Book Description
Basic Accounting Fresh From the Lemonade Stand
The world of accounting can be intimidating. But, more often than not, there's no way to avoid it--even non-financial jobs venture into financial jargon and concepts. For those trying to get more done at the office, organize the dollars and cents in a small business or just in need of a refresher, there's no reason to turn to the average number-crunching class again.
The Accounting Game presents financial information in a format so simple and so unlike a common accounting textbook, you may forget you're learning key skills that will help you get ahead!
This book uses the world of a kid's lemonade stand to teach the basics of financial language and records. You'll run your own lemonade stand and make it grow by creating signs to advertise it, borrowing money from Mom, buying lemons and sugar and selling to the whole neighborhood. As you run your stand, you'll begin to understand and apply financial terms and concepts like assets, liabilities, earnings, inventory and notes payable, plus:
--Know the difference between accrual vs. cash accounting methods
--Create and understand an income statement and balance sheet
--Track inventory using LIFO and FIFO
--Create cash statements and understand cash flow and liquidity
--Apply your new knowledge to real-life situations
The revolutionary approach of The Accounting Game takes the typically mundane subjects of accounting and business finance and makes them something you can easily learn, understand, remember and use!
The Accounting Game is produced by Educational Discoveries, the training industry's leader in accelerative learning technology. More than 70,000 people have graduated from The Accounting Game, the world's most successful one-day financial seminar.

The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand
I bought this book with trepidition; I always feared accounting and financial matters. But this book makes learning easy and helps speed retention. Everyone should read this for a better understanding of a sometimes difficult topic.
Fantastic Accounting Book!.......2007-09-17
This book is interesting and entertaining while teaching what is normally a very dry subject. There is enough review for a non-financial type to learn the jargon without being monotonous.
The best accounting book ever, but still suffers some of the same problems as bad accounting books.......2007-08-06
This is an easy, excellent accounting book. It's the best accounting book ever. The examples are clear and understandable. It's fun to read. It gives definitions that you'll remember, and is an excellent overview of accounting.
However, I'm only giving it three stars because it suffers from something that most accounting books suffer from: impossible examples.
This book is done like a worksheet. It's about half simple instruction and half impossible examples. The examples are impossible, because to actually fill them out, you'd have to remember tons of information from 1-10 pages ago. The part where you just read is very good. The part where you're supposed to fill out the account schedules on the pages of the book is almost impossible to do by yourself.
It would be an excellent workbook to be used in a 10-day accounting class, where you write in your book as the teacher writes in his or her book. But, if you're trying to do this on your own, you really would need to keep track of tons on numbers and receipts, etc., to even be able to do the examples.
Dry subject explained in an interesting way........2007-07-19
If you are not an accountant and need to know accounting concepts then this is the book for you. A dry subject explained in an easy and interesting way.
Great BooK.......2007-06-08
This book was very helpful in learning the basics of accounting, I highly recommend this book.

ADORABLE and INSPIRATIONAL.......2007-08-20
I bought this for my daughter and we both love it (me more than her)! She is almost two and doesn't quite get the message of the book; however, she loves the fun rhymes. I can't wait untill she is old enough to make lemonade stand and help the cause. This is a great book for any child!
great cause great book.......2007-03-14
very accessible story for telling little kids about fatal diseases like cancer.
A demonstration of the good just one person can do.......2006-06-03
This is the story of an extraordinary little girl. Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of cancer, when she was one year old. When she was four, she decided to build a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to the hospital where she was treated. News of Alex and her goals spread, so that others decided to help her raise money. Now there is a foundation (Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation) dedicated to continuing her work.
Told in a set of delightful rhymes and attractive illustrations, this is a tale that is inspiring and demonstrates how much one person can change the world if they simply try. If you buy this book, you will enjoy it and young children will be delighted to have it read to them. I also encourage you to make a donation to what is truly a worthy cause.
Fabulous Story!.......2006-05-13
This is one of my new ALL TIME favorite books! I first came to know Alex on the TODAY show with Matt Lauer. She inspired me so much that I bought lemonade from every stand I could find that summer! I was so sorry that her little life was cut so short, but so thrilled that her spunk and determination and vision live on! EVERY child should be exposed to and read this book! There is no excuse for every library to not have it, and for every parent to not read it! Open a lemonade stand, and continue Alex' dream!
Great Childrens Book.......2005-10-19
This is an outstanding book about a brave and big hearted little girl that gave her all to the world right up to the very end of her life. It teaches children the importance of how one person can make a lifetime legacy...

