Customer Reviews:
Good book -- Great Art.......2007-09-14
This was a great art book. Not much for post processing. The Art and style are worth the price.
Techniques? More like showcase.......2007-05-07
After reading the previous reviews of the product I thought the book would feature more discussion in regards to setup of the particular shot and the related post-processing in Photoshop. However, I found the book to be lacking in both. There was hardly any in-depth discussion about post-processing techniques in Photoshop.
A Must Have!.......2005-09-29
What's truly amazing about this book is that it combines high quality artistic nudes, by talented photographers throughout the world, with in-depth discussion of techniques. It's rare to find both in the same book, and to find them so well integrated. The quality of the images is so high that I could well have bought it for the photos alone - something that almost never is the case with photo how-to books! And, the reproduction quality is absolutely amazing, rivaling that of some of the highest quality hard-bound coffee table books! And, that leads me to the final point ... The price is actually reasonable, because it is in paperback form (not really paper, but rather that high quality durable plastic clad type of "paper"). If you like books with artistic nudes, this one is a must have!
Comments from a contributing photographer.......2005-08-05
When first approached to contribute images to Erotique Digitale I was dubious. I had never heard of Illex Press (Cambrige, England; the European publisher), nor had I heard of Thomson Course Technology (Boston; publisher in the USA). Both, as I discovered, are top-shelf publishing houses, far advanced in the trade. It matters to me where my images are published. I am honored to be in this book.
The diversity of images, styles, and techniques represented in Digitale Erotique is quite impressive, as is the global (meaning world-wide) sweep of represented artists.
Every style and technique is clearly described and easily understood--rare attributes for books which claim to teach the digital photo arts.
I buy lots of books (and I mean LOTS of books) on fine art photography (digital, film, whatever) because it's my trade and I need to stay current on who's doing what and how they're doing it. Most (90% or more) of what I see is flat, tired, boring (the same old same old), or cheap glitzy snap shots posing as art.
Here's the point: I learned from this book. This book sparked new ideas and techniques that I am grateful for--not to copy or mimic, mind you, but to adapt into my own unique wacky ways of seeing and working.
When artists stop learning and growing they die. Or, when artists die they stop learning and growing. If you are a photo artist, get this book and keep on living.
And, no, I don't make a percentage on sales, and I have not been compensated for this endorsement. Darn it.
An absolutely beautiful and educational book!.......2005-07-29
This book has enabled me understand and translate very complicated techniques that the top photographers in the world utilize. Plus, the book is of the highest quality, the pictures stand on their own as pieces of art.

Book Description
The career of the greatest painter of the twentieth century was played out in the shadow of Eros -- and of Thanatos. At the age of eight, Picasso's first drawings already displayed a precocious interest in the female form, and in the days leading up to his death he was still working obsessively on sketches of the female sex.

Investigating Picasso's Obsessions with Erotica.......2005-10-19
The fine book from Prestel serves as a significant addition to the burgeoning library on Pablo Picasso, the most popular 20th Century artist in the world. While much of his output (and his output was gargantuan!) is secondary to his acknowledged masterpieces, when grouped as in the manner in which Jean Clair, Director of the Muse Picasso in Paris has done for the purposes of a traveling exhibition, the ingenuity as well as the personal psychosocial issues of the artist become far more focused.
That Picasso was a slave to Eros is well known: that he lived a second life in the bordellos of Barcelona is less well known until now! The book abounds in over 450 images in color and in black and white of his voyeuristic tendencies and his celebration of the female form. These sketches and finished works span his early periods, his cubism, and his later life return to representation. They are a joy to view and review in this beautifully presented book.
