.

5 out of 5 stars Great Everyday Advice From Jake!.......2005-11-15

Despite the catchy title and Jake Steinfelds fitness past the book I've Seen A Lot Of Famous People Naked isn't a weight loss guide. Even a recent feature in Star Magazine failed to mention this important fact. Steinfeld is a self-made millionaire and in this book he offers real life advice to people who wish to become entrepreneurs. As a matter of fact the books subtitle is "Business Secrets From The Ultimate Street-Smart Entrepreneur." As other reviewers have mentioned the advice is basic such as--do something the interests you and pick a partner you can live with. However, some of the information in the book can be quite helpful to the aspiring entrepreneur who might think they know everything. Steinfeld offers the suggestion of when you go to the bank know exactly how much money you need and be prepared to detail how you will pay back money. Granted a lot of the information in the book is so called getting started in business common sense but if you are just getting started and need a road map I've Seen A Lot Of Famous People Naked is a great book to follow when you are getting started with your business venture.

Can Jessica hide her past?

Jeremy Aames is the perfect guy for Jessica Wakefield.  He's cute, smart--and he doesn't know any of the terrible rumors that are flying around about her.  But will she be able to keep this great new guy from meeting anyone she's ever known before and hearing the horrible stories? Doubtful.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I've Got A Secret.......2005-03-03

Not to be mean, but the review before mine-the one about Jessica being a crazed murderer- is totally WRONG! Jess is not a crazed murderer, as anyone who's ever even HEARD of Sweet Valley would know. I don't know what is up with all these people making up random plots to stories in their reviews (I have heard Liz and Jess getting married and Tia moving to a farm and having 7 kids-oh, come ON!) but this has got to stop. It is totally stupid and the people doing it need to actualy READ the book before writing stupid alternate-universe plots to the book! Oh, and no more spoilers in the reviews unless you are putting the word spoiler in your review. It's really anoying and ruins the whole point of reading the book.
Well, now that I've ranted ( :D ) on to the book. Yes, well Jessica is now basically a social outcast thanks to the queen you-know-what, Melissa Fox. In this book, she covers for Liz at one of her HOJ (House Of Java) shifts. There she meets Jeremy, Elizabeth's cute co-worker. She finds that he is able to make her laugh and help her forget about what is happening to her. She starts to like him, but she doesn't want him to find out that she is knowm as the class slut in school. Will Melissa ruin everything again?

1 out of 5 stars Psycho Jessica.......2003-12-14

All right Jessica turns split personality because of Melissa's taunting. In her alter ego she is this crazed mass murderer and chops Melissa, Will, Cherie, and Gina into cocktail franks. Then Lila and Amy run for their lives to Norway. Finally Jeremy is fallin in love with the real Jessica. But she's scared he'll find out she's a murderer. Okay.

5 out of 5 stars Fourth Books in the SVH Senior Year Series.......2002-06-03

In "I've Got a Secret", a new character is added to the storyline: Jeremy Aames, a Big Mesa football player and your typical "good guy". He and Jessica Wakefield inevitably hookup when Jessica and Elizabeth trade places at each other's respective work sites so each twin can have some time off--Liz to her Silver Chair concert with Conner, Tia, Maria, Angel, Andy, and Evan (Liz, of course, is still after Conner, but now so is heartbroken Maria); and Jess to her dreaded football game between Big Mesa and Sweet Valley. Obviously, with any identity switch the twins make comes disaster--and it looks like one or both of them will get fired from their jobs at House of Java and Healthy.

"I've Got a Secret" is a great fourth addition to the Sweet Valley High: Senior Year series. It was worth seeing Jessica get a little slack--having Melissa Fox get in some trouble, and Jess finally meeting a guy who was single and didn't have a jealous, psychotic girlfriend lurking nearby.