If I were still 12 years old this would be my favourite book!.......2007-09-17
Not all of us are entrepreneurially driven at a young age - but if you know a youngster who is - get them this book! Written in a very readable manner (for kids and adults) this book is a great down to earth mix of story telling and practical "how to" advice for kids wanting to start their own business at a young age.

Siena's review - Beyond the Lemonade Stand.......2005-10-26
Do you want to earn money, but don't know how? If so, Beyond the Lemonade Stand is the perfect book for you. This short book is by Bill Rancic, winner of The Apprentice TV show. The book is full of useful tips for "saleskids" such as: what is investing and how do you do it. There are stories about how Bill and other children made money. My favorite chapter was managing your money, because I learned new ways to save my money. One reason that I adored this book was because there are sections you can fill-in. The whole last chapter you can write down your appointments and clients.
This book won't interest everyone, only kids who like non-fiction and enjoy making money (which I love to do). I think this book is a little expensive at $15 (including shipping). I would pay about $10 total for it. However, I really don't mind the price because 100% of the profit goes to children's charities. I treasure this book and recommend it to all "saleskids".

pointless .......2007-03-01
The author didn't really talk about everything..... In many states you need a food handler's permit to cook food to be consumed by other people, or even to serve it. Often you must cook it in a commercial kitchen. Most of these ideas wouldn't work, because you must have a great deal of talent or a very large amount of starting money, such as ideas like a store window painter, or a jewelry maker. Most people would rather hire professionals to actually get the work done, then to trust something to a kid. I'm 12 years old and I'm glad I did not buy this book at full price, but found it used at a thrift store.
A neat book for kids.......2006-08-04
I think that this is a very good book for parents to buy for their kids.
It's kids telling their stories and who better than kids to help kids.
There are lots of money making ideas for kids and there is stuff on how to advertise, business ideas that can make money, and overall quite an interesting book.
This book can be applied for all times.
A book that should be read by all parents.......2006-07-18
I've been looking for a book like this for a very long time. We need more of these to be written because it's important for our kids to get involved.
Maybe more people should follow the author's lead and do some investigation into how we can get our kids to work at an earlier age.
There's another book that I also read that may be of interest to parents and kids alike.
It's called Untapped Wealth Discovered and it has some very potent ideas for parents and kids and it talks about how kids can make some very good money because large companies are seeking their expertise.
These companies include cereal companies, toy manufactuerers, and video games developers. The second edition in particular has some very good examples.
Thank you Barry for writing your book.
Best book on kids business ideas.......2003-09-06
This book is full of great ideas that kids can really use to make money. For each business, there is information on what supplies you need, how much time it will take, how much to charge customers, how to advertise, plus Daryl give some special tips from his experiences.
Daryl was 15 years old when he wrote this, so he really knows what it's like for kids to start their own businesses. Right now I'm trying 2 of the ideas in the book, and I'm already making some money.
Once you read this book, you'll see why it's the most famous book about money-making ideas for kids. Daryl really tells you everything you need to know and motivates you to believe in yourself.
Um, Daryl could've done better........1999-10-28
Well, Daryl went a bit short on information. I couldn't start a business just on the stuff he has written. He only wrote a handful of cute paragraphs on each idea. Oh, well. A much better book on the subject is Extra Cach for Kids. (I think right now its out of print.) P.S. I do know what I'm talking about; I have run several businesses.
Book Description
Children's lives today are complex, stressful, and dangerous. Kids are overscheduled, come home to empty houses and neighborhoods where they don't know a soul, and in school, face violence-all too often from their peers. In Stopping at Every Lemonade Stand, James Vollbracht provides a blueprint for transforming our unstable and disconnected culture into a healthier, supportive one. Vollbracht bases his approach on six overlapping circles of community-our personal circle, families, neighborhoods, larger communities, business worlds, and elders-and outlines simple actions within each circle that will help rescue our kids. Through a rich blend of heartwarming anecdotes and creative, practical strategies, Stopping at Every Lemonade Stand affirms the age-old wisdom that the power and responsibility to heal our communities rest in our own hands.
Customer Reviews:
I love this book!.......2003-01-05
This book was short and easy to read - I read it in two days (while being a mom to 2 boys!). The author describes 6 circles: the individual, the family, the neighborhood, the community, businesses and government, and our elders; and gives examples of steps that people all around our country our taking within these 6 circles to create a safe culture for our children.
What I like most about this book is that it left me feeling hopeful and enthused about the steps I would take. The author does a great job of showing the reader that one doesn't necessarily have to spend a lot of money or tackle an overwhelming task in order to make a positive difference in our world; even little steps that fit in to one's lifestyle DO make a difference.
This book will change a reader's thoughts from, "I know something needs to be done, but what can I do?" to "What great ideas, I can start today!" I definately recommend this book! As a matter of fact, I'm buying copies for the principle of my son's school anf the mayor of our city!
Book Description
With what is occurring in today's corporate America, as well as post 9-11, what is the solution to sustaining a successful business? Simplicity and back to basics. That is what The Lemonade Stand series is all about. A father-daughter team is writing The Lemonade Stand series. This book, Lemonade Stand Management, is their second work. It is focused upon basic management. It is also an insightful, helpful, relevant, and fun work that will appeal to a wide audience. It guides the reader through the mechanics, importance, and strengths of the simplification of complex business management activities. The focus of The Lemonade Stand series work is: the crew, customer service, and cost/price. The entire business process from mission statement to product shipment is addressed as a function of these foci. As the reader steps through each process, he/she is constantly reinforced with functional mechanics that could aid in the useful simplification of the intricacies of business complexities. These business complexities are addressed in a manner that forces an understanding to the level of simple lemonade stand operational management. While the entire work deals with the process of simplification, extreme care is exercised to assure the reader that all pieces of the business process are adequately addressed. The advice is broad based and generically deals with intricate issues that can indeed be shown to be far less confusing than usually expected. The advice and mechanics offered as aides are drawn from real-world success applications with plenty of examples. Humor is scattered throughout the work and not only serves to make the work readable, but also openly taunts the cumbersome world of complexity. The work flows through each major business discipline in a manner that will bring workable guidance to workers, supervisors, managers and CEOs.