Accompanying the images are informative and enjoyably readable essays by Jean Clair himself, Annie Le Brun, Marie-Noelle Delorme, Pascal Quignard, Jean-Jacques Lebel, Patrick Roegiers, and Malen Gual. PICASSO EROTIQUE is one of those art books that actually merits careful reading s well as being entertained by the wonderful visuals. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, October 05
Picasso as life force.......2001-07-12
In their Preface to this remarkable book (published to accompany exhibitions in Paris, Montreal, and Barcelona) Guy Cogeval, Jean Clair, and Maria Teresa Ocana assert that all of the art of Pablo Picasso - whether visual or literary - was "guided by a specifically Spanish eroticism, a medley of sensuality and tenderness, of scatology and gluttony." Curator and editor Clair has assembled a group of erudite and sometimes thrilling essayists, and 350 or so plates of Picasso's most obviously erotic topics, whether sketches, paintings, sculpture - from his entire art-producing life (beginning at age 9!). Mythology, religion, linguistics, classical influences, and Picasso's upbringing and circumstances and adult life (among many other things) are all explored in the dozen essays that make this book such great reading.
Clair's own "The School of Darkness" is a heady and passionate appreciation of Picasso. He contributes right off to the decades-old debate regarding Picasso's view and treatment of women. He defends the artist and the man, rejecting portrayals of Picasso as " the ogre, the dark demon, the wife-eating Minotaur," quoting writer Micheline Sauvage's words on Don Juan: "Not the profaner of love, but the hero of profane love." Picasso possessed energy and drive that included prodigious eating, drinking, sexual expression, writing, the production of art, and more art.
Housekeeping out of the way, Clair's essay grows into something remarkable: part biography, part chant. If you read it aloud you might well amaze and delight yourself and your listener.
Annie Le Brun's "Painting in the Bedroom" successfully places Picasso's erotic sensibilities and drive in context and in comparison to other painters, whom she asserts (and proves) shared traits with Picasso. 'Diamond Made of All the Love of the Loves of Blood,' (the title comes from a diary entry of the artist) by Marie-Noelle Delorme is a fabulous compilation, effectively and subtlely organized, that shows Picasso the energetic and larger-than-life diarist - a passionate and powerful writer on love, bodies, intimate landscapes, and much more.
The illustrations - a "Chronological Catalogue of Exhibited Works," fill over 200 pages. The layout and the colors are good and the plates are big enough. There are oil paintings, etchings, drawings in pencil, colored pencil, chalk, ink, and charcoal; aquatint, drypoint, etchings; sculptures in wood, plaster, clay and bronze - and more. The earliest drawing is a copulation scene, "Donkey and She-Ass," done by a nine-year old Picasso - who as a schoolboy was already drawing confidently and well and, it can be argued, had already found his voice.
The works are of men, women, animals together, animals with people, blind men, lovers, voyeurs, brothel scenes, outsized genitalia, mythological beasts and people, nudes in classical poses, Cubist paintings on erotic themes, sketches of solicitude and tenderness and caring, playfully altered pin-ups from the 50's, visions of sexuality altered but undimmed by old age, and much more.
By virtue of its twelve strong, smart, passionate essays, and its 300 plates, this book becomes much more than the sum of its parts. Very worthwhile, and a great read.

Author of Mama and Us & Poetic Thoughts from the Heart of a Woman.......2007-04-05
This book had me really going both mentally and physically. If you want to feed your brain and your body, read this!
Owned it before, bought it again..........2006-06-18
This book is a wonderful introduction into the world of erotic writings. very creative; also very well-written. It was one of the first of such novels I had come across and it was very - 'inspiring' - to say the least. Let's just say I learned to let go of a few inhibitions after reading it, so it was worthwhile to me!
If you are trying to compare this book to the writings of Zane, you will have to look at it from a literary perspective. I like Zane and own several books by the author as well. This writing is more poetic, whereas Zane's books are more "blatantly descriptive". Both are definitely worth reading!
You always remember your first.......2005-07-09
this is the first erotic novel i had every read. i was only 12 at the time so it blow my mind. it actually belonged to my mother and she had this questionable look on her face when she bust into my room and saw me reading it (if she bust into my room now she would have an even more questionable look ). i have been hooked on erotic novels every since. i dont know how much i would enjoy it now considering all the erotic novels and such things i have read, but the story about the slave and his large organ will always be a story i remember.