5 out of 5 stars YES!!!.......2002-04-30

I hope you're as excited as I am that Conner and Liz *finally* kiss in this one (page 176). :)

Here are some other big events:

-Tia stands up for Liz (page 26).
-Will stands up for Tia (page 32).
-Jess meets a new guy (page 85).
-The cheerleading captain is announced (page 147).
-Will decides to break up with Melissa (page 161).
-Will decides not to break up with Melissa (page 167).
-Jessica gets fired (page 172).

Enjoy!! :)

4 out of 5 stars Teen drama cover and back should not put you off this story!.......2002-01-15

Yes it's a teen drama but it is still pretty good.Although this cover they are showing you is not the original and it looks hideous!!
Basically these are some of the storylines included:
Jessica:Does a twin switch with Elizabeth and ends up meeting Jeremy who she really likes but is scared to go out with him because she thinks he find out about her reputation and ditch her.(yeah, right!)
Melissa:Really wants to be cheerleading squad captain.Doesn't get it and is gutted(this happens at the end of the book and is continued in the start of the next one.)
Jeremy:How he worries about lying to his friends and Jessica.
Tia:Hilarous part when she bashes Melissa because of what she did to Jessica in So Cool(no 3)
Will:Finally realising he feels suffocated by the manipulative ball and chain.Ditches her twice in the book.Hurrah!
Elizabeth:On a mission to kiss Conner.Pathetic as it sounds.
Though it is pretty funny when she gets dumped in the pool.
Maria:Trying to get Conner back. Not suceeding very well.
I hope I didn't spoil any storylines.

I quite like this book. The parts in between chapters are good as you can really get into the way a character is thinking.I like the change of characters but it makes me wonder how they're going to fix everything up for university.I think they've started doing that because Megan liking Todd has brought him back into the story and Enid is already becoming distant so it doesn't matter about her storyline.
Although they will have to mention Winston,Lila,Todd and Enid more in the later books won't they because of Sweet valley university?
This review is to let you choose if this will be your cup of tea and hopefully it will help you make a decision on whether or not you want to read it.
Happy reading:)

5 out of 5 stars A Little Book With An Important Message.......2002-10-22

No matter what you are going through or how long the journey has been this little book is packed full of hope and a significant message to women and even men who struggle with regret and shame of any kind.
If there was ever a topic that touches a central nerve in our country, it's abortion and it's not something most people want to address. The fact is, 1 in 4 women have terminated a pregnancy and for many that brings a lifetime of pain and unrest.
Kimberlee Stone was on the precipice of infertility, that chasm that, in her mind, separated her from women who were healthy and whole. After an abortion in college, she never dreamed that when she and husband Regi were ready to start a family there would be problems. In her book, I've Got A Secret Kim shares her thoughts, prayers, hurts and joys taken from her personal journal entries over the course of several years. Kim doesn't share her story from a present tense but from the midst of the pain, from the very center of her struggle. She opens the pages of her life and pours out her emotional and spiritual dependency on God and God alone, taking you down that sometimes crooked road of faith that we walk.
The important message does not lie in the healing from the abortion alone, it is in the message of hope and restoration for anyone who struggles with guilt and shame, regardless of the circumstances. The message that God does hear our cry, that He is a forgiving God and that He does answer our prayers, is what makes this little book so great!

5 out of 5 stars Why Did I Ever Look?.......2000-01-15

Michelle, Cassie, Mandy, and Lee are making a 'Kids only' paper. The first one they make mistakes. They put stuff people don't want the whole city to know about. So they make an apology paper. Then they think of a great title for the kids at school to read about... teachers! On the news they see a jewel theif. While Lee is trying to learn what is in the mystery room, Michelle is trying to know what is in the box Ms.Iburg is keeping in her room. Then... Uh! She's sorry she looked!

4 out of 5 stars This book reminds me of my little neice!.......2006-07-27

This book is ideal for parents, uncles and aunties out there whose little sons, daughters, neices or nephews are expecting little brothers or sisters, or already have one. The illustrations inside the book are reminiscent of cute angels that I used to collect and display in my bedroom. This will really turn a child's jealousy into love for the new member of the family.