Another solid entry in the Christopher Counts series.......1998-12-10
We enjoyed the latest entry in the series and it helps that the images are consistent. We're giving the full set to our young nephews to help get a jump on math concepts. Effective, attractive, simple books.
Colorful and fun images illustrate math problems........1998-10-12
I had alot of fun reading this to my kids who are just starting to get into math problems of their own at school. I really enjoyed the simple and colorful illustrations. I recommend this book if you want to help kids visualize math problems with everyday situations.

A mystery with training wheels.......2005-04-05
I remember this book from the fourth grade, and think the series should be reprinted. This is an engaging, well-illustrated detective story with a duo of clue-chasing heroines and their floppy dog. They start a business then must find out who is sabotaging it.
It must be a good book when it pops to mind 20 years after the intial reading!
Cute!.......2000-03-31
I read this in 5th grade and still remember how much I enjoyed it since I loved mysteries. Pick it up and read it. It even has their lemonade recipe in the book!

A must for those who want entrepreneurial children.......1999-12-31
I found Emmanuel Modu's book to be a necessity for all parents. Not just because it helps them encourage their kids into the business world, but also because it provides a guidline on how to help children become independent thinkers and happy individuals. Mr. Modu pinpoints many mistakes paretns [unintentionally]make while trying to teach their kids about the ways of life. After reading "The Lemonade Stand", parents will be able to overcome such mistakes and help groom their offspring into freethinking and dyamic people. If you take evertying written in this book to heart, you may be raising the next Rockeffellar or Larry Ellison ;)

This book should be read by adults as well as children. If you are a individual starting your own business for the first time and without any knowledge of how to manage a business then the lemonade stand is where you should start.
chapters 10, 11 and 12 were very helpful for me.
A well written book Mr Modu.