Damn good.......2004-11-09
I bought this book about 6yrs ago and now I'm on my third copy. My girlfriend use to have dinner parties with poetry readings and i would never participate. I finally decided I would use the book to read from. I picked out a poem called (Baby). For the next 10 min I could have gotten anything I wanted from any woman in the room. The poem was just that Damn GOOD.
This book Sucks.......2003-02-20
After reading Zane, This book does not even come close. It is so bland and boring.
Maybe I need to spend some time with it but I am not impressed.

13 photographers, 13 bucks, not a bad deal.......2000-09-02
There's a little humor, a little art, some silly cheesecake, and an occasional clever quote in this lightweight little book with the relatively little price. The production values are good in this slightly-more-than-a-pamphlet volume despite the complete lack of any organizing principle beyond the titular feature. The interior of the book is as unpretentious as the cover, so "Breasts" is consistent and relatively inoffensive, if not very interesting. An advantage of using obscure photographers is that although the work is not brilliantly original, neither is it predictable collection of "Top 40 Hits" from the world of nudes. At less than $14, it's at the very peak of its value.
Customer Reviews:
erotic disappointment.......2005-04-08
Some photographers think what's erotic is what's hidden and left to the imagination. Two Thirds of the pictures in this book are fig leafed with shadows or clothing, leaving plenty to the imagination. Think of playboy magazine in the 1950's or Vogue or Madamoselle magazine today. Many of these are stylistic, but not very erotic. One in three of the photos in the book are erotic, not afraid of nudity. Don't make the investment in this book if you want high level eroticism. Instead get "Shaven Angels", "Natural Beauties", "100 Naked Girls", or "Crazy,Sexy Girls".
"Erotique..." is erotic, splendidly has name photographers.........2005-03-03
"Erotique..." by Rod Ashford, NY, Thunder's Mouth Press, 1998 - ISBN 1-56025-168-9 (pbk), 9 in. x 11 in., 224 pg.
"Erotique" is splendidly published, large format printing (Spain)
of 198 photographs, mostly B/W, c. 1/4 in color & some hand-tint & sepias. Photos are divided into time periods: Historical, 1950-1979, 1980's, & 1990's (50%). Author has 13 pg. intoduction on erotic images, erotic content, medium of photography, & social impact. The book is not pornographic.
The dominant erotic theme: nudity using more or less contrived backgrounds to afford motif: -- 56 photos spiked heels, 35 chains, leathers, latex or whips, 16 were couples, 12 cuffs or writs restraints, 4 male companion, 4 spankings, & 2 sex toys. So...talisman & fetishism are part of "Erotique" & it merges with "Fetish" art portfolios.
Of the many photographers here, my favorites are: Rod Ashford, David Penprase, John Swannell, Gunter Blum, Charles Roff, Monika Robl, Thomas Karsten, David Hamilton. This is a good book for the coffee table.
Erotica Through the Ages........2003-02-17
This book is a fine representation of erotica through the ages with examples from portfolios of great photographers. This is a great anthology of primitive to the modern world of glamour/erotic photography.
70 / 30.......2001-08-31
Some are really masterpieces; others are just... casual photos with high quality.
Maybe is a good idea just buy the 70% of the book

Tal vez sea mejor solo comprar el 70% del libro
Disappointing content, nice pics.......2000-08-07
Okay. It's a book with naked women. Some of the pictures are nicely arranged, but most are just the usual vanilla pornography -- and I still don't quite get why it is that the bondage theme is so universally considered erotic. Seems like fully 25% of the pics in this book are devoted to bondage or lesbian bondage. I'd much rather just see nice bodies in interesting poses. [...]

for leg lovers.......2001-03-09
This book is without doubt, aimed for men who appreciate the form of the female leg (you hardly hear women comment on mens legs).
The book itself is small, almost like a simple childrens book. Inside, there is little text in the book. The text that there is are famous and popular quotes about legs. The main attraction are photographs after photographs of mostly, women and their legs. Some of the photographs are a bit more difficult to understand what it has to do with the legs, but the general focus are the legs. There are men in some photographs, but they are focusing on what the reader is also focused on, the legs.
I was satified by this book, it's a bit disappointing there is not more to it, but still worth the look.
Oh NO!.......2000-07-08
This book was VERY disappointing. First of all the hard cover leads you to believe that the book is of a reasonable size. It's more like a Children book size. Many of the pictures are old and seemingly out of date. I was duped! I also bought his other book at the same time called Derriere and was equally disappointed. WATCH OUT and don't get duped like I did.

Book Description
As the Clover saga concludes, we flashback to reveal Gingetsu`s first meeting with the three-leaf clover, Ran. Like Sue, Ran was imprisoned for the good of society. But Ran yearned to live a life that was more like a human and less like a lab rat, and broke free from. Now, Gingetsu is ordered to track him down and bring him back to the laboratory. It's a mission he doesn't want to take on, but as everyone knows, the Wizards never give anyone the option to refuse. From the imaginative CLAMP team, responsible for Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, and Magic Knight Rayearth, Clover is a cyber-romance that will be hard to forget.
Customer Reviews:
Brothers.......2005-08-15
The plot here concerns twin brothers A and C. They are both Clover 3s and will die if they leave their government operated cage - the facility where they live alone together. Trouble starts when C decides to leave. We see this through the eyes of Sue, the Clover 4 kept in a cage that really does look like a bird cage. (Clover 4s can psychically see Clover 3s, Clover 3s can see Clover 2s, and Clover 2s can see Clover 1s.) Here she telepathically communicates very briefly with C and the government studies her nervously to try and predict his behavior.
He is located by the government, who discuss what to do with him. (The twins are pretty young, maybe twelve, so clearly he won't be off on his own.) The real plot is resolving the relationship between A and C. A feels abandoned and is jealous of anyone C meets in the outside world. Also he can psychically kill people, so that is a bit of a problem. The two brothers communicate telepathically and things that happen to C outside the cage contribute to them sorting things out. Meanwhile we see some tiny secrets revealed about government agent Gingetsu and a night club singer Ora, who is dating a government agent and in other ways more centrally connected to the bigger story.
The graphics here are good. There is a lot of negative space here, but it does contribute to mood and pacing. Graphics are straight black and white with lots of curly ques and organic shapes. In other books in the series this got a bit overly sappy - pin up girls in a very idealized style abound. Here maybe because the subject matter was more on the twin boys and the government agents it wasn't so so sugary sweet.
From reading this and Clover 3 I would say that these books fit a specific taste. Don't hate me for it if you are a fan, but they are kind of vague for me. You piece the story together and things aren't always chronological. That isn't a problem, except that often the story seems pretty simple without layers of meaning. So rereading doesn't feel like it gives me more. If you love the series, then this particular book was fine, so go for it. If you haven't read the series at all then borrow before you buy, and don't start with Clover 3.
^.^.......2004-07-01
Clover seems to be one of CLAMP's lesser known works, but I find it to be one of their better works. The story is interestig and presented in an appealing way through beautiful art. As with most of most of CLAMP's manga, Clover includes interesting character relationships, including a gay couple(one partner being much older than the other)so if you're not into that sort of thing you should probobly stay away from this manga(or CLAMP in general, as most of their works contain controversial relationships). Clover is a futuristic fantasy filled with emotion centered around a few psychic youths who are feared and restrained by the government for fear of their powers. There is a good deal of action but more than that it is a character-driven emotional drama. The first two volumes are one complete story, the third is a prequel, and the fourth is a prequel to the prequel. All in all The characters, story, and art make it a great read.
presentation counts.......2004-06-20
Clover # 4 is short, like all other books in the four-part series, but that hardly matters at all. In the last intstallment of Clover, an unusually light-hearted Kuzuhiko, Ora, and Sue all have cameo roles, although the story features Ran (C), and his brother, A. Gingetsu gets a large part as well, but not as great as I expected after reading the summary. Reading through #4 the first time left me feeling slightly let down, because I had the impression that the story would be a follow-up on the breif appearance Ran and Gingetsu had in the first book. (I haven't read 2 or 3.)I was annoyed, because Clover is one of the more expensive mangas and I felt I could have invested my money more wisely. But then I went through it a second time and realized that it was good as a prequel, as well. The presentation is in very crip chairascuro (black and white), which gives it a very classical feeling. (I'm aware manga is typically printed in black and white anyways, but Clover has heavy contrast and large areas filled in with simple black or white, aka negative space.) This may appear cheap- but in actuality it's skillful oraganization and presentation that makes Clover so unique, and aesthetically pleasing. In truth, screentoning (using little dots for shading) would lessen the somber, repessive tension that emphasizes the theme of captivity so well. In the end, I was glad I bought Clover, although I'm still irritated by the length.
And on a very practical note- the frosty dustjacket for the book is beautiful, but has a tendency to tear, even when you're trying to be careful. I know someone who is a nut when it comes to the caretaking of her books, and yet the cover had an almost full vertical rip in the front. When she lent it to me, I carried it in a backpack that held the rest of my books, and took out only to find that the cover had ripped all the way around. The corners of the books get wrinkled easily too, on account of the material- the best thing to do seems to be to remove the dust jacket when you're carrying clover, and then replace it when on the shelf. Either that, or handle sparingly. I also reccommend purchase online- few Clover books that have been leafed thorugh by customers at the store are left intact. (it's just that fragile.)
Clover.......2004-02-24
In my opinion, Clover is simply beautiful. The use of heavy contrasts between black and white, and the songs in the book are just beautiful, and the whole story is deep and sad.
I would recommend buying 1 and 2 together, as they are a story in themselves.
Actually, I bought 4 first, then 3, and finally 1 and 2. Why? Because, 4 is actually the one that happens first, chronologically. 4 is the prequel to 3, and 3 happens before 1. It makes a little more sense to buy it like that, I think. It explains who Ora (Oruha) is before you read 1, so you don't end up wondering.
The only thing I can slate it for is the font they used- Times New Roman?! I HATE that font. Also, my colour pages fell out easily.. maybe I shouldnt have stared at them so much ^_^;;
Beautiful Manga by CLAMP =^-^=.......2003-01-05
This is one of the most beautiful manga I have ever seen; the graphics are absolutely fantastic (but of course, who would expect anything different from CLAMP??) and the plot is woven together in the most thoughtful and intriguing way, with some flashbacks of the past that at first don't seem to relate to the story, but suddenly do. Throughout the story beautiful songs are interlaced, and though their words may seem pretty simplistic, the further along you get in the story, the more they start to hold meaning. =^-^= However, for all you sensitive manga readers Clover may not be for you, as it starts to get very, very sad. I cried at the end of the third book, it was so sad (and I've never cried over a book, NEVER! =^-^=). Overall this series, Clover, is very good, but make sure that when you're reading to have a box of tissues nearby! =^-^=

Book Description
Erin, Brynne, Ruby, Al, Brunhilda, Stacey Lee, Jenna, and Ashley return in this sequel four years later and are ready to battle the entanglements of adolescence. While Al and Brynne prepare excitedly for their senior year of high school, Erin, one year younger, struggles with her impossible standards for perfection. Ruby, Stacey Lee, and Jenna have just turned thirteen and have discovered boys while Ashley, freshly fifteen, must come to grips with the loss of her father. Meanwhile, Brunhilda, a freshman in high school, struggles to fit into a shallow world that is seemingly unready to accept her. Each of the girls still lives in the Clover Valley Orphanage with David and Erica, and they must count on each other for support as they strive to make it through some of the difficult and complex issues and events that they face. When Brynne has a difficult decision to make, and while Erin suffers with self-doubt, readers are reminded of times when they felt most alone and times when they found out who their real friends truly were.
